00:14My character is the comic relief in the game.
00:17Sir Cadwell, he's a kind of Don Quixote character.
00:22He loves battle.
00:24He loves to go on a quest
00:26and to try and help helpless maidens and all that kind of thing.
00:31And he loves fighting, but he never seems to be the slightest bit scared about it.
00:34He regards it as a great game.
00:36And if he is wounded, then he's incredibly brave about it.
00:39In a British sort of way.
00:41This is the second worst...
00:43No, no, no, this is pretty much the worst thing.
00:53One fine day in the middle of the night,
00:57two dead kings got up to fight.
01:00Back to back they faced each other, drew their bows,
01:04and stabbed themselves.
01:08I have the honest feeling we've discussed this before.
01:12Or did I already mention that?
01:13No matter.
01:14I am Sir Cadwell, the Undaunted,
01:17Knight of the Court of Cold Harbor,
01:19Champion of Chivalry, Defender of the Defenseless,
01:22Shepherd to the Soul Shribbon.
01:24Well, this has my knickers in a twist.
01:27We have a perfectly fine army, but what good is it,
01:29sitting around this side of the chasm, twiddling its collective thumbs?
01:32It's rather embarrassing, if truth be told.
01:36I always thought it would be wonderful to be a great archer.
01:40I think I grew up on Robin Hood and westerns,
01:43where sort of people fired guns or arrows very, very accurately.
01:47And that always appealed to me.
01:49But if you wanted to be a bowman in the British Army in 1350,
01:54for example, in the Battle of Crecy,
01:55you had to start very, very young,
01:57because you had to develop the most extraordinary musculature.
02:00I like it when my character, Sir Cadwell, gets rather vague or confused.
02:06I like it when he says,
02:07you've been asked, tell me about yourself, Cadwell.
02:09He says, I have the oddest feeling we've discussed this before.
02:13Or did I already mention that?
02:15Hmm. Well, no matter.
02:16I like that kind of vagueness.
02:18I like playing that.
02:21Based on my experience with The Elder Scrolls Online,
02:24I would definitely do another video game,
02:25because I had a really good laugh.
02:27It was really fun.
02:28And I'm interested to see,
02:30not that I'm very good at playing video games,
02:32I feel like I would only sort of get to the first level
02:34and never see the stuff I've done.
02:37But it was really fun.
02:39I definitely do again.
02:40I like being in the dark.
02:44I voice Queen Irene in this.
02:48And she is a queen.
02:52So she's quite tough and uncompromising,
02:55but then seems to have a softer side and a humorous side.
03:01And I've enjoyed all of that stuff.
03:03But I did quite like when I had to talk to somebody who turned into a cat.
03:09But I was a man.
03:11I've been a man as her twice.
03:14And that was quite fun.
03:16I wasn't expecting to have to do that.
03:18So it was nice.
03:21Outright traitors like Norian we end, no question.
03:24The problem is that traitors like Norian are only fanning the flame.
03:28If I can't win over my people,
03:30the Heritance will be dealing with me instead of the other way around.
03:34Your king needs to stop talking out of the side of his mouth.
03:37He has a lot of Dominion blood on his hands.
03:40We're not going to easily forget that,
03:42and we're certainly not going to fight by his side in Cold Harbor.
03:45I think they will find my character is very fair and a very good leader,
03:54very imposing and a great warrior,
03:59but also has a kind of softer side and a very good heart
04:05and will be helpful to the player.
04:09I think my character is a very imposing leader
04:14and a great female, strong role model.
04:20But she's also somebody who has a lot of hardship
04:25and tragedy and betrayal going on during the video game.
04:29And I think that gives her quite a sort of sympathetic side
04:34that I think people will respond to.
04:39Video games have got better.
04:41They're much better now, like The Elder Scrolls is the best way in going.
04:44I think mine's the best part,
04:46but I hope you all love it.
04:48I'm sure you will.
04:50I'll take away the love and understanding and care,
04:53and I hope they take that with them.
04:54Thank you.
04:56The character I'm playing is blind,
04:58and so I put my glasses on and I act blind.
05:02If you look very carefully, you'll see my eyes are closed,
05:05which is very clever for me to do that.
05:07And then I flick them open now and again, just a little tiny bit,
05:11to read the lines.
05:12The Elder Scrolls online marks the second video game.
05:16Things like that, I have to read them out loud.
05:18So, how on earth they expect me to be a blind man and also speak a lot,
05:23leaves me, you know, angry.
05:25I get very angry about it.
05:28Blind.
05:29Lyrus, are you alright?
05:32Lyrus, are you alright?
05:35How did you like that?
05:36Pretty good.
05:37Right.
05:40Indeed.
