00:02:48Kamusta kayo, Sirs?
00:02:50Hi, good evening.
00:02:52Good evening, everyone.
00:02:54Ayan.
00:02:55Sobrang mahal din ba ng gasolina dyan?
00:02:58Yes, sir.
00:03:00Ayan.
00:03:01Oo.
00:03:01Oo.
00:03:03So, simulan na natin.
00:03:05So, si Sir Luke muna.
00:03:07Sir Luke, kamusta?
00:03:11And, directly na natin.
00:03:14Kailan ka nag-start?
00:03:16Anong inspiration mo sa pagiging photographer?
00:03:22Ayan.
00:03:22So, hello po sa mga nakikinig at saka nanonood.
00:03:27So, I started photography po noong 2013.
00:03:32So, yun po yung pag-graduate ko po ng college sa USD.
00:03:35And then, eventually, I got inspired, okay, na mag-pursuit talaga ng photography natin because of my dad.
00:03:44Kasi ang dad ko is also a professional photographer.
00:03:48So, since high school pa ako noon, so, minsan sumasama ako sa mga shoot niya.
00:03:53So, just to observe or assist kung if ever man kailangan.
00:03:58And then, eventually, na-practice ko siya noong after kong graduate sa college.
00:04:04And, yeah.
00:04:05So, up until now, I still do professional photography and continuous pa rin naman po.
00:04:14Yung father mo, saan genre siya ng photography?
00:04:19Si Daddy, more on, marami.
00:04:23Maraming, may siya nag-food siya.
00:04:26Pero, mostly, ang bonding namin dalawa ng dad ko is street photography.
00:04:30Ah, so, ano siya?
00:04:32So, more on, siguro sa ads?
00:04:35Ad, advertising.
00:04:36Ah, advertising.
00:04:37Tapos, ayun, gandang bonding niya na.
00:04:40Ano, street photography.
00:04:42Ah, po.
00:04:43Ayun.
00:04:43Mostly, yun ang usually, lagi namin pinag-requentuhan every time nagkikita kami.
00:04:48Ayun, puro photography talaga.
00:04:50Bali, ngayon, ang photography is your main job or?
00:04:57Ah, yes, po.
00:04:58I also, I'm also a photography instructor po with College of St. Benilde sa Taft and then also with National
00:05:07University Manila.
00:05:08Ah.
00:05:09Yes, po.
00:05:10So, kilala niyo din si, ano, sila, sila BJ.
00:05:14Sir Tony.
00:05:15Sir Tony, last time.
00:05:16Sir Tony, nakita ko po, sir.
00:05:18Yes, po.
00:05:18Oh, si BJ.
00:05:19Si Sir Javier din.
00:05:21Ah, po.
00:05:22Yes, sir.
00:05:22Ah, po.
00:05:23Professors po natin sa CSV.
00:05:26Dito tayo kay Sir Jijo.
00:05:27Sir Jijo.
00:05:29Ah.
00:05:30Hi.
00:05:31Ganon din.
00:05:31Sigrado.
00:05:33Malayo na to.
00:05:36Isa si Sir Jijo sa mga nilook-up ko ang photographers nung nag-start.
00:05:42Sir Jijo, when did you start and yung inspiration mo din, sir?
00:05:48Ah, okay.
00:05:50As, ah, as it was announced, no, it, I'm celebrating 20 years in photography.
00:05:56So, I started in 2006.
00:06:00Um, just like everyone else, I, I just wanted to, to learn the craft, take photos of my family, my
00:06:08kids, and our activities, no.
00:06:10Yun lang ako, yun lang ang reason ko, ah, why I wanted to take up photography.
00:06:17Now, ah, but that's the, what put me on this track was because I grew up as an athlete, and
00:06:26at that time I took up photography.
00:06:29Um, some of my kids were also into sports.
00:06:32So, yun ang naging immediate subject ko, sila, swimmers, yun.
00:06:40And, ah, my son at that time, ah, you know, was in elementary.
00:06:46Pagsusundoyin ko siya sa school, ah, nakakapag-shoot ako ng mga UAAP games doon sa school nila.
00:06:54Hindi pa mahigpit, no, 20 years ago, anyone can just go in and take photos.
00:06:59So, that became my, some sort of my training ground, ah, shooting UAAP games.
00:07:08Um, ah, junior basketball, senior football, volleyball, ganyan.
00:07:14And, kaya ako naging sports photographer.
00:07:17Before I knew it, I was shooting events already.
00:07:21I was getting calls to, to, to cover events.
00:07:25Tapos, unti-unti nang, unti-unti nang lumaki from there.
00:07:32Ah, so, umal, balit doon ka sa, ano talaga, na, parang doon na hasa sa sports.
00:07:40Yes, I would say, yun, yun ang foundation ko talaga.
00:07:44Until today, I still shoot sports.
00:07:46But, after doing photography for many years, na, natutunan ko na rin yung ibang genre, na, nahiligan ko na rin.
00:07:53So, it's not just sports these days.
00:07:55But, that's my foundation.
00:07:58And, I say that because even until today, my shooting style, my techniques, a lot of it are carryovers from
00:08:09my sports photography.
00:08:10Yung style of shooting ko, like yung, in particular, yung burst mode, for example, kahit na street photography yan, naka
00:08:28Is that for, sports talaga.
00:08:30Is that for safety shots?
00:08:34Yeah, yung burst modes, yeah, safety shots, saka, um, these days, I'm much more of a street photographer.
00:08:43Hindi ako mahilig mag-post, ah, hindi rin naman ako magaling mag-post, so, iniiwasan ko agat mari.
00:08:50I try to capture candid, you know, unmediated moments.
00:08:54And, I, I learned, you know, years ago, that when you shoot in bursts, when you apply it in other
00:09:01forms of photography,
00:09:02nakakakuha ka ng mga, mga brief moments na otherwise mamimiss mo pagka paisa-isa lang ang pitik mo yan.
00:09:11So, it's, it's for, ano, it's for capturing moments.
00:09:15Nabasa ko din sa brief detail nung, nung photography journey nyo po.
00:09:22So, ah, nag, nag, nag-photojournalism po din po kayo.
00:09:30Um, I wouldn't call it photojournalism full-time, no, kasi hindi naman ako nagsusulat.
00:09:37And, but, I only as went as far as being a stringer.
00:09:42Okay.
00:09:43And a contributor for GMA News, ABS-CBN, and I had a few stints with the Associated Press.
00:09:51Yes, nakita ko yan.
00:09:51Yan.
00:09:52Oh, but I wouldn't call myself a photojournalist.
00:09:56More of a stringer, yan, contributor, yan.
00:09:59Ah, anong, anong mga klaseng kinokontribute nyo dun?
00:10:04Klaseng coverages?
00:10:06Sa GMA News nun, um, I was contributing under Joe Galvez, no?
00:10:12Ah, may he recently see.
00:10:14Oh, yeah.
00:10:14Yeah.
00:10:15Oh, I was contributing daily, you know, daily captures.
00:10:19Nothing in particular, kung anong nakuhanan ko maganda, ipadala ko sa kanya.
00:10:25Human interest.
00:10:27Human interest, um, current events, uh, some news, uh, events, yan, ganyan.
00:10:36Sa Associated Press naman, it's purely sports.
00:10:40As sports.
00:10:41I, yeah, I help out, uh, the agency in covering sporting events.
00:10:47Ah, shout-out muna kay John Chris Genova.
00:10:53Hi.
00:10:53I, yeah, John Togonon.
00:10:57Hello, Sir Gijo, Sir Luke.
00:10:59Hello po, from John Togonon.
00:11:01From Sir Maxwell John, ang nanalo ng Sinulog Grand Champion.
