00:11Hey guys,
00:12Sid from PlayStation Blog here.
00:13Today we're checking out Murisaki Baby.
00:16That's a new PS Vita game that's coming out
00:18this fall from developer Ovo Sonico.
00:20It's a very quirky,
00:22slightly eccentric adventure
00:24game that makes great use of PS Vita's
00:26front touchscreen and rear touchpad.
00:28Let's take a look.
00:30A couple of key things to keep in mind
00:32about this game is it's very interested
00:34in having the player form an emotional
00:36bond with the main character.
00:38And the main character as you may guess
00:40is named Baby.
00:42You'll be leading her through
00:44the levels using PS Vita's touch screen.
00:46The front touch screen.
00:47You have to kind of keep tabs on this
00:50balloon. You don't want to fly away
00:52or pop at any time or it's
00:54curtains for Baby.
00:56Here's one of the first puzzles in the game.
00:59It's something that will reoccur
01:00throughout the game. You'll see it happen more
01:01than once. And one thing I want to note is I'm not using
01:03the analog sticks. I'm not using the buttons.
01:05I'm not using the L or R triggers.
01:07I'm actually exclusively using the front touch screen
01:09right now. And I'm going to move this light bulb
01:11over to the second hook
01:13to scare away all those nasty, nasty
01:15bats.
01:17And do it again.
01:21Obviously you can just see this very interesting art style.
01:24Oh, I see another pulsing heart balloon here.
01:26I'm going to stab it.
01:27And we'll see what that does here in just a minute.
01:31It actually gave us
01:32a new ability that makes use of
01:34PS Vita's rear touch pad.
01:36So now I'm in this sort of nightmare world,
01:38a scare world, and I can tap the right touch pad
01:40to have scary jack-o-lanterns
01:42pop out and scare anyone that's in the vicinity.
01:46So just really cool, dare I say
01:48Tim Burton-esque sort of backgrounds
01:50here with these tentacles and the creepy mist.
01:53It's really interesting,
01:55very unique.
01:56So here, Tentacle Boy, as I've been
01:58kind of calling him, he's making
02:00life difficult for Baby, so I think
02:02we need to put a little scare into him.
02:04Woo! Get out of here.
02:08Now Baby
02:08is free to make her way
02:10right up the ramp.
02:14Uh oh. We got some bogeys here.
02:17So these guys are going to try and
02:18pop my balloon. I'm just going to tap the front
02:20touch screen to defeat them.
02:24So here's
02:24a small puzzle. If you try to walk up to it,
02:27Baby actually won't
02:28jump on her own. You have to swipe
02:30to make her jump over.
02:32And she seems pretty pleased with herself there,
02:34bouncing around a little bit. So let's try the next one.
02:37This is one of the things I think
02:38that proves to be interesting about this game.
02:41She's kind of learning a little bit.
02:42a little bit of an AI routine going on there.
02:45She, you know,
02:46I think this is designed to kind of increase
02:48the emotional connection between
02:50her and the player.
02:52Where she's kind of
02:54running ahead a little bit of her own accord
02:56without me having to hold her hand.
02:57So here's another balloon, which dare I say
02:59is going to give me some sort of
03:01newfangled ability. We'll find out soon.
03:08One of the things about this, there's no
03:09crook here, right?
03:11So I'm going to, a little spoiler
03:12to this puzzle, so you don't have to fret too much.
03:15I'm going to swap to the new background
03:16I got from the last balloon I popped,
03:19which is this sort of windmill background.
03:21And that gives me some new mechanics,
03:22which is I rapidly touch the rear touchpad
03:26to trigger a fierce wind that blows the light in
03:29and gets the bats out of the picture.
03:35So, there seems to be no clear way to progress here.
03:38I can't really drop down.
03:43Baby's maneuverability is a little on the limited side,
03:45but I think I did pick up a new background here.
03:47I'm swiping my fingers on the touchpad.
03:50And, uh, it looks like I can make it rain, so to speak.
03:54There we go.
03:56And, uh, well, I can't seem to pull Baby along,
03:59but I do see a sail,
04:01which makes me wonder if my wind ability
04:03might not come in handy here.
04:05And it's interesting using these different abilities
04:07in concert. It's actually really cool.
04:09I really like the mechanics. It's refreshing
04:11to play a game that's so touch screen oriented
04:13that's more than just sort of tapping
04:15or sliding. It's, uh, I think, an interesting
04:17way to interact with the environment.
04:20That was Murasaki Baby.
04:22It's coming exclusively to PS Vita this fall
04:24from developer OvoSonico.
04:26Let us know what you think in the comments.
