00:05Welcome to Rocksteady Studios and Episode 3 of Arkham Insider
00:09Today we're going to be getting intimate with three key characters from Batman Arkham Knight
00:13And as always we're going to be feeling the heat, taking questions from the community
00:30I want you to imagine a city, a city broken and crushed under our feet
00:38Take that picture, hold on to it, we'll make it happen
00:59And here we are once again on the world's most comfortable couch
01:02This time I'm joined by Rocksteady's lead character artist, Albert
01:05Big Albert, how are you doing?
01:07I'm very good, thank you very much
01:08We're coming to the end of the production of the game
01:12You're looking pretty relaxed, you feeling good?
01:14Yeah I'm feeling good, bring it on, I said bring it on to the next one
01:18Right on, now as lead character artist you have got an immense responsibility for the design of characters within the
01:25Arkhamverse
01:26We're going to look at a few right here, the first one being the Arkham Knight
01:30And what we know about him is he's the commander of this immense military force that has invaded Gotham City
01:35So talk us through how the reality of his role in the game has influenced the design of him as
01:40a character
01:41So his role in the game, ultimately he works with Scarecrow to take down the Bat
01:46So his design was ultimately made just for that role
01:51Obviously he's got a very military look to him, like he's got the antennas that reflect the Bat ears
01:58It's kind of a mockery of the Batman, he can pull it off as well
02:01He can pull it off as well, he also has this visor that has all sorts of information about what's
02:05going on in the city
02:07Like a heads up display within his visor
02:10So there's a map on the forehead, he's got like a little other one there with all the drones that
02:14are tracking everything that's happening in the city
02:16So that's his role
02:18And on the other hand, he's also a very military dude, right?
02:21So he's wearing this camouflage and that's like it's being cloned to the whole of his forces
02:28So the militia forces, the soldiers have it, tanks have it, the drones have it
02:33Yeah
02:33You can really tell that these guys are the Arkham Knight forces
02:37Yeah
02:38And that's the main trait to distinguish them
02:41Now let's have a look at the big bad, Scarecrow
02:43So clearly Scarecrow is the mastermind, the puppet master
02:47Yes
02:47The guy who's coordinating the forces of the rogues gallery to take down Batman as a collective force of evil
02:55We haven't seen him since Arkham Asylum and he didn't appear at all in Batman Arkham City
02:59He's back in Batman Arkham Knight
03:01How has that journey affected and influenced the character design of Scarecrow this time around?
03:06Well Scarecrow, the message we're trying to send with this design is he's come back stronger than ever, meaner than
03:12ever
03:12It took ages to develop his face and the hood and the way everything works together
03:16Like the skin is kind of melted with the rugged sack cloth, you know, like his gut and it's falling
03:22off with strings
03:23And he's got this evil look like almost like you can't have a real connection with his eyes
03:28Right
03:28He's always, always keeping himself inside
03:31Yeah
03:31You can see he wears all the fear toxin all around him
03:35It's like that's his armour, that's also his weapon, he kind of wraps himself in fear toxin
03:40Yeah, yeah, yeah, and that causes so much threat, right?
03:43Yeah
03:43Like if you take me out, well something bad's gonna happen
03:45Yeah
03:45So it is, it is very, yeah, that's pretty much it
03:49Sweet, now let's have a look at the big man himself
03:51Batman in Batman Arkham Knight looks like he's ready for war
03:54Talk us through the design of the new Batsuit
03:57Well in a nutshell, he's ready to take out the Arkham Knight forces
04:00Yeah
04:01He's ready to take out the Scarecrow and yeah, the Batsuit needs to reflect that
04:05It needs to reflect, he's more flexible, he's stronger, he can move faster
04:08He can take all the force that he takes to glide around the city at incredible heights
04:13So the cape has been implemented not around the rim of the cowl but underneath the armour padding
04:19And as you can see the chest armour is flexible, it separates
04:23The Batsuit is still his strongest bit
04:26Yeah
04:26As is traditional in the Batman universe in the Arkham games
04:30Shoulder pads, you know, boots, gauntlets, that's like traditional Batman
04:35So those classic features but to this kind of heavily militarised level
04:39Yeah, yeah, he needs to be heavily militarised
04:42His design is to reflect that of the Batmobile
04:44Yeah, because I think there's a real kind of connection and crossover
04:46between the design of the Batmobile and the design of this Batsuit
04:49that I just think marries perfectly
04:50Yes, when we got the design from the Batmobile
04:53We were like, yeah, we're going to do a Batman that fits the Batmobile
04:57We kind of took all the shapes, took all the colours, the materials
05:00And tried to make them, you know, like, to make a connection between the two
05:05Yeah
05:05So human and machine
05:06Man and machine together
05:08That's it
05:08Facing down the forces of the Arkham Knight and Scarecrow
05:11You said it, man
05:12Boom
05:12Alright, Albert, it's clear that more than just a little bit of love
05:15has gone into the creation of these characters over the last four years
05:18How do you think Batman fans are going to react when they play Batman Arkham Knight?
