00:06Hello everyone, and thank you for joining us today.
00:11This is Satoru Iwata from Nintendo.
00:15In this installment of Nintendo Direct,
00:18which we are broadcasting simultaneously worldwide,
00:22we would like to deliver directly to you
00:25updates on games that we'll be launching this year.
00:30I know that many of you are looking forward to E3 in June.
00:35We are preparing a separate Nintendo Direct
00:39that is focused on future Wii U contents
00:42that will air around the time of E3.
00:47Together with the news that we will share with you today,
00:51these should help you to understand more about
00:55what is on the horizon for Nintendo.
01:00So, let's begin.
01:03First, I have a game from Sega to announce.
01:08It's the latest in the Mario and Sonic series.
01:12The upcoming Olympic Winter Games will take place in a city called Sochi.
01:19Do you know where this is?
01:22According to the world map, it's around here in southern Russia.
01:28Sochi is known as a resort town facing the Black Sea.
01:34While Russia is often known as a place of extreme cold,
01:40Sochi is relatively warm.
01:42I thought it would be much colder until I looked into it.
01:49But that's enough geography for now.
01:53Let's have a look at the game.
01:55This is a Wii U game, and as you can see, the graphics are enhanced in comparison to earlier games
02:05in the series.
02:06The characters are detailed, and environment effects such as snow and ice are realistically presented.
02:14Additionally, the game uses the Wii Remote Plus controller, so it allows for very intuitive gameplay.
02:24In addition to returning events, such as skiing and snowboarding, we have added figure skating pairs and event that is
02:36new for the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games snowboarding slope style.
02:43Some of the events utilize the Wii U gamepad as well.
02:49For example, in curling, the player must draw a line directly on the ice link displayed on the gamepad to
02:58share their strategy with the other players.
03:02In the biathlon event, which is a combination of cross-country skiing and rifle shooting,
03:09the player must switch between the Wii Remote Plus and gamepad, depending on the situation.
03:17In addition to these official events of the Olympic Games, the game also offers what we are calling dream events
03:26as well,
03:28where stages are built in the world of Sonic and Mario, and you can do dynamic moves, not all, in
03:36real life.
03:37We also have a mixed event, which combines sports such as skiing, snowboarding, scaling, and bobsleigh in one race.
03:48In this event, you can experience a race that is not possible in actual events at the Olympic Games.
03:56Please stay tuned for launch timing and more details on the game.
04:02I have some additional information on Sonic the Hedgehog that I would like to share with you.
04:09Today, I would like to announce that we have entered into a worldwide partnership with Sega on the Sonic the
04:18Hedgehog franchise.
04:19The next game in the series, Sonic Lost World, is a brand new action-adventure platforming game
04:28that will launch exclusively on Wii U and Nintendo 3DS.
04:34We'll have more details on this game prior to E3.
04:40Now, I would like to talk briefly about Game and Wario.
04:45From June 28th, players all across Europe will be able to enjoy a new kind of fun on Wii U.
04:55There are 16 games for which you use the Wii U gamepad in many unique ways.
05:01And all you need is just one gamepad, and all the players enjoy all the games without a Wii remote.
05:13Please take a look at this trailer and see for yourself.
05:37I don't need the name of the Wii U gamepad, because we'll start next week.
05:38Go to the Wii U gamepad!
05:39We'll find a gamepad
05:41Go to the Wii U gamepad in the Wii U gamepad!
05:47And the Wii U gamepad in the Wii U gamepad!
05:50Hopefully, we'll see you guys who've gained a little bit of screen.
05:50Go to the Wii U gamepad wiki!
05:52Go to the Wii U gamepad in the Wii U gamepad!
05:53The Wii U gamepad was 3-20's gamepad.
05:53No one gamepad was 1, 2,000.
05:54Well, this is a gamepad gamepad.
05:54Yeah, let's just play a gamepad with the Wii U gamepad!
06:00KWWWO, I'll be able to play with Zelda.
06:26Sì, sì, sì, sì, sì.
06:31Ciao!
07:10Grazie a tutti!
07:36Grazie a tutti!
08:02Also, Capcom has added the popular characters, Hank and Rachel, to the action-focused raid mode.
08:12There are also new controls using the gamepad.
08:45I might be able to shoot it off.
08:47The game is Miiverse compatible as well, so you can enjoy unique gameplay features such as death message and creature
08:58voice.
08:58The game is launching in stores and in Nintendo e-shop on May 24th.
09:06We recently launched a downloadable demo in the Nintendo e-shop.
09:10So, I hope you can try it out.
09:16Now, I have more information to share with you about New Super Luigi U.
09:22This downloadable content for New Super Mario Brothers U symbolizes the year of Luigi, which is happening throughout 2013.
09:34Since Mario does not appear in the game, players can enjoy multiplayer by playing as Luigi, Blue Toad, Yellow Toad,
09:45and Nabbit.
09:48Some of you may not know the Nabbit character, so let me refresh your memory.
09:54In Super Mario Brothers U, Nabbit was a character that stole items from Toad's house and players would chase him
10:05in different stages.
10:13This time around, you can actually play as Nabbit.
10:19Nabbit has different abilities from Luigi and the Toad's.
10:23His speed and jump are the same as the others, but he cannot power up even if he collects items.
10:32Instead, he won't take damage when he touches enemies.
10:38Nabbit is only available as a playable character in multi-player gameplay, so please select him if you find 2D
10:47Mario gameplay to be challenging.
