Are these the best NCAA Tournament names? Doug thinks so.
Transcript
00:00All right, Gator, which name do you think is funnier?
00:04Okay, I like where we're going here.
00:07Nebraska has a player whose last name is Buketangel.
00:12I'm sorry, what?
00:14Buketangel.
00:14Okay.
00:15Or Illinois, who's got a player with the last name of Humrichhaus.
00:21Which name do you like better, Buketangel or Humrichhaus?
00:26I like Puketangel because it's puke, right?
00:30Buke, Buketangel.
00:31Whatever, I'll say puke.
00:33I think it sounds funnier.
00:35They're both pretty funny.
00:37Buketangel, it's Ben Humrichhaus.
00:40I'm going to look up the first name.
00:42Did you say Humrich?
00:43Humrichhaus.
00:43Humrich is pretty funny too.
00:45Yeah.
00:46It's Burke, Burke, Buketangel.
00:51What's Humrichhaus' first name?
00:52Ben Humrichhaus and Burke Buketangel.
00:59It's Burke Buketangel.
01:01You think that's a better name?
01:03Yeah, it's the whole thing.
01:04The whole presentation is better.
01:05It's funnier.
01:06Okay.
01:07Okay.
01:08Which would you like better?
01:11I think they're, I think Humrichhaus.
01:13I like the name Humrichhaus.
01:15But Buketangel feels like there weren't enough vowels in it.
01:19Like the vowels fell out of the name and you're left with Buketangel.
01:23And Humrichhaus has a little bit of brick house to it.
01:26That's true.
01:26Which is kind of fun.
01:27Both those teams are alive.
01:29You can see Burke Buketangel and the Nebraska Cornhuskers and Ben Humrichhaus and the Illinois Fighting Illini both playing tomorrow.
01:37Red Wings.
01:37They're going to let it all hang out.
01:39Red Wings won last night.
01:41Big game.
01:42What did I miss?
01:44I see.
01:45It reminds me of Brick House.
01:46They're going to let it all hang out.
01:48I don't know.
01:48Do you think, is that a lyric from that song?
01:50Yeah.
01:51Is it?
01:52It's letting it all hang out.
01:53Oh, maybe it is.
01:54Yeah, maybe you're right.
01:56House.
01:56Yeah, okay.
01:57Anyway, Red Wings won last night.
01:59She's mighty mighty.
02:00You can keep going if you want to sing, man.
02:01I'll finish my lunch.
02:05I'm done with that.
02:06And they start to come back up if you hear me sing.
02:08Ah, no.
02:10Big Red Wings win last night.
02:11That was, hey, that was a puck luck night, okay?
02:13Call what it is.
02:14Got some good bounces.
02:15Don't care.
02:16They needed that win.
02:17They've had some bad bounces.
02:19And they've had some injury problems.
02:21Take them how you can get them.
02:22Patrick Kane throws it in the net.
02:24It hits the goalie.
02:26Dobish first.
02:27Then bounces off JT Copper's thigh pad.
02:30Had it in the net.
02:31Great.
02:31Take it.
02:331-1 game.
02:34Late third period.
02:36Mike Matheson struggles with a rolling puck back in his own zone.
02:40DeBricket pounces.
02:42Scores a nice goal.
02:43Take it.
02:43I was glad to see an NHL player struggle with a rolling puck.
02:47It made me feel better about my own game.
02:49But, Scott, whatever.
02:50They needed that win, and they got it.
02:52Yeah, goals are at a premium, and you'll take them however you get them.
02:55And it's nice to see the puck luck go the Red Wings way because we've seen far too often it
03:00go the other way.
03:01Where it goes off.
03:02I mean, the one game that I felt so bad for Justin Falk was his second game with the team.
03:06And it felt like he was on the ice for all the goals, and they came in weird ways.
03:10Going off his leg.
03:11Or, you know, he gets his stick knocked away.
03:13By the time he picks it up and goes to check the guy, the puck comes out, going to rebound.
03:17And, you know, next thing you know, you're down two goals.
03:20They need to have wins like that.
03:23You know, you have to win any way possible at this point in the season with a Baker's dozen games
03:27left.
03:28Every point is massive.
03:30When you have six teams in the Eastern Conference that are all within a point of each other, it tells
03:37you how tough it is.
03:38You know, we try to focus just on the Atlantic division.
03:42And you've got three teams that have the same point total that are all vying for that third automatic bid,
03:49and then you get to the wild card.
03:51But that's how tight things are.
03:53The Metropolitan isn't any easier.
03:55It's starting to get bunched up at the bottom end there, too.
03:57So, there's really no team that's running away with it.
04:01The teams that lead both of the divisions, I think they only have 92 points.
04:06So, you're talking just eight more points than the Red Wings have and than all these other teams have.
04:11Whether it's Boston or Montreal or, you know, the Islanders and Columbus.
04:17Everybody is all in this same kind of situation.
04:20So, and because it is the final stretch, cannibalism getting ready to take place.
04:25And you're seeing the playoff caliber teams taking each other on, and you start to take a rooting interest.
04:30You start to do some scoreboard watching, and you just don't want to see games go to overtime.
04:35You want them decided in regulation so nobody's splitting points.
