00:05Who are ya? Who are ya? Who are ya? Who's that behind the mask?
00:12Take it off! Take it off!
00:15Can you believe what just happened? The judges didn't even smell a rat.
00:19I can't believe it. But anyway, enough about me. Welcome to Unmasked.
00:23We have our first unmasking interview with Sloth, one of the poor souls who got voted off tonight.
00:28They are finally free of the mask and ready to talk about what it's really like sweating through sequins while
00:34Mo Gilligan guesses your Mariah Carey.
00:36So stay right here where we are gonna be getting unfiltered, unmasked and as always a little bit unhinged.
00:43The most energetic Sloth you've ever seen! Ben Fogel, welcome!
00:48Thank you. I feel really exposed right now. I feel like I'm naked.
00:51Yeah, how does it feel singing without a mask on?
00:53Oh my goodness. It feels like I need to hide my face a little bit.
00:57That's the kind of like after effects of being on The Masked Singer I think.
01:00Mm-hmm. So actually singing the song just now, I didn't realise I had to do it.
01:05That was a shock!
01:06Singing that song just now without the mask was one of the harder things I've had to do in life
01:11and I've done some pretty big challenges.
01:12But it's been, you know, it's been joyous, it's been really fun, ridiculous.
01:17I made a commitment that if I was gonna do this, I was gonna go 100%.
01:21I don't do things by halves and I think I've delivered.
01:25Well, we definitely would agree because you're literally one of the most energetic people we've ever had on this show.
01:31How does it feel to be bringing that kind of energy?
01:33Well, I had to do something. Listen, my singing wasn't gonna get me very far so I realised early on
01:39if I was going to stand a chance of getting anywhere in this show,
01:44and I made it to the semi-finals. It's not bad, is it?
01:46Okay.
01:47I had to bring this to life.
01:51Wow, gorgeous.
01:51And I could only really do that with a lot of energy and honestly, I don't think I've sweated so
01:57much for a very long time.
01:59Talking of sweat, they thought you were Joe Wicks, they thought you were Spencer Matthews, but they never actually nailed
02:05it.
02:05They thought you were Bear Grylls. How did you manage to fool them all, do you think?
02:09And I did it with some terrible voices. A little bit of Cockney, a little bit of Danny Dyer Geezer.
02:15Oh, I like that.
02:17But it's all part of the game, isn't it?
02:19It's all part of the fun. Did you enjoy the vocal coaching?
02:22I really enjoyed it. I've never done any singing. One of the reasons I really wanted to do this was
02:26just to bring some happiness and sunshine and joy
02:31and be completely ridiculous so that other people see that you don't have to take yourself too seriously.
02:37You can all find your inner aerobic sloth.
02:41Well, you did a beautiful job of it and you've done an incredible job of bringing up the energy for
02:46everybody.
02:47So thank you so much, Ben. Congratulations.
02:50On making it to the semi-final, everybody.
02:51Not bad. Thank you.
02:54Well, that's another mask off and another celebrity's identity released into the wild.
02:59Because it was Ben Vogel, just see what I did there.
03:00But as for me, I've got a show to run, Tales to Chase and drama to be nibbling on.
03:06Let's turn our twitchy little noses to my chat with the panel.
03:08I'm on stage with Catherine Ryan.
03:10You look absolutely royal.
03:12Correct.
03:12Tonight, yeah.
03:14We're going to play the name game. Are you ready?
03:15Yes, please.
03:16I'm actually a massive Catherine Ryan fan, so I'm a bit nervous.
03:19Likewise.
03:20Back at you.
03:22OK, someone clip that up and put it on my CV.
03:23We're going to do...
03:24Catherine, Hawaiian.
03:26Do you like pineapple on pizza?
03:28I don't like pizza, but I love pineapple.
03:31I'm celiac.
03:34Catherine, Lion bar.
03:36What's your favourite chocolate bar?
03:38Oh, I really love a Whisper.
03:41OK, British girl.
03:43I love a Whisper.
03:44British chocolate is the elite chocolate.
03:46Right now is not the time to ask me about chocolate.
03:48What's my favourite double-decker?
03:49All of them.
03:50I don't know.
03:52Catherine, Orion.
03:52Have you ever been stargazing?
03:55I tried.
03:56I went to Lapland and I was told...
03:59Yes.
03:59I was told that I could see the Northern Lights potentially from where we were in Northern
04:03Finland, but no dice.
04:05No dice.
04:06They didn't show up for you.
04:06No.
04:07I'm so sorry.
04:07Catherine Rye bun.
04:10Yeah.
04:10What would you order from the bakery?
04:12I do love a lemon tart.
04:14I love, like, a custard and fruit tart, raspberry tart, anything with fruit and custard.
04:19Catherine, Iron, do you like housework?
04:21Yes, I do.
04:22Do I know this about you because I follow you on all platforms?
04:24People assume that I have staff and I don't.
04:27And I love...
04:28Because of the way you dress.
04:29You look like you have staff in the best way.
04:31I'm Cleopatra today.
04:32Yeah.
04:33And we love it.
04:34Catherine Paul Simon.
04:35Yeah.
