00:00Oh my God, it's comfortable, baby.
00:03Four sets of holiday hosts...
00:05Had a lovely stay, thank you.
00:06Take care now, see you soon.
00:08...have stayed at each other's places.
00:10Today, with all the visits over, scores are settled.
00:14You scored us three, which we found heartbreaking, to be honest.
00:19And the payments are revealed.
00:20Our bathroom was quite hairy.
00:22With four and a bed...
00:23We were quite taken aback when we heard the room price.
00:26Did anyone get a good night's sleep?
00:28It's just not how we want to do it.
00:30No, it's not. We're not going to change it.
00:31No.
00:38It's the final day of the competition to be named Best Value Place of the Week.
00:43The rival hosts are assembling one last time...
00:46..to find out what they've been paid and settle some scores.
00:51First up are Melissa Harrison and her mother, Fiona Livingstone.
00:56So, shall we kick things off?
00:59When the guests arrived at the courtyard in Falkirk, in the Forth Valley...
01:04Good morning.
01:05How are we doing?
01:05Welcome to the courtyard.
01:06John and Andrew thought they'd cleaned up.
01:09It looks very, very clean, which I like.
01:11Sue soaked the place in...
01:13Ooh!
01:14Ooh, this is nice.
01:15And while Cliff and Monica started in good spirits...
01:18So, what do you feel about the energy in this room?
01:21I think it's very positive.
01:22They soon lost their chill.
01:25There is no fridge here, sadly.
01:27Come morning, the guests found breakfast hot stuff.
01:31Oh, perfect.
01:33Nice good sausage.
01:34I love a bit of haggis.
01:37But at feedback...
01:38How were the facilities?
01:41It was the fridge that got the cold shoulder.
01:43Lack of the fridge in the room.
01:46There's no room in that bedroom for a fridge.
01:50Now around the table, Melissa and Fiona want to address the cool comments.
01:55You've mentioned the lack of fridge in the bedroom.
01:59Yes, when we travel, we do like to try and find somewhere that does have a fridge,
02:02because obviously we might want that cold drink.
02:03I think for that one, for us, you're aware of the size of the bedroom.
02:07It just doesnae allow for it.
02:09We've had to try and be pretty clever with what we've got.
02:11It would be nice, but there's just...
02:13There's nae way to put it.
02:15It's just not how we want to do it.
02:16No, it's not.
02:17We're not going to change it?
02:18No.
02:18Melissa and Fiona can now find out how much they've been paid,
02:22starting with Sue's stay, which came to £123.20.
02:32£123.20.
02:33That's full payment.
02:35Thank you very much, Sue.
02:35Yeah, I had a lovely stay.
02:37Next, it's Andrew and John's stay, which came to £136.95.
02:45£130, £135, £36.95.
02:50That's full payment, guys.
02:51Thanks very much.
02:52Yeah, no bother.
02:53I think we both loved it.
02:57Finally, it's Cliff and Monica's £136.50 stay.
03:03£130, £135, £36.50.
03:08That's full payment.
03:09Thank you very much, guys.
03:10You're very welcome.
03:11We had a lovely stay.
03:12Thank you so much.
03:13Obviously, we've got three full payments.
03:16Which is amazing.
03:16Hard work pays off.
03:18Yeah.
03:18With Brooklyn's Guest House, Domes by the Sea and Finn Village all paying in full, the
03:25courtyard finishes with a final bill average of 100%.
03:29Next to face their feedback are couple Cliff and Monica Clark.
03:33Let's begin, then.
03:36When the guests checked in at Finn Village in Loch Lomond.
03:40Hello.
03:41Hello.
03:41Good morning, ladies.
03:42At first, they lapped the place up.
03:45Wow.
03:45It smells very fresh and clean.
03:47That towel feels really, really nice.
03:50Wow.
03:51So this is a hot tub.
03:52I love it.
03:53But upon closer inspection.
03:55Oh, wow.
03:56Melissa and Fiona thought the extras didn't add up.
04:00That's a lot of stuff, isn't it?
04:02Wow.
04:02That seems really, really excessive.
