00:05Welcome back to the PlayStation Livecast, live here from the PlayStation Exhibit Hall.
00:09I'm Meredith Molinari, here with Marcus Nilsson of Need for Speed Rivals.
00:13Now, right now, let's talk a little bit about Need for Speed Rivals.
00:17I was a big fan of Hot Pursuit, and I know this one also includes a cop car,
00:21but it's a little bit different this time.
00:22Yeah, you could argue that it's actually quite a lot different from Hot Pursuit.
00:27Hot Pursuit was a very kind of bespoke, you know, choose-from-a-menu experience.
00:32Cop vs. Racer is absolutely, you know, weapons, Pursuit tech to take down your rivals.
00:38This time around, it's an open world, massive open world, lots to do.
00:43Play as either a cop or a racer, but the big difference from, I guess,
00:47Hot Pursuit in that regard is that they're very different.
00:50You play through racer in one way, and you play through cop in a totally different way.
00:55Now, just to give our audience a live home, this is a live demo going on right now?
00:59It is indeed, yeah.
01:00Live, what you were watching.
01:01Just like we are live, the demo is actually live right here.
01:03So it's obviously one of our racers.
01:05Exactly, and it's obviously a Ferrari.
01:07Yes, I know Ferrari's back.
01:08It's a Ferrari 12, what was it, Bernaletta?
01:11Yeah, it's a Bernaletta, F12 Bernaletta.
01:13It's back in the game after seven years not being in Need for Speed.
01:16Obviously, we're proud of that.
01:17And, you know, having a game about exotic cars and not having a Ferrari is not really the perfect fit.
01:24So now they're back, and they're great to drive, and they obviously look great as well.
01:28Now, one of the things I was reading about is that the racers actually can have, they can get speed
01:32points,
01:33and then you can wager those speed points in the game to unlock different rewards.
01:36Can you talk a little bit about that?
01:37Yeah, I can do that and kind of correct the small mistakes in what you said there.
01:42Yes, please, correct all my mistakes.
01:44What this is, is that it's a high-stake risk and reward scoring system,
01:48and it kind of goes back into that the cop and the racer are different.
01:53As a racer, you will go out in the world like this guy's doing now.
01:56You can see he's collecting points.
01:58Right now he has 34,000 points, if you can see that at home.
02:02You can also see there's a number underneath that times four.
02:05That means that every action he makes right now, he's making more and more points.
02:10It exponentially goes up, actually, but to actually get those points,
02:14he needs to go and bank them, and that's where that risk and reward comes in, right?
02:17Because the longer he stays out, the more points he's going to make.
02:20Right.
02:21But, you know, the cops are going to get more and more value from taking him down,
02:26and he's also more highlighted on the map to cops.
02:29So if the cops take him down now, he will lose all those 37,000 points right now,
02:34and the cop will take them.
02:35So it's a really cool, new, interesting scoring mechanic,
02:40which kind of leaves you on the edge of your seat all the time
02:45and really brings energy and excitement to the experience.
02:50Absolutely.
02:50All right, let's just watch for a minute and listen to some of the actual gameplay
02:53that's going on right here.
03:15They can work as a team, is that correct?
03:18They can.
03:19They can work as a team.
03:21Actually, it's beneficial for them to work as a team.
03:24You know, but you absolutely do not have to.
03:28The kind of absolute biggest feature of this game,
03:31something we call all drive.
03:33Right, and that's how they socially connect, right?
03:34Yeah, you know, really what that is, is something, you know, quite brand new.
03:39Instead of having a single-player experience, a co-op experience,
03:42and a multiplayer experience, we simply have one need-for-speed world,
03:46and you choose how to experience that.
03:48The way that works is that if you're playing the game,
03:50you're playing rivals, and then I stop playing rivals, and we're friends,
03:55that means that I'm going to be put into your world,
03:57so you can still be playing single-player on your end, go through the progression.
04:00I'm playing single-player, going through my progression.
04:02We do not need to see each other, even if we want to, obviously.
04:06But then if it happens, and we happen to be on the same street,
04:11then, or the same road, we go into either a co-op or multiplayer experience seamlessly.
04:16There's no lobbies, no waiting.
04:19It just happens through player action, really.
04:21That's great.
04:22So basically, it's kind of like, keep an eye on your rear view.
