03:40there i was pretty lucky i grew up in a stable home i had loving parents
03:50we grew up in a rural town a good three hour drive from melbourne
04:00went to school in town it was pretty uneventful
04:10we grew up in a catholic family even though i didn't like going to church i still had a strong
04:17faith every night i would say my prayers before i go to sleep and i would have conversations with
04:24my parents about ghosts or supernatural phenomena that you know we were all interested in those
04:30sorts of things and we were very open i started to get interested in
04:36astrology it's just an interest you know i didn't follow it intensely but i was interested in
04:42astrology i was interested in numerology i was interested in tarot i was interested in palm
04:47readings psychics as i got older and started to explore my identity and try and figure out who
04:56i am and what i believe in i think that created fertile ground for me to be really open to
05:01well what
05:02next i had a boyfriend at the time and we clashed because he didn't have any spiritual beliefs
05:11whatsoever i wanted to meet the right person have a family
05:17and live a fuller more meaningful life

05:40i arrived in london it's a bit roll your eyes like yeah another aussie in london
05:50and then i was newly single
05:54and i got a job working in the nhs
05:58i was excited at the prospect of dating again or meeting someone
06:04this is the bedroom
06:08and this is the lounge room and this is the laundry and this is the kitchen
06:17one morning i was sitting with a client at work and i looked at my phone and an old friend
06:22had popped
06:23up on the phone him and ziggy these crazy friends who left the army and became these hippies and they
06:30would sit on my brother's floor and make friendship bracelets and they would go to festivals and they
06:35were just these kind of like a bit of an enigma i'd heard this story about how they'd like run
06:42off
06:42overseas to europe and were devoting their lives to yoga and being in service of humanity
06:49there was a whole heap of messages from him like hey i can't remember all the messages now but one
06:54of them said what's the meaning of life
06:58and so immediately that piqued my interest oh someone wants to have a philosophical or spiritual
07:05conversation and they were saying yeah we've found this yoga school now and you know these days yoga's
07:11become commercialized it's just hot pants and lycra and what we've found is the real thing
07:20and he sent me like a link to tara yoga center which is the uk branch of the atman yoga
07:27federation
07:35it had an authentic feel to it
07:39quite polished looking footage to me it looked legit everyone's there to better themselves in some way
07:49it was exactly what i was looking for so i signed up to the classes
07:59and they warn you they say this course will change you
08:06you will change on this path that will happen that's going to happen
08:17and i wanted what they had
08:27the way that they teach it is for you to visualize the activation of a chakra
08:31and the energizing of certain parts of your body
08:35i was so committed like i would not miss a class
08:55they talk about the telluric energies coming up from the earth
09:00you imagine balancing happening in your body you imagine things becoming unstuck you imagine opening and expansion
09:11it's more than just stretching the muscles
09:16there's something spiritual going on in that process
09:24you go to a class and it's a two-hour class and the first hour is a lecture
09:29first hour is pure theory and the second hour is practice and i loved that because i was like give
09:35me the the theory give me the knowledge and they would be associated handouts with every lesson
09:41and there's 20 plus years of courses and i was only in year one
09:46that was part of the appeal of of the classes is that they just went into so much depth
09:51you've got a lot of information about diet and exercise and looking after yourself and living well
09:58they've got the different types of yoga karma yoga bhakti yoga raja yoga
10:03laya yoga tantra yoga tantra yoga here they've described as the yoga of extreme expansion of the field of consciousness
10:11that includes a complex gamut of methods and techniques including among others sexual activity for the purpose of
10:17accelerating spiritual evolution by transmuting and sublimating the creative sexual potential for both men and women
10:25and so then i'm jumping on google i'm like what is tantra and then and then i sort of said
10:32oh look
10:32i don't really know much about it but i think what most people think of when they hear the word
10:36tantra is it's something to do with sex it's something to do with couples and this kind of slowed down
10:45version of sex it's kind of what we think of isn't it i was like that sounds really mysterious
