00:32Hello, everyone. This is Satori Wata from Nintendo.
00:36Although I'm usually the one who delivers new game information on Nintendo Direct from Nintendo's headquarters,
00:42this time, since we are at the Pokémon Company office in Roppongi, Tokyo,
00:46we've requested Mr. Ishihara to be the host of this Pokémon Direct.
00:54And today, we've also invited Mr. Masuda from Game Freak as well.
01:01This is Junichi Masuda from Game Freak. Thank you for having me.
01:07As the second Pokémon Direct, we'd like to deliver the latest information about Pokémon X and Y
01:14releasing on October 12th worldwide directly to you.
01:20Since the Japanese release of Pokémon Red and Green in 1996,
01:26things have changed a lot over the years.
01:32The first Pokémon titles were for this very large Game Boy.
01:41At that time, there really wasn't much of an Internet, let alone communication over wireless networks,
01:49so we used this link cable to connect.
01:57Looking at it now, it's huge, like an arcade machine.
02:03I haven't seen this cartridge in a long time.
02:06The cartridge looks huge after not seeing it for so long.
02:10Well, as I'm looking at the package, along with its operation manual and map,
02:17my eyes well up.
02:20He's bringing back memories.
02:24So, after the release of Pokémon Red and Blue,
02:31there was the yellow Pikachu version.
02:34Then, after a long wait, Pokémon Gold and Silver were released.
02:40And then Crystal.
02:41Oh, right, it was Crystal.
02:42So, Game Boy Advance arrived.
02:47And when we were working on remaking Pokémon Red and Green for Game Boy Advance,
02:53we were experimenting with a wireless adapter.
02:58So, I actually brought it to Mr. Ishihara,
03:01and asked if he would be interested in using it.
03:04I was able to make the same suggestion to Mr. Masuda soon after that as well.
03:09And that's when I realized how convenient the wireless connection would be.
03:14That's right.
03:15We were able to create a lot of ideas.
03:18It was really interesting to think about what we would be able to do without the cables.
03:24Then, when Nintendo DS came out,
03:26the wireless connection became standard on the hardware.
03:30and that's when Diamond and Pearl were released
03:33and where Internet connectivity was achieved at last.
03:38That's when I realized how far we had come in connecting to one another.
03:42Today, I see even more progress
03:44and we're trying to achieve something similar to continuous connectivity.
03:50From the beginning, Mr. Ishihara had always said,
03:55a signature of Pokémon is openness.
04:01In other words, as Mr. Ishihara has been saying,
04:05because you interact with others,
04:07Pokémon games are different from games that you play alone.
04:13Players were connected via three-foot-long cables at first.
04:17Then, with the wireless adapters,
04:19they were able to connect without a cable.
04:22With the addition of the Internet,
04:23they're now able to interact with people on the other side of the Earth.
04:28So, the range of communications has definitely become broader.
04:33So, as to how communication in games has changed,
04:38I'd like Mr. Masuda to talk about one more thing.
04:44Is that okay, Masuda-san?
04:47Sure.
04:51We're developing download-exclusive software for Nintendo 3DS
04:55that supports Pokémon X and Y called Pokémon Bank.
05:00If you use Pokémon Bank,
05:02you can put your Pokémon in a box that resides on the Internet
05:05and take them out as needed.
05:08In Pokémon X and Y, you can only store a limited number of Pokémon,
05:12but with Pokémon Bank, you can put Pokémon in 100 different boxes.
05:16That's 3,000 total Pokémon you can store in Pokémon Bank.
05:20Also, you can easily search for any Pokémon you need from Pokémon Bank
05:25with a variety of search options,
05:27so you don't need to worry about not being able to find what you're looking for
05:30even if you have many Pokémon stored there.
05:34For those who want to collect as many different kinds of Pokémon as possible,
05:38or someone who wants to train many Pokémon for battles or tournaments,
05:43Pokémon Bank is the perfect tool.
05:47Additionally, you can transfer Pokémon that you collected in Pokémon Black,
05:51Pokémon White, Pokémon Black 2 and Pokémon White 2 to Pokémon X and Y.
05:57For this, you use another application that works together with Pokémon Bank
06:02called PokéTransporter.
06:05When you use PokéTransporter with a Nintendo 3DS system
06:08and with Pokémon Black, Pokémon White, Pokémon Black 2 or Pokémon White 2 in the card slot,
06:15you can transfer Pokémon from your 3DS to your Pokémon Bank box on the Internet.
