00:04on sale this week so the rover van den Plouwer here we are you can argue they're probably
00:14underrated it is the final drive it's not quite a Rolls-Royce but it's as good as you feel like
00:21you're on a nice ocean liner just cruising it's up there it's van den Plouwer it's a bonnie color
00:27it's a lovely condition car sensible on the miles very very genuine little car 1992 Peugeot 205 GTI
00:37wow these are romping on dad have you seen this guess the mileage guess the mileage no more than
00:4615,000 oh you're right yeah 11 the smell give it away a wartime 1942 Harley-Davidson motorcycle
00:56yeah oh my god we've got some bids here don't come across many of these dear big V twins hey
01:03you got
01:04to remind the Yanks really empty I mean they're make an ostentatious machine but at the same time
01:08it's purposeful in it I mean it's amazing bit of kit the Matthewsons a dynasty of classic car auctioneers
01:2055 the joys of an auction most people will go to a sale with something in mind but come away
01:25with
01:25something different the fun is the chase we'll have a look and we'll advise you from there you
01:29just don't know what's on the end of the phone what you're gonna find when you open them doors
01:33this is a family's love affair with motors that have lived a life testing testing most people will buy a
01:41car because they can relate to it maybe a car that dad had you're selling dreams right here we go
01:51whoa whoa wait wait wait oh no I'll carry on with handbrake
01:59it's the start of another working week and Derek's already reached a state of inner bliss
02:06every Monday morning I go out a Monday particularly I go out and think to myself no matter where I'm
02:12going or what I'm doing and I think brilliant this I love this I've got this collection or whatever it
02:20might be to do today and then I've got the rest of the week to catch up with things and
02:25all the rest
02:26of it so it's the starting of a new week so I love Mondays I absolutely adore Mondays I don't
02:32like
02:33Fridays you know you look back and you think I wish I'd have done a bit more I've underachieved this
02:38week I'm not done as well as I would have liked but on Mondays you're optimistic in front of you
02:42you know
02:42brilliant good old Derrick hmm but there's every reason to be happy the garage is filling up nicely
02:55with space being made for a new arrival from just up the road a 1985 Rover SD1
03:03the owner's more than prepared to drive it over I can remember the first time I went out in one
03:08my dad took me out in one and then the dash was like something out of Concord at the time
03:12you know
03:13like this long as a kid they're like you know and the choke down by the you know down here
03:19by the
03:20handbrake with just about every other car had ever been in the choke was under the dash somewhere and
03:24yeah just great and I remember it being a v8 manual which is the ones I have really this one's
03:30a 2.6 I
03:31thing that's coming in it looks absolutely lovely deep in rural North Yorkshire Alistair Broadway did
03:40getting ready to say his goodbyes to an 80s classic and in doing so honor the memory of one of
03:46his
03:46closest chums it's a parto red it's a lovely color British Leyland they had some really good colors in
03:57the 1980s and this just epitomizes the 1980s what was coming out of Longbridge at the time when you
04:05said it when if you first said a portal I don't know why but I thought red wine well that's
04:09how I
04:09remember it because of port the Rover SD1 belonged to Mark Elliott Alistair's best buddy for the last 20
04:22years who's recently passed away and being a vandenpla it's luxury on wheels Mark was the third owner of
04:30this car it was originally a bank managers it's that sort of middle-class you know 1980s scenario I mean
04:40the Germans there were the BMW 5 series we have the the Rover range VW they have to like the
04:48early
04:49Passats so and then there was the Audi's of course which were competition really for the Rover car
04:55and it's when Rovers were good and with it being a vandenpla you know it's a little bit more plush
05:03are inside so you know you've got your pipe in the interior the roof is really good quite well
05:10appointed inside really we're going to pick her in and hopefully they're going to do a good job at
05:16selling this car for us oh look at these yeah something special aren't they wow look at that
05:35oversized and over here and lurking with the motorbike squad a 1940s military spec Harley Davison one of
