00:00Carson Benj has made this team. The Mets have not announced that officially. And unless the Mets are committed to
00:07a Tachman-Taylor combination in right field, then Benj is going to make it.
00:12It wasn't like David Stearns stood up at a podium and said he's going to make the team. But part
00:20of his press conference, right after the 2025 collapse, he would leave an open spot for young players. And he's
00:29talked specifically that Benj would go to spring training with a chance to win a job.
00:33It's not just that the numbers are good, and the numbers are very good, but numbers could be deceiving in
00:39spring. If you watch Benj play baseball, he looks like he belongs with a major league group.
00:46He moves that way on the field. He moves that way among his teammates. And I think it would look
00:52and send the wrong message to the rest of the prospect base if Benj honored exactly what David Stearns asked
01:01him to honor, and then he didn't make this team.
01:04If he finishes first or second for NL Rookie of the Year, he gets a full year of service time.
01:09If he finishes first and the Mets keep him on the roster the whole year, the Mets would get a
01:13draft pick if he wins Rookie of the Year after the first round in 2027.
01:18There's every reason in the world for him to be on this roster, and I think you could connect the
01:23dots from Bo Bichette playing shortstop on Friday to Carson Benj making this Mets team.
