00:06La Mega Man Legacy Collection è iniziata ora per portare 6 classici Capcom games
00:10a moderni platforme, ma questo non è un porto basso, è una riproduzione
00:14usando le source elementi a creare una vera, future-proved versione
00:17di tutti i 6 games.
00:19Ma perché sono questi 6 games così importanti, interessante e divertenti?
00:23Let's take a quick look ati all 6 games per vedere come hanno cambiato
00:26over time, and how they became some of gaming's most revered adventures.
00:30Back in 1987, most 8-bit games took you from level to level, guiding you on a predetermined path.
00:35Mega Man 1 flipped the script by giving players a choice to tackle the 6 stages in any order we
00:40wanted.
00:41And part of the reason for this choice was what happened once you beat one of the stages.
00:45You actually stole the boss's weapon and could use it on the other bosses.
00:49This meant not just a rock-paper-scissors relationship among those bosses,
00:52but an elaborate mystery that kept school playgrounds abuzz with conversations
00:56about which boss was weak to the other, what order you should tackle the levels in,
01:00and all this happened years before the internet and even before many game magazines were widely available.
01:05The first few Mega Man games are kind of light on story, but the general premise
01:09Dr. Wily steals 6 industrial robots and reprogrammed them for violence,
01:13was enough to get most kids on board.
01:15One other quick note about the first game, a small note about Mega Man himself,
01:19his idol animation.
01:20Most game characters in the AD simply stood there, paralyzed without your input.
01:25Mega Man, on the other hand, blinked through the TV,
01:27suggesting he knew what to do but was simply awaiting your orders.
01:31A blinking character may not seem like a big deal today,
01:34but little details like this help make the character and the world feel real.
01:38A world that would only grow with Mega Man 2.
01:41Now you may have missed Mega Man 1, either because you never saw it at a rental shop
01:45or because the box art scared you away.
01:47But Mega Man 2 made a huge splash thanks to a dramatic opening that's inspired homages and parodies for years.
01:53Right away you can see improvements in the character select screen, the backgrounds,
01:57the variety of weapons obtained from the bosses.
02:00Just about everything in Mega Man 2 was stunning in its day.
02:03This is especially true of some of the bosses waiting for you in Dr. Wily's castle.
02:07But before you got to the castle, you had to tackle 8 all-new robots designed to send Mega Man
02:12to the Scrap Heap.
02:13These robot masters are great one-on-one battles in and of themselves,
02:17but the stages that lead up to them are some of the most iconic levels of all time.
02:21Flash Man's slippery tiles, Heat Man's mind-shredding platform section,
02:25and of course, Quick Man's insta-kill beams of death.
02:28After defeating certain bosses, Mega Man's creator, Dr. Light, would complete new items for your use,
02:33handily named item 1, 2, and 3.
02:36These are useful throughout the game,
02:38but if you're ready to walk down the speedrun path,
02:40they're also a great way to skip portions of the level.
02:43This all adds up to a rock-solid game design that rapidly doles out new weapons and abilities
02:48while simultaneously challenging you with ingenious level design and boss battles.
02:53It's that very formula that helped make Mega Man 2 stand the test of time.
02:59That formula is expanded and arguably perfected in Mega Man 3,
03:03where 8 robots once again menace our hero.
03:05Not to be outdone, Dr. Light creates Rush, Mega Man's robot dog,
03:09to replace the items from Mega Man 2.
03:11Plus, Dr. Light gives Mega Man a new ability,
03:13teaching him how to slide through narrow areas or underneath enemies.
03:17We're also treated to some very interesting level design,
03:19like Snake Man's Serpentine Dungeon and Gemini Man's moon swamp filled with penguins.
03:26After beating the initial 8 robots in Mega Man 1 and 2,
03:29you'd usually go straight to Dr. Wiley's castle and march towards the end of the game.
03:33But starting with Mega Man 3, you'd get an additional set of levels before tackling the castle.
03:37Levels that put your newly equipped Mega Man through his paces.
03:40In this case, the new stages are battle-damaged, reimagined areas that you just played through,
03:45but now with different layouts, enemy placement, and, strangely enough,
03:48husk robots that behave like the Mega Man 2 bosses.
03:52And perhaps most importantly, Mega Man 3 introduces Proto-Man, the bot built before Mega Man.
