00:00A handsome Jack is this guy that you kind of like, but at the same time he's a bad guy.
00:06We've all seen characters like this that have a lot of power and they're really suave and really cool,
00:11but at the same time you kind of fundamentally know that they're evil.
00:14And so we tried to give him this really attractive manly face with a long chin,
00:20and at the same time there's just something a little wrong with him when you look at it.
00:23And so you sort of know that underneath there there's going to be something a little off.
00:28Jack buying Hyperion and using it to sort of take over Pandora,
00:32we wanted to have a really strong symbolism for what Hyperion was
00:35and what that devastation meant to Pandora because Pandora was already a pretty bad place.
00:41Like how do you mess up a bad place?
00:43And we realized that it was, you know, to mess with what people loved about Pandora in the first place,
00:47which was the bandits and they loved all the crazy, wacky fun.
00:50And so really the visual language for Hyperion became straight and plain because, and that's not fun, right?
00:57Like straight lines are boring.
00:58We really tried to make that style really conflict with all the crazy, junky, bandity stuff that you were used
01:04to from the first game.
01:05So, for example, you know, might have a janky little bandit town with fun signs and crazy skills
01:11and they've, you know, Hyperion has just come in and paved the place and painted it yellow.
01:15And so you're just sort of like, damn, you wrecked it, you know?
01:18And so that way he still is the bad guy even though he's killing the bad guys.
01:23One of the first questions I asked myself is how will people know when they see a screenshot of Borderlands
01:282
01:28that it's Borderlands 2 instead of Borderlands 1?
01:31And once I knew Jack was going to be this huge sort of industrial millionaire,
01:37I knew I needed him to do something really big to Pandora that we didn't like.
01:42And the moon was ever present in Pandora because of the way our day and night cycle works in the
01:46game.
01:46The moon never moves and it's the source of light.
01:49And so I wanted him to sort of blot that out by putting his giant Hyperion H right in front
01:53of it.
01:54And I wanted you to sort of be like, damn those jerks, they're like shitting all over my Pandora, you
01:58know?
02:00And so that's really where that whole idea came from.
02:02And since Hyperion invented Claptrap, the Hyperion eye is always sort of a central image.
02:09You know, wherever you go, it's always up there in the sky staring down at you.
02:12And you kind of always know that he's got an eye on you.
02:14And that definitely comes up in the story as well.
02:17.