00:11:09Si Sir Maxwell John, Idolens Juan Carlo, Sir Gijo de Guzman, Sir Luke.
00:11:14Hi po.
00:11:15And from Sir Mark Leo Lason, Sir Gijo, my idol.
00:11:20Ami yung idol?
00:11:22Salamat, salamat sa mga, sa mga nanunoon nakikinig ngayon na mga sumusuporta sa amin ni Luke.
00:11:28Maraming salamat, maraming salamat.
00:11:30We are, we are here for you.
00:11:32I hope you, at the end of the session, you, you pick up a lot of things.
00:11:36Thank you for being here.
00:11:37Sir Luke.
00:11:38Yes, sir.
00:11:40Ah, before ka nag-teach, saan ka nag, ano, anong practice mo nun?
00:11:46Ah, sir, before, before ako mapunta sa academe,
00:11:49So, I was working as a cruise line photographer.
00:11:52Ano yan, ano yan?
00:11:53So, sa barco ko na.
00:11:54Cruise line photographer.
00:11:55Cruise?
00:11:55Sa barco, sir.
00:11:56Apo.
00:11:58Ah, sa barco.
00:11:59Barco.
00:11:59Yes, sir.
00:12:00Apo.
00:12:01So, I started there as a staff photographer.
00:12:04And then, eventually, ano, I got promoted hanggang sa maging photo manager.
00:12:09So, ayun.
00:12:10Ano yung mga ginagawa nyo dun sa barco?
00:12:13Ah, basically.
00:12:15Workflow nyo.
00:12:16Para, yung workflow namin, basically, pa, ano, we are taking pictures of the guests.
00:12:22So, yung mga pasahero yung sumasakay dun sa barco, we do take pictures of them dun sa loob ng barco.
00:12:29So, and then, afterwards, there's this, like, printed gallery na pwedeng i-purchase ng guests yung mga photographs nila.
00:12:39So, in layman's term, parang ano yan, eh.
00:12:43Picture namin sila.
00:12:45And then, they will be, ano, purchasing the photos from the photo gallery.
00:12:50So, yun ang naging work ko.
00:12:52Bali, extra income din yun.
00:12:54Yung pagbumili sila, iba pa yung bayad na.
00:12:57Yes, um, Bali, may parang ano yan.
00:12:59Sa barco kasi parang mayroong fixed na salary and then may commission ka.
00:13:03If ever, you would sell the photographs.
00:13:06So, may commission based, pero mayroon naman siyang based salary.
00:13:11Para sa mga nanonood, if ever gusto nila maging yung ganyan sa cruise ship,
00:13:18anong mga requirements nyan?
00:13:22Um, when it comes to skills kasi hindi naman siya masyadong heavy on the skills kasi meron pang prior training
00:13:30before you can actually join the,
00:13:32uh, uh, basta you need to know how to use the basic, uh, camera settings, of course.
00:13:38Yun naman ang kailangan dyan.
00:13:39And then, uh, hmm, ano pa ba yun?
00:13:44So, yung mga requirements for ship, yun ang medyo, ano eh, medyo, ma, medyo mahaba ang process.
00:13:50Pero yung mga solas?
00:13:52Yes, sir, yung mga ganon, mga trainings.
00:13:56Pero, little by little, pag, ano naman yun, just, just, just, uh, make sure na ma-accomplish mo yung requirements.
00:14:03And then, eventually, marami namang, ano dyan, maraming cruise line actually.
00:14:07So, maraming opportunities na makasampa.
00:14:10Oh, huwag lang doon sa gira.
00:14:12Ah, that's it, sir.
00:14:16Very exciting yun, sir.
00:14:18Makakuha ka naman.
00:14:20Yung ilang buwan yun?
00:14:22O year?
00:14:23Depende, sir, sa contract.
00:14:25Pero, hindi naman umabot ng one year.
00:14:27Maximum siguro nine months ang contract per contract.
00:14:30Tapos, renew na lang ulit siya after vacation.
00:14:34Nakakaipon talaga?
00:14:36Opo, sir.
00:14:37Kung when it comes to ipon naman,
00:14:39I would say, yeah, going on board.
00:14:41Tapos, makakaipon ka talaga.
00:14:43Pero, I wouldn't, I wouldn't say na, ano siya, stable job na forever mong gagawin.
00:14:48Ah, okay.
00:14:49Kasi, ano siya, first of all, contract walang yun.
00:14:52So, what will happen to you if, ano, I mean, God forbid na yung health mo ma-apekto.
00:14:58So, kailangan at least may fallback ka talaga.
00:15:02Balik tayo sa photography.
00:15:04Yung light things doon, parang studio set up.
00:15:07Studio, sir, yes.
00:15:08Studio, more on studio set up kasi we're inside.
00:15:12So, training din kayo doon.
00:15:14Siyempre, hindi lahat.
00:15:16Pagdating doon, marunong sa lights.
00:15:18Ah, yes, sir.
00:15:19Pero plus...
00:15:20Kahit ako, hindi, marunong sa lights.
00:15:23Pero plus na yung meron ka alam.
00:15:25Sa studio.
00:15:26Kote na lang yung training, yes.
00:15:28Ah, at least yun.
00:15:31Sir Gijo, balik tayo kay Sir Gijo.
00:15:33Yung sa ngayon, full-time ka as a photographer?
00:15:44It's not full-time.
00:15:46We have a family business that I also help in taking care of.
00:15:53But, ah, I would say photography has become a, you know, maybe my, my number one, I would, I would
00:16:03say a side hustle siguro or, or rocket siguro, ganyan.
00:16:08Hi, Sir Ace.
00:16:12Ang ano, si Sir Ace ang malakas sa kalam sa kanon.
00:16:18Hi, Sir Ace.
00:16:19Hi, guys.
00:16:20Ang daming bumabate.
00:16:21Ang daming bumabate sa live natin.
00:16:23Hi, everyone.
00:16:24Good evening.
00:16:25Thanks for being here.
00:16:26Salamat, salamat.
00:16:27Ayun.
00:16:28Ah, ano yung Sir Gijo?
00:16:33Ah, so, ngayon, basically, yung sabi mo kanina, more on street photography ka.
00:16:41Ngayon.
00:16:42Yeah.
00:16:42Oh, street travel.
00:16:44Kasi, ano eh, I am doing a lot of tours now.
00:16:47I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I took a step back with covering events and I'm focusing on my photo video tours.
00:16:55Okay.
00:16:55Here, locally and abroad.
00:16:57So, that involves a lot of, of course, mainly travel.
00:17:01And, alam mo naman, ang travel photography, ah, halo-halo na dyan, eh.
00:17:06Ah, may konting landscape ka dyan, mostly street, culture, religion, ah, human interest, ah, kung anong, kung anong maganda, di
00:17:16ba?
00:17:16Kukuha na natin.
00:17:18Si Sir Gijo is, ah, Canon Ambassador, Crusader of Light, di ba, Sir?
00:17:24Yes.
00:17:25Oh, yes.
00:17:26Kailan ka nag-start nun, Sir?
00:17:28Um, I started with Canon in 2011.
00:17:32It's been 15 years.
00:17:35Ah, matagal na din?
00:17:36Yeah.
00:17:37Matagal na.
00:17:38I, I started off, actually, simple trabaho lang, to, to test gear.
00:17:45And, ah, to give them feedback.
00:17:49Ah, actually, ang story ko sa Canon, ano eh, ah, for some reason, ah, the marketing team back then, wala
00:17:58na sila ngayon, eh.
00:17:58Shout out to my, to my friends, former Canon marketing teams na wala na sila sa Canon.
00:18:05But, for some reason, they noticed some of my photos and reached out to me, asking if I wanted to
00:18:12try out Canon gear.
