00:04I'm John Cena and I love cars ever since I got my first ride at 14 I've been
00:11obsessed with everything about them there's no cool way to do this hey guys
00:15I'm in the car I've had the privilege of driving them all from luxury cars to
00:19SUVs to sports cars 30 to 100 miles an hour in a matter of seconds if it's got
00:25four wheels I need to know every single detail about it I feel like when you run
00:31out of the tunnel at WrestleMania that's how excited I the passion I have for
00:36cars is matched by the admiration I have for people with grit drive and
00:41perseverance and to me there's nothing better than connecting with someone to
00:45find out what fuels their drive to succeed so join me as I spend time with
00:50the most successful celebrities on the planet and talk about what drives them
00:54both on the road and in their heart we'll get intimate details and some
00:58stories you've never heard before as well as taking a look at their really really
01:04really cool rides this is what drives you with John Cena
01:13today I'm in Orlando Florida to meet the most decorated women's wrestler in WWE
01:18history Charlotte Flair born Ashley Elizabeth Flair she is wrestling royalty as the
01:25daughter of WWE Hall of Famer and icon Ric Flair she set her sights on the WWE
01:31choosing her ring name Charlotte Flair and has been kicking ass ever since
01:38here we go but in December of 2023 Charlotte injured her ACL so I'm anxious to check in on her
01:46recovery I also want to hear more about the challenges of breaking free of her dad's shadow
01:50the heartbreaking struggles her brother Reed faced and how she views her role in lifting up
01:56women athletes I love any chance I get to hang with Charlotte
02:00I love you hi John
02:19so much for doing this I appreciate you of course thanks for coming good wow awesome place thank you
02:27this is the most exciting room in the house or at least I think it's like look this is your
02:32office
02:32yeah it looks awesome so of all the stuff that's on the walls is there something that means the most
02:42I
02:43love the picture of my dad and Reed in the limo and then probably my divas championship when I retired
02:50it just because like oh I made it so it's probably the first big thing I did gotcha tell me
02:57about the robe
02:57I wore this robe at Wrestlemania 34 and actually you did a run-in after this match up the ramp
03:07I did
03:07so that's not why it's special but thank you for but that match was one of my best Wrestlemania matches
03:16and I only wore it that one time I think hmm so it's kind of retired to the office WWE
03:22is known the
03:24world over how does it make you feel when you see something like this when your face is on the
03:29poster for
03:30me just being a woman and then the only female on the poster and like front and center I'm like
03:36oh yeah
03:36I know you're recovering from an injury uh right or left leg okay so it's not the accelerator leg
03:42so we'll still be able to drive yes and you're gonna take me to physical therapy
03:48physical which I'm actually super excited let's go please after you
03:52very cool office thank you so much how's it been so far physical therapy
03:57at first I was devastated with it being Wrestlemania 40 but now that I've needed a challenge
04:02like this in my personal life because I felt kind of not that I want to be injured but you
04:08needed a
04:08challenge what do you mean by that I've never been injured other than getting my teeth knocked out
04:13multiple times so this being taken out and having to work around it it's opened my eyes to just how
04:19much I maybe took for granted how lucky and healthy I was for so long how's the journey been so
04:25far
04:27like a typical journey that's good well we're going to talk about that on the ride what I want
04:32to talk about before we go on the ride is the ride it is gorgeous yep the Range Rover has
04:40a rich
04:40heritage of British craftsmanship Queen Elizabeth personally owned seven of them in her time the
04:47designer of the Range Rover may have worked on jet and gas turbine engines but his car is also eco
04:52-conscious
04:54built into the body is the equivalent of nearly 60 pounds of recycled plastic and yet it was
04:59beautiful enough to be displayed in the Louvre in Paris where it was considered a masterpiece of
05:03industrial design why the Range Rover sport so I'll go back to when I was in my team yeah let's
05:10do it
05:22I was obsessed with Freddie Prince jr and his yellow defender yeah like and she's all that of course
05:30everyone remembers that car I was like this is my dream car mom and dad if you don't buy me