10:51i messaged ziggy he told me that the teachings and the meditation and the yoga practice really helped
10:58him from a young age i'm not saying it was like this but it certainly felt this way that it
11:12was
11:12me against the world coming from a broken childhood and the concept of love and receiving it was quite
11:24unfamiliar to me the foster system is there and it functions to a capacity it's not perfect but i'm
11:33grateful grateful that it existed when i joined the army i was um trying to find a sense of belonging
11:43in
11:43a place or a community but that just never sat well i didn't particularly agree with a lot of what
11:51we
11:52were doing what we're exposed to so just let us to go and try and seek those answers elsewhere
12:01in 2016 i just packed up and left and came to europe
12:10in this yoga school they're all around the world everywhere
12:28in the beginning i was not a great yogi they put me on a mat and it was just wow
12:40that that's not
12:42pretty but you really did feel like you're part of something that was just so much granted
12:50and it just had this alluring element to it
12:57possibly because of the way things unfolded in my actual biological family motherless and fatherless
13:06relationships they're always something that i struggled with
13:11i'm not going to say my past relationships were meaningless but it was clunky it was full of mistakes
13:18it sort of put me in a space where right i'm this wounded closed off individual that's attempted to to
13:26find love and been chewed up and spat out as a result and it's what led to wanting to go
13:33into the this yogic
13:35tantric world and what better place to learn and grow i was aware that it was probably going to lead
13:44into
13:45this tantric love making ritual but i had a lot to learn first
14:02this was a global school and i was very much connected to the one in sweden
14:15for me it had a huge impact
14:19it changed me at a very fundamental level the teachings spoke for themselves
14:28i think it transformed my life transformed the way
14:32that i saw myself the way i saw the world and part of the tantric teachings is to to really
14:39wake up
14:45tantra's maybe four five thousand years old even long before christianity
14:55yoga and tantra are sisters for example a normal class would always start with at least an hour of yoga
15:04and then if we marry the teachings of the chakras with how energy works certain positions certain sexual
15:14positions are connected to certain chakras certain energies
15:21one of the goals of tantra is to awaken the storm and energy
15:29we talk about the inner marriage between shiva and shakti within tantra
15:36shiva is the masculine principle and shakti is the feminine principle
15:43in the meeting with a lover there would be a big charge of energy
15:52we use that energy as a vehicle towards spiritual growth
15:58i went in wholehearted and i dedicated all my time all my energy everything to the school to the path
16:07um it was my life
16:12common saying they have is that the tantric path is like stepping off a country road onto an express
16:19freeway the lessons come fast they come strong and you know you be prepared
16:29ziggy was really involved in the school by this point
16:34someone said people think that tantra is about sex but it's not it's about love
16:38tantra is about love and it's intriguing right like it's it is intriguing especially when you're
16:43hearing about it being about living from the heart and about being and being all about love
16:49you know that's who doesn't want to learn about love
16:55i signed up for first year tantra and second year yoga
17:05the school all the knowledge is not available to everybody you have the normal classes and then
17:14some people are invited to take extracurricular classes where you're invited to attend maybe a weekend workshop
17:26the teachers would choose uh the students that were showing the most aspiration or the most potential
17:36only people deemed i don't want to say worthy but i'm going to say it so only people deemed worthy
17:44they are allowed in so a little bit like a like a secret society
17:52it must have also been quite compelling very much so yeah yeah very um seductive
18:07somehow being closer being allowed to be closer and have closer access to the source was was really
18:18compelling
18:18i don't recall when i first heard the word guru
18:27but then the school refers to him as the spiritual guide
18:33and they gave you his name yeah gregorian bivalaru
18:39and that he was romanian
18:43he was teaching yoga during the communist regime
18:50he was teaching in secret because yoga wasn't allowed and these sorts of things were considered a
18:55threat to the state
18:58and they said he you know went out on a limb to teach yoga so he's a hero you know
19:03look what he did for