00:18:15Um, test it, give them feedback, basically gear review, and then, just share a few photos with them that they
00:18:25can use.
00:18:26In return, yun nga, pahiramin nila ako ng mga gamit.
00:18:29So, it started like that.
00:18:32So, gear tester, gear reviewer, um, content.
00:18:37Well, hindi pa uso yung salitang content creator nun, pero nagsishare, 15 years ago, nagsishare na ako ng mga photos,
00:18:44ah, for Canon's content.
00:18:46And then, from that arrangement, ah, lumawak, ah, they asked me if I can teach, you know, ah, give, ah,
00:18:58short talks.
00:18:59It just so happened na, na, even before photography, nagtuturo na talaga ako, ah, I was a scuba diving instructor
00:19:07before I became a photographer.
00:19:11So, sabi ko, sige, ah, kaya ko yan.
00:19:15Sabi ko, I, I can teach.
00:19:16So, ayun na, naging, naging, ah, speaker na rin ako for Canon.
00:19:23And, you know, they, they organized some events, some, some talks, and, ah, you know, I was there as the
00:19:32speaker.
00:19:33Yanon.
00:19:34So, na-mention niyo po na nag, ah, you are instructor for scuba diving.
00:19:44Na, na, na, na, train nyo din you underwater?
00:19:47I, I was into it casually, but, ah, this was still during film days.
00:19:52I wasn't into it, oh, I wasn't into it the same way I'm into, I got into digital photography.
00:20:00So, so, yeah, I, I had a camera, take photos, pero, kung maganda, okay, pag hindi, okay lang, ganyan, ah,
00:20:09and, hindi, hindi ko din siya masyadong ginagawa,
00:20:13because, as an instructor, your focus is in your students, eh.
00:20:18So, nakakapag-shoot lang ako noon pagka walang studyante.
00:20:22So, ayun, so, a little, a little, I, I did a little of it.
00:20:26Curious lang ako, sir, sabi nyo po, underwater using film, mahirap?
00:20:33Kasi, oh, kasama na yung lights noon, yun?
00:20:38Yes, mahirap siya, ah, kasi nga, film, eh, no, ah, limited ka.
00:20:43Yung, I assume, limited?
00:20:46Oh, yun na yun, although may dala ka namang ilaw, may dala ka namang ilaw, tapos, I, I was mostly
00:20:52doing macro photography.
00:20:54Ah.
00:21:06And then, your film speed, ah, ah, usually, 400 asa, ganyan.
00:21:12So, ayun, ganun.
00:21:16Isa, balik tayo sa street photography, ano yung miss, ah, mga ginagamit mong gears?
00:21:22O yung dapat mong gamitin na gusto mo sa street photography?
00:21:29Ah, I, I, personally, I prefer focal, ah, okay, um, sa, sa camera, um, full frame, you know, of course.
00:21:42But, ah, I would also say that I like small, compact point-in shoots, no.
00:21:50Ah, in my recent trip, trip in India, I got to use the Canon PowerShot V1.
00:21:56Ah, the V1.
00:21:57Ah, it's, ah, oh, it's a compact, um, hindi siya interchangeable lens, kumbaga point-and-shoot ang tawag ng karamihan
00:22:06dyan.
00:22:06And I enjoyed it so much.
00:22:08Ah, ah, sa lente naman, focal length, for street photography, I like anywhere between 24 to 50, yan.
00:22:18Dyan ako naglalako.
00:22:20And most of my shots are in the 28 to 35 mm range.
00:22:40Oo, oo, yung masyadong wide kasi, ay, I don't like too much distortion, lalo na sa tao.
00:22:48Ah, yung, yung sobrang telephoto naman, I find the scene too flat, na nafa-flatten niya eh, because of the
00:22:58compression.
00:22:59Yung 28, ah, 35 range, yan, even 24, yan, may, may perspective, the distortion is, ah, acceptable.
00:23:10And, it forces you to, to get close to the subject, kasi maigsi yung lente mo.
00:23:16So, aside from taking photos, you are immersing yourself in the scene.
00:23:22Nandun ka.
00:23:23So, nai-experience mo yung sinushoot mo.
00:23:26Hindi, hindi ka lang basta photographer capturing scenes.
00:23:30Nai-experience mo din yung nangyayari.
00:23:32Which, which I like.
00:23:33Which, which, which is my preference when I do photography.
00:23:37Gusto ko yung, bukod sa nakakakuha ko, ah, I'm part of what I'm shooting, whatever it is.
00:24:02Um, before, before, before, then, now, it's your trademark.
00:24:06Before.
00:24:08Yes, lahat siguro tayo, ah, dumaan dyan kay, kay Eberson, ano.
00:24:15Ah, lahat tayo, umidulo dyan, no.
00:24:19But, as you grow kasi, ah, madami ka nakikilala.
00:24:24I, I'll be completely honest, ah, ang mga sinusundan ko mga local photographers.
00:24:34Local?
00:24:35Oh, marami.
00:24:36Ah, too many to mention.
00:24:38Pero, I, I have a personal bias sa mga local photographers.
00:24:43Siyempre, kapwa Pilipino mo yan, eh.
00:24:45Ah, you're, you share the same, you're in the same community, nakikita-kita kayo.
00:24:51Oh, and, sila yung mga, mga tinitinang ko.
00:24:55Sa Facebook lang, you know, when they post, makikita mo.
00:24:59Sino pong isa?
00:25:01Isa yan, si Luke, kasama yan.
00:25:03Kasama yan si, si Luke.
00:25:05Ah, ah, Edwin Tuyay.
00:25:09Ah, Sir Edwin.
00:25:10Ah, o, ah, tinitingala ko yan.
00:25:15Ah, you have Romel Bundal yan, tinitingala ko yan.
00:25:19Ah, um, Raymond Tanweco.
00:25:22Marami, marami.
00:25:23Sorry kung nakalimutan ko, pero.
00:25:25Mga hardcore street.
00:25:26O, pero.
00:25:27Oh, iba-ibang style.
00:25:29Iba-ibang, kasi kanya-kanyang style yung mga yan.
00:25:31So, as a student of photography, ah, lahat, sinusubuhan kong i-absorb.
00:25:37Kahit na hindi ko style yung ginagawa nila, ah, pinag-aaralan ko.
00:25:43Um, kasi, you know, it's, it's, it shows my, it's just my respect for, for people doing the same craft
00:25:52as, as I'm doing.
00:25:54Yan.
00:25:55So, saka, no, wala akong bias.
00:25:57Pag may nakita akong magandang litato, kilala ko man yun hindi, basta maganda.
00:26:02You know, I appreciate it.
00:26:05We never stop learning, bud.
00:26:08Oo, yeah, wala. Photography, walang katapusan yan.
00:26:11Um, you, you'll never learn everything.
00:26:14Kung madami ka man natutunan, sa tagal mo din, marami ka na kinakalimutan.
00:26:20So, you have to go through the cycle again.
00:26:23Uulitin mo yun.
00:26:25Sir Luke.
00:26:27Yes, sir.
00:26:27Ah, nags, ah, nags, regular kayo sumasali sa mga photocontest?
00:26:35Ah, yes, sir. Yan na yung parang naging hobby natin.
00:26:39Photography pa din ang hobby.
00:26:41So, first start, ah, first, ano yung first ano mo?
00:26:45Like, first na salihan, na contest na, anong tawag doon, nanalo ka?
00:26:53Ah, yung pinaka, ano talaga, like, naging, ano sa akin, was the, ano, Canon Photo Marathon noong 2018.
00:27:04So, that was actually my first.
00:27:05First yun?
00:27:07Yun yung third ko, third.
00:27:09Ah, okay.
