00:02Welcome back to the Community Stage here at the PlayStation Experience 2015.
00:07Oh, hello, Beanbag Section.
00:09Hi, guys.
00:10How are you?
00:12I am so, so excited for this.
00:15I've got Nick Acordino here with me,
00:17and we are about to see Gravity Rush HD.
00:20Gravity Rush Remastered,
00:23one of my favorite Vita games,
00:27one of my just all-time favorite games.
00:30Oh, thank you.
00:30I am so excited to see this coming to the PS4.
00:33Yep.
00:34I am so ready for you to show it off.
00:35I am very ready to show it off, too.
00:38Excellent.
00:38So set us up for the area of the game that we're in here.
00:41We're kind of early game.
00:42Sure, yes.
00:43We're actually going to be going into Stage 6.
00:46The world of Hexville, which is where the story takes place,
00:49is kind of being torn apart.
00:51There's a lot of kind of interdimensional portals opening up.
00:55Weird things are happening.
00:56So the next mission is actually going to take us
00:59on a mission to try and put things right.
01:01So that's where we're going.
01:02And if people have not played Gravity Rush before,
01:05let's give kind of the top line of what happens,
01:08what's going on.
01:09So our heroine, Kat, wakes up in this really mysterious city
01:13with her memories gone, right?
01:15And she finds out that when she's near this very cute,
01:19very mysterious little cat,
01:21she actually has control of gravity.
01:24She has gravitational powers.
01:25So she can actually set the direction of gravity,
01:28climb on walls, fly through the air.
01:30She's actually falling.
01:32Yeah.
01:32But it lets her do a lot of really cool things.
01:35And she quickly falls into the role of being a heroine in this city.
01:39So she's trying to do her best to make things right,
01:42at the same time not make anybody angry.
01:44Right.
01:45Right.
01:45That's awesome.
01:46And I love this because it really does,
01:48when you're using Kat's powers,
01:50Yes.
01:51She just looks like she's falling.
01:53She looks like she's out of control falling.
01:55It's definitely a rush.
01:56And it's one of my favorite, favorite things
01:58because it doesn't look like flying.
02:00It doesn't look like she's fully in control of anything.
02:03Yep.
02:04So let's get into it.
02:05Yeah, absolutely.
02:06All right.
02:06So we're going to begin the mission right now.
02:09Kind of the first thing we can show off
02:10is this cool comic book style.
02:14You know, I really describe this,
02:16and Toyama-san, who's the director,
02:18has gone on record as saying
02:20that it's really inspired by those, like,
02:21Mobius comics from the 70s and 80s.
02:24It's got that beautiful Franco-Belgian look to it.
02:28So not too Eastern, not too Western.
02:30Something kind of in the middle
02:31has this nice, soft glow.
02:33If you remember on the Vita version,
02:35you could actually move the Vita
02:36and swipe through these pages.
02:38We can actually do that, too.
02:40You can notice you can kind of move it around
02:42just like this.
02:43Everything from the Vita version,
02:45in terms of controls,
02:46has been transferred pretty beautifully
02:47to the DualShock 4.
02:49And that's from our good friends at Bluepoint Games,
02:52in addition to Japan Studio,
02:55who put this out.
02:56You know, Bluepoint are the guys
02:58that put out the Nathan Drake collection.
03:00They've done work on the Eco and Shadow Colossus collection.
03:03They've done a bunch of great stuff.
03:04So in terms of remasters,
03:05we couldn't have put this
03:08in any better person's hands.
03:09They are the guys to handle it, for sure.
03:11So here we are getting sucked
03:12into this other realm by the creator.
03:17And let's get going.
03:20So I'm going to kind of skip through
03:21a bit of the dialogue
03:23just so that I can make sure
03:24to show you guys some of the action.
03:27I'd like to show off some of the controls, too.
03:29So very simply,
03:30left stick is going to move Cat around.
03:32X is going to jump.
03:34And then Cat's main mode of attacking
03:37is actually kicks.
03:39So these are our enemies right here.
