00:3520 years ago I deployed to Iraq during the first Gulf War with a Special Air Service
00:40with a mission to go and cut a fiber optic cable that was running from the Iraqi headquarters in Baghdad
00:48to the scud teams that were in the western deserts of Iraq that were firing into Israel
00:54The call sign, the radio call sign of that patrol was called Bravo 2-0
00:59The mission, we didn't accomplish the mission
01:018 man foot patrol was sent to the northwest of Baghdad to find this fiber optic cable
01:08During the mission itself, three men died
01:11Four were captured at different times on the Iraq and Syrian border
01:17as we tried to escape the Iraqis
01:19and only one made it to the safety of Syria
01:21and eventually back to the Allied forces in Saudi Arabia
01:25I served another three years in the Special Air Service
01:28and it was then I got approached about writing the book Bravo 2-0 about that patrol's experience
01:36and by everybody's surprise the book went way beyond what the expectations were
01:43and even today it's the biggest selling war book of all time around the world
01:48It's not so much the details of what weapon does what or what is going on on the ground
01:53What it's all about is, you know, what does that weapon smell like after it's been fired?
01:57What does it feel like?
01:58And more importantly, what does the character who's firing a weapon, what do they feel?
02:02And why are they doing what they do?
02:04And that's what you're going to get from Battlefield 3
02:08It's just not so much the story of, you know, Dima, the Russian
02:13who's part of the Battlefield 3 story
02:16He's actually trying to get behind that
02:18and just like the game, it's all about the story
02:23and we can expand the game and look at it from a different point of view