00:27:09Third time ko sumali nun.
00:27:11So, ah, parang nag-start ako 2013, mag-join.
00:27:16And then eventually, ah, sumasama na ako with my dad nun sa, ano, sa Canon Photo Marathon.
00:27:22And then, yung, noong 2018, ah, that was the time na, na naging, ano ako, ah, grand winner noong Canon
00:27:31Photo Marathon.
00:27:322018?
00:27:33Yes, sir.
00:27:34Ah, 2018.
00:27:36Okay, pwede nyo po may explain, ano yung Canon Photo Marathon?
00:27:41Ah, yun, so Canon Photo Marathon, yun yung usually inaantay ng mga photographers all over the Philippines.
00:27:48So, national, on national level yan, inaabangan noon.
00:27:52So, since nung, ano pa ako, college, talagang, ah, when I learned about Canon Photo Marathon,
00:27:58nagugulat ako sa dami ng photographers na nagjo-join.
00:28:02So, misan, yung mga iba galing province pa, dumma, like, nagpupunta pa ng Manila just to be able to join
00:28:09nung, dun sa contest na yun.
00:28:10So, when I, ah, eventually got the chance na maka-join, ah, I was really surprised kasi, ah, yung community
00:28:18niya is really, ah, ano, ah, lalo na kung beginner ka.
00:28:21Ang dami mong mami-meet ng mga photographers dun, ah, like, like, Canon usually, ah, gives free, ah, what's this?
00:28:30Workshops?
00:28:31Like, yun, si Sir Jijodong ko first nakita yan, ah, nagtotalk, and then eventually, as I listened to all the,
00:28:39ah, speakers, lalo na yung mga ambasadors ni Canon.
00:28:42So, eventually got to love and learn more about photography.
00:28:47And, yun, ah, eventually nung 2018, so, ah, I was really happy that day.
00:28:54Ako kata yung pinakamasayang photographer na ata, ano, noong araw na yun.
00:28:58So, yeah, I got the win nung time na yun, and I was really happy with the shot that I
00:29:04actually got from that, ano, ah, contest.
00:29:08Speaking of Canon Ambassadors, two of my, ah, mentors, madami akong natutunan dun.
00:29:16One is the former, ah, ah, former Canon Ambassador, Sir Albert Garcia, sa, ah, is, he's my chief photographer when
00:29:26I was still in Manila Bulitin.
00:29:29And here in Cebu, Canon Ambassador, he's, ah, rest in peace to Sir, ah, tatay, Tony Despojo.
00:29:37He, he's also, ah, Canon Ambassador here in Cebu.
00:29:43Ayun.
00:29:44Ah, dami ko natutunan dun, dalawang yun.
00:29:48Nakasama ko si, nakasama ko si Tony, I think twice, I gave a talk in Cebu.
00:29:54Dalawa kami.
00:29:55Ayun.
00:29:56Ah, you know, very humble guy, lots of experience.
00:30:02Yeah, tatay.
00:30:02Okay.
00:30:03Yun yung, ano, tatay dito sa Cebu.
00:30:07Tatay ang tawag.
00:30:08You can imagine, oo.
00:30:10Ay, Sir Cesar, san sa of Macy's, kamusta, sir?
00:30:15Sa guwa, nag-watch.
00:30:16Ah, flash natin yung mga photos nila, sir.
00:30:21Yan, kay Sir Gijo.
00:30:24Sir Gijo, say ito.
00:30:26Yes.
00:30:26Oo.
00:30:27Um, teka, hindi pa lumalabas sa akin, eh.
00:30:31Ah, okay.
00:30:32Ah, yeah.
00:30:35Yeah.
00:30:36So, more on travel.
00:30:40Yeah, this is, uh, this was just taken two weeks ago, no, in India.
00:30:45I just came back from India for a photo tour.
00:30:49Um, the white structure you see on the foreground is a burial site of one of the former maharajas of
00:30:56Jodpur, you know, the city.
00:30:59Uh, si, uh, Jaswant.
00:31:02His name is Jaswant.
00:31:04And the structure at the back, you know, further at the back is the Merangar Fort.
00:31:10It's, uh, uh, 400 years old.
00:31:14It was built to protect, um, you know, the city, which was smaller before, from invaders.
00:31:20Yeah.
00:31:21This was in Jodpur.
00:31:24Saan, sir?
00:31:26Jodpur.
00:31:27Jodpur.
00:31:28It's in the state of Rajasthan in, uh, northern India.
00:31:33Oh, about, uh, this is 10 hours drive outside Delhi.
00:31:38Oh, malayo na ito.
00:31:41Sir, when you're, you're doing travel, mas, anong mas preferred mo?
00:31:46Yung compact or yung interchangeable lens?
00:31:51Uh, I use both.
00:31:53Both?
00:31:53Kasi, yeah, kailangan mo naman ng backup.
00:31:56Okay.
00:31:56Di naman, eh.
00:31:57So, so, I bring both.
00:32:00Like in India, I had, uh, the R6 Mark III, uh, interchangeable full-frame mirrorless.
00:32:06And then I had, uh, yun nga yung V1 as, uh, you know, uh, built-in lens na compact.
00:32:14May, may advantages kasi pareho yan, eh.
00:32:16For example, if you want, you know, the highest image quality or you, you see that you will print this
00:32:24big, um, you use the full-frame mirrorless, no?
00:32:28If you want more speed, uh, autofocus accuracy.
00:32:32Now, but sometimes, you need to be discreet and you need to be unnoticed, di ba?
00:32:51So, I, I, I benefit from both.
00:32:53I like shooting both.
00:32:55Ano po yung focal length nung V1?
00:32:58The V1 is, uh, equivalent to 16 to 50 mm.
00:33:03So, sakto for me.
00:33:04Oo.
00:33:0516 to 50.
00:33:06It's, it's all you need for street photography.
00:33:09Ayun.
00:33:10Bali, may, may, may, may, may, ano dito na question.
00:33:15From, uh, James Morales.
00:33:18Pero, may, comment lang dito from Sir Albert Abalie.
00:33:23Tatay, Tony, not only for the photojournalists, but for those who are field reporters, both young and old.
00:33:30Oh, tinood, tinood, tinood.
00:33:31Thanks, Sir Albert.
00:33:33So, question for both from Sir James Morales Jr.
00:33:37In the many photo contests that you guys joined, how do you choose the photo that you edit and submit?
00:33:44Like, love both of your works as photographers.
00:33:49Sir, look muna.
00:33:52Yan.
00:33:53Uh, sa akin, sir, uh, whenever I join photo contest.
00:33:57Lalo na, ako, I'll be specific kasi mas, nagjo-join ako sa mga on-the-spot photo contest.
00:34:03So, ito yung mga contest na, you have no, like, you don't, uh, have the, the, what's this?
00:34:11Uh, hindi ka pwede mag-edit ng photographs.
00:34:14Like, straight out from the camera, you will submit the photographs from your SD card.
00:34:18So, ako, uh, with, with on-the-spot photo contest, I tend to shoot minimal.
00:34:24Kasi, pag sobrang dami nang kuha mo within that, like, uh, time frame, ang hirap mamili.
00:34:43And then, with on-the-spot photo contest kasi, it's, uh, we have to consider na it's, uh, time limited
00:34:49as well.
00:34:51Kaya, as much as possible, from the time na binigay na yung theme, on the, dun sa, sa venue, or
00:34:57kung saan man yung contest or event,
00:35:00you have to be really fast on, like, uh, conceptualizing what you want.
00:35:05Uh, especially, kailangan mag-a-adhere ka, dun sa theme.
00:35:09Kasi, of course, uh, yan ang pinaka-importating part.