03:41They're called the Nebi.
03:43And they conveniently have
03:45these nice weak points on top of them
03:47that let me target them pretty easily.
03:50But again, the game is called Gravity Rush, right?
03:53So Cat can actually float in the air
03:55when I hit the R button.
03:56And then I can kind of freely fly around.
04:01I should say fall around
04:02and go wherever I like.
04:04So I'm actually going to aim
04:05at this guy down here,
04:07hit square,
04:08to do a nice homing attack
04:09just like that.
04:11Man, it's like the most satisfying feeling
04:13in the world, too.
04:14And you'll notice these Nebi
04:16come in all sorts of different shapes and sizes.
04:19Sometimes they're a little bit trickier
04:21to hit than others.
04:28Bear with me.
04:29This guy likes the side of this building.
04:44He's trying to show me up.
04:46There we go.
04:48All right.
04:50He knew you were live streaming right now.
04:52Only eight times to hit that first enemy.
04:55So yeah, we're going to be
04:55kind of following the flowers over here.
04:57They're going to go from point to point.
04:58Show us where to go.
05:00And if you haven't noticed,
05:02Gravity Rush is kind of,
05:03it's a great open world game.
05:05Definitely on Vita,
05:05that was hugely unique.
05:08Beautiful open world games like this,
05:10I think, are very few and far between.
05:12So it's a pleasure.
05:13Well, and what I love about Gravity Rush
05:15is you're looking at this open world
05:17and you're thinking about like,
05:18well, I'll follow these paths,
05:19I'll go on the tops of these buildings.
05:21But something you really get used to
05:22the more you're playing the game is
05:24I can go on the underside of everything.
05:26You can.
05:26Every bridge has a top and a bottom.
05:28Every building has a system of pipes
05:32and earth underneath it.
05:33We can fight on walls.
05:35We can fight on ceilings.
05:36We can go anywhere.
05:40You'll notice,
05:40see that there's a bit of debris
05:43scattered over here.
05:44We can actually pick that up.
05:46It's another one of Cat's powers.
05:48And toss them at enemies.
05:51So there's a bunch of different ways
05:53to take out the bad guys over here.
05:55Also, if you're kind of a troll,
05:57you can just walk around on the street
05:59and float people randomly
06:00and make them fall on their face.
06:02You can make them fly within the air.
06:04Maybe I found that hilarious
06:06for like a really long time.
06:07Maybe I still find that hilarious.
06:09Maybe I'm a terrible person.
06:11It's fine.
06:11We have all these gems over here.
06:13The purple gems you see
06:14are actually going to let us level Cat up.
06:16So she has a bunch of really cool abilities
06:18that you can all strengthen.
06:23We also have,
06:24if you remember in the Vita game,
06:26because I know you were a fan,
06:27you could actually swipe the touch screen
06:29to make Cat dodge.
06:30That's actually mapped to the touchpad now.
06:34Oh, great.
06:35So very easily accessible.
06:39And if you hadn't noticed,
06:41is kind of the more distance I get
06:42from these enemies,
06:45the harder we actually hit.
06:48So...
06:50There we go.
06:51Now we expose the quick points.
06:58Notice this guy
07:00kind of has a trident attached to him.
07:06But again, like I said,
07:07we can fight on all the sides of walls,
07:09on the sides of buildings.
07:13And in bringing it,
07:15you know,
07:15you're mentioning some of these changes,
07:16like the dodge is now,
07:18swipe is now on the touchpad.
07:20Right.
07:21You know,
07:22in bringing it over from the Vita,
07:25what were some of the challenges,
07:26what were some of the changes,
07:27and what's the same
07:29about the way we control?
07:31I think everything
07:32has been translated
07:33really naturally, actually.
07:35if you were at all
07:37using a combination
07:39of, you know,
07:40of the gyro
07:40in the Vita,
07:42in that motion sensor,
07:44and the right stick,
07:46which is how I used to play,
07:47you should be right at home here.
07:48You should be able to do
07:49everything that you normally could.