04:36Who's your favourite male singer?
04:38Yeah.
04:38Louis Capaldi.
04:39He's just so relatable.
04:41He's like, you can really reach out and touch him.
04:43And he's, like, sweet.
04:44And he cries about stuff sometimes.
04:46And he, like, portrays the type of masculinity that I think we need.
04:51Catherine Bryan May.
04:52In this studio.
04:53Who is your favourite band?
04:54For many, many...
04:55Space Girls.
04:56Great answer.
04:57Just quickly.
04:57Catherine Paraguayan.
04:59What's your favourite cuisine?
05:00Mexican.
05:01Yes!
05:02Love you, Catherine Ryan.
05:03Bye, Harriet.
05:04Thank you, thank you.
05:05Thank you so much.
05:05Thank you, thank you, thank you.
05:06Thank you, Catherine.
05:08Sorry.
05:09Well, I can't, I can't talk and walk because I'm wearing heels.
05:13Well, there you go.
05:15Same games, different day.
05:16I wind a panel up.
05:17They pretend I'm not auditioning for Joel Domit's job.
05:21Who's there that has a mask?
05:25Who's there that has a mask?
05:29I'm not sure I mentioned it, but yes, I was actually part of the show opener tonight.
05:33And I pretty much smashed it.
05:35I got on stage, danced my little touche off, and I managed not to fall over in a massive rat's
05:40head.
05:41And I'd say that's a pretty big accomplishment if you ask me.
05:43So, for today's BTS, I am going to go and meet Jamie, the creative producer of The Masked Singer.
05:48Come on.
05:51Jamie.
05:52Hello.
05:53How are you?
05:53I'm good, how are you?
05:54I'm excited because I've heard I've got a bit of a special job on today's show.
05:57You have, you've got a very special job.
05:59So I hear you're going to be part of one of our openers.
06:02What?
06:02Tell me everything.
06:03So today we're doing the conga with all of the dancers, all of the panel, Joel, and five mascots.
06:10So we've got a costume for you.
06:12Do you know what you're going to be?
06:13No, please tell me.
06:14You are a rat.
06:17Now that makes sense.
06:18This was made for Toasty's second performance in Walk This Way.
06:22So that is one of Toasty's friends.
06:24This rat version is going to be rat 2.0.
06:27Rat better than ever.
06:29Rat better than the first person who was in it, whoever it was.
06:31No offence to you.
06:32Right?
06:33Absolutely.
06:34Come on, Jamie.
06:34You know that I'm going to boss this.
06:36Well, I'll be with you because I am banana.
06:39I'm starstruck.
06:40I'm eating banana right now.
06:41Okay.
06:42Tell me something.
06:43Obviously, you've done this before.
06:44You're the creative producer.
06:46You know about this stuff.
06:47What's the method behind my character?
06:50Who am I?
06:51Where did I grow up?
06:52Where was I born?
06:53Bit of a cheeky one.
06:54Mmm.
06:55So you've got to get that into the body, into the movement.
06:58Okay.
06:58Obviously, when we're doing the conga, you are going to be in the line with us.
07:01Obviously, in these, the vision is through the eyes here.
07:05Mm-hmm.
07:05So we'll try it on for you and see, but it's a bit...
07:09It's difficult.
07:10It's not easy.
07:11One has to do what one has been asked to do, and a performer must perform.
07:15The show must go on, et cetera.
07:17I'm excited.
07:18I'm very excited to see you out there with us.
07:20I hope I don't outshine your banana.
07:21I will.
07:23Thank you, Jamie.
07:24Okay.
07:25This is yours.
07:26Go get changed.
07:27We'll see you in rehearsals.
07:28Wow.
07:29This feels powerful.
07:30Thanks, Jamie.
07:31No worries.
07:31See you later.
07:33Oh, wow.
07:33Can't wait to be rat.
07:34It feels like brat, but like the new version.
07:37I'm letting you in on a very intimate moment right now.
07:40A lot of performers need silence.
07:43A zen atmosphere.
07:46But not this rat.
07:48I thrive.
07:50I'm being filmed while I put my costume on.
07:54I guess that's me.
08:04I'm actually extremely nervous.
08:06This is the first time I've had to take my job seriously since I've been here.
08:10Just so you guys know, we've just been told we can't break character.
08:14As soon as we are seen by anyone, hats on.
08:16Because I am the rat.
08:17I will be the rat.
08:19Be the rat.
08:20Feel the rat.
08:21Vibe the rat.
08:22I'm rat.
08:23Let's go, guys.
08:28We're going to be the rat.
08:30We're going to be the rat.
08:31We're going to be the rat.
08:36We're going to be the rat.
08:40We're going to be the rat.
08:43We're going to be the rat.
08:45We're going to be the rat.
08:48We're going to be the rat.
08:49We're going to be the rat.
08:51We're going to be the rat.
08:53We're going to be the rat.
08:54We're going to be the rat.
08:54We're going to be the rat.
08:54We're going to be the rat.
08:54We're going to be the rat.
08:57It's a weird job, isn't it?
09:07Oh, my God!
09:19It's the semi-final!