00:35:13And then, of course, uh, to follow na yung, yung creativity mo, or yung, on how you will shoot it.
00:35:19So, ako, ayun, for on-the-spot photo contest, uh, anong, uh, minimal ako mag-shoot when it comes to,
00:35:26uh, my photographs.
00:35:29Ayan.
00:35:30Si SirSGDU siguro baka makapagbigay dun sa, ano, like, mga online submission na contest na,
00:35:35Um, to, to answer the question directly, paano pumipili, no?
00:35:40I think the most important, uh, to begin with is adherence to theme.
00:35:48O, yun, yun muna.
00:35:50Um, siguraduhin nyo muna, you know, I'm speaking to everyone who is into contest photography.
00:35:57Uh, sa simula pa lang, siguraduhin nyo muna na pasok sa theme yung mga entries nyo.
00:36:04So, the theme is there to put parameters.
00:36:09Ngayon, karamihan ng judge, you know, hindi ka na papasakagad kung wala na sa theme.
00:36:15Kahit maganda yung kuha mo, wala naman sa theme, mahirap manalo.
00:36:19So, importante adherence to theme.
00:36:21Number two, um, do not overthink the theme.
00:36:27Okay, karamihan ng theme dyan, with the exception of you, madali lang naman.
00:36:32So, basta pumasok, malinaw na malinaw yung kuha mo, pasok naman sa theme, okay na yun.
00:36:39The next step is, never forget, it's still a photography contest.
00:36:44Pagandahan pa rin ng litrato yan.
00:36:47Hindi, hindi pagalingan mag-interpret sa theme lagi, diba?
00:36:52Basta pumasok kayo sa theme, lahat yan, as a judge, no, I'm speaking as a judge.
00:36:58Lahat naman yan, pumasok sa theme, okay, check na tayo dun.
00:37:01Ngayon, hahanapin na natin yung magagandang litrato.
00:37:05So, yun, don't forget that it's still a photography contest.
00:37:10Pagandahan pa rin ng litrato.
00:37:13Then, third way to help you choose is, only enter photos that really stand out, that will grab the viewer.
00:37:22Okay, why do I say that?
00:37:25Contests can attract dozens, even hundreds of entries.
00:37:29Ngayon, pag ang entry mo, pinag-iisipan pa ng judge,
00:37:33yung entry mo, eh, you know, medyo shaky, you know, hindi solid.
00:37:42A lot of judges will not give it a chance anymore.
00:37:45Kailangan, on the get-go, it grabs the viewer.
00:37:49Yung, oop, ang ganda nito, ganyan.
00:37:52Set aside na kagad yun for the next round.
00:37:55So, marami, marami akong masyashare, but I think yung tatlo na yun,
00:37:59adherence to theme, number one.
00:38:01Number two, never forget, it's a photography contest.
00:38:05Pagandahan ng litrato.
00:38:06Pangatlo, yung pinakamagaganda.
00:38:10You know, huwag yung sentimental favorite, huwag yung pinaghirapan mo, yun ang i-enter mo.
00:38:19Alam nyo, minsan kahit na pinaghirapan mo yung litrato, in the end, it doesn't necessarily mean maganda, eh.
00:38:26Minsan ang maganda, yung right place at the right time, eh.
00:38:30Yung na-chempohan mo, sinuerti ka, click, maganda.
00:38:34Yun ang mananalo.
00:38:36So, disregard sentiments, disregard degree of difficulty if needed.
00:38:43Yung pinakamagandang litrato that grabs the viewer.
00:38:47Yun ang ipasok mo.
00:38:50Ang ganda na na.
00:38:52Okay ba yun, Sir James?
00:38:55Kompletong-kompleto na yun.
00:38:57May isa pang question.
00:38:59From Sir Maxwell John.
00:39:02Question for both of you.
00:39:04So, when the pressure of professional deliverables starts to dictate your creative style,
00:39:11how do you protect the amateur's heart that made you fall in love with photography in the first place?
00:39:17How do you keep your personal passion from being swallowed by your career requirements?
00:39:24Kanda nung tanong.
00:39:26Miss Universe.
00:39:29Oo.
00:39:30Kanda nung tanong.
00:39:31Una ka muna, Luke.
00:39:35Thank you, Sir Maxwell John.
00:39:37I don't know if I understand it correctly.
00:39:39So, kasi mayroong mga, yes, sa photography profession kasi.
00:39:45Mayroong mga, let's say, may mga projects tayo na, like, may requirements na minsan,
00:39:54sa tingin natin, it's not good for our eyes.
00:39:57Like, it's our, ano yun?
00:39:59It's our own opinion or creativity.
00:40:01So, whenever I have those kind of situations, of course, siyempre, I would follow the client's requirements or wants,
00:40:09kung ano yung gusto niya, and then I would do my own creative way.
00:40:13And then from there, I would show it to the client na, this is what you have asked,
00:40:21so this is the output, and then eventually, papakita ko rin yung, like, on my own creative way,
00:40:27ito yung version ko naman.
00:40:29And then eventually, when the client sees na, ah, oo nga, parang mas maganda yung version mo.
00:40:36So, yun yung time na, yung fulfillment na, ah, ito yung, ito yung, ano ko eh, kapag, ito talaga yung
00:40:44gusto ko.
00:40:45Pero ayoko lang i-sabihin sa'yo, kasi nga, ah, of course, ah, for, for, for us photographers,
00:40:52lari na sa, sa, ano, freelancing, of course, meron tayong mga requirements or clients na kailangan natin sundin.
00:40:59So, minsan, minsan talaga, ah, ma, magkakaroon na, ano, ah, what's this?
00:41:07Magkakaroon na, kailangan ma, ano mo eh, mabalance mo both yung creativity mo and then yung, ah, career-wise,
00:41:15kailangan ma, ano mo siya.
00:41:16Merong, ah, ang tawag dito, may compromise na mangyayari talaga eventually.
00:41:21Pero, madami magagawa naman ang paranya.
00:41:24I mean, as photographers, are you, ah, creative in a way na kahit sa mga ganong klase ng situations,
00:41:31we can definitely, ah, no, ah, do some creative stuff.
00:41:37Thank you, Sir Luke.
00:41:39Sir Gijo.
00:41:41Okay.
00:41:42Um, in a nutshell, ang sagot ko dyan, dapat paghiwalayin mo yung photography mo as a profession
00:41:50at yung photography mo as a hobby or as a personal practice, oh, paghiwalayin mo yun.
00:41:58How do you do that?
00:41:59If you are already blessed with a professional photography career,
00:42:06gaya nga nung tanong, di ba, paano pinaghiwalay ang, ah, ah, professional practice
00:42:12and, um, personal practice of photography, no?
00:42:16Pagka you're shooting for a client, okay, shoot for that purpose.
00:42:22You have to satisfy your client or the representative, no?
00:42:25The art director, the creative director, hindi ikaw ang masusunod.
00:42:30Sinushoot mo lang yung gusto nila.
00:42:32Yeah.
00:42:33Di ba? Sila dapat ang may final say.
00:42:35Now, if it's not to your liking, if it's not to your taste, you know, ah, you know, it doesn't
00:42:44matter
00:42:44because you are not shooting for yourself at that moment.
00:42:47You're shooting for a client.
00:42:49You are being hired for your skill, for your abilities.
00:42:54So gawin mo yun.
00:42:55Now, on your own free time, alagaan mo din yung personal practice of photography mo.
00:43:02You know, you go out and shoot for yourself.
00:43:04That's the time you execute your style, your technique, gawin mo yung mga photos na gusto mo
00:43:11na hindi mo magawa sa, sa kliyente mo kasi taba ako yun.
00:43:18So, so paghiwalayin mo, paghiwalayin mo.
