00:03Last year at the Game Awards, we created the Industry Icon Award.
00:06It was bestowed upon Hannah Roberta Williams, the creators of the adventure game genre.
00:11This year at the show, I wanted to find someone who would carry that legacy forward of being a creator
00:20that has done some amazing things in the industry,
00:22but today's modern gamer may not know about the impact they had.
00:27And this year, we're going to bestow the award upon Brett Sperry and Lewis Castle, the co-founders of Westwood
00:33Studios.
00:34You know, all this attention around eSports right now is incredible, but I think if you really sort of wind
00:40the tape back and figure out where eSports started,
00:43it began with a game called Doom II that Westwood created, which was really the first big real-time strategy
00:49game.
00:50That led to Command & Conquer and many other strategy games after that,
00:54But the success today of titles like League of Legends and Dota 2, I think really can be traced back
01:00to the pioneering work that Brett and Lewis did at Westwood.
01:03The story is going to be told by the filmmaking team behind Indie Game the Movie, a Sundance award-winning
01:10documentary, which I'd encourage everyone to check out.
01:13Lozanne and James have been working on this film that's going to tell the story of Brett and Lewis's journey.
01:19And we're going to premiere that, obviously, at the show, and also have Brett and Lewis join us to accept
01:24this honor.
01:24And I hope it's one of these awards that you wouldn't necessarily expect, but will turn in to be a
01:30really important moment in telling the history of the video game industry.
01:34We'll see you next time.