10:50New Super Luigi U will be released as downloadable content for New Super Mario Brothers U in Nintendo e-shop
10:58on June 20th.
11:00As we mentioned before, the game offers 82 updated courses, unique Luigi gameplay, and an additional playable character in Nabbit.
11:12It's a completely different experience from New Super Mario Brothers U.
11:18For this game, I understand that some of you may want to play New Super Luigi U, even if you
11:26don't already own New Super Mario Brothers U.
11:31Since it is the year of Luigi, we've decided to release a special standalone version of New Super Luigi U
11:41that does not require the New Super Mario Brothers U game as a limited time offer.
11:48This will be available on July 26th as a package product.
11:55You can either download New Super Luigi U as downloadable content for New Super Mario Brothers U from the Nintendo
12:03e-shop,
12:04or purchase the package standalone version.
12:08Since the contents are the same, you can make a decision on which version to get based on your internet
12:17connection status and whether you already own New Super Mario Brothers U.
12:24Now, I have another game for which we can share a launch date.
12:30It is the Wonderful 101 from Platinum Games, which will come to Europe on August 23rd.
12:39More details about the game will be released gradually between now and launch.
12:45Please stay tuned.
12:47I'm excited to see the finished product from Mr. Kamiya and Platinum Games.
12:54Next, I would like to discuss more on Pikmin 3 for Wii U.
13:00In this game, instead of Olimer, who was the main character in the previous Pikmin titles, there are three new
13:09main characters.
13:10Their names are Alf, Brittany, and the captain, Charlie.
13:17They are from planet Koppai, which is facing its doomsday due to a lack of food.
13:26They set out on their adventure in search of food that can be returned to Koppai.
13:33Due to an accident while traveling, they crash land and encounter a mysterious character called Pikmin.
13:43With their help, the three travelers start exploring.
13:49Their mission is to collect fruit that can be their new food resource while exploring the planet
13:57with the goal of bringing the seas back to their home.
14:03As the explorers found from their preliminary research, there were various kinds of fruit there,
14:11but it was much larger than expected.
14:16They decided to use the Pikmin's help to carry the fruit back to the spaceship.
14:22After extracting the seas, fruit can be converted to juice
14:28and can act as a food for the player characters as they explore the planet.
14:35If they don't have enough food, they can continue their exploration.
14:42They must use the limited time of each day to explore for fruit.
14:47Night on the planet is dangerous, so you can only explore from dawn to dusk.
14:56During this time, it is important to use the different color Pikmin's skills.
15:09Players can divide activities among the different characters
15:13and explore separate areas with different groups of Pikmin's in order to progress with their exploration.
15:21Once you get the hang of it, you can complete tasks within a shorter time frame.
15:27Also, if you make mistakes while you play, you can replay the day or revert to an earlier section of
15:38the game.
15:44The fun of starting over is that you can tap into what you learned from your last play session
15:53to more efficiently complete tasks.
15:59In the first Pikmin game, the player had to start over again and again to figure out
16:06the most efficient way to complete the exploration of the planet in a limited time.
16:14But in this game, there is no big limitation in terms of the days.
16:19So, it is more accessible for those that have not played previous Pikmin games.
16:26At the same time, experienced players can enjoy the game deeply
16:30because the more you play, you get better with the new Pikmin and new courses.
16:38And this is another one of your assets in surviving the adventure.
16:44In Pikmin 3, the gamepad becomes a handy information terminal called the coppad.
16:55As you can see, the area you have currently explored is shown on the map.
17:03You can see where the Pikmin and player characters are located.
17:09Also, by scrolling the screen with your finger, you can see the details of each area on the TV screen.
17:19Additionally, if you scroll the map while selecting one of the player characters like this,
17:26you can move them to a specific location automatically.
17:30With the coppad, you can view the overall map and grasp what each character and Pikmin are doing on their
17:40assigned tasks.
17:42At the end of the day, you can see the replay of the entire day.
17:48Fast-forwarding and rewinding replay footage to review a day
17:53and the number of remaining Pikmin is a part of your strategy to get ready for the next day.
18:00I'd like to share some information on the game's control as well.
18:06We are preparing a few types of game controls that players can choose from.
18:13Play control using the gamepad is similar to playing the previous Pikmin games on the GameCube.
18:19The game is also compatible with the Wii U Pro Controller.
18:26If you have played Pikmin 2 for Wii, you'll know that the Wii Remote and Nunchak Control Scheme
18:35makes it easy and intuitive to decide where you want to use Pikmin.
18:41With Wii Remote Plus, these controls have become more comfortable.
18:47We are mainly focusing on this control scheme today.
18:52Also, you can enjoy the full game without a TV by just using the gamepad.
18:58You can also play the game with Wii Remote and Nunchak using the gamepad as a monitor.
19:05With the help of Pikmin and the Koppi Pad, can Alf, Brittany and Charlie save their home planet, Koppi?
19:17Today, I shared updates on the game's story mode.
19:21But another time, we will be able to share more on Challenge Mode and the game's multiplayer modes.
19:31Pikmin 3 launch is sixth.
19:33Thank you for watching.
19:35That is all that I have to share today.
19:38See you around that time of E3.
19:43That's all!
19:44See you around that time of
19:45Koppi Pad!
19:45You will be able to share the voice of Koppi Pad!
19:45I'm going to be able to share this video.
19:47I'm going to see you at the limit forärenfire 모 of Koppi Pad!
19:47Recover it here.
19:47You will be able to share more of yours !