06:23Then, through Pokémon Bank, you can move your transferred Pokémon into Pokémon X and Pokémon Y.
06:33For everyone who's played the Pokémon series for a long time,
06:37I'm sure all the Pokémon that you have trained are very important to you.
06:43So I hope you can take them with you and make them come alive in Pokémon X and Pokémon Y.
06:53You can download PokéTransporter as an add-on after purchasing and downloading Pokémon Bank.
07:01We're currently developing both with the goal of making them easy and convenient for everyone to use.
07:09We'll release more information on the official Pokémon website as it becomes available, so please stay tuned.
07:22Optional services like Pokémon Bank and PokéTransporter will give you the option to keep your Pokémon,
07:31which were only stored on handheld systems in the past, correct?
07:39Yes, that's correct.
07:43For several years, we talked about a way Pokémon games could have a service that lets people put their Pokémon
07:51in the cloud
07:52and then take them out as needed.
07:59Our conversation certainly served as a vision for the Pokémon Bank and PokéTransporter.
08:06And now, it's becoming a reality.
08:10I think everyone has Pokémon that they put their hearts into training and eventually become stronger as their journey went
08:19on.
08:20In other words, the save data has the best memories for players.
08:26So, when you think about long-term relationships with our customers, we thought we should have a service that let
08:37customers store their Pokémon.
08:42I think we've talked about this for five years or so, and finally it's coming true.
08:55Actually, the other day, I had the opportunity to talk with Shoko Nakagawa.
09:02And, as everyone knows, she loves Pokémon.
09:07I read her book and was so surprised. She's so enthusiastic.
09:12Then, at the end of the interview, she told me that she wished I would create something like Pokémon Bank.
09:19She wanted her Pokémon that she trained to be securely stored and passed down to her kids and grandkids.
09:25Kids and grandkids?
09:26She wanted something like Pokémon Bank because she wanted her kids and grandkids to remember that their grandma fought battles
09:33using Charizard.
09:36At that time, I couldn't tell her about it.
09:39But now it's official. We are making Pokémon Bank.
09:45Mr. Masuda, did you agree with the idea of making such a service a reality?
09:52Well, I have also had the concept of Pokémon Bank for a long time.
09:59So, of course, I agreed.
10:05I wanted to collect all the Pokémon data and send it to a server using a mobile adapter in Pokémon
10:12Crystal.
10:13So, my idea expanded from that point on.
10:19Now, with the cloud that can store all that data, it's reliable and able to provide customers with a fun
10:26service that's different from just trading Pokémon.
10:33In past Pokémon games, we did release software that let players transfer Pokémon, such as Pokémon Box, Ruby and Sapphire
10:44for Nintendo GameCube, which let players store Pokémon from the Game Boy Advance Pokémon series.
10:51Also, My Pokémon Ranch, a WiiWare title, let players store Pokémon from the series released for Nintendo DS, Pokémon Diamond
11:02and Pearl.
11:06Pokémon Bank, a downloadable tool for the 3DS, is a paid service that will allow players to have secure and
11:17convenient access.
11:22Because this will be a long-term service that requires management and maintenance of the system to store Pokémon, as
11:30well as compatibility with future titles, there will be an annual fee.
11:39Pokémon Bank will be released on Nintendo eShop later this year.
11:48If there's anything else that's new to Pokémon X and Pokémon Y, could you share it with us, Mr. Masuda?
11:59Sure. In the past Pokémon games, the story began when the Pokémon professor let you choose one of three Pokémon.
12:10However, in Pokémon X and Y, your first partner Pokémon, Chespin, Fennekin, or Froakie, won't be given to you by
12:20the professor, but by your friend instead.
12:23Then you'll receive a different Pokémon from the professor later on.
12:27What you get from the professor is one of the partner Pokémon from the original Pokémon Red and Pokémon Blue,
12:36Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle.
12:38So you get either Chespin, Fennekin, or Froakie, the Pokémon X and Y starters,
12:44plus Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle to take with you on your journey.
12:51I'm sure there are a lot of you who made Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle evolve into Venusaur, Charizard, or Blastoise
12:58back then.
13:01In Pokémon X and Y, they can evolve even more with Mega Evolutions.
13:06Mega Venusaur, Mega Charizard, and Mega Blastoise.
