00:15Hi guys, my name is Martin Bruscard, I'm the lead designer on Dreamfall Chapters
00:18And today we're super happy to be able to show you a tiny
00:23Glimpse of our prototype
00:25A couple of days ago we released a screenshot
00:28And today we can show you guys that it's not just a pretty picture that we painted
00:32It's real and it's explorable and we're gonna take a look at it now
00:59In Dreamfall Chapters we'll have lots of different locations that will look and feel very different
01:06Each of these areas are fully explorable, there's tons of interesting things that the players
01:12can explore
01:12There will be areas to investigate, there will be people to talk to, there will be riddles,
01:18There will be puzzles and everything is connected through the story
01:22that infuses everything
01:24Kind of like a red thread
01:32We want the players to dive into this rich and wonderful world
01:37And experience the beauty of it
01:40And we want the interface to support the story
01:45So we came up with this hybrid that allows for the freedom of movement
01:49But also a good old traditional point and click
01:52So the players can get really into the fine details of things
01:56So we've been talking about this hybrid interface that we have
02:01Can you tell us a little bit about how it works?
02:03Yeah, so what we really wanted to communicate here is
02:08Just to have the the simplicity and the tactile feel of a good old-fashioned point and click interface
02:18But at the same time we want to be able to set the player loose in the world
02:23And explore his environment in full 3D
02:26To look around, to stop and look at all the little details that we've left in
02:34Small objects around all over the world
02:38And to, you know, just stop and smile the flowers
02:41Yeah, I really love the way it feels so naturally
02:46There are some games that you run around and you have a visible cone of interaction
02:52But here that cone is gone, but you still feel
02:56That it's sort of pointing exactly to what you want to grab
03:00You know, and I really like that it feels very natural and intuitive
03:04Yeah, because we didn't want to go that heavy on the on the UI, you know
03:08We just wanted to we wanted we didn't want to put a layer in between you and the experience of
03:14the game
03:15We just wanted to put a very thin it's just it's just there to help
03:19You know guide you to things that you can that you can look at it and that you can interact
03:24with in the game
03:25And when when you're not doing that it just fades away to the sides
03:29Yeah, definitely like UI shouldn't get in the way for a good experience
03:34And so so maybe you can talk a bit how to to bring up this contextual wheel
03:40Yeah, so so what we have now is in it doesn't matter if you're if you're looking around freely or
03:47if you're if you're looking at each object
03:50Individually on the screen mousing of each object on the screen you just
03:55With a quick click you can have a you can see all the
03:58All the interactions that's available to you
04:02And select that and you're off to go
04:05Exactly, I think that works really really well
04:09I have to say but this scene is what I love about the adventure games when you just you're walking
04:14around in the forest exploring and boom
04:16There's a house there. What has what's happened here?
04:19What's going on?
04:20And then you can just sort of dive into that then and and dig a bit like what's going on?
04:24Yeah, and there's just a little hint a visible hint on screen that tells you hey, there's something interesting here
04:30Maybe I want to have a look. Yeah, and what can I do with this?
04:33Oh wait, I can do this
04:35Yeah, exactly. I I love that
04:38Whenever you want some more more story the players should be able to to get that story and to be
04:45allowed to be curious
04:47And I think we've we've had a really nice balance here because we've we've allowed you to
04:53To explore quite freely and to you know
04:55You can look around in in full 3d in your environment, but we still kept the simplicity
05:00I mean you can even you can play the game with with just your mouse you can drive the whole
05:04experience through that
05:06And you can
05:09Move your cursor over things and just
05:11Get that tactile feel of
05:14Interacting with the objects individually
05:16Yeah, exactly with a click of a button you're into point and click investigation good old-fashioned
05:22That people love I think that works really really well
05:28Dreamfall chapters is an adventure game for the pc that focuses heavily on story interesting characters
05:37Beautiful location and it takes the player on this epic journey across two worlds one fantasy and one cyberpunk
05:46We're on kickstarter right now
05:48And I hope you guys will support us and I hope you enjoyed what we had today
