Day 2 in Dalat 🇻🇳

Day 2 in Dalat began with a beautiful breakfast at Goldient Boutique Hotel before we set off for one of the city’s most iconic landmarks — Dalat Railway Station

Built in 1938, with railway construction in Dalat dating back as early as 1903, this historic station carries an incredible sense of nostalgia. The train itself is absolutely beautiful, almost as if it has brought us back to a different era of travel. To make the experience even more magical, there was even a live violin performance on board. 🎻🚂

The train journey covers only around 7 kilometres between two stations, but it was more than enough to give us a glimpse of Dalat’s charming landscapes and old-world character. We eventually arrived at Trại Mát Station, where we visited the spectacular Linh Phước Pagoda.

The pagoda is an architectural masterpiece, featuring incredibly intricate carvings, porcelain decorations and colorful mosaics. One of its most fascinating highlights is a huge statue of Guan Yin crafted from beautifully preserved eternal flowers, along with an even larger Guan Yin statue standing majestically inside the temple.

After exploring the pagoda, we hopped back on the train to Dalat and made a quick stop at Phê La for some drinks before heading to Burrata Woodfired Pizza for lunch.

It was a wonderful place to enjoy some timeless Italian classics, but what made the experience even more memorable was the surrounding nature. There were honey bees buzzing around us, giving the kids a little unexpected lesson in learning to appreciate and embrace nature. 🐝🍕

After lunch, we headed to Trúc Lâm Zen Monastery, taking the cable car from Robin Hill, which is conveniently located nearby. The cable car ride itself offered breathtaking scenery, while the monastery provided a completely different atmosphere — peaceful, tranquil and surrounded by beautiful natural landscapes. 🌲⛰️

And of course, no day in Dalat is complete without a comforting hotpot dinner.

We ended the day with Lẩu gà lá é, a wonderfully soul-warming chicken hotpot at Lẩu gà lá é Nam Hồng. The fragrant broth and comforting flavours were exactly what we needed after a full day of exploring.

To finish things off, we headed to Kem Phụng, a local favourite that has been serving Dalat residents since 1986, for some well-deserved desserts. 🍨

From a nostalgic train ride and breathtaking temples to peaceful mountain scenery, comforting hotpot and old-school local desserts, Day 2 in Dalat was truly spectacular from beginning to end.

02:57Going back to the train.
02:59Woohoo!
03:13After the pagoda, we proceeded to burrata wood-fired pizza for lunch.
03:17The drive there can be a little challenging.
03:18There's only one road in and out.
03:20To get in here is really not easy.
03:22Upon reaching, there's still a short walk before we reach the restaurant.
03:26To get in here is really nice.
03:46Their ginger beer was incredibly refreshing and quite unique,
03:49while the fruit salad topped with creamy burrata cheese was another highlight.
03:54The clam spaghetti was very delicious too.
03:57For pizzas, we had the burrata air prosciutto.
04:00There's a lot of prosciutto on it.
04:02And four cheese.
04:03And both were absolutely amazing.
04:05To finish, we enjoyed their special tiramisu for dessert,
04:09a wonderful Italian feast in Dalat.
04:11Interestingly, our honey top pizza attracted quite a few little visitors.
04:15Instead of shooing them away,
04:17we took the opportunity to embrace nature and appreciate these little creatures.
04:24Eat!
04:28Good job yourself.
04:30Very nice.
04:31You overcome your fear already.
04:32It's not fear.

04:41Look at that.
04:42Look at that.
04:42Look at that.
04:43Look at that.
04:44Look at that.
04:45Look at that.
04:45Look at that.
04:47After a satisfying lunch,
04:49we made our way to Robin Hill to take the cable car to Chuk Lamzen Monastery.
04:53The ride itself was an experience worth savouring.
04:56With breathtaking views of Dallas' lush pine forest,
04:59Dallas city, rolling hills and beautiful natural landscapes,
05:03stretching as far as the eye could see.
05:05And to make the journey even more memorable,
05:08we spent our time together playing some little fun games inside the cable car.
05:12We had plenty of laughter along the way.
05:14Sometimes, it is these simple moments that make travelling special.
05:18Upon arriving, the atmosphere changed completely.
05:21Chuk Lamzen Monastery welcomed us with a sense of peace and tranquility.
05:25It was the perfect place to slow down, breathe deeply and simply enjoy the moment.
05:30Okay, one of this one.
05:39Can we touch the water?
05:40No.
05:50Oh, the wind is so nice.
06:07Sunflower!
06:09Sunflower, how many times?
06:13Another beautiful spot here is Haute in Tham,
06:16which beautifully translates to Lake of Peace of Mind.
06:18We also took a leisurely walk to the nearby Duan Lam Lake,
06:21often known as Paradise Lake.
06:23With its expansive waters and stunning natural surroundings,
06:27it was another beautiful reminder of just how beautiful Dallas can be.
06:31Surrounded by lush greenery, beautiful trees and plenty of towering pine trees, the entire
06:37monastery feels like a tranquil escape from the busy world.
06:45This is a type of lantern flower.
06:47This is a more beautiful flower.
07:01Is it glued?
07:02No, it's stuck.
07:05Can I punch it down?
07:07No.
07:07They never glue it.
07:34I'm going to use the technique and it can't be used in the space.

07:40Ah!
07:41What are you doing?!
07:58Ah!
07:59Ah!
08:03More fun games on our ride back, but it looks like it was going to rain.
08:07I could smell it in the air.
08:18La Gouda, buffet ral d'alat, looks like a vegetable buffet.
08:33That means you're going to eat as much vegetables as you want.
08:38It's like 10 ringgit.
08:41No, it's 15 ringgit.
08:4911 ringgit, uh, 20 cents.
08:56Okay, that's a check.
08:5811 ringgit, 20 cents.
09:15And of course, no day in dalat would be complete without a comforting hot pot dinner.
09:19We ended our day at Lao Gah La E Nam Hong, one of the local favorites for this signature dalat
09:24dish.
09:25After a full day of exploring, nothing beats gathering around a steaming pot of vagrant chicken broth,
09:31infused with the distinctive aroma of La E, a Vietnamese herb similar to basil.
09:36These are unlaid chicken egg sacks.
09:38They are small, spherical, bright yellow immature yorks,
09:42harvested directly from the ovaries of a hen before they get a hard shell.
09:46And here's the fun part.
09:48Let me show you how we prepare it.
09:50We add the ingredients into the bubbling broth,
09:53let everything cook to perfection,
09:55and enjoy it piping hot.
09:57Can you guys see how much La E leaves I'm adding in?
10:00The more, the better.
10:02That's why this dish is called Lao Gah La E.
10:05And please don't forget the unlaid chicken egg sacks too.
10:09Lao Gah La E is simple, comforting, and absolutely soul-warming.
10:13If you're in dalat, make sure you eat Lao Gah La E.
10:16These are crispy deep-fried tofu, tau, with mamtom, fermented shrimp paste.
10:21And these are spicy and crunchy chicken feet.