05:35this defender
05:36so for my 15th birthday my parents surprised me with a green Land Rover they had the car waiting
05:44with balloons and everything and I was like this sounds so bratty but I was like it's green and then
05:51for my 16th they didn't get me the defender but they found a limited edition Land Rover that was yellow
05:58with the carbon fiber hood that's right and then when I started to make money when I bought my first
06:04one
06:04I was like oh I made it man I'm doing good enough to do this for myself yes cool I'm
06:11a Rover fan myself
06:12so I love this truck yeah I think they're super capable I think they're super sexy yes this color
06:17is awesome the metallic black is fantastic I know we got some work to do on your knee and I
06:23want to
06:23talk about a bunch of stuff you just shared so let's get in the car and go for a ride
06:39how long have you been doing this wrestling thing I started July 2012 no prior experience
06:46coming from you yeah that sounds weird I know no but it's awesome as a young girl did you ever
06:53think
06:54that this would be a path no definitely not why because I just played sports that's what I was
07:00good at wrestling this wasn't a thing I was like oh that's where you take your friends and show off
07:07what did you think was gonna be your path at 17 18 I loved volleyball loved loved loved and then
07:16when I
07:17got to college I kind of got a little lost when I ended up quitting volleyball and I got lost
07:22in
07:22college too such an interesting time and I was on the five-year plan at least you had a plan
07:31I just knew I
07:34had to graduate it was just like that's what you do you graduate from high school you graduate from
07:38college and then you get a job I graduated from NC State moved back to Charlotte and just found my
07:44way
07:44into personal training because that's what I knew how did even getting involved in sports
07:49entertainment come about so it's happy and sad my brother Reed all he ever wanted to do was be my
07:59dad
08:01from the moment he could walk he was gonna be a wrestler after college Reed was in and out of
08:08rehabs
08:10kicked out of school living with me not living with me ultimately when the four horsemen were inducted
08:18into the Hall of Fame in 2012 one of the WWE producers was at dinner with my dad and I
08:26think they were
08:26trying to get like Reed thinking about his future so the producer said to me hey why aren't you doing
08:32this
08:33why aren't you doing this to me what do you mean why aren't you doing this like the business oh
08:37you
08:37said to you like yeah why aren't you so into this why aren't you into this yes I was like
08:42dad I want
08:42to do this I want to do this I want to do this can you help me did you relatively
08:46easily get the
08:47opportunity for a tryout Hunter called me because he'd known me for a long time I think he was a
08:53little
08:56apprehensive yeah I'm just concerned about why he even said to me you know just because we're gonna give
09:01you a job doesn't mean we're gonna give Reed a job I thought if I got in could I get
09:07Reed in and if Reed
09:09got in could I help him stay the course like would he stay sober could he fulfill his dreams cuz
09:16I
09:16didn't have any dreams like I was like oh I just play sports but Reed died the year I started
09:27here I am like doing all these things and he's not here and if he hadn't had a dream I
09:34don't know
09:35like wrestling gave me life it gave me purpose it gave me confidence like I can literally walk out in
09:40front of 105,000 people and be like I'm that girl but like wrestling gave me that they had got
09:47me on the
09:48right path it gave me structure and it allowed me to fulfill my brother's dream you've said it was
10:00easy to get hired in the WWM but you also got hired as the daughter of Ric Flair one of
10:05the most known
10:07names in our Avenue around the world that comes with such a heavy weight well it's never about
10:17making him proud he is just who he is I'm proud to be his daughter but even though he got
10:24me in like
10:24he didn't talk to me about wrestling later down the road they had him be my manager for like a
10:30year so
10:30that meant he went everywhere I went so he sitting at the monitor at live events and everyone's asking him
10:36questions about their match and like I never went to my dad I just couldn't you guys never talked
10:41about the business when he saw me and Natty's match in my first big match when I won the NXT
10:47Women's Championship that match actually I think made my dad take me serious and had that match not
