00:00Everyone says Raymak is everywhere. And in today's episode, Raymak is in Hanoi, Vietnam.
00:06On this trip, I made new friends, discovered amazing places for local food and drinks,
00:12explored the city, and somehow even ended up in jail.
00:17So come join me on this journey, starting with a hot bowl of pho.
00:23So the pho in Hanoi is a little different from the pho in Ho Chi Minh City.
00:27Here, it is served with a lot of spring onions instead of the earth leaves that we usually get in
00:32the south.
00:33They pour the boiling broth over the beef so it is kind of medium rare.
00:38To enjoy this, I like to add a little bit of lime juice, some pickled garlics, and a few slices
00:43of fresh chilies.
00:45And my girlfriend, she likes to add a little bit of chili sauce.
00:48Just looking at all these condiments, I really know it's going to be amazing.
00:53Look at the pho noodles.
01:12So this is the porch cake.
01:16I'm going to try it with the beef soup.
01:27And that was Phoen Sung at 24B Chungyan Alley in the old quarter.
01:32We ordered one special pho and one medium rare beef and brisket pho, with two posh eggs.
01:39The total came to around 180,000 Vietnamese dong, which is a bit more expensive than average,
01:44but definitely worth it.
01:46Next, we are heading to a very famous cafe in Hanoi.
01:50It is one of the busiest and most crowded spots in the area,
01:54and has been serving its signature drink for over 80 years.
01:58Can you guess which cafe it is?
02:01We are in Cafe Giang of Hanoi right now.
02:05This cafe is the original creator of the egg coffee in Vietnam.
02:10And Cafe Giang has been running since 1946.
02:14They have a plethora of egg coffee related products like the Oreo egg coffee,
02:19and I saw like a few different chocolate egg coffee and so on.
02:24And they even have the beer egg coffee.
02:27The line coming in here was very...
02:30Wow, look at that finally here.
02:38Let's try.
02:45Wow, so different.
02:48This is so thick.
02:50So different.
02:51I mean, I've tried egg coffee in so many other cafe before,
02:55but this one, it really tops it because it's thick and very flavorful.
03:09I can taste the very strong coffee underneath and the very strong like egg taste on top.
03:18It's like a sweet custardy egg.
03:24Perfect combination.
03:32The water down here, the water down here is to keep it warm.
03:37So we are ordering other things also to try out like the...
03:41So there is a cream, cream egg coffee kind of thing.
03:45So I ordered a cream egg coffee with green beans.
03:48So it's gonna be interesting.
03:50And Kelia also ordered an egg matcha.
03:54So this is gonna be very interesting.
03:57And to enjoy this, it will also go very well with like bread related products like the banh mi and
04:02the croissant.
04:04Yeah, so it's gonna be very interesting.
04:09But they ran out of croissant and bread related products.
04:14Because at this place, it's just too popular.
04:17So I'm just gonna stick with my eggs.
04:26They even have a branch in Japan.
04:32So good.
04:34So egg products are usually like very fishy and like not easy to eat.
04:40But this is really nice.
04:43So I don't know how they made this.
04:46But I'm also planning to try to recreate this at home.
04:59And in Vietnam, coffee is something you sit and chill with.
05:03Often on these small stools and low tables.
05:06It is just part of the charm.
05:08And this cafe also offers an instant version of egg coffee.
05:12Along with a few souvenirs you can take home.
05:22That was phenomenal.
05:34For one of the best egg coffee experience, you can come through Cafe Jiang at 39 Wing Ho Huang streets.
05:56So one of the things that Vietnamese are really proud of is to display their flag.
06:02So everywhere we go, you will see the Vietnamese flag everywhere.
06:08See? Here and there.
06:16So many.
06:18This one smells so good.
06:21Is it like a seafood?
06:23Oh, haha, this is Lao Gua.
06:28Like a hot pot.
06:30Yeah.
06:35Mmm.
06:40Oh.
06:41Wow, there's a lot of snails over here.
06:44I think this is a seafood street or maybe.
06:48I can smell a lot of seafood here.
07:03So we are beside Hon Kim Lake.
07:06The Sword Lake in Hanoi right now.
07:18So this is our morning view of the Hon Kim Lake, the Sword Lake in Hanoi.
07:27And you look at that tree over there.
07:28It's so special.
07:29It is like touching the water.
07:31It's like growing inside.
07:33Yeah.
07:34I think it's a rain tree.
07:44When we are traveling any cities in Vietnam,
07:47so it would be very advisable to bring a small umbrella
07:51because the weather can be unpredictable sometimes.
07:54It can be sunny and it also can be raining sometimes like right now.
08:05There's another tree over here that is kissing the lake.
08:10The rain is so heavy right now.
08:24So look at that.
08:25People are standing underneath that structure over there to shield themselves from the heavy rain.
08:33The rain is quite heavy right now.
08:35And luckily, we took umbrella.
08:44So many people.
08:45Okay, this behind us is Trangtin Plaza.
08:51So it is a high-end shopping mall that sells a lot of luxurious item like pavilion in Malaysia.
08:58But this is the pavilion equivalent of Hanoi.
09:05The tricycles over there.
