00:00As you say, this is the second round in voting.
00:02It's important to point out that 33,000 towns across France
00:06have known who their mayor is going to be since last week's vote.
00:10However, the city's still at stake.
00:13There are just under 1,600 of them, and a lot of them are large cities.
00:17It's big fish. We're talking places like Paris, Lyon and Marseille,
00:20all three of which are currently run by left-wing administrations.
00:23But the power dynamics could really shift today if a new result comes in.
00:27Of course, in the capital, you have the socialist mayor
00:31who is not seeking further office and vying for her succession.
00:34You have a socialist, a left-wing France unbounded candidate,
00:37as well as a right-wing candidate.
00:39In Lyon, it's a two-horse race between the incumbent Green
00:43and a right-wing challenger, whereas in Marseille,
00:46you have the left, the right and the far-right all head-to-head.
00:51And, of course, between these two rounds of voting,
00:54there's been a huge amount of politicking between parties,
00:57a huge amount of negotiation.
00:59And you've seen lists disappear and other lists join forces
01:03as different candidates decide to make deals
01:06to avoid dividing the vote in different parts of the political spectrum,
01:10if you will, and looking to join forces
01:12to preclude what they consider the worst-case scenarios.
01:16It, of course, remains to be seen whether this sort of collaboration
01:20between parties will be rewarded by voters and to what extent.
