00:09ok then guys welcome to rampart this is the atari links conversion bloody good it is too
00:16as you can see it's got some nice little animated intro which isn't in the other home versions that i'm
00:22aware of
00:23it came out in a hell of a lot of systems though so it's quite possible i may have missed
00:27it
00:27anyway let's get down to the meat of the actual game and it's a really nice little strategy title
00:34so we'll go for recruit and we'll start off nice and easy
00:38so basically first of all you want to choose your castle so we're going to go for this one here
00:43because there's a nice little range so you're pretty safe there so once you've chosen your
00:49castle you get a small wall and you get a set amount of cannons and as you can see this
00:56is a
00:56little cutscene showing you that hey the cannons are out so as you can see there we've got three
01:02cannons that we can place you want to you want to place them as close together as you can and
01:09now
01:10it's combat yeah so let's go ready aim nice speech and everything so obviously what we're doing now
01:20is the ships are attacking me and we blow the shit out of them and we blow the shit out
01:25of them good so
01:27and then once that's done
01:31it's rebuild time and we've got a blank screen it's rebuild time and as you can see it's a bit
01:41like
01:41Tetris now so you you got your shapes you can turn them around and ideally you want to you want
01:50to build
01:51this as quickly as you can because you obviously only get a limited amount of time
01:58and if I'm not careful I'm gonna die oh shit just missed it bit tricky to get to the
02:10go inside well let's um let's go back into it again see if we have any more luck this time
02:19but I just
02:21think this is a really slick version it works really well on the links the original arcade game first
02:28came out with a trackable although there was a kit version which basically used the joystick as well
02:33obviously the joystick is not going to be anywhere near as responsive but it's surprising how well this
02:38works on the um on Atari's little handheld so here we go obviously visually it's nothing special but
02:46everything is nice and clear does look really good on the links the screen as well sound as impressive
02:55as you can tell oh look at my look at my home here so basically the red armies um won
03:03that because we
03:04was able to take out the ground forces and now we get to choose a new location to defend so
03:09um let's go
03:09for this one so again we choose car so as you can see there's a lot more boats this time
03:14around
03:16now in the arcades you could play this up to three players and it was immense fun
03:20unfortunately you've only got two player on the links as far as i'm aware via multi-tap
03:25but um it's just very good again nice little animation it doesn't really do anything some say
03:35that it cuts up the action but i think it all works quite nicely oh come on look at the
03:43reach off
03:43nothing worse than your shots just falling short on the old cannonball so as you can see my um
03:51castle's taken a hell of a lot of damage little men will come out eventually oh look at this that's
03:56the problem with emulation
04:00so and here we go let's um let's quickly build it back up so quick as we can

04:25oh i've not done it again oh look i've got i've got a tiny little tiny little bass bit
04:33so normally what would happen now i'm doing terrible on this what would happen now is that
04:38obviously your castle if you can make it bigger you'll be given more cannons which makes it that
04:43little bit easier to basically take on the assault so i'm obviously i'm i'm i'm not playing it very
04:50well here at the moment but hopefully you've got you've got the gist of how this works um it came
04:57out
04:57on everything from like it came out the snares the mega drive the um the amiga so odds are you're
05:06going to have a system at home which can play this great little game

05:41we're getting all these bonuses which is how you rack up your high score and the scenario begins all
05:47over again so it's a fairly straightforward game fairly simplistic but you know as with a lot of
05:52puzzle strategy games it's often the simplest strategies that tend to work the best anyway
