00:14So I'm here in Stockholm.
00:15Really excited that we just signed
00:17to acquire Minecraft in Mojang,
00:19the studio we've worked with for many years.
00:22Three years ago
00:23we started working with
00:25the studio on Minecraft.
00:27We announced at E3 that we'd
00:29be bringing Minecraft to the Xbox
00:31360. At that time
00:33we really didn't know what we were getting
00:35into. The next year we shipped
00:37it and it became the best selling
00:39online game of all time for us
00:41on Xbox 360.
00:42And if you've looked over the years it's always
00:45stayed at the top of Xbox Live usage.
00:47One of the things that's pretty special
00:49to me about Minecraft and
00:51Mojang and my relationship with Marcus
00:53and Carl and Jacob is
00:54is just watching the three of them
00:56evolve as individuals
00:58with the success that they've had.
01:00I remember the first time we went out to dinner
01:02right before E3 of 2011
01:04which was frankly the first time I had met them
01:06face to face.
01:08We literally just signed the deal
01:10to bring Minecraft to
01:12Xbox 360 and they were
01:14seeing the growth on PC
01:16but still very early in the growth of what
01:18was to become what we see as Minecraft
01:20today.
01:22And as individuals, as friends
01:24I'm really happy for the success
01:26that they've built.
01:28This has been a life changing event for
01:30them. The game industry can be a
01:32tough place with hits and people
01:34working really hard. It's not always
01:36true that the most effort goes into
01:38the biggest hits. This is
01:40definitely an example where a team
01:42very committed people, people that I
01:44know and have known for many years now
01:47have put just their
01:49heart and soul
01:50into what Minecraft has become
01:52and to see the results turn out so
01:54well for them is just really nice.
01:59This is a game
02:00that has found its audience on touch
02:02devices, on phones, on iPads,
02:04on console and obviously it's
02:06true home on PC. Whether you're playing
02:08on an Xbox, whether you're playing on a
02:10PlayStation, an Android, iOS device
02:12our goal is to continue
02:14to evolve and innovate with Minecraft
02:16across all those platforms.
02:20Some things that are special to us about
02:22Minecraft is the broad
02:24set of gamers that play this game.
02:26You have young and old, male
02:28female, there's
02:30truly very few things in the market
02:32whether games, movies,
02:34TV, like it with the amount of
02:36just excitement engagement
02:38from the community. The people, the community
02:40out there of user generated content
02:42and servers that have made this such a
02:44vibrant and active
02:46community for so many gamers for so many
02:48years. Those are critical to what
02:50have made Minecraft great to date
02:52and things that we're going to want to
02:54continue to work on and continue to
02:56work with the community and with the
02:58studio here in Stockholm. One thing
03:00that's really going to be clear is
03:02Microsoft, the team at Xbox
03:04are focused on gaming. We're going to
03:06learn a lot as an organization
03:08and what it means to work with a
03:10community that's as vibrant as the
03:12Minecraft community. And they should know
03:14from us that we come at this
03:16with obviously a plan
03:18and a real cornerstone of that plan
03:20is listening to the feedback from
03:22the Minecraft community on what they'd like to see
03:24and just as we've
03:26made some changes and improvements
03:28in our Xbox program
03:30I want to keep that same level
03:32committed to the Minecraft community
03:34as we go through this experience together.
