04:25To prepare just for E3
04:26To show you as much as we can

04:29Let's go ahead and open up our eye droid
04:32And we see here our target area
04:34But before we charge in
04:35We should probably scout out the area
04:36So we'll go ahead and mark
04:37A vantage point on our map here
04:39That we can use to scout things out
04:44And yes, your horse will do this in the game
04:46From time to time
04:47But we'll just ignore that and move on
04:49Now as you know
04:50Phantom Pain is an open world game
04:52It's roughly 200 times the size of Ground Zeroes
04:54And we're just going to show you a small glimpse of that today
04:56To give you a taste of the gameplay
04:59It is a wide open world as you can see
05:01A lot of things to do
05:02A lot of places to explore
05:03It's also a living world populated by wildlife
05:05And up ahead you can see some sheep on the road here
05:08And the landscape is also dotted by human settlements
05:10As you can see up and to the right
05:21Alright, now you notice the background music has changed
05:23It's gotten a little tense
05:24That indicates danger nearby
05:25So let's go ahead and take a look with our binoculars
05:28And here we have a couple enemies
05:29So we'll go ahead and mark them
05:32Then we'll make our coach
05:34That said, if we're up on a horse like this
05:35It's easy to be spotted
05:36So we'll use one of Snake's new abilities

06:21Those guys are going to head back to Mother Base
06:24And it looks like we have a curious visitor here as well
06:25Perhaps he wants to go back to Mother Base too
06:27So let's go ahead and help him out here
06:32Alright, and he's down
06:33So let's go ahead and attach the Fulton
06:40And off he goes
06:42Alright, now we'll check our map
06:43And we see the container here
06:45That the guy was talking about
06:46So we'll check that out
06:47It's not too far out of our way
06:50Note that the guys we Fulton back there
06:51Will head back to Mother Base
06:52And become a part of your army
06:53And you can assign them to various
06:55Groups within Mother Base
06:56To do tasks for you
06:58And as for the sheep
06:58I'm sure we can figure something out
07:02Alright, so here we have the container
07:04And we see the guy here
07:05There's a guy guarding it
07:06So we'll approach carefully here
07:19Now we did mark our enemies
07:21So you can see him through objects
07:22Such as this wall
07:24And it doesn't look like he's planning to go anywhere
07:26Any time soon
07:26So we'll go ahead and lure him out
07:27And this is one of Snake's new abilities
07:29The knock is back in Phantom Pain
07:32You can now perform this
07:33Using your prosthetic limb
07:34Which means you don't have to be next to a wall
07:40With that said, if you are next to a wall
07:42You can perform some pretty brutal CQC
07:43Like so
07:45And peeking out from behind a wall
07:47And shooting enemies is now faster
07:49And smoother than it was in Ground Zeroes
07:51So we'll go ahead and get rid of these guys
07:57And see if we can now recover the container
08:06Alright, we gotta be sure to get off the container quickly there
08:08If we were on the container when it went up
08:10We actually would have been Fultoned along with it
08:12And gone back to Mother Base