05:41But let us not get ahead of ourselves without an understanding of where we are bound.
05:46The Redguard Swordmaster.
05:49Saesahan.
05:50Leader of the Imperial Dragon Guard.
05:53In truth, I feared you'd kill me where I stood if you knew who I was.
05:58You certainly wouldn't have allied with us so readily.
06:01I caused this, all of this.
06:04If Molag Bal destroys this world, the blame will be mine and mine alone.
06:09Well, I'd like to play an elf.
06:11That's the part I'd be really good at.
06:13Elves are quite short.
06:14I'm not short.
06:15I'm a bit overweight and not very tall.
06:17But an elf would appeal to me.
06:19They're funny.
06:20They're interesting.
06:21They climb trees.
06:22So an elf would be my sort of thing.
06:25I'd be an elf.
06:27Also, they have the added advantage, elves, of sitting down a lot.
06:32I love sitting down.
06:33If you've played a king or some duke or something, you have to keep walking around.
06:38I don't want to do that.
06:39So I'd be happy to play an elf.
06:41I like The Elder Scrolls.
06:42I'm tailor-made for the part.
06:44And I'm used to playing blind men.
06:47In fact, I always play blind men.
06:50I enjoy it very much.
06:54The character that I play in The Elder Scrolls is called Abner Tharn.
06:58The best way of describing would be supremely confident and arrogant.
07:03A man who clearly has a very, very high opinion of himself.
07:09And a very low opinion of others, which is even more crucial.
07:14There's this ongoing sense of him being very sarcastic and very aloof.
07:20He doesn't quite believe that anyone can be as powerful or as strong or as decisive as he is.
07:28Or as they need to be.
07:30So there's always this little tension of trying to...
07:34You know, he's very sparing with his compliments, but very generous with his sarcasm.
07:41I know more about the Daedra than any man or myrrh alive.
07:45For good or ill, my family has always kept ties with the forces of oblivion.
07:49And this much I know.
07:51One cannot kill a Daedric Prince.
07:55But we have the Amulet of Kings.
07:58So, we're to stumble blindly into the catacombs beneath a crumbling ruin abandoned for an age.
08:05Lovely.
08:06That bearded idiot swordmaster will lead us straight into a trap, no doubt.
08:12It's my small-minded nephew, Jabard.
08:14The lad was petty and cruel for the enjoyment of it.
08:18I always suspected he'd meet an untimely end.
08:20Leave him to his fate.
08:22It's kinder than he deserves.
08:25And then what?
08:26I've no idea what will happen to you.
08:29Apotheosis?
08:30Disintegration?
08:31Too many unknowns and not enough information.
08:34But if you defeat Molag Baal and survive, your soul and the soul of every other surviving vestige should be
08:42restored.
08:43The Amulet of Kings is a relic of Akatosh, the Dragon God of Time.
08:48His powers embody the qualities of perseverance and invincibility, while promoting the virtues of duty, service and obedience.
08:56Make of that what you will.
08:58One of the big elements in the character is that he's very, very pompous and arrogant.
09:06But he's actually very funny.
09:07And his sarcasm and his dismissal of other people can be really, I mean there's one line where he's talking
09:18to Lyris.
09:20And he says something like, you know, in a very kind of understanding and supportive and sympathetic way, he says,
09:28you know, something like, I understand this must be very hard for you, Lyris, but don't be an idiot.
09:38Something like that.
09:39And it's just a, I mean I'm paraphrasing because I can't remember the line now.
09:44But it's, it was the, it was the turn of phrase.
09:48Because it started off so kind of like, like a, he was just about to give her a hug.
09:52And then it turns into this kind of like wonderful slap in the face.
09:56And it was that, that, that way of just turning within a line, turning everything around like that was very
10:02indicative of him.
10:03But that line in particular, you know, you know, it must be very, as hard as it might be for
10:08you, Lyris, don't be an idiot.
10:09It kind of made me laugh.
10:14The character I play in The Elder Scrolls Online is King Emmerich.
10:19And he's a good guy, generally speaking.
10:22What's cool about him is that he's not un-complex.
10:26He does have his bad days and he gets into all kinds of moods.
10:32But he's generally in the, in the context, within the context of The Elder Scrolls Online, he is a good
10:37force in the world.
10:39He has some funny lines.
10:41He's not just some king guy.
10:43He also is a human being and he has some, uh, he has some funky asides to make.
10:48And he is, uh, he is the king of all ribbons spire.
10:53And he's a pretty cool guy, in my view.
10:56I'm not just defending my character.
10:58I actually believe that.
11:00He's very, very, he's a serious hands-on king.
11:03He doesn't hang around in throne rooms telling other people how to fight battles.