19:04the people and was there a concept of where he was i had no idea where he was i knew
19:12that he was in hiding
19:13but we'd spoken openly about this in class that he'd been to prison before
19:19any greats like mahabmagandhi was you know persecuted and there were many people who fought
19:26for truth and for the light who've been persecuted over time
19:31they kind of likened him to this metaphor of climbing a mountain you need the guide there
19:36who knows the landscape who knows what they're doing to guide you there
19:43a few weeks earlier i was told that there's a festival in romania for the entire month of august
19:50and they said you could write to the spiritual guide and ask to go into the villa
19:59it'll be a perfect opportunity for you to learn new techniques that were specific for women
20:07and it'd be great for your transformation
20:10so i wrote to the guru
20:13dear spiritual guide greek my name is ashley and i'm currently studying the first year of the
20:19intensive yoga course i've decided to visit romania for the summer camp in costa nest
20:26i'm writing to kindly ask if i may be accepted at the villa
20:30the amazing opportunity would help me to awaken explore and understand my femininity
20:37i did that and there's the photos that you have to send of you in a bikini
20:45and you have to be standing there holding this piece of paper that has your name your star sign
20:52where you're from which school you attend and that gets sent away to the spiritual guide
20:58in order to attend the camp and i did think it was odd because it's like why do you why
21:04can't you read
21:04my aura through my clothes i sent the photos and then the guru wrote back to me and it was
21:11like yes
21:12we welcome you to the villa come immediately
21:35it's on the coast of romania
21:40it's on the coast of romania
21:45but also with romanians on holidays
21:50you've got this kind of juxtaposition of all these unaware unconscious people drinking
21:57dancing
21:59and then you have all these awakened yogis
22:03trying to open their hearts and raise their consciousness and benefit humanity
22:10and i was going to spend a month there and i was going to do yoga i was excited
22:18i hadn't been told much i knew that the school originated in romania and the guru was romanian
22:23and that most of the students were romanian and so that was where they hosted the main summer camp
22:29that everyone came to from all over the world
22:37in denmark we had quite a strong school there a really big school that was quite established
22:45i was a massive high achiever
22:49i was a total nerd i got bullied at school
22:52i would hide in the library a lot and i would obsessively read
22:58i had been living in sydney each time i would meet a new partner i would say
23:02don't even bother trying to give me pleasure it's not going to happen my body's broken but i'm just
23:07happy to be here with you and i want you to feel good so i was a real people pleaser
23:11in that way
23:20but then at 26 i met a partner who introduced me to this whole other way of relating with sexuality
23:25and pleasure and i started to feel sensations i didn't know were possible
23:34he told me that it was connected to this yoga and meditation tradition that he had been practicing
23:43he was really wanting to explore more and go deeper with this
23:49that's when he decided he wanted to go to denmark to do the teacher training and he invited me to
23:54go
23:55with him and said that i would be able to live there and do voluntary work for the school
24:01i was there in denmark for nearly three years when they said you've been invited on a special
24:07women's retreat which is happening within the camp it's it's part of this thing called
24:12the villa you'll be part of a community of women we'll see you there

24:26i didn't yeah i didn't know what to expect
24:31to me it looked tacky
24:33like it just wasn't my vibe it's got tall fences you're not allowed in unless you have your pass
24:44they took my passport
24:49they get a bible out and you have to say
24:54i swear on my health and my spiritual evolution that i will not reveal any of the secrets
25:00or anything that goes on here
25:03it was pages and pages of rules listen they need to go into the other room
25:07and you need to read these rules three times it might take you about an hour or so
25:12and then like okay now we do your photos and they said so you need to strip off naked like
25:21take
25:21take all your clothes off so they can check your aura to make sure that your energies are
25:26balanced enough to participate and so i took my clothes off and they take photos front on and side profile
25:36and did you have any kind of doubts in the back of your mind at that point that it was
25:40strange
25:42certainly thought it was strange but i don't i don't really know