05:43three that's been brought in big V twins hey you gotta remind the yanks really I mean they're
05:49they make an ostentatious machine but at the same time it's purposeful and I mean when this is running
05:54along at 60 miles an hour it's probably only doing 1200 revs and it's like a like a great big
05:59V8 almost
06:00in this almost a V2 it's amazing bit of kit it's absolutely incredible yeah a little bit of a limited
06:07market amongst the older guys because I mean it's so big and so heavy to lug about but then again
06:13it's iconic and it's military makes a difference yeah clutch this side look at the even that's made
06:19for army boots and the size of the thing and hand change I love hand change but of course our
06:26hand
06:26changes over here there's left-hand drive it's a left-hand drive motorcycle how about that yeah oh
06:34yeah well I've got a big ass do you all get on here no let's try yeah no sit on
06:40the front go on no go
06:42on no they won't get on there look what if I get my leg over it and don't I'll tell
06:45you the right go on
06:45no you're all right go on that's it yeah yeah oh yeah you got it yeah yeah yeah marvellous she
06:52looks
06:53like an American cop got the uniform on look hey yeah she does look apart yeah Derek yeah no so
07:02I'm
07:02just checking if that is a stand but it's not I think it's a bomb I'm on me both feet
07:06you're
07:06all right oh it's not gonna right well we're done are we now yeah crack on is it holding it
07:10yeah it stands all right yeah you got it yeah well well I'm Jill right out guys suits you yeah
07:15oh yeah
07:15I'm not buying it though right crack on come on so a genuine wartime bike so I suppose it's going
07:22to fall into the category of a willys jeep and a good willys jeep is 20,000 quid 25,000
07:28for something
07:29that is absolutely stunning especially like a 1942 with proper wartime history these I don't suppose
07:35will achieve quite that money but probably 15,000 quid on a good day this is a very niche market
07:41but
07:42an ever so strong market do do do do do look at that paint with the Sun coming off it
07:53blimey yeah
07:54that is nice well some vehicles have been to hell and back wowsers others have had it easy I saw
08:01it
08:01pull up on the on the lorry and I thought blimey that looks clean and then the more you look
08:06around
08:06it it is immaculate that is really nice isn't it look at the interior as well oh that's probably why
08:14Phil 11837 I'm not very good at maths but that's 11,837 I think isn't it blimey is that all
08:25it's done
08:29there'll be a lot of interest in a restored 1992 1.6 Peugeot 205 GTI a one-owner motor that's
08:38been
08:38garaged for 18 years let's face it you know your stereotypical one what comes in they've all been
08:43used they're all all right you know they're all a little bit mediocre aren't they you know every now
08:48and then you get one yeah taking me by surprises a little bit it is lovely yeah dad have you
08:57seen
08:58this guess the mileage guess the mileage guess the mileage can I look at the seat you can have a
09:06look
09:07at the driver's seat but don't look at the dashboard you've got to stay from this angle Dave's getting
09:11the whiff of an underused car you can smell it that's likely to send the punters into a feeding
09:17frenzy no more than 15,000 oh you're right yeah 11 11 11 you can the smell give it away
09:29yeah it's
09:29right away first thing you can tell yeah you're not gonna find a nicer one are you no no it's
09:35really
09:35really nice the vendors hoping for upwards of 25 grand everything looks correct and period on the
09:41car so so should the wheels yeah I would put 1.6 wheels on it straight away and I'll put
09:50a set of
09:50mud flaps on its trail try and get the Peugeot mud flaps you store Peugeot 205 right and I'll try
09:54and get them in yeah that's what I would do yeah and really just finish it off hang on it's
09:59my bank
09:59magic can I yeah can I buy a Peugeot yeah there you are it all boils down to a sensible
10:07reserve at
10:08the end of the day it must be nearly the lowest mileage one in the in the UK surely and
10:13in this
10:13condition now it's going to be an interesting one but yeah no cause a lot of interest I'm sure
10:33the sun's cracking the flags in North Yorkshire just the sort of day that lingers long in the mind
10:38and for a 40 year old Rover SD1 it's one to remember too it is the final drive Alistair Broadwith
10:46is taking