04:40So, we asked a question on Twitter.
04:42Is this a playoff team?
04:43Why or why not?
04:44And if they do make the playoffs, can they make a bit of a run in the playoffs?
04:49From Chucky, he tweeted us, yes, they will make the playoffs.
04:52No, they will not make a deep run.
04:54Maybe win a round at best.
04:56Yes, the Iser plan is in full effect and moving in the intended direction.
05:00Iserman should and needs to stay no matter what the outcome this season.
05:06I'll tell you, we talked yesterday about which guy do you want to kind of step up their game and
05:10be the guy.
05:10And I said, I want Lucas Raymond to do it because I feel like he's got it in him to
05:15be the leader of this team.
05:16But your guy was Alex DeBrinckit.
05:18Yep.
05:19His style of play, that is just a ball of fire out there.
05:23He's a ball of fire out there without being dirty.
05:26He just reacts to stuff, right?
05:28So, he's not the antagonist.
05:31He's the guy that reacts to it.
05:32So, there's a difference between his style and, say, Brad Marchand.
05:36Brad Marchand is just an ass on the ice.
05:39Whereas, DeBrinckit's prickly.
05:40And you saw it last night.
05:42Slashed him on the hand.
05:43He's not going to put up with that.
05:44Not up in here.
05:45Yeah.
05:45And, you know, turned around, made sure it was right in front of the referee.
05:48And the referee saw it.
05:48And they, you know, let it go or whatever.
05:51I like his style.
05:52He has come up huge for this team.
05:55That goal, the pass goes up the boards by Patrick Kane.
06:00The defender kind of misplaced it.
06:02He's skating backwards.
06:02As you said, the puck was not lying flat.
06:04And it's a rolling puck.
06:05I hate that.
06:06He touches it but doesn't possess it.
06:08And then here comes Alex DeBrinckit right there.
06:10As Mickey Redman would say, Johnny on the spot.
06:14And he takes it and puts a move on the goaltender and a backhand flip in the top of the
06:18net.
06:18It was a beautiful goal.
06:20And this is what he is.
06:22He's a 35-45 goal scorer.
06:24That's what Alex DeBrinckit can be.
06:26And I think he's a guy that this team should probably hang on to when he's, I think his contract
06:32is up after next season.
06:34I'd like to see him stick around here.
06:36Local guy.
06:36And he's productive.
06:38And he's starting to, I think, embody what we want the Red Wings to be.
06:42Brian tweets us, yes, they make the playoffs.
06:44And Gibson carries them to the conference finals.
06:48Well, that's bold.
06:49I mean, it is bold, but it's also, hey, who can carry you deep into the playoffs?
06:55Your goalie can.
06:57How do we feel about our goalie?
06:59I feel strong about our goalie.
07:01Except the one thing I've noticed is that, you know, teams are taking some liberties.
07:05They're skating in the crease.
07:07They're bumping him.
07:08They're knocking him around.
07:09And I think it's because they know that he is susceptible to perhaps getting hurt because he's been, had to
07:15be removed from a couple of games.
07:17He's got the stinger that he's, you know, dealing with.
07:19The other thing with Gibson, and he's been so good, is that he doesn't catch the puck very well because
07:25apparently he's had so many hand injuries that that's not his forte is to snagging pucks out of midair.
07:30He'll give up some rebounds and you get nervous about that.
07:33I would describe the Montreal goal as being a kind of a fortunate rebound.
07:37I'm not quite sure what he could have done with that puck, but he did deflect it right into the
07:41slot on the stick of a Canadian player who finished.
07:46But he's been very, very good.
07:49Andy writes in, the Wings have been the same team for several years.
07:52I don't see a reason why the result will be any different than the last few years.
07:56They collapse under pressure.
07:58Did they collapse last night under pressure?
08:00They were down 1-0 and came back and won it in regulation.
08:03Three goals in the third period, too.
08:05I mean, you know, that's an example of them not collapsing under pressure.
08:08If he's taking a big picture and wants to see him prove it.
08:11We're all in that boat.
08:12Yeah, I think I can understand that to a degree.
08:15But I don't think, I think they'd tell you we're a very different team.
08:18They've got better goaltending.
08:20They've added a veteran presence on the blue line.
08:22They've had guys stepping up.
08:24And I don't think they are the same team they've been the last couple years.
08:31And JVR is a nice addition, too.
08:33Yeah, underrated addition.
08:35Jenna writes in, I think they will make it, but it'll be a dogfight.
08:39Crazy that 10 of the top 13 records in the NHL are in our division.
08:43Depending on matchups and the playoffs, I don't think the Wings will do much of anything.
08:46But just making the playoffs is all anyone seems to care about.
08:51I don't know if that's true.
08:53I think that's the basic goal.
08:56I mean, you know, you want to go further.
08:58That's the first hurdle, right?
08:59Get the playoffs, right.
08:59Get some of that playoff experience, and hopefully you've got a chance.
09:04It's Carson Anderson.
09:05We're at Twin Peaks in Madison Heights.
09:07We'll be here until 2 o'clock.
09:08Game's underway.
09:09We will continue here on 97.1.
09:11We'll be here at Twin Peaks.