25:46if i questioned it that much i think i was like yeah this is just
25:51this is just how it is and also i guess it was kind of empowering like to think
25:55yeah i'm going to take my clothes off i don't have a problem with my body sure
26:03and then i had to sit down naked in front of the camera with a microphone and answer these questions
26:11and they also said oh if we ask you about like him we're talking about the master like we refer
26:18to
26:18him as him on the camera we won't use his name it's just him they said and if you had
26:23the opportunity
26:24to meet him how would you feel or what would you say or something to that effect and i'm sitting
26:31there cross-legged completely naked with a camera on me holding a microphone and i'm asked that
26:38and i said yeah i i would be extremely nervous at the thought of that i'd very
26:43intimidated at the thought of that but of course i would say yes
26:53women would walk around like naked all the time and i loved that like you felt really open and safe
27:04you could go to each other for advice and hold each other and
27:07and hug each other and cook each other food and it was a community
27:16they'd often been in the school for a few years or at least two years before they went
27:20into the villa you know people were surprised like oh it's your first year how long you've
27:24been in the school a few months oh and you're in the villa it was a bit
27:31i met women from america germany portugal brazil greece thailand they come from all over the world
27:44i was a first year student and i went weekly to the classes and you know i already saw a
27:52difference in myself and my life compared with a year certainly two years previously my relationships
27:58were improving my sense of self had completely changed and that felt really exciting
28:09i decided that i should quit my job and like dedicate myself to this full time
28:16and so you have all these women there that seem to be sort of running the show they're sort of
28:21i
28:21think you know sort of almost mother figures they're running around they're organizing things
28:28and almost all of the women in the villa would be like first question what's the star sign
28:34second or third question are you doing miss shakti
28:46miss universe type style pageants
28:54and they created these videos of them for the guru
28:59and i have to say i was pretty surprised
29:04women dancing quite seductively
29:09they're all kind of adorned with jewels and headdresses
29:14it was like the whole camp you know watching
29:18miss shakti is another level really it's kind of the basis of the whole camp
29:25they teach this idea that when you empty yourself of your person
29:31you are channeling and you are asking that other character or entity or energy or goddess
29:37to come into you and then you become them for that period in time
29:46they're calling it then they've got to continue uh
29:51and it was sprinkle then from the digit of the and then the artist it was in the solo
29:58it feels real and i don't know
30:03how to explain why in a rational way
30:08it's a contest and there is a winner and a first second and third place but ultimately you're not
30:13competing against the other people it's about competing you know against yourself or becoming
30:18a better version of you for a woman who's grown up having shame and judgment around your body
30:27thinking that I was fat in the school there's this idea that your body is sacred and it's not some
30:38kind
30:38of object sitting and watching this you see this really quiet reserved shy person and then through
30:50Miss Shakti all of a sudden they're in a micro bikini on stage like a sex bomb I was like

30:56micro bikini so many women I can't tell you how many there were and I knew that some of the
31:08higher
31:09like the the later stages there's a few secret stages
31:31I got kicked out after the first round
31:35at the time I was devastated and I thought okay was it because I'm too much in my ego was
31:41it because
31:42you know I had the wrong energy during the performance I you know why what was it about
31:47me meant that I was kicked out at this stage what's my spiritual guide trying to show me here
31:59like some things I felt were a bit weird like there was a remember there was an exercise once that
32:04was
32:04on conscious touch and I think you just kind of closed your eyes and then everybody had their hands on
32:12you but then there was this other one that they did right at the end of the month it was
32:17called an
32:17integration and almost all of the women in the villa were planning to participate you had to put your
32:25name down if you were going to participate in the integration and if you weren't going to participate then
32:29you had to leave the building for the the duration of the few hours that it was going on and
32:34then they
