00:06Today's test car is the MG S6. A purely electric C-segment SUV that aims to compete with Tesla
00:13Model Y or Skoda Enyaq. Whether it can and what else is got to offer, we'll check it out right
00:18now. Welcome to Red. The general driving impression in the car is very good, very comfortable.
00:34The suspension is quite soft. That makes it very well suited for long-distance driving.
00:40And despite the fact that the Portuguese roads are not in a very good condition, I find it
00:47rather silent in the interior.
00:55There are two different drivetrains for the S6. A rear-wheel driven one with 180 kilowatts,
01:02244 horsepower and an all-wheel driven one that has the same engine at the rear but an additional
01:08one at the front and gives you a system output of 266 kilowatts, 361 horsepower.
01:20Both versions have a top speed of 200 kilometers an hour, which is absolutely okay. The acceleration
01:27is 5.1 seconds for the all-wheel drive version and 7.3 seconds for the rear-wheel driven one,
01:34which is also absolutely decent. Both versions have a 77 kilowatt hour battery and that results in a range of
01:47around 530 kilometers for the rear-wheel driven version. The all-wheel drive will not get as far
01:55out since it uses additional energy for the additional power. We're talking around 460 kilometers of range.
02:06By the way, the top speed for the Tesla is the same, but the Skoda will only go up to
02:12180 kilometers an hour.
02:20Our test car is equipped with a head-up display. You can also adjust the brightness of that. So if
02:26it is
02:27too distracting during the night, then you can turn that down. And if you don't see it quite well during
02:32the day,
02:33you can turn it up. And I have to say, despite the sun shining quite bright at some points during
02:38the day,
02:39you still can read it without any problem. In fact, I had to turn it down a little because it
02:44was
02:45too bright and a little too distracting from the traffic. But I guess in the end that's personal
02:50preference. Unlike with a lot of cars, the head-up display comes as standard.
02:56The interior of the MGS6 is very luxurious. Everything looks and feels high quality, so I really like that
03:05fact. The only thing I don't really like is the high gloss black for the buttons at the steering wheel.
03:11But I like the fact that these are buttons and not touch operated.
03:18As we know, there are a lot of other cars where you can adjust the level of recuperation with
03:23pedals behind the steering wheel. That would have been good for this car as well. Unfortunately,
03:28it's not. The thing that is good though, with that star button, you can assign settings. And one of
03:35these is regenerative braking. So if I press this button, I will get a quick selection of the different
03:42regenerative braking settings. It is okay also because of the fact that if you press the button
03:48several times, it will cycle through the different options. What I like though, is the fact that you
03:58can adjust the AC with physical buttons, a turning knob and also a button to go up and down right
04:05here.
04:05And then you can adjust the temperature and also the level of ventilation.
04:13Another thing I like about the infotainment display is that you can change its appearance. So if you go to
04:23settings, then you can choose between the light and the dark theme. The dark theme is, of course,
04:29very nice for nighttime driving. You can also adjust the brightness, of course. But what I realized is,
04:36if you have the dark theme activated while daytime driving and it is quite sunny, like it is here in
04:43Portugal, then sometimes you won't see everything, especially on the navigation map. Fortunately though,
04:50you can choose and adjust a lot of things in that car. And that is also true for the navigation
04:55view.
04:56And as you can see, it can now be red quite easily compared to what it was before.
05:07The S6 has a length of 4 meter and 71 centimeters. And you can definitely feel that in the back,
05:14you have a lot of leg room left. The seat is still set to my height, 1 meter 80. And
05:21there is also
05:21a lot of headroom left, despite the fact that we have the panoramic glass roof in our test car.
05:31The seats are very comfortable. And even though you have the battery in the bottom of the car,
05:37you still don't have that phenomenon that your legs will be too much upright and therefore not
05:45resting on the seat. And that is also because the battery pack itself is not very high, 11 centimeters,
05:53which is quite flat.
06:00The trunk features a cargo volume of 674 to 1910 liters. And that is 200 liters more in maximum
06:09capacity than the Skoda Enyaq. And that is quite a bit. So if you plan to transport a lot of
06:15things,
06:15then this is the better choice.
06:22And as if all of the space in the back wouldn't be enough, there still is a frunk at the
06:28front,
06:30124 liters for the rear-wheel driven version. And if you have the all-wheel drive, it's still 102 liters,
06:37of course, because the additional electric motors at the front will take away some of the space.
06:50The thing that the MG S6 is not that good at is charging. The manufacturer claims a charging
06:58speed of up to 144 kilowatts and says it takes around 38 minutes to go from 10 to 80 percent.
07:11The brand of MG was founded in 1924 and it was quite successful during a lot of these years that
07:18it existed. But back in 2005, they had to file for bankruptcy because the cars were simply not
07:25selling anymore and they could not compete with all the other manufacturers.
07:33In 2006, a Chinese manufacturer then bought the trademark rights for the MG brand. And in the same
07:44year, they started selling their own cars under the MG badge in their home country, China, and also other markets.
07:59So, talking about their home market, since their revival in 2007, the brand has sold more than two
08:06and a half million cars. And that is only their own market. In the other markets, there are even
08:13additional cars being sold. So, it is quite successful. And it was only in 2021 that the Chinese decided to
08:22go back to Germany.
08:29In Germany, the entry-level price for the MG S6 is around 50,000 euros, just below it. And if
08:37you compare
08:38that, for example, to Skoda's Enyaq, that doesn't make a real difference. That one comes in at 48,900,
08:46so basically 49,000 euros. So, 1,000 euro less or more. In this price segment, that doesn't really make
08:53a difference.
08:58On the other hand, if you compare it to a Tesla Model Y, then you will be 10,000 euros
09:04less than this car
09:05or the Skoda. And that is quite a bunch of money. Of course, the Tesla won't be as comfortable, luxurious,
09:11or spacious as this car. But on the other hand, it will have a little more range and also some
09:18better
09:18driving specs. So, in the end, you will have to know what is important for your personal taste,
09:24for your personal style of driving. Do you need the additional power and a few kilometers of additional
09:30range? Or do you need comfort and also spaciousness?
09:38The manufacturer gives a seven-year or 150,000 kilometer warranty on the battery and the electric motors.
09:49All in all, the MG S6 is quite a decent car with a good price tag. It does not feature
09:56the high range
09:58as, for example, Tesla Model Y or Skoda Enyaq, but on the other hand, it's quite comfortable and also
10:04quite luxurious. The price tag is almost the same as the Skoda and if you think you don't need that
10:11much
10:11range but want a little more comfort and luxuriousness, then this might be the car for you.
10:18The MG S6 is among the more luxurious EVs on the market, especially in its price segment. It has
10:25almost everything you can wish for as standard equipment, a solid range, and a reasonable price
10:30tag. But charging is a little slow and a couple of interior elements would have been better without
10:36the high-gloss black finish.
10:38The MG S6 is a classic.
10:41The MG S7 is the same as the
