Watch this clip where a quick-thinking family avoids an expensive ER visit after their five-year-old gets a pom pom stuck up his nose during school.
Heavyn Buchanan from Chiefland, FL, USA, was called to pick up her son after he lodged an art craft pom pom in his nostril, leaving it completely blocked and impossible to remove safely with tweezers.
She said: "It was blocking his whole nostril, so putting tweezers in to get it out would’ve only pushed it back further.
"I really didn’t want to take him to the ER unless we absolutely had to due to it being so expensive and no one likes to go to an ER. My boss who I was speaking to during all of this because I had to leave work, suggested that I try using a vacuum cleaner to suck it out.
"We don’t have a vacuum cleaner, but we had a shop vac which is similar, so we decided to try it. My husband put it up to his nose and it wouldn’t come out at first, but after my son blowed his nose at the same time as the powerful suction, it finally came out."