08:13Which is a technique you may want to use from time to time
08:15But of course that does abort the mission
08:17So we don't want to do that for today's demonstration
08:19Alright, so we'll move on
08:21And you may have noticed also
08:22There was a weather report
08:23That came in over our eye droid
08:25Saying that there's a sandstorm nearby
08:26And if you look up at the sky
08:27You can see that it has gotten a little grey now
08:29And we see some sand kicking up here
08:35Sandstorm is just one example
08:37Of the dynamic weather that we have in Phantom Pain
08:39The weather will evolve throughout the day
08:42And during a sandstorm of course visibility is low
08:44Which means that enemies will have a hard time seeing you
08:46But in turn you also have a hard time seeing where you're going
08:49So you have to be careful as you navigate through the landscape
08:56Alright, there may be guys like this in hiding
08:58And we've gone ahead and taken him out
09:00Now you could Fulton this guy if you wanted to
09:02But we won't do that today
09:03Because of the sandstorm
09:05The Fulton is influenced by weather
09:07And during high wind conditions
09:09It can actually be low enough course
09:10And if that happens
09:12The guy you're Fultoning could end up dying
09:13So we don't want to do that
09:16As I mentioned visibility is low
09:17But since we marked our target
09:18We can see where we're heading
09:19So we'll just head towards the marker on screen
09:24Now our eye droid is telling us
09:25That the weather is clearing
09:26And the four guys we Fultoned earlier
09:27Have made it back to base
09:30But before we move on
09:31You'll notice there's something shining beneath this tree
09:33So let's go ahead and check it out
09:39Okay, so raw diamonds
09:40These raw diamonds are an example of raw materials
09:42That you can gather around the map
09:44These are scattered throughout the landscape
09:45And when you pick them up
09:46They get sent back to Mother Base
09:47And add to your GMP
09:48GMP being the currency in Phantom Pain
09:51Which you can use to upgrade your base
09:52And also develop new items and equipment
09:57Alright, so now we're at a vantage point
09:58That we set earlier
09:59And off in the distance
10:00You can see our target
10:01In yellow there
10:02So in there
10:03We should be able to get info
10:04Regarding Miller's whereabouts
10:05So let's go ahead and take a look
10:07Using our binoculars
10:09See the target here
10:11And there are some enemies
10:12So we'll go ahead and mark them
10:33Okay, so we've gone ahead and marked the enemies that we can see
10:35That said
10:36We don't know if there may be more enemies in hiding
10:38In buildings or around corners
10:40So let's call upon Mother Base
10:42To help us out here
10:43On Mother Base there's an intel unit
10:45That can scout things out for us
10:47And what you see in the background here
10:48Is actually Mother Base
10:49So all the guys we Fultoned earlier
10:50Get sent back here
10:51And if we take a look at our staff list
10:53You see that we have four new members added to the bottom here
10:55So we'll go ahead and assign one of these guys to our intel unit
11:02Note also that the UI is three dimensional
11:04So you can move it around like so by moving the controller

