00:02Today I'm house hunting around the beaches and villages of Costa del Garaz, just south of Barcelona in beautiful Catalonia.
00:10I'm Lee Juggernaut. Using my passion for interior design, I've bought, renovated and sold several properties both in the UK

00:19Today I'll be using all my knowledge to find the perfect place for Nigel and Sarah, and the stage is
00:24set for a classic battle between head and heart.
00:27I've been a bit reserved, but, you know, that's me, unfortunately.
00:32That's Mr Head over there. Yeah, Mr Head. Miss Heart. And the heart's gone for it. Oh, I love it.
00:38And I do my best to keep both on board. Have a look at that view one last time, just
00:43in case it changes your mind.

00:46I visit a luxury villa with a stunning garden.
00:49I mean, this is paradise. With the jasmine, the palm trees, the banana trees, this really is an exceptional property.
00:58But do I end up finding my house hunters their perfect place in the sun?
01:02Both of us are on the page. On that same page. Wow.
01:11Since Sarah and Nigel got together 18 years ago, they've always enjoyed holidaying in Spain.
01:16Now that their son Tom has moved permanently to Barcelona, they're looking for a holiday home where they can visit
01:22him whenever they want and, of course, enjoy the Spanish son.
01:26Sarah and Nigel, who live in Lancashire, first met at a wedding.
01:31My friend was marrying your friend. And I was seated at the table next to Nigel. And he was facing
01:42away from me at the time. And he turned around, saw me, introduced me to everybody on the table and
01:50then said, what's your name?
01:54And then, and I introduced myself and the rest is history.
01:59Yeah.
02:00They have a budget of £250,000 to buy a holiday home in the Costa del Garraf, to be close
02:06to Sarah's son Tom and have room for Nigel's two children to visit, but most importantly, to enjoy life in
02:12the sun.
02:12Having tapas a drink, meeting friends, meeting new people.
02:17See the sun shining through the window. Being able to go out and go for either for a bike ride
02:22or for a lovely walk along the promenade.
02:29To get to the Costa del Garraf, you fly into Barcelona, which takes around two hours from the UK.
02:35And my plan for this search is to view properties within an hour's radius of the city.
02:39The Costa del Garraf, south of Barcelona, is one of the most upmarket parts of Spain and also one of
02:45the priciest in terms of property.
02:48Footballing legend Lionel Messi is just one of the many famous names who have holiday homes here.
02:54This roughly 30 mile stretch of coast has some great beaches and a mixture of lively resort towns and quieter
03:00villages,
03:01plus some great hiking trails in the hills, making it all in all a pretty sought after place to live
03:06in.
03:06The property market here is dominated by Catalonian buyers looking for a second residence and prices here have increased by
03:12up to 13% in the past 12 months.
03:15Properties with outside space are selling fast and are high in demand, if priced correctly.
03:21So if Sarah and Nigel find a holiday home that they love, they're going to have to act fast.
03:25Before we get going, I'm meeting up with my house hunters on the beautiful sandy beach in the town of
03:31Villanova, Il Al Geltru,
03:32to find out a bit more about them and what they're looking for in terms of property.

03:40Welcome to the beautiful, yet a little bit cloudy, Costa del Garraf. Feeling good? Absolutely, yeah.
03:47Now, not your first time here I believe, right? We came here about a month ago.
03:52Okay, and what did you make of it? Loved it. Yeah. And how does Tom feel about mum and dad
03:57coming out?
03:57Well, he's no choice. No choice in the matter.
04:00Who else is going to be joining you on this journey out here?
04:03Kayleigh and Matthew, our other children, and potentially my parents, my sister and your brother.
04:12My brother, yeah. So, over here we are working with a budget of £250,000.
04:17Yeah. Do I have any wiggle room? About £15,000 wiggle room.
04:21Okay, yeah, that's good. So, around £265,000. Yeah.
04:25What are we looking for? The main thing is for it to be close to public transport.
04:30Okay. So that we can travel backwards and forwards from wherever we buy to Barcelona to see Tom easily.
04:39What about the property? What does it look like to you?
04:41Well, at least two bedrooms. Yeah. Two bathrooms. If possible. If possible. Yeah. We could work with that.
04:51We're open to whether it's an older property, a new property, quite open to that.
04:57Apartments, townhouses. What are you looking for? Anything. Anything?
05:01See, now I've budget. Ah! We're making my life easy here. Yeah. Yeah.
05:07Okay. Modern, traditional, family. We're completely, completely open, honestly.

