00:28The Kill Cam is a key part of Sniper Elite.
00:31We introduced it in the first game as a way to track the bullet in slow motion from the
00:36player's gun all the way to their target.
00:39For Sniper Elite V2 we introduced a whole new level of detail to it where we actually
00:44tracked the bullet through their targets in X-ray and watching as it smashed bones that
00:49it came in contact with.
00:51And for Sniper Elite 3 we want to take it a step further to really take advantage of
00:56the power of the new consoles and what we can do on PC.
01:03So the X-ray Kill Cam is triggered if the player gets a really good score and that's
01:06based on whether the enemy is moving, the range of the shot and also the area that the player
01:11is aiming for on that target.
01:15So within the Sniper Elite franchise the Kill Cam really gives us a chance to experiment
01:19a bit more with the sound while the rest of the game stays relatively realistic.
01:22We took the sounds of cars and aeroplanes and other high speed vehicles, laid them on top
01:27of each other, stretched them out, played with the pitch, really kind of conveyed that feeling
01:31of speed and the fact that you were travelling with that bullet.
01:37The Kill Cam is kind of like, think of it as layers of an onion and you're peeling those
01:41away and the X-ray is all about the bullet travelling through.
01:44On V2 there were three layers, there was the outer skin of the character, there were the
01:49bones and then there was the actual organs inside that.
01:52We've added an extra two layers to that now.
01:54There's a full muscle tissue layer and also a circulatory system and the layers that were
02:00there have been comprehensively reworked.
02:02So there's a difference with when the bullet hits the bone over the Kill Cam's we had
02:07in V2.
02:08There we had sort of predefined areas where the bone could snap because we had to set
02:12it up all beforehand.
02:13But now the bone can actually fracture dynamically so the fracture will occur in the bone at
02:18the exact point of impact with the bullet.
02:21We now actually have 3D mesh particles as well so there are blobs of blood which will come
02:25out which again instead of just being little 2D images which are laid onto the screen, these
02:29are actually three dimensional and give more shape.
02:32So the whole thing sort of just comes together to give you a greater sense of the bone shattering
02:36in a more realistic manner.
02:39One of the key reasons for going into all that detail is to illustrate why people were
02:45so frightened of snipers in World War II or indeed in any conflict.
02:48The damage done by a sniper bullet is considerable and so we're not flinching away from that and
02:54we're showing to the player what it is that they are doing, playing as Carl Fairburn himself,
03:01the elite sniper, why the enemy is so frightened of him.
03:07So obviously the money shot of the Kill Cam is that final bullet impact and we really wanted
03:11to get across the kind of breaking of bones and the splitting of organs and that tearing
03:15of muscle and sinew.
03:16So we took a little trip down our local grocers and bought all manners of fruit and veg and
03:21spent a few days snapping them and twisting them, breaking them, squishing them between
03:24our hands to get the squelchy and cracky noises that we needed for all of the bones and organs.
03:41In addition to the extra detail we've added into the human targets for the Kill Cam, we're
03:47also, this time around, introducing vehicle Kill Cams so some of the vehicle adversaries
03:52you come across in the game, like half tracks and trucks and tanks, we're actually showing
03:59those in intricate detail as the bullet passes into them and you take them out with a well-placed
04:03shot.
04:12We're really pleased with the way everything's coming together and we're looking forward to
04:15showing you more of what we've been talking about in the run-up to the release of the game.
04:29Thank you.
04:29We're looking forward to seeing how you'd be doing this.
