00:32So hi, let's start with a brief presentation of the game, what's The Darkness 2?
00:37The Darkness 2 continues the story of the first game
00:39The first game ended with Jackie avenging his girlfriend Jenny's death
00:42He killed his uncle Polly and he became the dawn of the French Raid crime family
00:45So our game starts two years after that
00:47Jackie managed to keep the darkness balled up inside, he didn't need to use it
00:51I mean, he was the dawn of the crime family now, he had other guys to do his dirty work
00:54But at the beginning of our game, he's having dinner at a restaurant
00:56And some men put out a hit on him
00:58And Jackie barely gets out with his life
01:00The only way he was able to survive was actually using the Darkness powers
01:03So at that point, Jackie goes on a quest to find out who these men were that tried to attack
01:07him
01:07And what do they want with them
01:09It turns out they're the Brotherhood
01:10They're this ancient organization led by a man named Victor Valente
01:13And they want to steal the Darkness powers for themselves to use for their benefit
01:20So basically the game involves Jackie searching these guys out
01:23And the demo we showed you here, he tracks them down to an old abandoned carnival
01:26Okay, it's always difficult to develop a game that you didn't originally developed
01:33Because the first one was from Star Breeze
01:34So, do you feel any oppression or are you afraid of any comparison?
01:40We definitely feel the pressure
01:41I mean, the Darkness one had a lot of fans
01:43A lot of Star Breeze fans really loved it
01:45And weren't too happy that Digital Extremes was doing the sequel
01:47But you know, we have a lot of respect for the first game
01:50We really loved it
01:50It told an amazing story and it was really fun
01:52So we're just trying to continue that tradition
01:54So we have really cool gameplay with our quad wielding
01:56Where you can use your demon arms in concert with your guns
01:59So it's a really dynamic system
02:01Where you can be slashing enemies
02:02Grabbing them or shooting them all at the same time
02:04And so we have that great action
02:06But we also have a cool story that we're telling
02:08We have the same writer from the first game, Paul Jenkins, writing our story
02:11So there's a good continuation there
02:13It really does feel like the same universe
02:15So we're really proud of the results
02:16I think people are really going to like it
02:17Yeah, and what did you like of the first, the Darkness
02:20And what you're trying to change with this sequel?
02:24Well, I really like the story of the Darkness
02:26I thought it did a really good job of presenting the characters
02:28And making you care about the characters and feel for them
02:30So that's what we're trying to do there
02:32Is really get that same kind of interaction with the characters
02:34And then I just like using the Darkness powers
02:36You know, they're so different
02:37It's not like any other shooter
02:39They really make it unique
02:40Where you can do all these other crazy things
02:42But also use your guns
02:42So that's what we're trying to work on a lot
02:44Is really amp that up
02:45Take what we started in the first one
02:47And take it to the next level
02:48So that's our quad wielding
02:49And that's also our progression system
02:50Which is new to Darkness 2
02:51So as you're earning kills
02:53Sorry, as you're killing
02:54You're earning essence
02:54And as you're eating hearts
02:56You're also earning essence
02:57And you spend that
02:57To buy new powers
02:59And upgrade your powers
03:00So that's a really cool dynamic
03:01That really gives the players
03:02A lot of different ways
03:03To play the game
03:03Yeah, why have you chosen
03:04To make this big change
03:06In the graphical aspect of the game
03:07I respect the first one
03:09Right
03:09Well, you know
03:10We spend a lot of time
03:11Reading the comic books
03:12And, you know
03:13We love the Top Cow comics
03:14We just thought
03:15They looked really nice
03:17And just the way the colors
03:18The vibrancy of that
03:19Contrasted with the darkness
03:20And the dark mood of the comics
03:22Was really interesting
03:23And we just thought
03:24It would be really neat
03:25If we could mimic that feel
03:26In the game
03:26And make it feel like
03:27You're playing a comic book
03:28So that's when we developed
03:29Our graphic noir art style
03:30And we just really love it
03:31Yeah, when the game
03:32Will be out
03:33And on which platform
03:34Darkness 2 is releasing
03:35On October 4th
03:37On the Xbox 360
03:38The PS3