00:43:20I will also answer that question using a scenario.
00:43:24For example, yung sa India, nagpunta ko dun.
00:43:27My mindset was to shoot photos for content, for Canon, you know, for future talks.
00:43:37At nag-shoot din ako for myself.
00:43:40Yung wala akong sinasatisfy kung hindi sarili ko lang.
00:43:43Magkaiba yun eh.
00:43:45Iba yung outputs nun eh.
00:43:48Minsan, mas malalim yung mga stories behind my personal photos.
00:43:56Minsan, sa sobrang lalim, ako lang na nakakaintindi.
00:43:59Ako lang na nakaka-appreciate.
00:44:01Kasi ako lang yun nandun.
00:44:02Whereas yung mga photos mo for content, for promoting a particular camera or lens,
00:44:10it has to appeal to more people, you know.
00:44:15That's more about aesthetics, you know.
00:44:18Yeah, may konting story, pero dapat easily appreciated, hindi komplikado.
00:44:24So, yan. Iba.
00:44:26Iba yung ano.
00:44:27Iba yung execution.
00:44:30When I was shooting a lot of sports years ago,
00:44:35mahilig ako sa motion blur eh.
00:44:37I like panning, you know, intentional motion blur.
00:44:41Pero, nalaman ko early on na hindi lahat ng client nakaka-appreciate nun.
00:44:48So, when I'm shooting for a client,
00:45:08umiinom ng Gatorade, Gatorade is a sponsor of the event,
00:45:11kailangan kuhanan mo yun.
00:45:14Whether you like it or not.
00:45:17Madaling shot yun.
00:45:19Hindi naman yun sports talaga,
00:45:21pero hinahanap ng client yun.
00:45:23Yung mga nakasabit na banner sa venue,
00:45:26you know, for advertising,
00:45:28kailangan kuhanan mo.
00:45:30Otherwise, kung if you're just shooting for yourself,
00:45:33ba't mo kukuhanan yun?
00:45:34So, there has to be a line.
00:45:36You know, yung hiwalay mo yung professional practice mo
00:45:39dun sa personal practice mo.
00:45:41And the reason why I appreciate this question is,
00:45:44I think it comes from a person who wants to do both,
00:45:48pero ayaw niyang pabayaan yung background niya.
00:45:52Or ayaw niyang kalimutan kung bakit siya nag-photography in the first place.
00:45:57And I can relate to that fully, you know.
00:45:59Ngayon, I pick up my camera and shoot.
00:46:02Minsan, wala namang kakuwenta-kuwenta yung kinukuha ng ko.
00:46:05Alam ko namang hindi maganda.
00:46:07But, just the practice of,
00:46:10just the feel of the camera in my hand,
00:46:13the sound of the shutter,
00:46:16you know, putting it up to your eye,
00:46:18up to your eye and, you know,
00:46:20looking into the frame,
00:46:21the whole practice of it is enjoyable for me already.
00:46:24So, minsan, yung output, ano na lang eh.
00:46:27Parang bonus na lang kung maganda eh.
00:46:29But going out there,
00:46:30picking up your camera, shooting,
00:46:33yun yung enjoyment.
00:46:35Yun yung dapat hindi mawala.
00:46:37Thank you, sir.
00:46:39Thank you daw po.
00:46:40Sobrang thank you galing kay Maxwell dyan.
00:46:43Thank you, sir Luke, sir Jijo.
00:46:45May question ulit from Franz Lopez.
00:46:50Sir, your tip for those joining Canon Photo Marathon,
00:46:53how do you drown out,
00:46:55drown out the noise,
00:46:58drown out beto,
00:47:00the noise and focus on a subject worth capturing.
00:47:03And when can we say that you're happy with that shot as an entry?
00:47:17Kasi na mauna.
00:47:19Okay.
00:47:20Sige, ako na lang mauna naman.
00:47:22Sige, sige.
00:47:22Sige, sir.
00:47:24Kayo na ko pa pinahuna si Luke eh.
00:47:26Okay.
00:47:29You know,
00:47:30before I answer that,
00:47:32I'll answer it in a
00:47:35the best way I can.
00:47:36Pero kailangan umatras tayo.
00:47:39To become good in contest photography
00:47:43will take time.
00:47:45You know,
00:47:46don't expect to win a lot
00:47:50as a beginner.
00:47:52Why?
00:47:53Because you still have to develop your eye
00:47:56and taste for beauty.
00:47:58You know,
00:48:00as a beginner,
00:48:03you know,
00:48:04you're excited
00:48:05bago lahat ng mga litato mo
00:48:07kasi ngayon ka lang nagsimula.
00:48:08And,
00:48:09you know,
00:48:11you're enjoying the craft.
00:48:12It's easy to get lost in
00:48:15or to
00:48:16overrate
00:48:17your photo.
00:48:18Yung,
00:48:19yung,
00:48:20akala mo sobrang ganda na.
00:48:22And then,
00:48:23pag in-enter mo sa contest,
00:48:25talo,
00:48:26halimbawa,
00:48:27nakasama ng loob.
00:48:28Ganon.
00:48:29So,
00:48:29I'm setting this
00:48:32parameter na
00:48:34bago ka umasa
00:48:35na manalo
00:48:36or maganda talaga
00:48:37yung mga kuha mo,
00:48:39dapat
00:48:39i-develop mo yung mata mo
00:48:41at yung taste mo
00:48:42for beauty.
00:48:44Paano ginagawa yun?
00:48:45Hindi napipilit
00:48:46sa hinug yan.
00:48:48Hindi yan napipilit.
00:48:49Hindi yan nagra-rush.
00:48:50You have to shoot a lot.
00:48:52If you can shoot
00:48:53every day,
00:48:54at least one,
00:48:55two hours a day,
00:48:56do it.
00:48:56That's the only way
00:48:57to develop your eye
00:48:58and your taste.
00:49:01Pag na-develop mo na yung eye
00:49:02and taste mo,
00:49:03ayan,
00:49:04yung pagpili mo
00:49:05ng mga entries mo
00:49:06sa contest,
00:49:08gaganda na rin.
00:49:10You know,
00:49:10yung,
00:49:11it's not just about
00:49:12what you feel
00:49:13or how hard
00:49:14it was to take the shot.
00:49:15Alam mo na,
00:49:16mas magaling ka na
00:49:17tumingin kung anong
00:49:19magandang litrato
00:49:20o hindi.
00:49:20Pati yung mga potential
00:49:21na makakalaban mo.
00:49:22Now,
00:49:23in the
00:49:24Canon Photo Marathon,
00:49:27parameters will be set.
00:49:28I can't say
00:49:29so much,
00:49:30no?
00:49:30Kasi,
00:49:31surprise na lang yun.
00:49:32And besides,
00:49:34hindi ko pa rin naman
00:49:35alam ang mga
00:49:36parameters
00:49:37ng contest.
00:49:38But,
00:49:38it's going to be
00:49:39an on-the-spot
00:49:40photo competition.
00:49:42Anong ibig sabihin
00:49:42ng on-the-spot
00:49:43sa mga
00:49:44beginners natin dito?
00:49:47You will all gather
00:49:48in the same place
00:49:49at the same time.
00:49:50You will be given
00:49:51a theme
00:49:52and you have to
00:49:54shoot it
00:49:54in a
00:49:55specific amount
00:49:56of time.
00:49:57From this period
00:49:58to this period lang.
00:50:00Within the same
00:50:01location.
00:50:02May boundaries.
00:50:04Okay?
00:50:04Yun ang on-the-spot.
00:50:05Another characteristic
00:50:06of on-the-spot is
00:50:07hindi na kayo
00:50:09papayagan mag-edit.
