00:00A 24-carat gold coin bearing the image of U.S. President Donald Trump has been given the green
00:05light by a federal arts commission, despite rules on living precedents appearing on currency.
00:12The coin is intended to commemorate America's 250th independence anniversary on July 4th.
00:21The U.S. Commission of Fine Arts voted unanimously to approve the design,
00:26with his vice chairman urging it be produced at up to three inches in diameter.
00:31For comparison, a U.S. quarter dollar is less than one inch wide.
00:35Trump had fired several members of the commission last year, replacing them with allies.
00:41Under federal law, living precedents are not allowed to appear on U.S. currency.
00:46But the coin is reportedly being minted and issued under the authority and discretion of Treasury Secretary Scott Bassett.