04:03And John and Andrew poured cold water on their covered outdoor lounge.
04:08So I'm not a big fan of an inside hot tub.
04:10You're just in a bath inside.
04:12You've got nature right there.
04:13So I don't know why they felt the need to fill this room with fake nature.
04:18Really dislike it.
04:19I'm not a fan of lighting up signs.
04:22Bit tacky, really.
04:23During the afternoon out, the hosts shared their path to enlightenment.
04:27We wanted to look for better ways that we could sustain ourselves.
04:30Essentially some land where we could grow our own food.
04:34Because we're really into meditation and spirituality.
04:37Come morning, Melissa and Fiona pulled the plug.
04:41What are you doing down there?
04:42It's the only place that I can actually plug in my straighteners and sit in front of a mirror.
04:48And all took a bite out of breakfast.
04:50Breakfast, breakfast, come on.
04:52Cliff said it was going to be four minutes for the breakfast.
04:54It's been a bit longer, hasn't it?
04:55Cliff and Monica have spoken a lot about food waste and sustainability and things.
05:00I'm going to struggle to finish this.
05:02But come feedback, it was John and Andrew's facility score.
05:05I think we're all going to have to go quite low here.
05:08Like a three.
05:09Yeah.
05:09That left the hosts sore.
05:11Three.
05:13This is incredible.
05:16But before tackling the facility faux pas, Cliff and Monica want to get the full story.
05:21You gave us seven for the whole thing.
05:25And you said, story doesn't feel aligned with product.
05:30We were very confused.
05:32We found the whole stay very confusing, to be honest.
05:35The story and narrative you were telling us about your place just wasn't aligned with the product that we sort
05:41of found.
05:41You guys were saying it was peaceful, it was relaxing.
05:44It was all very, in my head, quite sustainable.
05:47And then we got there and it just felt so overindulgent, almost.
05:52So it just didn't align.
05:53I don't recall us talking about sustainability.
05:56Yeah, like meditation and relaxation.
05:59We do meditate.
06:00That's us personally, what we do to ourselves.
06:01We haven't got a retreat.
06:03You've sort of rated our business rather than obviously us as hosts.
06:08So we found it strange in that way.
06:10For us it's both.
06:11The way you speak about your business doesn't align with your business, in our opinion.
06:15But we were friendly to you, I hope.
06:17100%.
06:18Yeah, you're fantastic.
06:19You're lovely.
06:20We're not criticising it, but we've been...
06:22I think you did.
06:24It certainly wasn't a bad hosting experience at all because it was still very good.
06:30At seven.
06:31$70.
06:33I like number seven.
06:34It's number of heaven, so thank you for that.
06:39During Cliff and Monica's feedback, I felt attention start to develop.
06:43I felt like Monica was quite defensive in that situation, and I understand it's her baby,
06:49it's her business, I totally understand that.
06:52Next, the couple want answers from the brothers about their flat facilities feedback.
06:57So you scored us three for facilities, which we found heartbreaking, to be honest.
07:04You said that hot tub room contradicts our idea of glamping, feels indulgent.
07:10So can you explain that as well?
07:13For me, the real shame with your place was the view from the glamping pod is stunning.
07:18Absolutely stunning.
07:19And we felt, as soon as we went into the hot tub area, you lose the view.
07:23Did you notice the glass door and glass windows everywhere?
07:26Yeah, but at my height, I'm looking above it.
07:29And I just felt the plastic plants, plastic trees, the neon lights just wasn't what I expected with glamping.
07:37You have an absolute moneymaker of a view, and we felt your facilities were so unnecessary.
07:43So shall we remove stoves and...
07:46Honestly, I think you should.
07:48So just drop the glamping pod on the grass and that's it, yeah?
07:51No, like have your hot tub, and again, it's personal preference, but have your hot tub outside.
07:56So we have tried hot tub, and we know how winters are harsh in Scotland.
08:01I would love to be in a hot tub outside when it's rainy, windy, and I'm cold up top, and
08:05I'm so warm underneath.
08:06To me, that is absolute perfection.
08:09I don't think you ever experienced our weatherings in December.
