00:04and their new release Quantum Break which is coming out soon, can't wait for it
00:08but while we're here as well, Sam Lake said that he's totally going to take me off on my snowball

00:13so I'm going to go in, warm up and try and find him, so let's go
00:35Oh, hey Greg, have you seen Sam come through here?
00:38I haven't seen Sam, but whilst you're here, do you want to see how I'm making Quantum Break at Remedy?
00:42Yeah, sure
00:43Yeah, sure, okay, so this is the world editor, so basically this is the tool we use to create the
00:49levels, put in all the great animations, all the environment art and storytelling
00:52but the cool thing about it is it actually started out as the tool for Max Payne
00:56it was called Max Ed and then Max Ed 2 for Max Payne 2
01:00world editor was for Alan Wake and now it's, obviously we're up to Quantum Break so this is how we
01:04make Quantum Break
01:05Oh, amazing, what would you say is the most important thing you do here then?
01:08As a narrative designer I bring the story but also as an Australian I bring Vegemite to the people of

01:13Yeah, that's very important, very important, speaking of people of Finland, I'm going to go and try and find Sam
01:18because we've got to have this snowball fight, I'm really looking forward to it

01:38Wow, this stuff looks really cool, what are you doing here?
01:41Well, I'm tweaking the lights for the surface capture
01:44So is this all the performance capture that you do?
01:47No, this is basically a high detail facial performance capture
01:51We record the actor's full performance in the States, in the bigger studios
01:56So we record the audio, face, fingers, body there
02:01Once that is over, we come here and shoot in higher detail
02:04And then actually this is, let's say this is medium quality performance in our scale
02:08So the studio capture in the States that's like low end for us
02:13This is medium
02:13And then on the other room we have an even better scanner that does like really high detail scans
02:19That we use to construct the actual models of the actors
02:21And this data here is driving that high detail model
02:25So Sam Leake is the face of Max Payne, how have things changed since he did that?
02:29When we started doing this we took eight pictures of the character's head
02:33You know, from eight directions
02:34Used that for modelling the head and texturing the head
02:38So this has nine cameras shooting 60 frames per second
02:42It's a lot more
02:44It's one second of data from here is more than all the heads in Max Payne one
02:59Oh hey Richard, have you seen Sam around? I've been trying to find him
03:03No sorry, I haven't seen him at all
03:05But I can show you what we're doing if you like
03:06Oh yeah, yeah sure
03:07Basically the audio for Quantum Break is the driving force behind studders
03:11And we've had to design a whole system to actually stretch the audio and manipulate the audio
03:15Based on the time comparison in the game
03:25Oh that sounds amazing
03:26So like what you see on screen is exactly what you hear
03:29What you hear, basically it's the one on one connection
03:31That's brilliant, oh thanks for that
03:33I'm going to go and try and find Sam still

04:52I went into sauna, warmed up a little bit and then had a go on Quantum Break and it's looking
04:56amazing