09:26Hello to my adoring fans, whoa, that was the most terrifying experience of my life, are
09:35my eyebrows still on?
09:36I don't know what's going on, but I did it and I didn't fall over, although you might
09:40not have seen this right at the end, I did fall over a little bit, but hopefully they've
09:43cut that out.
09:44Yes, fine, the best mascot you've ever seen, but enough about me, it's time to shift the
09:48spotlight back to our second unmasked celebrity.
09:52Can of worms, aka Mr. Marvin Hughes, well, well, well, oh, here we go, here we go, oh my
10:00God, you know that this was, don't tell anyone, this is my favourite costume.
10:04Was it really?
10:05Yeah.
10:05Don't tell anyone though.
10:06Don't tell anyone.
10:07Top secret.
10:07How are ya?
10:08I'm good, how are you?
10:09I'm good, I'm good, I'm good.
10:10So it's just the most, I know you hear it from everyone, it's just the most bonkers show
10:16to be a part of, but the most fun.
10:17You know, I've been lucky enough to do it and I just got to perform one of the songs I
10:22sing to my kids at home, do you know what I mean?
10:24So it's, yeah, it's a lot of fun.
10:26We've had some real variety from you on the show, as I would have expected, dance hall,
10:30musical theatre, all over the place.
10:31Yeah.
10:32Talk to me about your song choices, because you are obviously an incredible musician
10:35already.
10:36Tell me, talk me through the process.
10:38That was the whole thing.
10:38When, you know, we spoke about doing the show, I just wanted to be completely across the
10:42board.
10:43My first song was Be Our Guest from Beauty and the Beast.
10:47It's a big tune to be fair.
10:48But I've got to play around with the soup de jus, hot hors d'oeuvres, all stuff like
10:51that.
10:52And we were all very impressed with your French.
10:55Très bien.
10:56And then Ghostbusters, which is like super American.
10:59Did a bit of Sean Paul, and then I did, oh, Pure Imagination, which is one of my favourite
11:04songs.
11:05And I drive my kids mad singing that at home when we're watching the movie.
11:09So now you've come in and done it on telly, so they have to watch it on TV.
11:12Exactly.
11:13Perfect.
11:13Then obviously tonight, Cha Cha Slide.
11:15Who doesn't love the Cha Cha Slide?
11:17I want to know, because obviously as a singer, was it liberating singing inside a
11:22can of worms costume?
11:23Do you know what, what's really strange for me, I haven't sung by myself.
11:28In a long time.
11:30Like I'm used to being with three other guys on stage.
11:34And that's quite a comfort, like a security.
11:37So for me, although I'm completely masked, it's still quite, been quite strange for me
11:42to be out on my own singing, which I've enjoyed.
11:45And even obviously tonight with the mask come off, I fully enjoyed.
11:48Do you know what I mean?
11:49Oh, solo career incoming.
11:50Very nice.
11:50Did you talk to Aston about doing it?
11:52Because obviously he was on the show.
11:54He placed third in series two.
11:56When he did the show, he told me like, you know, how much he enjoyed it, how much he
12:00loved it and that I should do it.
12:01And I was a bit like, not sure, you know, singing by myself, et cetera, et cetera.
12:05Then when I decided to do it, no, I didn't tell him at all.
12:08I love that.
12:09So he sat there right now going, you've got Brit Awards, MOBOs, you've sold over 10 million
12:14records.
12:15Is this your greatest career achievement?
12:17One million percent.
12:19Knew it.
12:19Of course.
12:20Who wouldn't be on TV every Saturday night dressed as a can of worms?
12:22Like, come on, this is it.
12:23This tops all of that.
12:25Marvin Humes, you have warmed the hearts of the nation with your can of worms.
12:28Got to the semifinal of The Masked Singer.
12:30Honestly, you've smashed it.
12:32Thank you so much.
12:32And honestly, what a lovely boy.
12:34Oh, thank you so much.
12:35What a lovely boy.
12:35Marvin Humes, everybody.
12:36Can of worms.
12:38Well, the judges have officially closed that can of worms.
12:42It's that time again.
12:43A special prime delivery with a clue from one of our very own Masked Singers.
12:46And tonight it is Toasty.
12:50What have we got in here?
12:51Oh, it's paints.
12:54Could be someone with a passion for art.
12:55Could be someone who's literally an artist.
12:57First artist coming into my head, Tracy Emin.
12:59Someone who's very colourful.
13:01Paloma Faith likes to wear a lot of colour.
13:03She'd be amazing.
13:04I would literally be so excited.
13:07So, this is the clue.
13:09Art.
13:10Colourful.
13:11Paint.
13:12Have a think and keep those guesses coming in.
13:16And that's all from me, folks.
13:18I danced, I masked up, and I dazzled the panel.
13:20I got a whisker closer to stealing Joel Domit's job.
13:24I also learnt that backstage smells like deep heat and fear.
13:27Thank you guys for being on this emotional journey with me.
13:29But hold on to your faux fur because next week it's the big one.
13:33The final.
13:34I'll be saying off with their heads to our three Masked Singer finalists.
13:38If I change your opinion, please.
14:07Don't die with me.
14:08There you go."
14:08You