08:12I'd imagine it was similar to ours. Like, it's wild, it's Scotland.
08:15I'm going to put the score down to a difference, obviously.
08:18Our idea of glamping to your idea of glamping.
08:21What you would expect is not what we are providing.
08:24John and Andrew scoring us three facilities, it's pretty much a joke.
08:28Obviously, we provide so much for our clients.
08:31I think the conversation was a little bit heated.
08:33We just tried our best to not make it personal and sort of back up the points we'd made, because
08:37we stand by them all.
08:39Cliff and Monica can now count their cash.
08:42Starting with Sue's £185 room.
08:46140, 160, 180.
08:51So that's £5 under payment.
08:54The only reason why I underpaid, because of the breakfast being late, that's all it was.
09:00There was a delay.
09:01There was a delay. Probably we asked, we should have just left our chef to do what she does.
09:05Obviously, we'll take that one. We was fully aware of what was going on there.
09:08Next, it's Melissa and Fiona's £185 room.
09:13120, 140, 160. That's under payment of £25.
09:22I didn't need the extras. I needed to know that I could dry my hair, that I could plug in
09:27my plug, and that's the reason.
09:29No, that's what I'm saying. Again, obviously, we do take your point into consideration.
09:35Obviously, it was something that you experienced. It hasn't been brought to our attention at the moment. At the moment,
09:40it seems to be working for us okay.
09:41Okay, fair enough.
09:43With Mel and Fiona's underpayment, we was very disappointed and surprised by them. We didn't expect an underpayment, maybe, that
09:50it was just going to be on the nose.
09:52We were honest, we were true to ourselves, and we just gave what we thought was right.
09:56Finally, it's Andrew and John's stay, which came to £350.
10:03£200, £220, £230. Oh, that's massive underpayment.
10:08It's an underpayment of £120.
10:12In glamping, once it's over, £200, it should be exceptional. We were quite taken aback when we heard the room
10:18price, and we're expected to be blown away, and we weren't blown away, so...
10:23I think for the amount of facilities we're providing for our guests, we actually covered every corner, and we're quite
10:30disappointed with so substantial underpayment.
10:34Fair enough. That's fine.
10:36John and Andrew underpaying us by £120.
10:39Obviously, we feel that they didn't really truly embrace the experience.
10:44With an accommodation of £350 a night, we had very little wiggle room to pay anywhere near that, so we
10:50stand by it.
10:51With Brooklyn's guest house underpaying by £5, the courtyard knocking off £25, and domes by the sea withholding £120, Finn
11:02Village finishes with a final bill average of 83%.
11:07With half the payments in, two sets of hosts are yet to face their critics.
11:11There is definitely a tension there. I wasn't expecting that at all, so God knows what's going to happen this
11:17afternoon.
11:18I just don't know which way they're going to go. I really don't.
11:26It's the final day of the competition to be named Best Value Place of the Week.
11:31Two sets of hosts have already found out what they've been paid.
11:34Next up, our brothers Andrew and John Picken.
11:38Right. Let's get stuck in.
11:41When the guests self-checked into domes by the sea in Kirkabrie and Dumfries and Galloway...
11:47This is something completely new to us.
11:50..first impressions of the domes were good all round.
11:53I love it here.
11:55Nice white linen as I like, yeah.
11:59Oh, delicious.
12:01That was good.
12:02But on a closer look...
12:04Let's see our hot tub.
12:06..faults were found.
12:07Not covered.
12:08Obviously, you cannot use outside area in the rain.
12:11Maybe a little bit more privacy on the sides,
12:13cos if you're in a hot tub, you can't skinny dip.
12:15The kitchen.
12:16It's a little bit cheap looking.
12:18Obviously, they allow animals in this part.
12:20But I don't know if I would keep that in here all the time.
12:22Later in the day, Fiona went off the boil.
12:25There was water left in the kettle.
12:26When I poured it out, it's a bit scaly.
12:29Could you possibly change it for me, please?
12:31Yeah, yeah, let's no bother.
12:32Come the evening drinks,
12:33Cliff and Monica got a taste of the boys' hosting style.