10:53happened showing them what we can do I don't think I'd be here today after that match he notices
10:59finally that holy smokes my my daughter is good at this that wasn't like a priority in my life that
11:06wasn't a thing it was just like constantly trying to earn the respect of my peers I wanted my peers
11:12to like
11:22me describe to me the women's evolution within the WWE I think women in sports overall has made an
11:31impact over the last what 10 15 years proving that they can draw revenue and sell out arenas so as
11:39the
11:39world started to change and with the women's USA soccer team and Ronda Rousey I feel as if our company
11:47somewhat had to listen to that and when I started at the time total divas had just launched which started
11:55bringing in outside eyeballs people who wouldn't tune into wrestling maybe would because of total divas
12:03yeah so when they decided okay what if we give them five minutes ten minutes bring up new girls well
12:13I happen to be in that new girl group there was three of us after 10 years I main evented
12:18raw and then went
12:20on to main event Hell in a Cell then went on to main event Wrestlemania 35 which in our industry
12:26as you
12:26know women main eventing Wrestlemania is like you would have never thought of that even probably the
12:32year prior to that for the first time in the history of our broadcast women will be the final most
12:37suspenseful most important act yep we've had so many first now that it's now common to see certain shows
12:47where the women are the main focal point of the main story how does that make you feel well I
12:52say that
12:53like nonchalantly but I still fight for that because it's not a given unfortunately like the
12:58women's division just isn't as big or doesn't have as much depth as the men's division what's left for
13:06you to do well selfishly I am so close to 16 what is 60 my dad is known as a
13:1516 time world heavyweight
13:17champion and I guess selfishly for me I'm so close how many are you I'm at 14 you're 14 yeah
13:25I think
13:26you're not the only one that wants to see an accomplishment like that with your name on it
13:30why do you say selfishly there's so many layers to it like to know what my dad means to the
13:36industry
13:37and then to even be talked about in that category it was just like mind-boggling and then to be
13:44talked
13:44about with the likes of John Cena Randy Orton Triple H my dad but being a female like there's no
13:52greater
13:53honor in our like our business like you're being talked about with the greats but as a woman I want
13:59the world to see what I've accomplished here for women like I never said this to my dad but like
14:05that
14:05box with you guys and the and with the action figures I'm like I'm in there not him the kids
14:10don't
14:10come to see me at shows because of him they come to see me because of me like some of
14:15them don't
14:15even know who he is what I'm hearing is possibly the reason for the selfish comment is 16 means to
14:24you that we've earned the right to be you and not someone's daughter kind of I know that a number
14:30would change that but it's still like surreal to me I don't take it for granted
14:44so now we're like parked right in front of physical therapy and I'm not gonna go in yet
14:49because the show is called what drives you and you are so driven you are so accomplished you are so
14:57beautiful and smart what drives you thanks John um my little brother's dream opened so many doors
15:08when I spent so long trying to save his life he ultimately saved mine and now it's that like
15:15inner fire for what I do like I really do love like being in that ring thank you for sharing
15:23all
15:23that stuff uh let's go in and do some nice stuff okay why do you go to physical therapy and
15:33heels
15:33I really just wanted to look cute when you open the door it warms my heart thank you
15:45Hara you know John yeah okay thanks so much for your time yeah sure welcome what did you do if
15:53you
15:53don't mind sharing full ACL bruising on my MCL and they only shaved down my meniscus gotcha so
16:01seven weeks today procedure let's go here we go
16:07you okay mm-hmm so seven weeks post-surgery mm-hmm how do you feel the patient is doing she's
16:13killing it well I don't want to get in the way of the work let's get to work okay let's
16:16hop up on the
16:17table over here so I know that you say the injury has been a challenge hopefully people can see you
16:25go through this and know the sacrifice because we deal with this all the time I thought it was all
