00:04Tommas Gopp
00:05Hey guys, my name's Tomas Gopp, I'm an executive producer at CI Games working on Lords of the Fallen,
00:10our action RPG that's been in development since 2011 and it's going to come out this year on PlayStation 4,
00:17Xbox One and PC.
00:21Let's roam a little bit around Old Monastery and in the meantime I'll tell you about some crucial ideas that
00:27drive the development of our game.
00:30The first few combat encounters you will see here focus around faster and agile opponents so I'll try to use
00:37lighter gear and maneuver right,
00:40for example trying to get the perfect positioning and perfect timing for an effective critical strike.
00:45It requires a little bit of practice but is well worth the effort.
00:51The world we set the game within is very old and the legend has it that couple thousand years ago
00:57people have fought and successfully defeated their god together with his demonic army
01:03and it's since then that they believe evil can be completely cast away from human nature.
01:10Each individual who commits a deadly sin is forever marked with a tattoo across the face,
01:17becoming an outcast for an entire lifetime.
01:29Harkin, our hero, has a very dark past behind him and because of that when the demons, or the roger
01:37as we call them,
01:38started to reappear he is assigned to face the threat.
01:42It's almost as if people believe that they can fight evil with evil.
01:47Oh and by the way, it's worth mentioning that we really put a lot of work into highlighting the feeling
01:52of intense do away
01:54within each single one-on-one encounter that you will come across.
02:02Here this next enemy normally would not be much of a hassle because he's mainly attacking from a distance
02:07but surprise surprise there's a second one.
02:10So we've gotten ourselves into more or less a one versus two situation.
02:14If I want to be extra efficient in situations like this, I always try to pull off a special dual
02:19wielding combo with the daggers.
02:21It requires the timing but the DPS is definitely worth the try.
02:27The game will also unlock new worlds for you to explore once you advance on the story path
02:33but the ones you just left are not locked away from you.
02:36It's not only possible but also very encouraged to re-explore the places you've already visited
02:41and the new areas will open up, presenting you with new loot and new opponents.
02:57All quiet here too, old man.
03:03I'm not leaving without answers.
03:23Oh, this one here is a different type of opponent.
03:26He's bigger, stronger, more aggressive but also he's not defending himself
03:30so we'll try a different type of timing with this guy.
03:33Using a heavier gear.
03:35Since we're not a slasher, certain things will not work, like noshing the button for example.
03:41Blocking? Well, that probably won't get you far in the long run.
03:45So, let's set the pace right here.
03:48I'll get in, wait for a time to deal slower and stronger strike, then get out, rinse and repeat.
03:54It's quite useful with heavy weapons like this hammer and you can even charge the attacks.
04:01Another one bites the dust.
04:24Okay, let's jump straight into a boss fight.
04:26Now, this is gonna be the first boss of the game, we call him First Worden.
04:31And we wanted him to resemble an honorable knight, fighting and obeying his demonic codex.
04:40Gameplay wise, our goal was to mix action with RPG in a way where all elements, including story, world and
04:48characters,
04:49revolve around the user experience.
04:51In our case, that means combat and character development.
04:57Basically, there are two main pillars of combat in Lords of the Fallen.
05:01Melee fighting and magical, supernatural skills.
05:05The first one is fairly tactical and rewards players who like the feeling of learning
05:10and that special sense of becoming proficient at game mechanics.
05:16The magical side of Lords Combat, on the other hand, even though it's not covered in this video,
05:21is designed to feel very spectacular and powerful.
05:25But that is also not the only reward that comes with using it.
05:28Our goal was to give players the means to distribute the process of learning how to play the game along
05:34the time they choose.
05:35You'll always be able to use magic at times when the difficulty spikes, so it's up to you if you
05:43want to use advanced strats instead.
05:45Especially if that might get you a better loot.
05:51There are three character classes that you can choose from at the start of the game.
05:56Warrior, Cleric and Rogue.
05:58And they will determine the set of spells that manifest your playing style.
06:03Apart from that, the statistics of a character, the gear that you want to use can be freely mixed,
06:08regardless of its suggestive class association.
06:12For example, if you're more into heavy weapons but still want to keep that light rogue armor,
06:17there's no reason not to try this combination out.
06:20Or defensive play with a shield or an offensive dual weapon approach,
06:24they both can be mastered and become lethal with enough skill and persistence.
06:36The last stage of the first warden fight is where it gets interesting,
06:40because we finally managed to destroy the shield, making him a bit more vulnerable.
06:45At the same time, we pushed his aggression a little bit over the edge.
06:49If you remember not to get greedy and deal too much damage at too short amount of time, you can
06:55make it.
06:55Just please, try to avoid his special attack, as it can stunlock you.
07:00And, of course, we wouldn't want that, would we?
07:21Thanks a lot, guys!
07:22That's the first gameplay from Lords of the Fallen.
07:25And, of course, there's way more to come, so keep your eyes on our website and fun page.
07:29We want to make sure you know everything you wish about our game
07:32before it gets to your PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