07:50but yeah.
07:55So again,
07:56we're just kind of
07:57following the path up here.
07:58We have a cool little area over here.
08:01You can see all these nice gems lined up.
08:02So we're not actually,
08:04we're not only like seeking out enemies,
08:05we're also trying to grab
08:06as many of these as possible.
08:08If you remember,
08:08you can also do a gravity slide
08:11on the Vita version,
08:12that was by
08:13holding the back touchpad.
08:15Yeah.
08:15And this one,
08:16it's actually mapped
08:17to L2 and R2.
08:19So it's a bit easier to do.
08:22Trying to catch some guys
08:23in the air right now.
08:24Yeah.
08:24So as we're,
08:25as we're floating
08:26and we're following,
08:27and we're falling,
08:28we have kind of
08:28different things going on
08:30with our meter there.
08:31Yes.
08:31And as we're hitting enemies,
08:33it's affecting our meter.
08:34Can you talk a little bit about that?
08:35So the blue meter right there
08:37is kind of our stamina.
08:39The more we are in,
08:40is kind of gravity mode right now.
08:42And notice,
08:42I'm actually on a ceiling right now.
08:43Yeah.
08:44See the direction of cat's hair?
08:46You can see her hair.
08:46That's actually pointing
08:47into what we know
08:49is normal gravity.
08:50So when that runs out,
08:52we'll actually be in trouble.
08:53So you want to make sure
08:55that all of the attacking you do,
08:57everything is within
08:58that time limit, basically.
09:00So you can't just float around
09:01forever and ever.
09:02But as you're comboing
09:03and things like that,
09:04the meter is freezing
09:05for split seconds.
09:06So if you can chain things
09:08and get really good
09:09at falling with style,
09:11then you can make that meter
09:13last a really long time.
09:14Exactly.
09:16And again,
09:17that's something that you can level up
09:18as you're playing the game.
09:20So no real problems there.
09:23You can definitely make cats stronger
09:25in all sorts of different ways.
09:27So you notice apples
09:28are kind of a big theme
09:30throughout the game.
09:31It's an Isaac Newton reference.
09:32I think it's really cool.
09:34So what we actually did right now
09:35is we just acquired a new move.
09:39Get a little snapshot here.
09:40It's the Spiral Claw.
09:41So some of the enemies
09:42that we're actually going to be fighting
09:44are a little bit trickier
09:46to hit in the air.
09:47You know, kind of like
09:49that guy we were trying
09:50to fight before.
09:52Let's see if I can
09:53home in on this guy.
09:54Notice how I kind of
09:55slipped right past him?
09:59Just like that?
10:00Yeah.
10:00So if I hit triangle instead,
10:03we'll do this move.
10:04It'll kind of pull them in on them
10:06and take them out
10:07just like that.
10:09So like that,
10:10we will be acquiring
10:12all sorts of new moves,
10:14leveling cat up,
10:15really expanding our arsenal
10:17of what we can do.
10:17And that's great
10:18because like you're saying,
10:19even though we're in
10:19a specific mission right now,
10:22this is an open world game.
10:23You're in a giant city.
10:24So as you're unlocking
10:25more and more of these abilities,
10:27you're definitely able
10:28to find new things
10:29as you're moving along.
10:30That's right.
10:30To do side missions.
10:33This was, this,
10:34I mean, you were right
10:36when you were saying it.
10:36Like it was really
10:39just unbelievable to me
10:40when the,
10:41because this was close
10:42to the launch of the Vita.
10:43This was one of the first
10:44Vita games I grabbed.
10:45And just for it to be
10:46such a huge world
10:47with so much going on,
10:49really kind of just like
10:51surprised me
10:52and really showed me
10:53kind of like the things
10:54that we could expect
10:54from the Vita.
10:55and it's really exciting
10:56to be able to show people
10:58sort of something
10:58if they don't have a Vita,
11:00if they didn't pick up a Vita,
11:01this sort of gem
11:02that they missed,
11:03you know?
11:05Yeah, absolutely.
