00:15When I sat down with Kyle looking at cinematics,
00:17the first thing we did on all of them is we sat together
00:19and we said, what was the intention?
00:22And so I was like, hey, the reason he salutes there
00:24or the reason he hesitates there or the reason
00:26what we were trying to get across was this.
00:28Now's our time. And so Kyle and I
00:30went back through and found places where we
00:32can say, oh, this is more meaningful. This is
00:34more interesting. This is how we would have done it
00:35if we had the time originally.
00:43You know, our first
00:43step in the process was to sit down and watch
00:46everything and get Rod's feedback on it
00:48and really kind of focus on those key
00:50moments that he wanted to really, you know,
00:52nail. So what we wanted to do
00:54was work on Ron's execution
00:56of Min. There's a lot that went into that
00:58moment and trying to make you hate
01:00Rom, show his power,
01:03and then transition
01:05the power within the squad
01:06to Marcus. On all the cinematics for this
01:08Gears game, we kind of had already
01:10a template in place
01:12from the original. We tried to punch up some of the
01:14sequences and storyboarding was kind of integral
01:16to that, kind of figuring out what we wanted
01:18to play up, what we wanted to
01:20kind of keep the same. We wanted to
01:22and get it a lot grittier, and that was really fun
01:24as far as, especially from an animation
01:26standpoint, because we could really, you know,
01:28we had these big stunt guys that came in
01:29and picked each other up and stabbed and, like,
01:31kicked them across the room, which was really fun to shoot.
01:34The animators had a great time working on that as well.
01:36The death of Min was really
01:38challenging. Whenever we get an
01:40effects shot, we just want to go in and
01:41blow the person apart, but of course
01:44with Min we had to be restrained.
01:46We added more edits, more cuts,
01:48but tried to keep that kind of documentary
01:50handheld style almost like an
01:52opera, like you just, it's
01:54this gory scene, but it's
01:56you want to kind of make it beautiful too.
01:58So, we can get really tight on characters
02:00now. We can do full facial close-ups
02:02and get all the subtlety. It's a lot more
02:04believable, and it's a lot, you know, it's definitely
02:06grounded more in reality now.
02:07So, you know, even the details of the wrinkles
02:10and the skin sliding over bone
02:12and all of those kind of things
02:14really helped to sell the
02:16emotion of those characters.
02:17Now when we show Marcus watching Min get
02:19executed by Rom, we get right up
02:21in his face, so you can just kind of see the
02:23emotion, and it's really believable.
02:25You know, when you look at Chopper Crash, the original Chopper Crash,
02:28Min spends a lot of time kind of
02:29unaware of Rom behind him. We had him
02:31like notice sooner in turn, and then try
02:33to shoot and try to take on Rom, and then
02:35Rom defeats him even though he's sort of
02:37bringing an attack. You know, smooth this out,
02:39but also puts more meaning into
02:41Min's death, that he actually didn't just get caught
02:43by surprise, that he actually saw the
02:46threat and attempted taking it head on,
02:48but still to no avail.
02:56We will win this war.
02:58It's only a matter of time.
03:00Let's try to make a difference.
03:00Well, I've got to try to think of your
03:00breathtaking, and forwarding time next.
03:01From me on A town, at the town and
03:05our city, at the town, in power.
03:08Grazie a tutti