11:09Alright, so he's in the intel unit now
11:11And he'll scout out some info for us

11:17And there's his report
11:18Let's go ahead and take a look at our map
11:19Now you'll notice these red areas here
11:21These indicate anticipated enemy locations
11:22So we'll go ahead and mark those

11:31You see enemies entering these areas
11:33So we'll go ahead and mark them as well
11:52Okay, so we've gone ahead and marked all the enemies here
11:54And note that the base is well guarded
11:55So it might not be a good idea to sneak in at this time
11:58We could try, but it'd be very difficult
12:00So in this kind of situation
12:01It might actually be useful
12:02To wait until the guards change shifts
12:04And you could do that just by sitting here waiting for a very long time
12:07But we also have an item that comes in handy in situations like this
12:09And we call it the Phantom Cigar
12:11The Phantom Cigar is an e-cigar that snake can smoke to help pass the time
12:15You can start fast-forwarding time and stop whenever you like
12:18Keep in mind that it is an e-cigar
12:20So it produces no ash
12:21And the smoke you see on screen is actually a hologram
12:26Now looking up at the sky
12:27You see we have real-time cloud simulation
12:29All this being done in real-time
12:30And you see also the sun and moon do move through the sky realistically
12:34And shadows from vegetation is cast realistically on the ground
12:38All thanks to the power of the Fox Engine
12:43Now if we pan over to the right
12:45You can also see that the enemies we marked earlier are changing shifts
12:47Depending on the time of day
12:48And if you look at our map
12:50We see these blue triangles here
12:51Which indicate enemies who are sleeping
12:52So depending on the time of day
12:53If enemies are off their shift
12:55They may be sleeping
12:56And you can use that to your advantage as you plan your infiltration route
12:59All right, so we'll go ahead and stop here
13:01Again we can stop at any time
13:03And honestly it probably will be best to sneak in during night
13:06So that you have darkness
13:08To provide cover
13:09But today we want to make sure you see what's going on
13:10So we'll go in during the day
13:11And to help us out we'll go ahead and place some markers here
13:16Now these markers will serve as waypoints as we sneak through the base
13:19And make sure we don't get lost on our way to the target
13:26Okay, so we've gone ahead and set our infiltration route
13:28That said it is broad daylight
13:30So it'll be hard to sneak through the base at this point in time
13:32So let's go ahead and once again call upon Mother Base for some help
13:34In Mother Base you have an R&D unit
13:37And these guys can help you up
13:38By developing new types of items and equipment
13:40So for today let's go ahead and have them develop the ultimate in stealth technology
13:44Which as every Metal Gear fan knows is the cardboard box
13:47So we'll go ahead and place that order
13:50And have it drop to our location
14:00There it is
14:09And we'll go ahead and open up this box
14:16And now we have our customized special edition Diamond Dogs box
14:21We're ready to go
14:23So we'll go ahead and head down the slope here
14:25Keep in mind that this is just one possible approach
14:28Phantom Pain is an open world game
14:29Meaning you can approach targets from any angle, any direction
14:32It's just one possibility that we're showing you here today
14:37Alright and as we make our way out here to the open
14:39Let's go ahead and try out our new cardboard box
14:42Alright now players who have played Metal Gear before
14:44Are obviously familiar with the cardboard box
14:46But it has been upgraded for Phantom Pain with some new abilities
14:48Such as
14:50The ability to pop up
14:51Take guys out
14:52And quickly duck back into the box
14:56And you can now do all of this without having to equip and unequip the box
14:59You can also use the Fulton from within the box
15:06And it looks like we have another enemy behind us
15:08So let's go ahead and sneak up on this guy
15:16Hold him up
15:20And send him on his way
15:27Alright and up ahead we see a guy who could be a problem
15:31We could trank him
15:32But let's try something different
15:33In Mother Base we have a support unit
15:35That can provide supply drops
15:37Supply drops are useful for providing items
15:39And ammunition
15:40But you can also use them in some pretty creative ways
15:43And we'll show you one example of that here
15:45If you call a supply drop right onto an enemy location
15:47You can do this, so let's see what happens
15:56Okay, so we knocked the guy out
15:57And got some ammo
15:58Two birds with one stone
15:59Let's go ahead and collect that
16:09Move on
16:36Okay, we hit our next marker
16:38And with that said
16:39Up ahead it looks like the way is pretty well guarded
16:42So let's go ahead and take a detour through this building
16:43Sneak around with that guy
16:49And it looks like we've stumbled upon a guard here
16:51Who's just coming off of his shift
16:53Going to sleep
16:54So let's go ahead and use that to our advantage
16:56There's no need for us to engage him
16:57As long as we're quiet
16:59And proceed carefully here
17:00He shouldn't wake up and he's no threat to us
17:02We'll slowly make our way to the door
17:12We've got some CQC to take this guy out
17:19And now that we're back in the open again
17:20Let's go ahead and put our box back on
17:28Alright, looks like someone may have noticed our box moving
17:31Which is not a good thing
17:32Obviously that's a bit suspicious
17:33So he'll probably check it out
17:35But we do have something in TPP that can help you in this situation
17:37You can actually jump out the side of the box
17:39Like so
17:40And this is actually a very useful technique
17:42Because as long as the enemy does not see you jumping out of the box
17:45He will come to investigate
17:46And you can actually use the box as a decoy
17:48As you sneak around the side of the building here
17:51Now previously we showed you how you can use the Fulton system
17:54To Fulton people as well as containers
17:56You can also use the Fulton to Fulton vehicles
17:58So let's go ahead and recover this vehicle here
18:00From other base
18:06That said, you do need to be careful
18:08Because you never know if there are guys hiding behind objects
18:14So let's get rid of this guy
18:17And make sure the coast is clear
18:23Alright, we got one more guy here
18:25So let's go ahead and hide