11:06I mean, the audience
11:08on the PS4,
11:10you know,
11:10we have a lot of
11:11amazing Vita fans
11:12that know exactly
11:14how wonderful this game is
11:15and are anxious
11:16to experience it again.
11:17But, you know,
11:17at the same time,
11:18there's a lot of people
11:19that might not have had
11:19a chance to play the game.
11:20So being able to show this,
11:22especially knowing
11:23that Gravity Rush 2
11:24is on the way soon.
11:27Yeah.
11:27We want people
11:28to be caught up
11:29with the story.
11:30We want them to be used
11:30to the way Cat controls
11:32and just kind of know
11:33this beautiful universe
11:36because the next game, too,
11:37is going to be
11:38pretty astounding.
11:40And again,
11:41also on PS4.
11:42So the more we can do
11:44to get people familiar,
11:46you know,
11:46I think the happier
11:46we will all be.
11:47I mean,
11:48that's going to be
11:48such a huge game.
11:50It's great that people
11:50are going to be able
11:51to jump in
11:52with this first one.
11:54So you'll see
11:55we're not only
11:56fighting little guys.
11:57I actually have
11:58a boss fight up here.
11:59So if I horribly
12:00embarrass myself again,
12:03there's a better reason
12:04for it.
12:05Great.
12:08I believe in you.
12:09Your magic is real, Nick.
12:10Right.
12:11So you can see
12:12this guy
12:14also has some
12:15of those weak points.
12:16I don't know
12:16if you can see him
12:17too easily.
12:20Not too hard
12:21to figure out
12:21where they are.
12:26That's right.
12:26Right at his eyes.
12:28Nice.
12:32He hits
12:33pretty hard, though,
12:35so I'm going to
12:35try and make sure
12:36I stay
12:38out of the way.
12:47nice.
12:49One more should do it.
12:52Yep, and now that
12:53we did that,
12:54he's kind of
12:54expanded outward.
12:57Nick, we're going to
12:58be jumping to a panel
12:59here in just a minute,
13:00but I wanted you
13:00to be able to talk
13:01about some of the
13:02extra stuff that's
13:03going to be included
13:03here on the PS4 version.
13:05Absolutely.
13:06So I'll jump out of
13:07that so that you can
13:08all experience the rest
13:09of that boss fight
13:09for yourselves.
13:11I promise that guy
13:12hits pretty hard,
13:13so it's not as easy
13:14as it looks.
13:15But yeah, one of the
13:16great new features
13:17in the game
13:17is this gallery mode
13:18we have.
13:19It actually has
13:20over 600 pieces
13:21of concept art
13:23and things that you
13:24probably have not
13:25seen before.
13:26I definitely have not.
13:28So here in the West,
13:29where we might not
13:30have gotten a really
13:31cool art book
13:31for Gravity Rush,
13:32I think this is
13:33pretty great.
13:35I mean, I've
13:35certainly never seen
13:36these concept art
13:38images of Cat at all.
13:41completely unrecognizable,
13:42if you ask me.
13:43And like you said,
13:44the environments
13:45and sort of the design
13:45and the influence
13:46of this game
13:48comes from so many
13:49things that we don't
13:50normally see in games.
13:52So it's kind of fun
13:53to be able to go through
13:54and actually see
13:55this artwork.
13:57Because it's so different
13:58than what you would
13:58normally see.
13:59All the enemies
14:00are in here.
14:01All of the movies
14:02in the game,
14:02the cut scenes
14:03are also in here.
14:04That is awesome.
14:05But yeah,
14:06so the game has
14:08upped visuals,
14:091080p,
14:09runs at 60fps.
14:11Great.
14:11So it's great.
14:12It's got this great
14:12gallery mode.
14:13And actually,
14:14all three pieces of DLC
14:16that came on the Vita
14:18version eventually
14:18are actually included
14:20in the package.
14:21That is so awesome.
14:22Nick, thank you so much,
14:23man, for coming
14:24and showing this off.
14:24You're welcome.