13:15After a Pokémon transforms into its Mega Evolution, its appearance changes, it releases a secret power,
13:23and exerts power that's only possible when in Mega Evolution.
13:27There are even more secrets to Mega Evolution.
13:30The first is a black bracelet that a trainer wears called the Mega Ring.
13:37Mega Evolution occurs when the Mega Ring that the trainer wears and the Mega Stone that the Pokémon possesses connect
13:44with each other.
13:45In order for this to happen, the connection between the trainer and their Pokémon becomes very important.
13:53Mega Evolution is said to be the biggest secret of the Kalos region,
13:57where Pokémon X and Y take place.
14:01There are a lot of other Pokémon besides Venusaur, Charizard, and Blastoise that will have Mega Evolutions,
14:08such as Lucario and Absol.
14:13Players can unlock all the secrets by playing Pokémon X and Pokémon Y.
14:21It's pretty exciting to see Mega Evolutions of the first three Pokémon and have them go beyond their ultimate state.
14:31Yes, I hope everyone will feel the same.
14:34It must be really exhilarating for people who enjoyed Pokémon Red and Blue, don't you think?
14:40Yes, definitely.
14:43As a player, it's fun to imagine how each Pokémon will turn out with Mega Evolution.
14:50I want to see what happens to every single Pokémon.
14:53How they will all look as Mega Evolutions.
14:59If you think of Charizard as the ultimate form of the ultimate Pokémon, it will now go beyond that. That's
15:07interesting.
15:09Yeah. During a battle, I think there will be a moment when a player's feelings seem to actually go into
15:20the game and combine with their Pokémon.
15:22And that's when Mega Evolution happens.
15:28That was our hope while creating these games.
15:32And I believe we've done a good job of it.
15:36I'd like everyone to see and have fun with Mega Evolutions.
15:44Well, as a regular final segment of Pokémon Direct,
15:50I'd like to ask you to say something to our audience.
15:56Why don't you start, Mr. Ishihara?
16:00Sure.
16:02I have so much to say about Pokémon X and Pokémon Y,
16:07because I'm pretty emotionally attached to them.
16:12Pokémon X and Y will be released globally on October 12th in seven different languages,
16:18which means you can select any language among the seven.
16:23We've always dreamed that these games would be released around the world on the same day.
16:28And on October 12th, I'll be happy to see this dream finally come true.
16:34Also as a player, I've been with Pokémon for a long time,
16:38and I feel like Mega Evolutions are the expression of everything in the past.
16:43So I'd like everyone to experience Mega Evolutions together.
16:50How about you, Mr. Masuda?
16:52I know there were a lot of difficulties for my staff,
16:56because this was the first time we had a global simultaneous launch,
17:02and also we made 3D models of all of the Pokémon.
17:07However, the difficulties were converted into fun,
17:11and these games have a lot of it.
17:16When the games passed testing at Nintendo,
17:21I was in tears a little bit in front of my staff.
17:24My heart and soul are in these games that much.
17:31I'd be really happy for everyone to enjoy these games,
17:35because they are where my world of Pokémon and the world of Game Freak converge together.
17:42Thank you.
17:44I feel like the game has so much more depth in various aspects,
17:48and I like the fact that customers will have a lot of choices when they play.
17:53A player can enjoy playing with cute Pokémon thanks to Pokémon Ami,
17:59or master the new styles of battles
18:03and think about the best strategy around a brand new type of Pokémon.
18:08On the other hand,
18:10a player can also set a goal of collecting 3,000 Pokémon in the Pokémon bank and showing them off.
18:19There are so many ways to play,
18:21and this is the Pokémon game that has fun for everyone.
18:26I hope that it will be the game that everyone can have fun with.
18:31Thank you so much for being here today.
18:33Thank you.
18:37Today we delivered you Nintendo Direct in a little bit of a different manner.
18:40How was it?
18:42There's only one month left until we release Pokémon X and Pokémon Y to everyone in the world,
18:48so please hang on tight a little bit longer.
18:50I'm looking forward to it too.
18:53As you may also be aware,
18:55we have announced a special Pokémon X and Y themed Blue Nintendo 3DS XL system for Japan.
19:02Today, I'd also like to announce that this same special edition Blue system,
19:08as well as this special edition Red Nintendo 3DS XL system,
19:13will be released on the 27th of September in North America and Europe.