10:47his best friend's motor for a final spin destination the Mathewson's auction quite emotional sort of the
10:56last connection I have with Mark's car but it's an honor and a privilege to do we're celebrating you
11:03know mark and and how he loved the car I met Mark he was delivering parcels for us in our
11:12area he became
11:13sort of on the bit of the blue really because he'd seen the route master bus which I owned at
11:20the time
11:21not knowing that mark his great passion in life was buses and especially London route master buses he
11:30was one of my best friends and you know I look at it now it was very hard you know
11:35a year ago when we
11:36lost mark but I just have to be grateful for them 20 years that we spent together it was great
11:47it's not quite a Rolls Royce but it's as good as you feel like you're on a nice ocean liner
11:55just cruising
11:57and that silky smooth six cylinder it just burbles away they were looked upon as a poor man's jack but
12:06what
12:07makes this car a little bit special Mark and me quite like the film Bob Sue and Rita too and
12:15of course what
12:17was in that film and a port or red Rover SD one but it is a great film I think
12:27it's very fitting really
12:29that the family has sort of entrusted me to to look after the car and make sure it goes you
12:39know to the
12:39next home and custodian mark would have looked it today and going to Matthewson's mark was quite
12:47emotional and I'm quite an emotional and I think you know it's a fitting thing to take it on its
12:55last
13:04journey I think it's quite rare isn't it Harley army bike there's been loads of interest in these old
13:11bikes they really have they must be somewhat a bit special I don't see it myself like but
13:15bikes haven't been selling particularly well have they as a rule no but one or two this sale actually
13:20have so the vendor of the three Harley Davidsons brought them in one Saturday and he said I'll
13:25please get them in this auction because I need a new roof so the money is funding his new roof
13:30it's like a church appeal isn't it really there might be a bit of dust on it it might have
13:36been
13:36stood around a little bit but but you know look beyond look beyond so well that's right a little bit
13:43of stubble a bit overweight maybe possibly maybe look look look further a wartime
13:551942 Harley Davison motorcycle yeah oh my god we've got some bids here don't come across many of these
14:02do you right 13 4 13 6 13 8 14 14 2 14 4 14 6 they're looking for 14
14:13800 14 7 14 8 who's got 9 are you all done
14:1914 9 15 15 15 15 1 15 100 on sale and selling then 15 100 here's the two be
14:29quick 15 100 15 100 for the first second third and last time
14:3715 100 15 1 thank you right behind the hand went down a 15 once there's a happy cell somewhere
14:42but maybe he could get a fatty roof maybe it were gold-plated or something he must have a fair
14:48roof
14:49he's doubled his estimate he'll be thrilled to bits he'll be having double the depth of insulation in it now
14:54it will be a massive Ewaliu now all that's sorted there's collections to be made and Derrick's heading West to
15:04the other side of the Pennines
15:06Strange thing is I'll spend more time in Bolton after like 10 o'clock at night than I have
15:11during the day because it's one of them places that I call in and pick a car up on the
15:18way back
15:18and it always seems to be evening time and so I've only really really seen Bolton after dark
15:26but they tell me that's the best time to view it so we'll see. While Derek works on his application
15:34to join the Bolton Tourist Board, former bus driver Paul Hoskins is waiting with a pair of
15:39Triumphs, a two-tone Herald and a sporty Vitesse. I've had this car for 20 years and the time I
15:50had it on the road and ran it and maintained it I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it
15:55unfortunately now the amount of work that's required on the Vitesse is beyond what I am
16:01physically capable of doing and the Herald was purchased as a stopgap but it's time
16:07now to have a complete change. Our family had standards and Triumphs for as long as I can
16:15remember. This is a 1963 Triumph Herald which has a 1200 engine in it. We had one of the first
16:26Heralds
16:27off the production line in 1959 it was Litchfield green all over oh it was horrible because a Herald is
16:36crying out for the two-tone. It was a lovely car but it would have been nicer if it was
16:41green and white.