12:37I noticed all you guys have opted for the breakfast hamper.
12:41You'll not see us in the morning as we never deal with people.
12:44John and Andrew, they've built a business
12:46with not much communication with the guests.
12:50Next morning...
12:51It was pretty cold and it took a while to heat it up.
12:54Cliff and Monica went back to basics.
12:56There is no iron or ironing board.
12:59And the rest of the group chewed into the hamper.
13:01We've been charged 25 quid for breakfast.
13:04And that tells you in there it's 12 pounds.
13:07So it does.
13:09There's no butter.
13:10I think that bread and the butter
13:12probably would have just finished it off.
13:15Then at feedback...
13:16How were your hosts?
13:18Should we go on five?
13:19Would it be fair?
13:20The hosts took a hit.
13:22Five.
13:23They've not got over our feedback.
13:25That's savage.
13:26Now face to face.
13:28The brothers want to know why they weren't hosts with the most high score.
13:32Monica and Cliff, you gave us a five.
13:36And you've said there was a lack of interaction.
13:39So obviously, we felt obviously that we didn't see you as much.
13:42And as such, obviously, we said we would like to see more of you.
13:46We feel that's a very harsh score because that's not what we do.
13:50We don't host.
13:52I know.
13:53But obviously, the fact that we give a five and you're not hosting is still good.
13:58If you had someone that was able to at least say,
14:02Look, okay, here's your pod.
14:04I know.
14:04And if you have any problems, you can call us.
14:06Yeah, in terms of the meeting before, that's just something we don't do.
14:09We find that our guests love coming and not meeting anyone.
14:12Yeah.
14:13We're hostless, but if you have a problem, you phone our phone.
14:16We personally like that a little bit more of a personal touch.
14:19So obviously, we give a five.
14:20It wasn't to reflect that you're bad guys because we like you.
14:24Yep, fair enough.
14:25No, that's fine.
14:27We're very frustrated with Cliff and Monica's reasonings for giving us a five for a hosting.
14:31We're a hostless visit.
14:32I'm going to stand by the score that we give.
14:35We judged it fairly.
14:37Next, John and Andrew have more ground to cover with Cliff and Monica.
14:41So for how are the facilities, you put five.
14:44But I think it's just a reversal of a difference of opinion.
14:47So we're just going to...
14:48I mean, we can go on to it as well, because obviously we did lists.
14:52We know we did lists and stuff there.
14:55So it may or may not be valid, but I don't know if you want to discuss.
14:58We're quite happy not to, because I feel like we're just in the polar opposite ends of the scale.
15:02Oh, so you mean obviously how you see glamping and how we see glamping.
15:05Yeah, so we're just going to leave that one there, because I think we'll just go around in circles.
15:08Well, I mean, I have a doubt. Did you want to say something?
15:10I mean, it wasn't our opinion about the side of glamping, but the basics were really missing.
15:17I think we mentioned an iron, the roof over the hot tub.
15:20It wasn't so much the idea of a tit-for-tat.
15:23If these things were in place, we would have given you a ten.
15:25Yeah, no, thank you very much for your comments.
15:27I was only pointing out that obviously...
15:28Well, you're going on and on and on, and we said at the start that we're quite happy to just
15:32draw the line under that.
15:33And that's not what's happening.
15:34No, that's not, I'm not trying to, but...
15:36That's fine. Thank you for your comments.
15:39Cliff and Monica just wanted to continually talk at us, which is frustrating.
15:42It was a pointless conversation that was just going round and round and round.
15:45There's nothing that we said that they wanted to take on board.
15:47But it's the money that matters, starting with Melissa and Fiona, whose stay came to £275.
15:56£240, £250, £255, so an underpayment of £20.
16:01Yes.
16:02We basically broke it down, so it was £10, obviously, the crate, the breakfast thing with the price on the
16:08pack and the kettle.
16:10Which you rectified straight away.
16:12Yeah, no, thank you, thank you for your payment.
16:14I was surprised to see an underpayment from Mel and Fiona.
16:18Obviously, they judge it the way they judge it, so we can't really comment too much on that, but I
16:22was a wee bit surprised.