16:31just fake this is a very very real situation this is my moneymaker and when I first got hurt the
16:41only
16:41thing I kept going through my mind was like what if I can't be the Charlotte that they're used to
16:45when I
16:46go back all I can think about is I have to be what they are used to when I go
16:51back do you I want to
16:54be better okay and it happened at tribute to the troops and that was I mean live and I just
17:03couldn't
17:03stop did you finish the performance yeah you have 300 soldiers behind you watching you yeah
17:15can't be a baby and not finish my match thanks got goosebumps Wow I'm gonna have you go on the
17:30bike
17:30okay just short quick five or six minutes okay and then we'll come back here and start work awesome
17:37let's go bike what do you do to warm up usually oh I don't know a little bit of bike
17:45a little bit of this
17:45a little bit of that so the first two weeks I couldn't even bend my knee to do it but
17:53now it's
17:53going man you had some great moments in this building right yeah you kind of brought the WWE
18:01into this thing I remember being in there when we had promo class in there before it was the arena
18:07the
18:09first promo I ever cut was some promo about being the top of the mountain the irony I remember like
18:17it was yesterday okay so we're using a balance board to show that she's not compensating too much
18:31because if she was putting more weight on her non-surgical side the board would tip
18:40see your lower back flexibility there's nothing down there it's all gelatin show off you see his
18:46chest is up yeah so more ailments mine's bigger that's why have you always had that range of motion
18:57there is that because you're such a good snatch well thank you I shave okay I love this place for
19:10so
19:10many reasons and I know you have history here what I love most is how you set it up because
19:16you come
19:16into this room to graduate to that room to graduate to the next room and now now there's this
19:41seeing this how does this make you feel I'm so proud to be a success story from here in an
19:49ideal
19:49scenario what's the timeline to get you back in here I think just mentally I want to have it in
19:54my mind
19:55that like I am prepared to be where I'm at physically at six months I want to come back conditioned
20:01that was
20:02a major mistake I made in 2008 I came back when I was I was fine but I wasn't conditioned
20:07how long
20:07did it take you that not long yeah that's what I was going to say it's just that one match
20:11I was lucky
20:11I was lucky I love being in here but I know you also need to be in there you've done
20:19so well with
20:20your rehab and man I loved our conversation I can't wait until the next time thank you so much for
20:25today
20:44Charlotte Flair is tough both physically and mentally I really admire her outside of being an
20:51icon in the WWE what I really like is she's actually very humble and down to earth the Range Rover
20:58is a car she's
20:59loved since she was a kid and it's fun to see her continue to drive one it makes sense they're
21:05both
21:05exceptionally strong and I wish her continued success on the road to recovery
21:19and with that welcome to a place that drives me my garage this is a replica of a 1966 Jaguar
21:28XJ 13 the story behind the car is amazing they built one and they built it to test it so
21:34they
21:34brought it out of storage and crashed it and it was ruined and Jaguar had to spend a ton of
21:41money to
21:41make a second XJ 13 that car currently sits in the British motoring museum the design of this car is
21:49captivating it's undeniably Jaguar it's specially e-type and when you open the door to get in you
21:55realize there's no steering wheel that's because it was converted to right-hand drive which I absolutely
22:01love I look ridiculous driving this car because my head sticks out of this thing see what I mean
22:10we're gonna try to get this thing opened up it does not want to behave and I like it now
22:17I know why
22:18they crashed the original she's the tough son of a bitch to wrangle you're kind of on the high rough
22:23seas in the dinghy this is dangerous fun and as you can see my head sticks out of the top
22:32but sometimes you got to ask yourself is the juice worth the squeeze in this case I'd say yes
22:38because look at it it's beautiful I like the fact that you got to earn it and you got to
22:43listen to
22:44the music of the engine because it is a fun drive when you get in the symphony to play together
22:50so until next time this is John Cena reminding you to never stop asking yourself what drives you
23:21so
23:30you