16:42They might seem similar but of the two it's the Vitesse that's the nippy thoroughbred. I'd always fancied
16:49one simply through a comment that my dad made in 1962. He was reading this Sunday paper and he saw
16:58the advert for the brand new Vitesse which was a Herald with a 1600 six-cylinder engine in it and
17:05he looked at the advert he took his glasses off he looked at the advert he put his glasses on
17:11again
17:11and looked at me and he says good god you wouldn't drive that you'd point it. It was the Grand
17:19Tourer
17:19of the time this particular model is what they call a single dial it only has a speedo in it
17:27and
17:27the salespeople at Triumph were having difficulty selling them because the opposition had far more
17:36instrumentation and within about 12 or 18 months Triumph had put rev counters and other instruments
17:44in the dashboard so the single dial ones now are actually quite rare there's only 10 1962 models
17:53known to exist so it's something special. It's time to have a change I'm afraid I can no longer stand
18:01the cold a little bit of model railway I've always been interested in railways which I can
18:06work on in the house in the warm with a wee glass of scotch at the side of me oh
18:12right well in that
18:13case I better come and film model railways and not stand out here in the cold filming your car then
18:17a few days ago a very low mileage Peugeot 205 tipped up
18:58the Volvo 300 series might look as Swedish meatballs but its roots lie in the Netherlands when Volvo took over
19:05DAF's car making division in the mid 70s it was an attempt to break into the compact car market and
19:14early models used DAF's quirky
19:15transmission system unlike virtually every other car it was basically propelled by a rubber band
19:23traditional engines soon took over peaking with the two-litre four-cylinder 360 which was a gateway for many to
19:30the tank-like durability that became Volvo's hallmark
19:40well that's a new car isn't it really so that screams 4,000 mile that doesn't it yeah all nice
19:49and puffed up not not saggy and horrible
19:54it's probably worth six and six and a half but I can see it doing more by the time we've
20:02cleaned it and and sort of got it ready
20:05um it won't look far adrift just just staff little bits like that exhaust look that would annoy me if
20:11it was mine because it's not the right color and it's all rusty and horrible just just daft stuff like
20:16that if you do them it'll just just finish it just be lovely
20:41hello nice to meet you Derek you all right nice to meet you full right you're going
20:46Derrick's landed in Bolton to collect Paul Hoskins two triumphs
20:51it's a posh spot John isn't it hey Bolton's gone up in my opinion the heralds are running unlike the
20:58Vitesse which hasn't moved in 15 years and needs some TLC there's a starting procedure with this if you
21:06leave it overnight or for a few days pull the chalk slowly out yeah when you go to start it
21:11push the
21:11chalk in to about three quarters right pump the accelerator pedal twice to prime the carb
21:17right and she'll be straight on the bottom right no problem now this is the left hand one's clutch
21:24on it isn't it left wheel yeah I think it's one far left yeah well try them all and see
21:29what happens
21:38oh power steering ain't working
21:43I'm gonna get that on here push that one out load her on tea cake all the rest of it
21:49and away
21:52this is a sad moment this very sad moment stock I think so
22:04right what's the plan here then Derrick just pull it right simple as that
22:10go get up cup off what for they were quick they were the XR3 of their day yeah well 1600
22:18CC
22:19six cylinder engine way on top of the job little tiny body oh yeah and of course they went up
22:24to
22:24two litre as we know in about 1967 or something 66 triumph sort of got it right didn't they for
22:32once only thing they forgot was that all the running gears 15 20 years older but having said that they
22:40were good kind of that I like them I'm a fan of them definitely fan of them such Italian flair
22:47everybody wanted them you name another car that has such flair and even the flair of the back of the
22:55roof matches the flair of the fins but they had to be too torn grand to meet you Paul lovely
23:04to
23:04meet a pleasure got the keys in the car yeah both lots of keys in the car I'll do me
23:09time sheet and
23:11then back to God's own country somebody out there will say that will make a nice car when it's done
23:18and I'm hoping that they will buy it do the restoration and one day I'll see her back on the
23:24road again maybe even have a wee ride in there that would be lovely 609 mark 3 rally chopper 210
23:36pound and away then 210 all done 210 pound but more on the sheet I can't do that it's auction
23:43day and
23:44they're up and off with some serious selling out of gas gasoline whereabouts then 55 pound that's one
23:52lot down just another 800 to go next up the pristine Peugeot GTI with less than 12,000 miles on
24:00the clock
24:041992 Peugeot 205 GTI lot number 630 wow these are romping on right here we go then we're um on