05:22Well, we hope that they're going to love the designs
05:24We always watch for what they say on YouTube, what they say in the forums
05:28Make sure that all the feedback is addressed as much as possible
05:30Because they are the people who know about Batman, right?
05:34Yeah
05:34And so I just want to make sure that everything is good with them, it's good with us
05:38Everyone's happy
05:39So yeah, four years, this is it
05:41A whole lot of love
05:42Yeah, a whole lot of love, man
05:43That was Albert the Character King here at Rocksteady Studios
05:51We're joined once again by Ian Ball, lead designer
05:53Of course Albert is back
05:54Question number one comes in from Brandon
05:56Boom
05:57And he asks
05:59Does the Batmobile get its own talent tree like gadgets and physical abilities?
06:03Ian, this sounds like one for you
06:04It is and the Batmobile does have its own talent tree
06:07You can upgrade the weapons
06:08You can upgrade the different systems inside the Batmobile
06:11Which will allow Batman to eject higher and further out of the car quicker
06:15Nice
06:15Fire more weapons, upgrade the firepower
06:17There's loads of different upgrades for the Batmobile
06:20Just like Batman himself
06:21The onboard weaponry, all of the systems
06:23They've all got their own development trees
06:24They do
06:26Number two comes in from The Tenth
06:29And they ask
06:30What was the hardest character to adapt slash design for the next-gen graphics?
06:34Albert, this one's right down your street
06:36I would say that was Poison Ivy
06:38Okay
06:38Getting that design to work
06:40I mean such realism
06:42And then trying to get the subtleties on the skin
06:45And just trying to get that beauty and transferred into the next-gen without
06:50You know going too crazy
06:52It was a real challenge
06:53And it looks awesome
06:54Thanks
06:54Nice job
06:55Question number three
06:57Hedby asks
06:58What was the design and decision-making process for the looks of the characters?
07:02Normally it starts with going to the design team and the script team
07:07Yeah
07:07Just seeing what's going on with the character
07:09What stories behind it
07:10What details can we get
07:11Then we meet with the art director
07:13And we try to squeeze as many thoughts as we can
07:15Work on you know like silhouettes
07:18Work on details
07:18And then once we are hands-on just keep on iterating for the character until the project's over pretty much
07:25Because you guys you've been polishing for what feels like years now
07:28Yeah
07:28It's been it's been a long process
07:31Nice
07:32Tagger 101 comes at us with this
07:34How hard was it to find a balance between Batman and the Arkham Knight ability-wise?
07:39Ian Ball
07:39Batman and the Arkham Knight are very evenly matched
07:42It's like the immovable object in the unstoppable force
07:44They're clashing
07:45Batman's got the Batmobile the Arkham Knight has got his whole military force behind him
07:49Something's got to give but which way is he going to go?
07:51Thank you very much for hitting us with those
07:53We will get around to answering each and every other question that comes in as soon as we can
07:59I wish we could do this all day long but we can't
08:01That's it for this episode of Arkham Insider
08:03Let us know what you thought down in the comments
08:06And we'll see you next time
08:07And until then be the Batman
08:17von Bat SY richtig
08:19Von Leon
08:20As an owner
08:20Don't you want to believe so
08:20It's Haha
08:27You
08:44Don't you want to believe so
08:45I hate that
08:45I love God
08:45But co
08:45Grazie a tutti.