03:58Proto-Man debuts as a frenemy who sometimes attacks you,
04:02and other times helps you find your way to the boss.
04:06His intentions are made a bit clearer by the end of the game,
04:08where he saves Mega Man from certain destruction.
04:12While there was a semblance of a story with Mega Man 1 and 2,
04:15Part 3's ending really starts to craft an ongoing narrative that persists across the upcoming sequels.
04:21Especially Mega Man 4, which opens with a lengthy cutscene.
04:27With Dr. Wily seemingly defeated, a new villain rises to take his place.
04:31Meet Dr. Cossack, a genius inventor who not only boasts that he's the greatest scientist of all time,
04:36but also sends his creations to take over the world.
04:40Not sure how Toad Man fits into that plan, but hey, at least he can dance.
04:45This new threat prompts Dr. Light to invent the Mega Buster,
04:48a new default weapon that fires standard shots as well as a powerful burst.
04:52Mega Man is also outfitted with a grappling hook and a balloon item,
04:55which are discovered by exploring some of Mega Man 4's hidden paths.
04:59These new items are just the first step in an ongoing arms race between Dr. Light and Dr. Wily,
05:05as each game adds more and more weapons to Mega Man's arsenal.
05:08Oh wait, did we just spoil the fact that Dr. Wily's back?
05:11Well, it turns out he survived the end of Mega Man 3,
05:13and blackmailed Dr. Cossack into attacking Mega Man.
05:16This fact is revealed to us by none other than Proto Man,
05:19who now seems to truly be on the side of good.
05:21So as you can see, story really does take center stage in Mega Man 4.
05:25In addition to that opening, we also get an interlude with Cossack and his daughter Kalinka,
05:29and an explosive ending that shows Dr. Wily's latest castle crumbling into dust.
05:37However, not long after that happens, Proto Man goes nuts and kidnaps Dr. Light,
05:42setting the events of Mega Man 5 into motion.
05:44With another eight robots on the rampage, Mega Man and Rush spring into action.
05:48Since Dr. Light is MIA, Dr. Cossack steps up and adds some extra oomph to the Mega Buster,
05:53giving it additional stopping power and a new look to Booth.
05:56He also creates the helpful birdbot Beat, who can help Mega Man in battle,
06:00but only after you've spelled out Mega Man 5 in giant letters hidden around the world.
06:04Hey, Cossack's still working out the kinks on this one.
06:07At this point, developers knew a lot more about their 8-bit hardware,
06:10and it shows in Mega Man 5 with more elaborate backgrounds
06:13and inventive stages that messed with your expectations.
06:16And as always, the music is among the best the era ever had.
06:24We won't dig into the story too much this time,
06:26but suffice it to say Proto Man may or may not be the true villain of this tale.
06:33The Blue Bomber's 8-bit era concludes with Mega Man 6,
06:36which sees a mysterious man named Mr. X arranging a global robot tournament.
06:41Naturally, this ends with Mr. X stealing all the robots and then, you guessed it,
06:45attempting to take over the world.
06:47Dr. Light responds by creating two powerful suits of armor that give Mega Man all new abilities.
06:52They have their drawbacks, but it's also just cool to fly around and explore the levels.
06:57Speaking of the levels, while prior games did offer branching paths,
07:01Mega Man 6 has quite a few areas where you have more than one route to choose from.
07:06Four of these alternate paths are there just to lure you away from the stage's true bosses.
07:10All of this just scratches the surface of what makes these games so much fun.
07:14We didn't even mention all the cool mini-bosses,
07:16the great Mega Man 2 ending,
07:18Eddie the sorta-helpful-but-not-really robot.
07:20There's so much to play and enjoy that just these six games alone,
07:23beautifully restored, are a great entry point to the series.
07:27But for longtime fans, Mega Man Legacy Collection also comes with a music player,
07:31hundreds of pieces of high-res production art,
07:33old flyers from the 80s and 90s,
07:35a challenge mode with online leaderboards,
07:37and lots more nifty features detailed over on Capcom Unity.
07:41The most important detail, of course, is the price.
07:43Just $14.99 for the digital versions available now,
07:46with a $29.99 physical version, coming in 2016.
07:49The most important detail, of course, in 2018.
07:50Thank you.
07:51Thank you.
07:51To be rumped, let's see.
07:53Grazie a tutti.
