00:14When we first found out about PlayStation 4 and the features of the platform, we were really pleasantly surprised that
00:20they completely synced up with what we had in mind for Drive Club.
00:22It was almost a perfect storm, if you like.
00:24We had this desire to return back to realistic racing, we had this new hardware platform.
00:30It was just nice to finally align with both the platform and our own desires as a studio and try
00:35and bring that game to life.
00:37One of the things that we really liked was this idea that this was for an integrated, social generation of
00:45gamer who are now used to immediacy, connectivity and an untethered relationship with their video games where they are in
00:53touch with those game worlds.
00:54When they're on the bus, when they're at work, 24-7.
00:58We've taken everything that we've seen from the massive rise of social networks since the last console cycle and really
01:06that's become a core pillar of what PlayStation 4 is all about.
01:10So, you know, Drive Club really works on that level better than anything else you've ever played.
01:15We wanted to create a community, a genuine living, breathing community.
01:20So when it came to looking at how we tackle that from a Drive Club perspective, you know, what did
01:24community mean to us?
01:26It meant that you had to have the ability for players to race both competitively but also collaboratively.
01:32And if they're going to collaborate, they've got to be together in a club.
01:34You know, they have to be, they have to be a team of racers.
01:37Within Drive Club, there will be a range of social connections.
01:40So you'll immediately be able to see all of your PlayStation Network friends.
01:45But then you'll also be able to see all of your friends and their connections with inside the game.
01:49So you'll be able to see how your friends are connected to other people.
01:53It will essentially make it very easy using the social connection feature to be able to find the perfect club
01:58for yourself.
01:58What we want to achieve with Drive Club is basically a game which transcends the standard racing experience.
02:05We want to make it so that it's motivated and driven by the community itself.
02:09So it's very much a case of players getting involved, creating their own events and actually building a community around
02:19the tools that we offer them.
02:21So at the core of Drive Club, you have the ability to, anything that you do in the game, any
02:25time that you set, any score that you set,
02:27you can bundle that up as a challenge and then send it to friends, club mates, even complete strangers.
02:33You know, you can pass this data on to them and say, look what I did. I dare you to
02:37beat it.
02:38Challenges are not just to send and forget. Basically, essentially you're put into a leaderboard with those people.
02:44And so for the set duration of the time of the challenge, you can compete to sort of better yourself.
02:48In addition, once the challenge has been sent out, if people like that challenge, they can start competing in it
02:53or even forward it on to their friends.
02:55And so there's an opportunity for those challenges to go viral.
02:58One of the key ways the PlayStation 4 really enhances the multiplayer experience in Drive Club is the fact that
03:07every single section of every one of our tracks,
03:10our real world kind of breathtaking beautiful vistas, has data that can be turned into challenges.
03:18For the best times, the best drift settings, the best 0-60 records on every straight, on every bend, on
03:26every turn,
03:27every piece of camber, every surface type has data that can be turned into challenges which can then be sent
03:35to others.
03:35That's only achievable on this console with this brilliant new emphasis on connected gameplay.
03:42Drive Club isn't a professional racing series. This isn't Formula One or IndyCar or anything like that.
03:47This is just a bunch of people that love cars, that love racing, that want to compete together, collaborate together,
03:53that just want to turn up to a location and just put their ties on the asphalt, you know?
03:56We want to make sure that, you know, irrespective of your level of skill, whether you're a hardcore racer or
04:02just a casual racer,
04:04that you can pick up and play, but it has those layers of depth inside there.
04:08So if you are a skilled player, you can shave off those tenths of a second per lap.
04:13But if you are a casual player, you can pick it up and play and still post a good lap
04:17time.
04:18We want people to be able to pick up a car and go, this is fun, I can tell the
04:21difference between that car and get round this corner,
04:22look at me drift, isn't it brilliant? You know, we've just expanded the model to the point where it's easy
04:30access but difficult to master.
04:32It's very much a case of everything that we do in this game is going to make the player feel
04:37cool.
04:38We want to actually make people understand the fact that this isn't a hardcore racer.
04:44It's not a simulation in any way, shape or form. It's about having fun in cars and very fast roads.
04:51And of course, you know, being able to actually send out that information and buy cool videos, screenshots,
04:58and even sharing it to things like Ustream and the like is absolutely integral to that.
05:04You know, we want people to be viewing the information that we're sending out from every single player
05:10so that they understand that this is a broad community and absolutely the best racing experience
05:15that they're going to have on the next generation console.
05:21We will see you soon.