18:30And the dumpster is just one example
18:32Of various objects that are scattered around the stage
18:34That you can use to hide
18:40And also as you can see, once enemies are close
18:42You can also use a specialized form of CQC
18:44To quickly take them out

18:52Alright, we've hit our next marker now
18:53So we'll go ahead and proceed forward
19:04And that yellow marker there
19:05On the second floor of the building is our target
19:07We'll make our way there carefully
19:09Be careful not to be spotted
19:18And there's a guy here
19:19So we'll keep an eye on him as we make our way
19:21Oh, and somebody to our right

19:24So let's take cover down here in the ditch
19:26And lay low for a bit

22:23So now all we need to do is escape from the base

24:47That said, we do have something new in store for you right after this
24:51And this is the first time we're gonna be showing this section off
24:53It's actually brand new for E3 2014
24:57So let's go ahead and take a look
24:59Up until this point, we've fultoned people, sent them back to Mother Base
25:02Also if you've played Peace Walker
25:04You're familiar with the Mother Base system
25:06But in Phantom Pain, Mother Base is actually a physical location that you can visit
25:10And that's what you see on the screen right here
25:11So this Mother Base is an example of Mother Base that's been built up quite a bit
25:15When you first start out, Mother Base is just a small platform
25:18And you slowly build it up as you gather resources and build new platforms
25:22The cool thing about Mother Base is that everyone's Mother Base will be unique
25:24Because depending on how you decide to spend your resources
25:29The shape and size of Mother Base will vary
25:32So gathering resources, building up your Mother Base
25:34And showing off to your friends is part of the fun of Phantom Pain
25:37We hope you look forward to that
25:42Alright, so this big platform you see here is the primary platform in our base
25:46So we'll go ahead and make our approach
25:49And we can now actually disembark from the helicopter
25:52And give you a personalized tour of Mother Base
25:55You see your men do salute you as you approach
25:58You are, of course, their commander
25:59You are a big boss
26:00These are your men
26:01Your diamond dogs
26:04And this is your base
26:05So let's take a moment to take it all in
26:08Just get a sense of the scale of it all
26:13And just remember that you, the player, will be creating all of this

26:25Alright, we see our friends, the sheep, as well as Jackie

27:03Which will help raise your ability as well as theirs

27:19This is an example of artillery that you can actually Fulton from the field
27:22So while you're out on your mission
27:23You can actually Fulton artillery and equipment like this
27:26Bring it back to Mother Base
27:26And install it here as a part of your defenses
27:29Likewise, you see here the container that we Fultoned earlier
27:32Has made it back to Mother Base safely
27:36And the vehicle as well
27:40So all these things that you Fulton
27:41Whether it be personnel, vehicles or resources
27:44Get sent back to Mother Base
27:45And resources will add to your GMP
27:47Which you can use to upgrade Mother Base
27:49And expand it by building new platforms
27:51So there's a platform currently under construction
27:53So this will be available in the near future
27:56And another thing you can spend your GMP on
27:58Is upgrading your security
27:59And this UAV here is one example of that
28:01So these guys will keep your base safe
28:03While you're out on your missions
28:06Alright, and we see here
28:07A familiar face
28:09So Ocelot, saying hi
28:13So unique characters such as Ocelot
28:14Will also be scattered around Mother Base
28:16And you can actually interact with them as well
28:20Now it's starting to rain
28:21Once again, this is an example of the dynamic weather
28:23In Phantom Pain
28:25And the weather will change not only during your missions
28:26But also while you're back at Mother Base
28:36Alright, now something's going on

28:43And people are running off to combat positions

29:14And head into battle
29:17So as you can gather from the alarm
29:20Your base in the Phantom Pain can be attacked
29:22So Mother Base does not only provide support to you
29:24While you're in the field
29:25But all of the allies and enemies that you make
29:29While you're in your missions or online
29:30Will also come back and affect you here at Mother Base
29:32And it's all one and just cycled in the Phantom Pain