05:15Maximum walk to the beach would be? 20 minutes. Okay.
05:19What's the furthest we could be away from Barcelona? Are you willing to venture out and look at different areas?
05:24Probably no more than an hour, an hour and a half tops. Tops. Okay. Yeah.
05:29Obviously, with us being so close to Barcelona and just property highly, highly in demand here, if I found the
05:36ideal property for you, would you be willing to possibly push the budget a little bit?
05:42If you found the perfect property. Yeah. Let's waste no more time on here. Hopefully, Mr. Sunshine will come out

05:53We're off. Well, it's certainly a pricey part of the world, but as always, my aim will be to find
05:57these two their dream holiday home.
05:59It certainly helps that they're open to suggestions. We're staying here in Villanova Il Al Geltru, as that's the location
06:06of our first property.
06:07And on the way to it, I thought we'd make a quick stop off to check out the town's main
06:11square.
06:12So, on our journey of discovery, I brought us to the beautiful town square of Villanova Il Al Geltru.
06:20Beautiful. This is one of the reasons for us moving here. Yeah, I love the architecture, love the noise, the
06:28atmosphere.
06:29Yeah. It's just really nice. There's a real hustle and bustle going on here.
06:33I mean, Sarah, maybe Nigel, shopping. Walking up and down here, there's a plethora of shops where you could just
06:40really get lost in.
06:41But also, there is a really nice cafe culture here as well. Close your eyes. Yeah. And you just open
06:48them and imagine where you are and open them again.
06:50And it's quite unbelievable that you are here in Spain. Yeah. It's just a great feeling. Fantastic.
06:56Great transport links. Wow. Exactly. Exactly. It's got everything.
07:00Six minutes on foot is our first property. Wow. Fantastic.

07:10Villanova Il Al Geltru is around 40 minutes train ride from the centre of Barcelona.
07:14And that great location, combined with everything else this town has to offer, makes it very popular with buyers, mostly
07:21Castellonians.
07:23And while it's not the most expensive part of the Costa del Garraf, prices are on the high side, meaning
07:28I've had to go quite a way into Sarah and Nigel's wiggle room with property number one.
07:33Just a short walk away from the centre of Villanova, we find ourselves looking at our first property.
07:42The train station is a seven-minute walk away from here.
07:47The property is a two-bedroom, two-bathroom townhouse.
07:53Brilliant. OK.
07:55It has a fantastic roof terrace, a fantastic garage downstairs, with the potential to be converted into another bedroom slash
08:06living space.
08:07Oh, OK. Yeah. I love it already.
08:10Yeah? Yeah. Yeah, that's a lot to take in.
08:12And it's on the market for just over £259,000.

14:18It's in the seaside town of Calafé, which is about an hour on a train from Barcelona.
14:23And it's one of the more affordable parts of the Costa del Garraf, popular with Catalonian
14:28locals and second homeowners.
14:30I may have gone slightly over budget here, but I've managed to find them a fab apartment
14:35close to the beach.
14:37And it has not three, but four bedrooms too.
14:39Now, up there is our second property.
14:44It's a little bit of a concrete jungle.
14:46Ideal location for the beach.
14:49And really close to the railway line.

21:06And so far, I've banged myself one solid contender, and I still have three more houses
21:11to try and impress them.
21:13My house hunters, who have a budget of £250,000 with an additional £15,000 wiggle room, were
21:19really keen on this townhouse.
21:20But would ideally have liked it to have more than two bedrooms.
21:24And even though Nigel was a fan of our last place, a four bedroom apartment, Sarah definitely
21:29wasn't.
21:30So I need to get her back on side with my next property.
21:33It's in an urbanisation called Rocamar, just outside the town of San Pere de Ribes,
21:38a largely residential area which is mainly home to Catalonians, though there are some British,
21:44French and Belgian residents here as well.
21:46It's also a pretty pricey area, so I've had to go a fair way into Sarah and Nigel's
21:50Wiggle Room.
21:52So, we find ourselves in the lovely community of Rocamar.

22:32The first part of the property is a three bedroom, one bathroom apartment where no work needs

26:58Somewhere which I think combines the best of both of those.
27:02We find ourselves in a section of a beautiful hiking trail by the glorious beach in Villanova.

27:46However, I've been assured there is a bit of wiggle room here as well.
27:51So, this is our fourth property.

35:42Price-wise, it's mid-range for the Costa del Gara.
35:45But for this one, I've had to go a titsy bit over their maximum budget.
35:50This is our fifth property.
35:52We're literally a minute's walk away from the beach.
35:55Three bedrooms, two bathrooms, lovely front terrace and a back, plus a balcony.

42:18The apartment downstairs, there was two windows that was overlooking the garden, which prevented it from being really private.
42:26It would have been a bit strange sitting in the garden and somebody's window was looking directly at you.

42:33And then we had our last property, which was a semi-dispatched house close to the beach.