04:24You never know when someone's going to come up behind you.
04:26Exactly.
04:27You know, you need to keep up for your enemies and your friends.
04:31That's really great.
04:32Now, what about the aesthetic customization of the vehicles?
04:36Can the drivers actually, with their race cars or the cop cars, customize them?
04:39Yeah.
04:39In a game where we go,
04:43obviously, you can play through this game offline, alone, if you want that.
04:48But this layer of all-drive really adds a layer of playing with others.
04:51And when we have that layer, I think it's important to have a car
04:53that can actually express who you are.
04:56So if I want to have, you know, show my love and have a red car with some decals on,
05:02obviously, I want to be able to do that.
05:04So you can change color.
05:06You have license plates.
05:07You have decals on the car.
05:08You can change the rims and change the color of the rims.
05:11Great.
05:12So it's really, you know, we want to be able to kind of give you the tool set
05:16to personalize yourself and your car.
05:19Cool.
05:20Now, I talked, we saw the little EMP come up before.
05:23You got shockwaves.
05:24Any other gadgets at their disposal?
05:26There will be a number of gadgets in this game,
05:29which will all kind of fit into the progression of the game.
05:32Okay.
05:33The EMP is one of them.
05:35They will be upgradable, as in charge-up time,
05:39the actual damage they make.
05:43And it really creates that spice, you know, in the racing world.
05:47We're thinking a lot of kind of the rock, paper, scissors mechanics of that.
05:51So what you do, I can kind of counter.
05:55But when I do something, you can counter that.
05:56And at the end of the day, you know, someone's going to win, right?
05:59That's great.
06:00Now, as far as AllDrive is concerned, is that available online only,
06:04or can that be local as well?
06:07So AllDrive itself is not a game mode per se.
06:10It's just a way of playing.
06:12So if you're playing this game alone, you will be playing with AI, obviously.
06:17Yes.
06:18And the way it's going to play out is that you stop playing this game,
06:20you go through the kind of tutorial, and we're going to ask you,
06:23do you want to, you know, let other people into your game or not?
06:25And, you know, if you do, do you want that only to be friends,
06:29or do you want to help everyone?
06:30Oh, great.
06:31So you kind of control who comes in and out of your racing world.
06:33Absolutely.
06:34And, you know, if you then, when you play, open up to friends,
06:37and we are friends, I can easily come into your world totally seamlessly.
06:41You won't even notice it.
06:42That's so great.
06:43All right.
06:44Well, release date?
06:45When can we get our hands on it?
06:46You can get the hands on the PS3 version of this on the 19th of November.
06:51Great.
06:52It's obviously also on PS4 at a later date.
06:56At a later date.
06:57All right.
06:58Awesome.
06:58Any other things besides the Ferrari F12s or the Berlinetta?
07:02Any other exotic cars that you want to tell us about?
07:05Well, they're 55 to 60 cars.
07:07Wow.
07:07They're all kind of hand-picked and exotic in their own ways.
07:14The thing that, you know, really kind of makes those cars stand out, though,
07:18I'd assume, is the way that we can build them and light them
07:21and using, you know, use of the Frostbite 3 engine, you know,
07:27it is what's propelling, you know, Battlefield 4 as well, right?
07:31It's a very, very capable engine.
07:33And it is quite, you know, with some margin,
07:38probably the best-looking need-to-speak game who ever made.
07:40And we're, you know, obviously very intrigued of taking it on to the next generation.
07:45All right.
07:46Well, thanks so much.
07:47I can't wait to drive one.
07:48Thanks for joining us.
07:49All right, guys.
07:49Up next, we're going to take a look at Puppeteer.
08:01A short time ago, in a galaxy far from far away.
08:09Prepare for an astonishing adventure full of mystery,
08:14full of danger, and full of artistry.
08:17At stake were not just one boy's fate,
08:21but the fate of the whole moon and the earth and the sun and galaxy.
08:39As the clash grew even clashier,
08:42the boy snipped, sliced and sundered with the cold realization
08:47his life counted on it.
08:49The flimsy soul of a selfish boy
08:52had become the adamantine soul of a hero.
08:55Kutero, may the forceps,
08:57I mean, scissors, be with you.
09:01Go!
09:05PlayStation.
09:17All right.
09:17Thank you.
09:17All right.