00:50:11Okay?
00:50:11You have to shoot
00:50:12RAW
00:50:13plus JPEG.
00:50:16Isasubmit nyo
00:50:16yung JPEG.
00:50:17Yung RAW,
00:50:18it will just
00:50:20serve as validation
00:50:20later on.
00:50:21Kung pumasok ka sa
00:50:22finals or one of
00:50:23the selected
00:50:24finalists.
00:50:25But you shoot
00:50:26in JPEG
00:50:27and isasubmit mo
00:50:28yung JPEG.
00:50:29Wala nang editing yan.
00:50:30So,
00:50:32paano mo lamang
00:50:33maganda yung
00:50:33letato mo?
00:50:34You begin with
00:50:35the fundamentals.
00:50:36Dapat tama
00:50:37ang exposure.
00:50:38Hindi sobrang liwanan.
00:50:40Hindi sobrang dilim.
00:50:41Yung white balance.
00:50:43Madami nagkakamali
00:50:44dyan.
00:50:45Mali ang kulay.
00:50:46Not because
00:50:47of the subject
00:50:49but because
00:50:50the white balance
00:50:51was wrong.
00:50:52So,
00:50:52kailangan iset nyo yan.
00:50:53Ngayon,
00:50:54yung sharpness.
00:50:56Okay?
00:50:56Kailangan
00:50:57tamaan ang focus.
00:50:58Yung dapat tamaan.
00:51:00Pag moving subject yan,
00:51:02unless you are
00:51:02intentionally blurring
00:51:04the subject,
00:51:04dapat sharp yan.
00:51:06So,
00:51:06yan yung mga fundamentals.
00:51:08Technical fundamentals yan.
00:51:09Then,
00:51:10let's go to the
00:51:10creative fundamentals.
00:51:12Make sure you have
00:51:13good composition.
00:51:15Framing.
00:51:16But before this happens,
00:51:18sorry,
00:51:18yung scene selection mo.
00:51:19Kailangan yung subject
00:51:21na pinili mo,
00:51:21maganda talaga.
00:51:22Bago mo mo lang
00:51:23kuhanan.
00:51:24Marami eh.
00:51:25Maraming criteria yan.
00:51:27Scene selection,
00:51:28subject selection.
00:51:29And in the end,
00:51:30dapat yung litrato mo
00:51:31should stand out.
00:51:32You have to remember,
00:51:34big contests
00:51:36attract dozens,
00:51:37even hundreds of
00:51:40joiners,
00:51:41as I said earlier.
00:51:43So,
00:51:43dapat yung litrato mo talaga
00:51:44maganda.
00:51:46It will stand out.
00:51:47Mapapansin talaga
00:51:48ng judge.
00:51:49Kakaiba.
00:51:50You know.
00:51:51There's no
00:51:51single
00:51:54quality
00:51:54or criteria
00:51:55that you have
00:51:56to
00:51:58follow.
00:51:59A winning photo
00:52:00is a cocktail,
00:52:01if you ask me.
00:52:03It's a cocktail of
00:52:04freshness,
00:52:05uniqueness,
00:52:07technical soundness,
00:52:11you know,
00:52:12special aesthetics,
00:52:14and,
00:52:15you know,
00:52:16even the moment
00:52:17can play a role.
00:52:18You know,
00:52:18pag sinuerte ka sa moment,
00:52:19maganda nga yung pagkakakuha mo,
00:52:21maganda pa yung moment,
00:52:22it will really stand out.
00:52:24So,
00:52:24there's no single
00:52:25factor
00:52:26that can
00:52:27identify
00:52:28a winning photo.
00:52:30It has to be a cocktail
00:52:31of the many
00:52:32qualities
00:52:33that we look for.
00:52:34Yun,
00:52:35yung mga sinabi ko.
00:52:42Ano,
00:52:42ano eh,
00:52:43basically,
00:52:43in general,
00:52:44sa lahat ng
00:52:44sa lahat ng
00:52:45photocontest,
00:52:46kasama yun eh.
00:52:48Yung lahat ng
00:52:49advice na sinabi nyo
00:52:50Sir Gidio,
00:52:51diba?
00:52:51Bali,
00:52:53sa lahat naman yun.
00:52:54Dapat yun eh.
00:52:55Yeah,
00:52:55lahat.
00:52:56Ganun talaga.
00:52:58Hindi pwedeng,
00:53:00hindi pwedeng,
00:53:02maganda yung moment,
00:53:03pero,
00:53:05malambot yung focus,
00:53:06or blurred,
00:53:07or tabingi.
00:53:08Kailangan,
00:53:09ibuhus mo lahat talaga,
00:53:10nang pwedeng iganda
00:53:11nung,
00:53:11nung literato.
00:53:13Ayan.
00:53:13And of course,
00:53:14experience.
00:53:15You,
00:53:16you have to keep
00:53:17joining contests,
00:53:19um,
00:53:19para gumaling ka dyan.
00:53:21You know,
00:53:22contest photography
00:53:22is a different animal.
00:53:24Kasi,
00:53:26um,
00:53:27kailangan,
00:53:29you know,
00:53:29let's face it,
00:53:30you're,
00:53:30you're shooting for the judges.
00:53:33You know,
00:53:34uh,
00:53:34I know,
00:53:35I know you should be
00:53:36shooting for yourself.
00:53:37Pero pag sumali ka sa contest,
00:53:39your entries will be subject
00:53:42to the taste of the judges.
00:53:44Now,
00:53:45kailangan,
00:53:46so,
00:53:46basically,
00:53:47you shoot for them.
00:53:48Hindi mo man alam kung
00:53:49sinong exactly magja-judge nyan.
00:53:51You have to come out,
00:53:52come up with a photo
00:53:53that will appeal
00:53:54to as many people
00:53:55as possible.
00:53:56So,
00:53:57it's,
00:53:57it's a different animal talaga.
00:53:59Kailangan,
00:54:00i-buhos mo lahat ng,
00:54:02ng,
00:54:02mga magagandang qualities
00:54:04ng isang literato
00:54:05sa isang kuha.
00:54:07Tapos,
00:54:07yun ang i-enter mo.
00:54:09Yung may wow factor.
00:54:11Yes,
00:54:12wow.
00:54:13yung,
00:54:14yeah,
00:54:15uh,
00:54:16ito,
00:54:16uh,
00:54:17isang,
00:54:18you know,
00:54:18I,
00:54:20I've judged contests
00:54:21with over a thousand entries
00:54:24and
00:54:26we are only given
00:54:27the whole day
00:54:30to look at
00:54:31over a thousand entries.
00:54:33So,
00:54:35paano ka pipili
00:54:36pagka ganun?
00:54:37To,
00:54:38to be fair,
00:54:39bibigyan mo lang
00:54:40ng two or three seconds,
00:54:41di ba,
00:54:42per entry.
00:54:42Titignan mo lang
00:54:43ng dalawang segundo,
00:54:44tatlong segundo.
00:54:45Pag hindi mo siya na-appreciate
00:54:47dun sa two,
00:54:47three seconds,
00:54:48wala na yun.
00:54:50Hindi ka pwedeng magbabad,
00:54:52eh,
00:54:52kasi ilan yung titignan mo,
00:54:54di ba?
00:54:54Ilan yung titignan mo?
00:54:56So,
00:54:58kailangan,
00:54:58yun yung kailangan
00:54:59may wow kagad.
00:55:00Kailangan,
00:55:01whop,
00:55:02you know,
00:55:02hindi,
00:55:02hindi mo pa napapaliwanag,
00:55:04hindi mo pa alam
00:55:05kung bakit maganda.
00:55:07Basta alam mo maganda.
00:55:08Ganun.
00:55:09Ayan.