24:13south in the world go 26,000 26 27 28 29 29 loads of interest in it 29,000 29
24:20going then 29,000 pound who's
24:23going to fill it up 29,000 pound all done then 29,000 five 29,000 five 29,000 five
24:3230 30,000 30,000 30,000
24:34thousand pound cheers thank you 30,000 30,000 30,000 500 30,000 531 31,000 on sale it's
24:44lovely it's down there
24:45the low mileage Peugeot has exceeded everyone's expectations now who's up for a hardly used Volvo
25:07it's a 1986 Volvo 360 GLT now I'll just tell you where we're going to start
25:12he bought it new it's done 4,800 miles that's all it's done it smells new and looks new inside
25:21going then 6,800 6,800 6,800 7,000 7,000 pound 7,200 7,400 7,400 smells
25:32like a brand new car inside
25:33I can't really I've got so much interest 7,600 I'll take 7,600 7,600 put a bid in
25:40for 7,600 for nothing
25:42this car 7,600 is that okay a brand new Volvo 360 GLT 7,600 7,600 7,800 Wrexham
25:53right somebody jumped in now
25:55job would be right 7,800 8,000 8,000 going then going to submit it 8,000 pound 8
26:02,000 pound lovely car
26:038,000 submitting for the first 8,000 pound with us third and last time provisionally 8,000 pound
26:13Alan goodbye 8,000 pound it's yours we've got it okay the office will be in touch all right
26:21thank you very much thank you thanks bye the 360 isn't going far a Volvo specialist garage in York
26:39has snapped it up looks a nice usable car and then flat how are we then Alistair good nice to
26:45meet
26:45you mate to meet you good lad here she is look all the way from the sticks Mark Elliott's 40
26:52year old
26:52Rover drive all right it's never missed a beat all the way over so well it's only done just over
26:5938,000 miles
27:00is that all it's done with every single build from you original owners all the MOTs yeah yeah so I
27:09mean if you look at the seats
27:10you can tell yeah look at them seat bolsters and so forth look prove the mileage yeah that's it pedal
27:16rubbers
27:17mats carpets yeah just general dashboard and so forth hopefully well to be fair that's the main
27:22thing for this one in it you know to go to a good home at the end of the day
27:25it's all about that isn't
27:26it and Mark would have loved that I wish I'd met him good lovely car really nice car once tucked
27:36up in
27:36the showroom the Rover reveals its finer points I mean the Vitesse was the sports version wasn't it
27:43but in the luxury car world it's the next thing down I know it's not a V8 but on the
27:50ladder it's up
27:51there you know it's up there it's Vandenpla it's a bonny colour it's a lovely condition car sensible on
27:57the miles nice wheels nice finish you know very very genuine little car but it's 2.6 so could be
28:05worse
28:06could be a two litre couldn't it if it was a V8 it would be a chunk more money as
28:10well if it was a
28:12Vitesse it would be a chunk more money again so balance it all up not a bad option at all
28:19in my
28:19book yeah it's had a it's had a reasonable a bit of paint over the years I would suggest but
28:28it's
28:28been done nicely the good thing about it is it's been done some time ago so any paint that it
28:35has had
28:36is going back a bit nobody wants to buy anything that was painted last Tuesday afternoon I don't
28:42think it's had a full house I just think it's had bits and pieces to keep it looking nice if
28:47a car
28:47looks nice in this bright sunlight like now this is here it'll look fantastic in the shade yeah I would
28:53think you're going to be looking around the 8,000 pound mark I would think
29:07the lots keep on arriving including Derek's load that's made a triumphant return from Bolton
29:22I'm going to ask him how long that's been packed up for it's not going to be every man and
29:27his dog
29:27wanting it but I'm sure that there'll be two or three or four people that will want to buy this
29:32one
29:32or that one or whatever the marketing really should be all right for him as long as we do our
29:39job right
29:42me Vitesse every time six-cylinder I love that six-cylinder the little fours are great little
29:48car don't get me wrong little 1200 lovely little thing little sweetie I bet you want a six potter
29:52don't you really there's no substitute to two pistons is there the more the merrier
30:15the showroom's filling up I don't mind them I think they're a good little car amongst the lots
30:20two triumphs a non-starting six-cylinder Vitesse that needs a bit of love it's all about that badge
30:27in it but not a big money because of the work required on the car I would say it's probably
30:33going to hit around the three thousand pound mark and a two-tone Herald that's ready to rock in the
30:42world of Heralds you're not a bad Herald at all that door fit for a Herald is good you can
30:50normally
30:50get into a Herald through the gap whereas these are an absolute mechanics dream because you've got
30:58full access to everything and not only have you got full access to everything they've even thought
31:06about giving you a seat to do it I mean what other car gives you a seat to sit on
