00:12And I'm the senior audio artist on Dead Space 3
00:16We're gonna take a look at our current single player demo
00:21Isaac! Carver, goddammit, give me a hand here!
00:23As the demo begins, Isaac Clarke finds himself on a ship called Eudora
00:28Which happens to belong to this guy here who he's handing a welding torch to
00:32The ship has just been nearly obliterated by an attack
00:35And now they're trying to make their way off the ship
00:37Carver! Where can I find an EVA suit?
00:41Carver! Down that way!
00:54This is a scene I love for audio because there's so much going on
00:57And yet we've still found a way to use subtlety in the scene
01:03Even amidst all of the choking, the explosions and the bombast
01:06There are like shards of glass floating around like a cloud
01:10And the environment that signal to the player that you have to go this way
01:14And yet it's very dangerous to go this way
01:30In this part, Isaac desperately is trying to get his space suit on in time
01:34The clock is counting down and the ship is on fire, it's about to blow up
01:45He gets the cabinet open
01:47And his helmet goes flying out into outer space
01:49So he knows he only has a minute or something before he's going to suffocate
01:53And he launches himself into space after that helmet, which is his lifeline
01:58And he gets it just in the nick of time as he finds himself in the middle of the Eudora
02:03As it's flying to pieces
02:05Guys, okay, I see it!
02:07Let's find something to hang on to!
02:26Oh, shit!
02:35In this section, Isaac is flung out of the exploding Eudora spaceship
02:40And he finds himself hurtling, you know, 100 miles an hour through space
02:45As pieces of this ancient flotilla are whizzing by him
02:49And what this did is it gave us a really excellent opportunity for introducing the next setting for
02:55Isaac in the game, which is this derelict flotilla lost a long time ago in outer space
03:01You've got Isaac, this little insignificant guy, flying through massive pieces of ship
03:06That are just tumbling left and right
03:08And we wanted to create an intense feeling of chaos for the player
03:11So they just can almost not comprehend how much stuff is going on around them
03:16And they're freaking out about which way they have to go, left or right
03:20And as they're going, they're just seeing pieces of ancient history tumbling by
03:24And very much so is kind of like the evolution of the halo jump that we did in Dead Space
03:292 as well
03:30I mean, sonically and gameplay wise, there's so much going on
03:41We took the environment and created three new threats within that environment
03:46And we had to pay off on all of those sonically
03:48Making sure that the gameplay was thrilling as could be
03:54In a scene like this on one of the prior games, we would have made it much more aleatoric
03:58And just about kind of tone clusters and chord swells that are really difficult to relate to
04:04And I think that we're inching towards going towards a more thematic musical approach
04:24Oh, it looks like the power's out everywhere
04:26There's no way to activate the cargo doors
04:28What about that door?
04:30He's got a manual prank
04:32No, that's right
04:33I'll see you waiting in the inside
04:36In this section, Isaac is separated from the rest of his crew
04:39He's run out of options
04:40He had previously just been flying through space
04:43And now the only thing left for him is to go into this derelict ship
04:47It's his only hope of oxygen and some parts that he can scavenge and upgrade his equipment
04:51And somehow survive this event that's happened to him
04:56Looks like I'm the first person to come through here in a long time
05:01There's sensual air
05:04Tastes like dirt
05:06Tonically, I think it's really unique in all of Dead Space because
05:09It's one of the most quiet environments we've ever created
05:14So you it really amplifies that sense of Isaacs being alone and being separated from his crew
05:21And going deeper into finding out what happened here
05:46It's getting hard to breathe, sir
05:49How much longer?
05:50Yeah, but we're working as fast as we can
05:52I don't know, Mark's really pale, sir
05:54I can't stop the bleeding
05:56Hey, Isaac, okay, meet me at the door
05:58I can let you in from this side
06:00Right there, now get in here, give me a hand
06:02Aye, aye, Captain
06:03Hey, don't be cute

06:17Isaac, Ellie's SOS is coming from deeper inside this ship, but I can't leave Rosen and Locke
06:21Send me the coordinates, I'll go check it out
06:24Here you go, hey, don't stray too far, that's an order
06:48It's my favorite moment right here
06:50Door opens, lights shining through and illuminates everything beyond the door
06:55Which happens to be what happened to the crew
06:57And now you find out that something more sinister has happened to them
07:24Oh, shit, holy shit
07:26What, what, what is it, what's going on?
07:28I just got jumped by what's left of the crew
07:29What?
07:30No, no one could have survived out here for that long
07:32They didn't survive
07:34They got turned into those things
07:37What, okay, what, what do we do?
07:39You keep your weapon ready and you stay the hell away from the ventilation ducts
07:43If they get close, shoot for the limbs
07:45You got that?
07:47I said you got that
07:49Yeah, yeah, okay, okay
07:51One thing that I think is really interesting about the necromorphs this time out
07:54Is that they've been made out of these 200-year-old mummified corpses
07:59So as you're going through the ship, you just, you find these kind of crusty, crackling, strange aberrations
08:09that have been turned into necromorphs from a long, long time ago
08:12It's just a really interesting way to see what the necromorph infection would do to a mummy
08:54poorer to the changing male
08:58The necromorphs are gone