32:34started talking about the technique which is using the urine which they called the golden elixir which
32:45is where you're exchanging the golden elixir you're exchanging the urine after at least 45 minutes of
32:52lovemaking or charging so that it's then charged and that's how you supposedly integrate the qualities
32:59of the partner it's like the ultimate kind of connection and closeness because you are then drinking
33:03and embodying these qualities of your partner I I didn't want to I wasn't I didn't want to
33:17so I I sat in the room for it and went into the room they had all like the it
33:23was all kind of ritualized
33:28and then it was just an orgy it's just a massive orgy of all these women no men
33:38and I just sat there watching in a kind of a meditative posture and just kind of just observed
33:49and then they start passing the bowl around and they're all collectively peeing into the bowl
33:57and then they're bottling it afterwards into these little vials so that they can put a couple of drops
34:02in their water so that they can keep embodying the qualities I seemed like I was the only one that
34:08didn't
34:09want to like it was but I rationalize it as well I'm not evolved enough maybe one day I'll be
34:15more
34:15evolved I'm just not there when I first did it myself it grossed me out and I had a moment
34:26of being like
34:28what what am I doing you know it felt weird but there was also this sense of
34:36like love and acceptance at a very deep level it it was certainly intriguing but I think I was also
34:44just nursing or holding on to all the shame that I couldn't bring myself to be involved
34:51and so you would have liked to have been able to I would have liked to have wanted to I
34:58wanted to want to
35:11arriving back in the UK I was just confused and disorientated
35:19I need to get past my blockages all these fears and anxieties coming up just represent the ego
35:27and of course you're going to the ego is going to try and stop you and block you at every
35:30twist
35:31and turn along your spiritual path and your job is to keep destroying the ego keep quelling the ego
35:36keep surrendering and moving past the ego
35:46Ziggy's influence was pretty significant I talked to him at length
35:56everything up until that point for herself had seemed just a little bit
36:00off color for her to want to engage with it any further
36:06she certainly struggled with a lot of the practices
36:12her hearing how I've integrated a lot of the teachings certainly made her feel more comfortable
36:19or at least reassured that you can live a somewhat normal life surrounding the school
36:28in Denmark I was getting brought closer into the core of the community
36:34and I had the opportunity to be initiated into the art of tantric lovemaking
36:42Paul had been at the school maybe three years before I'd gotten there
36:49I knew there'd be a series of postures within lovemaking she guided me through that in the
36:55most loving and caring way and it really did feel like a de-arm of the chest and of the
37:03heart
37:03I can can feel and relate to myself again you know this has been absent for so long
37:13Paul had been in several relationships by this stage
37:17she did receive those initiation techniques so I was just having it handed on to me
37:29the tantric tradition has always been very much that it's by initiation only
37:39because it's not enough to just tell somebody who's struggling yeah just go and do some more practice
37:46we need to do deeper work than that and we need to look at ourselves much deeper than that
37:54some things that can learn from lectures some things I can learn from yoga meditation whatever
38:02but there are some experiences that are only possible through the direct contact with with the teacher
38:12there are certain things that he has to take me through himself
38:19this was not possible through anybody else that it was really an initiation from like the master to to
38:35the student the receptionist at Tara yoga she messaged me saying hey sweetie are you coming into the center today
38:42I want to talk to you about something
38:45she was looking for a private room and she couldn't find one because a lot of the studios were being
38:50used so she ended up taking me into like this cupboard it was like a storage it was like a
38:56storage room she said oh you know do you remember when we were in the villa and we had to
39:01put down dates that we might be available to visit the guru
39:06she said well he's he's he's invited to go meet him it's integrated for you on these dates but it's
39:17all secret you know you can't tell anyone else you need to book your transport and we'll pay you back
39:22for the cost of it and the location where you need to go where you need to book to is
39:26Paris
39:39I am the chief of the office central for the repression of the violence of people