31:13and somewhere to put
31:15your cup of tea that put your cup of tea there or here you've just got a tray there yeah
31:19so you can
31:20have tea sandwich biscuits yeah lovely isn't it everything is simple if you can't work on one of
31:28these triumph Heralds then basically you can't work on anything mechanical not in our industry no way
31:35you know if this beats you then life's beat you really to be honest with you yeah now so for
31:43that
31:43reason alone they've got to be on your list haven't they little Herald like that four four and a half
31:52thousand pound which is a lot of little car isn't it for that you know in in our world that's
31:58not a lot of
32:05money we picked this up yeah it was over the border wasn't it yeah we took a risk getting over
32:10there
32:10really didn't we we don't like going over there particularly do we what a lovely day we had yeah
32:14we had a good day we had cake and all the rest of it didn't we and all that sort
32:17of stuff well you did
32:17yeah it was great 462 63 Triumph Feral 1200 nice old car do you know what I've got a bid
32:24here
32:24absolutely bang on in line with the reserve how about that that's spooky isn't it four thousand
32:31pounds 41 four thousand one hundred four thousand one hundred on sale and going four thousand one
32:36hundred all done then I'm selling it four thousand one hundred and away all done then four thousand
32:41one hundred four one there you go now the second car we picked up which is the Vitesse start me
32:49on it
32:50whereabouts two thousand two thousand two two thousand four two thousand four nice old car
32:54sixteen hundred early one sixteen hundred better still smoother still two thousand four hundred
33:00twenty four hundred pound twenty four not enough twenty four twenty five worth a lot more this car
33:04twenty five two thousand five only selling it provisionally only are you all done then
33:08two thousand five hundred won't be enough got to find some more money
33:12twenty five provisional four sixty three snap-on solace ultra diagnostic tool
33:18hey it's a proper tool you got there me in the end two thousand four hundred clinched the deal
33:25the Vitesse is heading south to Essex I think I've only put 50 miles on it but it will get
33:39used
33:40it the ultra low mileage Peugeot that was sold with eleven thousand eight hundred miles on the clock
33:46is still being pampered it's not like it's going to be a daily driver it's just going to be high
33:51days and holidays kind of thing it'll never see rain that's for sure even in Newcastle yep even in
33:59Newcastle it's the only water it's going to see is for the radiator and the washer bottle and that's it
34:05this is the second Peugeot 205 GTI that Tony Sayers has owned
34:11mine was red exactly the same spec sunroof red 1600 perfect
34:19well 30 years after I sold the other one I saw that one come up on Matthewson's website
34:25they seem to think it was it was a cracker and I went down and had a look and they
34:29weren't wrong
34:31it was a case I had to have it I'd always said if I could find one that was it
34:37was a good condition
34:38one I'd have I'd have another one and I couldn't believe it when that came up I left 35,000
34:45pounds
34:46hoping nobody would go anywhere near it but unfortunately somebody else was of the view that
34:52they had to have it and they must have left 30 30 and a half something like that so it
35:00cost me 31 but
35:02I'm not bothered it's a brand new car to all intents and purposes and I love the bits it's all
35:10obviously
35:10been garaged because particularly with the reds they sit out in the Sun they fade eventually but that one
35:17hasn't faded at all so it's it has been kept under cover which is still a lot of favors other
35:27very
35:27good to drive they're quite quick at well they were quick in the day and there's still not a slow
35:33car
35:34and they handle very very well I think that's why a lot of boys used to rally them and things
35:40like
35:40that because they're quite good on cornering and things like that it's uh it's just a joy to drive
35:46really somewhere around eight eight and a half seconds to 60 which is was quick back in the day but
35:53it's
35:53not slow now so it's uh you know you can keep up with anything on the roads it's just a
36:01lovely thing
36:02that to own to drive there's the memories as well you know happy days but yeah that one's going to
36:10stay with me for a long time and just drive around with a smile on my face until they take
36:16my license
36:16up that's the second best car I've ever bought which was the first there's your 205 GTI need I say
36:28more
36:40well I've let him know that your offers on the table so no no extra charges it's all included in
36:45your entry fee 2,000 pound to Mongolia is working in the in the desert and it's minus 16 it
36:52takes all
36:53sorts 2,000 pounds provisionally Mr Mongolia fantastic they're big they're wide they actually
37:07handle not too bad they're a bit floaty but they actually because of the width of them they're a
37:11wide car and they actually handle quite well yeah no they're a good car they're all right they're a good