09:08So back in those days, before cars were popular,
09:12a lot of the mode of transportation in Vietnam is in tricycles.
09:18Where they can even go to market to bring a lot of items.
09:22They also use tricycles.
09:24Come, let's go.
09:32Look at that tricycle over there.
09:47They're selling local delicacies, local food.
09:51Like the bun dao mam tom.
09:54Yeah.
09:56Bun dao.
09:57Yeah.
09:59And the shrimp paste noodle.
10:07See?
10:08People are using the charcoal fire to cook, to boil water.
10:23There's a small pagoda over here.
10:34So walking the back alley, we can see a lot of things that are very unique.
10:46And now we are at the other side of the road.
10:56So we are at the street right now, where they sell a lot of electrical items like speakers,
11:02old audio cassette tapes, players, and even the remote control for air conditioning.
11:10Yeah, it's like an electrical street over here in Hanoi.
11:15And there's also a lot of food like pho and dak san.
11:23Now we are at the book street in Hanoi.
11:34So this is the book street.
11:36You see a lot of shops selling books and a lot of shops selling like souvenirs as well.
11:44The books, and some are open, some are closed.
11:49And then there's a lot of like souvenirs, items, a lot of toys, books, and the beautiful lanterns above us.
12:01So I'm just kidding about we are going to a prison.
12:03We are going to the real prison, which is the Hua Lo prison, a very prominent historical site in Hanoi.
12:12Look, I think it's over here.
12:14Oh, over there.
12:16Okay, okay.
12:17Okay, come, let's go.
12:29So the Hua Lo prison is very popular among visitors as well.
12:33They've done a lot of very good marketing.
12:36You can see the line is very long.
12:41So it is very, very popular among tourists.
12:44Anyone who comes to Hanoi would also come here.
13:04So we just bought our ticket.
13:06The ticket is 50,000 Vietnamese dong each.
13:11Careful.
13:12And today some of the parts are closed, but they replace it with pictures.
13:17Come, let's go in.
13:21Hello.
13:22Hello.
13:30We have audio time here.
13:31Come here, please.
13:32Can you subscribe?
13:33Okay.
13:33Yeah, audio.
13:34Take one.
13:35Yeah, take one.
13:36Take one.
13:36What language is your one?
13:38English?
13:39All you're not in here.
13:40100,000.
13:41Take one in English?
13:43Yeah, one in English.
13:45Okay.
13:46Like this from 133.
13:50So you need to press the number and green button to play.
13:54And red button to stop.
13:56Get the volume and go back and forward.
13:59Okay.
14:00Okay, so I press like.
14:00If your device had any problems, please come back here and we support you.
14:05Okay.
14:05Please keep the receipt and the map.
14:06Return with all the guys as they sit when you finish.
14:09Okay.
14:12Hua Lo prison was built by the French in 1896 and was once used to imprison Vietnamese revolutionaries
14:19under colonial rule.
14:21Its name, Hua Lo, actually comes from the craft area that used to be here, known for its fire,
14:27kilns and ceramic work.
14:29So this room is for 30 people.
14:36So 30 women and their children as well.
14:46So this is the original gullotine used by the French in the past.
14:50I think 19th century.
14:53Yeah.
14:54So the basket over there, the basket over there is for the corpses.
15:06So this basket is for the corpses.
15:18So these are the cells that are furthest from the entrance.
15:22Is to, they are used to lock the people who are going for the death row, the gullotine.
15:29Yeah.
15:35Castrophobic.
15:38No.
15:56I'm trying the bang tea for the first time.
15:59So the bang tree is something that the prisoner grow in the past and they use it for many, many
16:07things like making chopsticks, making fruit, and then like the leaf they will use as medicine to cover
16:14wounds.
16:15And then because of bang tree, the leaf also provide nutrition.
16:19So they also make use of the, the leaf as a nutrition to, to help with like diseases,
16:27like berry berry and all those, yeah.
16:30So let's try the bang tea.
16:36It's refreshing, a little sweet, a little bitter.
16:45But very nice.
16:47Feels very historical.
16:54I didn't expect this place to leave such a deep impression on me.
16:58My visit to Hua Lo prison was honestly eye opening.
17:02The entire place is incredibly well maintained and you can really feel the weight of history
17:07in every corner.
17:08This isn't a place you should rush through.
17:11It is somewhere you take your time to truly understand and appreciate what happened here.
17:16The self-guided tour is also very seamless.
17:19With a clear numbering system and translation devices that makes everything easy to follow.
17:24And if you can, try to catch their sacred night performance.
17:28It is best to reserve early.
17:33Okay, time for something I'm really excited about.
17:36We are taking a cab all the way to Piano Hanoi.
17:39It is quite a distance, but we are going to visit my friend there.
17:43Hey guys, we are at Piano Hanoi now.
17:47So this piano business was started in 2008.
17:51Wow, look at all the pianos over here.
17:55They also have like Yamaha and fly keys.
17:58You know like, wow, so many different pianos.
18:02So this is like a really, and so many grand pianos.
18:05And this place has five floors.
18:09Yeah, such a, such a really successful.