00:55:10Medyo,
00:55:11naubos yung time natin
00:55:13dahil ang dami nating,
00:55:15ano,
00:55:15magagandang questions.
00:55:16Hindi natin na-flash
00:55:18yung mga photos.
00:55:19Pero,
00:55:20ayun nga,
00:55:21isang malaking event
00:55:23ngayon next week,
00:55:24ah,
00:55:24next week,
00:55:25I mean,
00:55:25next month,
00:55:26sa April 18,
00:55:272026,
00:55:28yung Canon Photo Marathon,
00:55:30which is,
00:55:31will be held at
00:55:34BGC Taguig
00:55:35on April 18,
00:55:362026.
00:55:38So,
00:55:38if,
00:55:39yun,
00:55:40yun nga yun yung
00:55:41a thousand photos,
00:55:42no?
00:55:43Ang dami nun
00:55:43sa mga sumasali.
00:55:47Unedited yun
00:55:48na ilibibigay
00:55:49yung SD.
00:55:50Tama ba?
00:55:52Yes, sir.
00:55:53Tama yun?
00:55:53Yes.
00:55:54Yeah.
00:55:55So,
00:55:56so,
00:55:58like,
00:55:58like what Luke
00:55:58mentioned,
00:55:59the Canon Photo Marathon,
00:56:01before the pandemic
00:56:03happened,
00:56:03was the largest
00:56:04on-the-spot
00:56:06photo contest
00:56:07in the country.
00:56:08You know,
00:56:09the,
00:56:10the year
00:56:12that we got
00:56:12the most number
00:56:14of participants,
00:56:15it numbered
00:56:16to
00:56:17around 2,000.
00:56:18Ang dami.
00:56:202,000.
00:56:21It's the largest
00:56:21on-the-spot
00:56:22photo contest
00:56:23in the country.
00:56:24So,
00:56:24we're bringing it back
00:56:25for the first time
00:56:27since the pandemic.
00:56:28It will be on
00:56:29April 18 in BGC.
00:56:32On-the-spot,
00:56:33uliting ko,

00:58:11may two minutes pa tayo.
00:58:12Uh,
00:58:13Sir Luke,
00:58:14any advice
00:58:15to upcoming
00:58:17newbie photographers
00:58:18o gusto mag-venture pa
00:58:20to more?
00:58:22Uh,
00:58:23yun,
00:58:23same as with Sir Gijo,
00:58:24like,
00:58:25practice kayo.
00:58:26Like,
00:58:27go out everyday.
00:58:28Ako ganyan nang
00:58:29ginawa kong,
00:58:30ano nun,
00:58:31uh,
00:58:32activity ko for me.
00:58:33So,
00:58:33ang camera ko lang nun
00:58:35was the PowerShot G2.
00:58:36So,
00:58:364 megapixel na
00:58:38point-and-shoot camera
00:58:39ni Canon yun before.
00:58:40Yun ang unang
00:58:41binigay sa akin
00:58:42ng dad ko.
00:58:42So,
00:58:43I just go out everyday.
00:58:44Like,
00:58:45paglalabas ako,
00:58:46kung saan man,
00:58:47sa mall
00:58:47or kung may pupuntahan ako,
00:58:49I always bring my camera
00:58:50with me
00:58:51and then
00:58:51shoot lang ako
00:58:52ng shoot
00:58:53na nag-shoot
00:58:53ng shoot.
00:58:54And then,
00:58:55uh,
00:58:55dun sa
00:58:56nagmingi na advice
00:58:57kanina
00:58:58when it comes
00:58:58to Canon Photo Marathon
00:58:59tsaka sa mga contests,
00:59:01like,
00:59:01uh,
00:59:02do your research.
00:59:03Ako ang ginawa ko nun
00:59:04kasi first,
00:59:06uh,
00:59:06first try,
00:59:07second try,
00:59:07di ako nananalo.
00:59:09Okay?
00:59:09Pero,
00:59:09what I do is
00:59:10I review the winning photos.
00:59:12Like,
00:59:13ano kaya ang
00:59:13naging reason
00:59:14kung bakit siya nanalo?
00:59:16So,
00:59:16I take
00:59:17point,
00:59:18from that photograph,
00:59:19especially dun sa mga nananalo,
00:59:21na,
00:59:21maybe I could apply this one
00:59:23sa susunod
00:59:24or sa other contests
00:59:26na sasalihan ko.
00:59:27And then,
00:59:28yun,
00:59:28eventually,
00:59:29uh,
00:59:31I got the,
00:59:32ano,
00:59:33I mean,
00:59:33this,
00:59:34sabi nga ni si Rajijo,
00:59:36kailangan i-build mo yung
00:59:38knowledge mo,
00:59:38eh.
00:59:38So,
00:59:39mayroong nga saying
00:59:40na naniniwala ko na
00:59:42skills are built,
00:59:44okay,
00:59:44it's not born.
00:59:45So,
00:59:45hindi ka pinanganak na
00:59:47magaling ka na sa
00:59:47photography
00:59:48or sa kahit anong
00:59:51bagay.
00:59:51you have to
00:59:52build your own
00:59:54craft,
00:59:55okay,
00:59:55within you
00:59:56and,
00:59:56yeah,
00:59:58just,
00:59:58just,
00:59:58uh,
00:59:59never stop learning
01:00:00and do your research.
01:00:02and then,
01:00:02eventually,
01:00:03you will,
01:00:03uh,
01:00:04you will eventually get there.
01:00:06So,
01:00:06take it from me na
01:00:07dati,
01:00:08when I actually
01:00:09take a look at my shots
01:00:10before,
01:00:10nung sa start pa lang ako,
01:00:12mapapaisip ka talaga na,
01:00:13shot ko talaga to,
01:00:15yun,
01:00:15yun,
01:00:15ano,
01:00:16siya na,
01:00:17you would see your
01:00:17development,
01:00:18okay,
01:00:20pag,
01:00:20ano,
01:00:21pag shoot ka na
01:00:22ng shoot,
01:00:22pero,
01:00:23wag,
01:00:23wag ka na ng shoot
01:00:24ng shoot na
01:00:24you don't even,
01:00:26ano,
01:00:26kumbaga,
01:00:27kailangan siyempre,
01:00:28you have to,
01:00:28ano,
01:00:29make it sure na
01:00:30may development
01:00:32kang bagong
01:00:33ina-apply dun
01:00:34sa mga shoot mo.
01:00:35Kasi if you're just
01:00:36gonna be shooting
01:00:37everyday and then
01:00:38wala ka namang
01:00:39ina-apply na
01:00:40bagong learnings,
01:00:41it will just stay the same.
01:00:43Kahit ilang years ka pa
01:00:44mag-shoot,
01:00:44kundi mo naman
01:00:46binabago yung
01:00:46the way you actually
01:00:47do it,
01:00:48okay,
01:00:49so from the learnings
01:00:50you have done,
01:00:51so,
01:00:51yun,
01:00:52ano lang,
01:00:53it takes time.
01:00:54wag,
01:00:55tama ka sa
01:00:55I said,
01:00:56wag sasama yung loob
01:00:57pag hindi na
01:00:57nanalo sa contest
01:00:58kasi ang daming
01:00:59ganyan actually.
01:01:01So,
01:01:02ako,
01:01:03abing marami na ako
01:01:03na saliang
01:01:04photo contest,
01:01:05it's not Christmas
01:01:06everyday na
01:01:07you get the chance
01:01:08to win,
01:01:08pero as long as
01:01:09you're happy
01:01:10with the shot
01:01:10that you actually
01:01:11got sa entry mo,
01:01:13ano na yan,
01:01:13ako,
01:01:14I'm really
01:01:14okay with that