11:07He's out there.
11:08He's on horseback.
11:08He's getting bloody.
11:10He doesn't fool around.
11:11And he's never lost a battle, as far as I know, which just right there is pretty cool.
11:16I will not wager the future of my people on the word of a snow barbarian and an adolescent female.
11:24I fear for Tamriel's future if either of you were to sit upon the ruby throne.
11:29This crown.
11:31One day, I will throw this crown in a lake.
11:34This crown was probably great for my grandfather.
11:37This crown looks tawdry.
11:40Why can't they shine it up now and again?
11:43Everyone's so scared to touch the crown.
11:46They could at least clean it.
11:48This crown makes me look stupid.
11:51It sits on my ears.
11:53My ears are not my best feature.
11:56Can't they tighten this crown slightly?
11:59I'm blinded by it if I'm riding on a horse.
12:03This crown is an embarrassment to the kingdom.
12:06He has many, many wonderful lines.
12:08I like his epithets perhaps best.
12:11I loved saying, you know, don't go easy on me.
12:15I'm being honest, I got a kick out of saying, on Mara's bosom.
12:20I like it when things get daft.
12:22It means you're not being a nuisance in the world.
12:25It means you're doing something actually in a kind of, you know, funky way that's useful.
12:31And you're not, you know, invading Iraq.
12:34So I'm hoping they come to me with a warm feeling.
12:38And I hope that by the time they leave, they feel a whole lot better.
12:41I say encouraging stuff.
12:43I point them in the right direction.
12:45I don't sell them any nonsense.
12:47And I'm generally on the player's side.
12:50And it's also part of my job.
12:52I have to say that if they do anything wrong in the game, I get to tell them.
12:57But then that's, it's tough being a king.
12:59And the crown doesn't fit.
13:02Because my great, great, great, great, great grandfather apparently must have had a very small head.
13:07So I get a lot of crown aches.
13:09I like the variety of things you have to achieve vocally.
13:13I like the fact that it's concentrated into a relatively short period of time.
13:17I've had a very pleasant time working with the people here.
13:20I'm in Paris, I have to come clean.
13:22And it's a beautiful summer's day.
13:28The character that I'm playing in The Elder Scrolls, or as we like to say, The Scrolls.
13:35Those of them as a part of the family, you know.
13:40Well, of course I am playing an arch villain.
13:44But as I always say, you know, a piece is only as good, often, as its villain.
13:51And I think this one is particularly nasty, actually.
13:55I think he's going to beat up the player of the game quite nicely.
14:01And by the way, he's not really very polite, which I do like about him.
14:06I'm from the north of England, or rather gruff in the north of England, and I like that.
14:11No nonsense right to it.
14:15But does he have a heart?
14:17Of course he does, yes.
14:20I mean, a villain without a heart would be a sad, sad thing.
14:24So we try and give him some vulnerability.
14:27I don't quite know what it is, but...
14:29And do I enjoy playing them? Of course I do.
14:32I mean, I'd much rather play the heavy than the hero.
14:37Submit to the will of Molag Bal.
14:40Fall to your knees and worship me.
14:45I don't need to kill you.
14:47I just need you to wish you were dead.
14:51I grow weary of your games, Meridia.
14:55I grow weary of your games, Meridia.
14:59I am god of oblivion.
15:01You are less than nothing.
15:03I will have you, Vestige.
15:06Pathetic prophecies and trinkets of holy powers are fleeting.
15:10I am immortal.
15:12I am undying.
15:14Your world will drown in blood.
15:18All of Nirn shall be mine.
15:22I would hope, though, that people will go,
15:26wow, that guy was pretty cool.
15:29I don't want them to emulate what he's doing or saying even,
15:34but just, you know, he's got to be this threat.
15:38And, you know, I hope there's a little bit of humor there somewhere.
15:43He's one of those characters.
15:45He's really a beloved and sweet guy.
15:49Underneath all that, your black heart pleases me, mortal.
15:55I'll leave you with a gift.
15:58And one day, you will repay me with your soul.
16:04Yes, well, the character that I'm playing in The Elder Scrolls
16:08is Molag Bal, or Little Mo for short.
16:12He's actually, um, how can I put this?
16:16He's a, I hate to use this word, but it's the only word
16:20that really describes him, a demon god.
16:23I think that, actually, video games, um,
16:28they lend themselves beautifully for movies, don't they?
16:33There's a lot of them about.
16:34I'm Malcolm McDowell,
16:36and we've been working on The Elder Scrolls,
16:39and I'm playing the part of Little Mo.
16:43He's an evil bastard.
16:46Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha.
17:01The Elder Scrolls
17:01The Elder Scrolls

17:05Grazie a tutti.