18:12I think they, they provide Piano to many households and many businesses too.
18:42So you could wait a few hours or so.
18:56Like y'all know why?
19:04I think it was so interesting.
19:04I think they were moving around for a couple of years.
19:07You, you, you, you, you, you, you.
19:08I think that was really cool.

29:23market in the old quarter. So you can see the nightlife over there, there's a lot of lights
29:28and people are exercising. You can see people exercising. So a lot of people would think that
29:37Vietnam is a very like mono-cultural, mono-religious place. Like for example, people would think that
29:44Vietnam is majority Buddhist, but as we can see over here, there's a very big mosque. So
29:52Vietnam do embrace a lot of different religions as well. Like for example, Christianity, the Muslim
30:00and Catholics. So yeah, and for foreigners who are Muslim who come to Vietnam, you can actually
30:08come here and worship. And over here, they are celebrating the Ramadan as well.
30:14Yeah, we can take this view. Oh. Yeah, we can stand up here.
30:20Ah, come. You can stand here and heal. Ah, yes, yes.

33:09We can make together tomorrow. Okay. Iftar video, so good. It's good. You show,
33:15you're mostly subscriber of Malaysia. Yeah. You show Malaysia people like, uh, how is
33:19the iftar in Hanoi? Yeah. How's the iftar in Hanoi? How the Muslim life in Hanoi.
33:23Hmm. So I will help you. Hmm. So the, the, the timing of your iftar is like usually?

33:51it's, it's a pleasant surprise. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. That was a pleasant surprise. A YouTuber meeting
34:03another YouTuber. Whoa. That's very good. So in this street, you will also see a lot of like,
34:11uh, okay. In this street, you'll also see a lot of, uh, restaurants, particularly the halal
34:17restaurants because the, the mosque is right here. So there will be quite a few, uh, halal restaurants
34:22or so. So they usually have their, uh, their celebration also because now it's Ramadan month.
34:28So there's, there's an iftar over here and yeah.
34:37So many different food. So the closer we get to the Honkim Lake and the ancient town,
34:43the vibe is getting more and more energetic. You can see there's a lot of, uh, people.
34:50Wow. See, it's getting more and more happening, especially because today is a Saturday. So weekend,
35:00people are even more like they, they would go out, like whole families would go out. And for Vietnamese,
35:06Sundays are very important, uh, family day. Yeah. So there's a lot of cars and this place is very
35:17happening and it's getting more and more people
35:22and it's getting more and more people as we go nearer to the lake and nearer to the old quarters.
35:49So over here, uh, there's a lot of, um, very nice spots, uh, for photographs.
35:58See, beautiful.
36:10So Fela is a very, uh, popular, especially among the young people, the young, young wives. Uh,
36:16you can see it's so full, uh, among the young people. And it is very famous in, uh, both Hanoi,
36:22Ho Chi Minh,
36:22and other places as well. So we got, we are going in, uh, to get some, uh, desserts or coffee.
36:38And while we were waiting for our drinks, Kilian noticed a small fruit vendor outside the cafe.
36:43So she went to buy some. The fruit cost about 100,000 Vietnamese dong for 700 gram, which is a
36:49bit pricey.
36:50But we thought it was okay considering the hygiene seemed good and it is right in the city center.
36:55And if you do buy some, just make sure to agree on the price first.
37:00It is also a nice little snack after the dinner for us.
37:12I'm with my drink. And this drink is called Khoi Bailao Khoi Bailao.
37:24I think this is, uh, made from tapioca.
37:35I'm going to stir it a bit because, uh, at the bottom it's still warm.
37:45I'll stir it a bit. On top it's ice.
37:51It's very refreshing. Uh, I think mine has a little coffee.
37:56But it's really nice. Uh, not too sweet because I, uh, we asked for 50% sweetness.
38:06I really like the taste. It's not too sweet and it doesn't have like a sour of the taste.
38:14No wonder young people like this.
38:16Okay, I'm gonna try another tea as well. This is my girlfriend's tea.
38:20It's a vanilla oolong tea. First time.
38:27Wow, very, very aromatic because oolong is, uh, usually very aromatic.
38:35It tastes a little bit like, a little like Thai iced tea.
38:42Yeah, very, very nice. Very aromatic. Yeah.
38:46No wonder she likes it. Mine is very, like the old people drink.
38:58We slowly enjoyed our fela drinks while walking to Khoasi Kueong to pick up some nice gifts.
39:04The shop offers a wide variety of traditional jams, candies, cookies, chocolates and more.
39:10It is very well organized with affordable prices and warm hospitality.
39:15I even gained a new subscriber.
39:18I have to say, the night market is very lively with activities for people of all ages.
39:25Wenders sell high quality products at surprisingly good prices.
39:29From jackets to backpacks to shoes and handmade soap.
39:33The market truly has everything. I even saw locals shopping here.
39:39That said, make sure to agree on the price before buying.
39:42And don't hesitate to bargain if needed.
39:47After the night market in the old quarter, we called it a day and made our way back to the
39:52hotel to rest.
39:53That's the end of part one of our Hanoi journey.
39:56Thank you for watching and I hope you enjoyed it.