16:23Next, it's Sue's stay at £225.
16:29£160, £180, £200, so that's an underpayment of £25.
16:34Yeah.
16:34The £5 was for the hamper.
16:38I felt like there was things probably missing from the hamper.
16:41And the £20, it was just some of the finishes on the kitchen.
16:46Yeah, we take all that on board.
16:48Yeah, thank you.
16:49Hearing Sue say that it was missing the luxury in the kitchen, I don't know if I necessarily agree.
16:54It's glamping at the end of the day, it's got a very functional kitchen, which is everything you need.
16:58Finally, it's Cliff and Monica, whose stay came to £275.
17:05£210, £230, £235.
17:08So that's an underpayment of £40.
17:11We felt it was just missing that luxury thing like the, I mean, just an iron ironing board.
17:15So it was just these few bits and pieces, and obviously we would have been more than happy to pay
17:20the full price.
17:21Yeah, spot on. Thank you very much for that.
17:23You're welcome.
17:24We felt Mel and Fiona and Sue's feedback was so constructive that we weren't really interested in what Cliff and
17:30Monica had to say about that point.
17:32With the courtyard underpaying by £20, Brooklyn's guest house knocking off £25,
17:38and Finn Village withholding £40, Domes by the Sea finishes with a final bill average of 89%.
17:47The last contender vying for this week's title is Sue Grundy.
17:50Last but not least, hopefully.
17:54When she welcomed her guests to Brooklyn's guest house in Penrith, Cumbria.
17:59Good morning.
18:00Good morning.
18:00Welcome to Brooklyn's.
18:02They took a step back in time.
18:04Oh, wow.
18:05Very in keeping with the property.
18:07Very flamboyant.
18:09Oh, wow.
18:09Buzz their bed.
18:10Oh, wow.
18:11I like it.
18:12I like the colour scheme.
18:13It has a kind of classy feel about it.
18:15But Melissa and Fiona soon dished the dirt.
18:18There's hairs everywhere, like.
18:19Oh, wow.
18:20Oh, there's a lot.
18:21It's like somebody came in and had a shave before we got here.
18:23And that evening, the bath took a bash.
18:26Let's see if you look at the bottom of this bath.
18:28I don't know what that is.
18:30Come morning, breakfast went down a treat.
18:33Perfect.
18:34Absolutely nailed that.
18:35I got played full of mushrooms.
18:37I actually love them.
18:37But at feedback, it was Mel and Fiona who came clean.
18:42Residue on bottom of the bath.
18:43Lots of hairs on the sink.
18:46Hands up.
18:46I must have missed them.
18:47But yeah, I spend half my day chasing hairs round.
18:50Now all together, Sue wants to mop up Melissa and Fiona's moans.
18:55For cleanliness, you've given me an eight and you've mentioned about a residue in the bottom of the bath.
18:59When we went into the bathroom, I immediately spotted that whatever you clean your bath with hadn't been rinsed off.
19:07Oh, right.
19:07Which makes it very gritty on the bum.
19:10OK, so that's my bad then.
19:12To be fair, our bathroom was quite hairy.
19:14There was quite a lot of hair in our bathroom.
19:16I should have double checked it.
19:17I hoover my baths out.
19:19Do you?
19:19Yeah, I do.
19:20Put the attachments on.
19:21Put the attachment on.
19:22Yeah, that's a really good idea.
19:24Spot on.
19:25That little tip that Fiona told me, I will take that on board and I'm going to use that because
19:31that is a class idea.
19:33Sue can now cash up, starting with Melissa and Fiona's £154 room.
19:41130, 140, 144.
19:44So that is an underpayment of £10.
19:47Aye, it was a slight underpayment, but it was for the cleanliness and we had to be fair across the
19:51board.
19:52Yeah, yeah, that's fine.
19:52I've got to hold my hands up, haven't I?
19:54The payment from Mel and Fiona wasn't a surprise.

21:01Brooklyn's Guest House finishes with a final bill average of 103%.

21:25But we're still very proud that we took part in the competition and we don't regret one single minute.
21:30And in third place, we have Domes by the Sea.