37:20old car ah now then lock number 836 sadly Mark is no longer with us I'm sure Mark would rather
37:26be
37:26with us and he'd rather be driving his Rover on a nice day like today but sadly he isn't and
37:31Alastair
37:32his good friend has stepped in and he's handled the style of the car for the family I ran one
37:36for a
37:36couple of years on and off an early V8 on carbs I think that was a six-cylinder one I
37:41think I haven't
37:41had a lot to do with this particular car to be honest but it looks a nice car on the
37:45face of it
37:46a lovely car not concourse just there you go there you go indeed it does look a lovely car not
37:51a
37:51concourse but a lovely lovely car just the type of car that you you'd like to own so for you
37:56Mark
37:56thanks ever so much mate we'll do our best for you so the Rover yeah the Vandemplar here we are
38:02we
38:02have got six thousand pound there we've got six six two fifty six five seven fifty seven thousand pound
38:08you can argue that probably underrated underrated car then Granada's all that sort of thing you know
38:17Granada's do more money than Rovers for some reason Ford that's why in it just shows doesn't it good
38:22ones do good money and two fifty nine two fifty nine three fifty nine four fifty at nine four fifty
38:30are we done there we go at nine five fifty nine six fifty here at nine thousand six hundred and
38:37fifty
38:37pound we've got nine seven fifty in Devon nine eight fifty but we all done making sure I'm missing no
38:45one at nine thousand eight hundred and fifty pound nine eight fifty there you go nine eight fifty it's
38:54not bad money really was it all in all it's a happy ending for the rather lovely Rover it was
39:01bought by
39:01Nigel Mead from Northamptonshire who recently pressed it into service as a colleague's wedding car
39:15I've got a nice Jaguar I enjoy driving over on the Essex coast Tony Blunden has been patiently
39:23building up a tiny collection of motors that he's been restoring bit by bit I've got the joke from
39:30Masterson's not so long ago but I've done a lot on it there was quite a bit of chrome work
39:35missing off
39:36of it and bits and pieces missing nothing which I've located and done I just keep myself busy and
39:42doing bits and pieces on them all the 1962 mark ii is definitely a head turner and so is this
39:50one
39:521958 Hillman Minx convertible bought it from Derek's about four or five years ago I think you've got
39:59pictures of it then and it's a little bit different now very very attractive old thing got got the makings
40:06of a lovely car now you look at that the way the seat goes to gain access to the back
40:11it's lovely isn't
40:11it the last time we saw the Minx in Whitby well it was a shell of its current self the
40:17engine didn't
40:18run the gearbox wasn't connected 90% of the interior was missing off it no bumpers no lights no nothing
40:27it's taken me a good four years to get to this stage but I was waiting for bits and pieces
40:33to come
40:33like the door panels and all that I wanted to get the original stuff for it all the inner seals
40:38out of
40:38seals absolutely pristine you just can't buy them like this which brings us nicely onto Tony's latest
40:47acquisition a 1962 Triumph Vitesse that used to belong to a bus driver from Bolton I only finished
40:55it under two days ago and I'm going to take out for a ride in a bit and hopefully if
40:59it drives as nice as
41:00I think it's going to then I'll um I'll spend some time on the body work and get the paint
41:05work done
41:06and sort it out it's called triumph white triumph 19 it's called the color code it's got the black
41:14stripe down it which I like try it for test see there's so much paperwork it's unbelievable even
41:22the old brown logbook with it loads and all the MOT's stacks of MOT's the engine sound it's got the
41:37oomph in it ain't it six cylinder and a small car it's you know it's like a sports car apparently
41:44they give Andrew well very well it's a notey thing on the time period turn on a sixpence which you
41:50can
41:51do there's no luxuries in them at all is there in the old cars but think yourself lucky if the
41:56windscreen wipers work I'm happy with the car I'll keep it and um same as I do with all the
42:04others I can't
42:04drive them all can I but I've got I've got to carry on doing work keep yourself busy oh there
42:15we go sound
42:17as a pound yeah absolutely sounds about all over the Vitesse just needs a paint job with all the work
42:24being carefully chronicled by Tony's granddaughter Renee she's always drawing it's come to a classic
42:31car show with me and she draws all the classic cars and she's sitting there while I'm working out in
42:36the garage here she'll sit and draw me because they've got lines the new cars they've not really
42:41got lines in them have they be although she didn't like you're not too keen on the spoke wheels are
42:46you
42:48in the meantime it's back to the drawing board for Tony as he searches out his next project
42:54and did we mention that he likes a sing-song
43:07I feel up
