00:00and but how do you prepare yourself for that i don't think you really can but you just have to
00:05be okay with you know when that thing happens not letting it boil over into something else and
00:10um i think i imagined my day ending with a four shot lead going up 18 instead of one
00:16but it you know i i was super calm kind of the whole day until right at the end but
00:21kind of the thing that kept playing in my mind was um me and my wife the night before like

00:26she didn't really want to talk about it i think she was scared of mentioning it and
00:30um the thing that kept coming up is like the story's already written i just got to go do my
00:33best and see what the story is you know so that was kind of my thing i'm like this whatever's
00:39going to happen is already decided and i've just got to go and play the way that i know how
00:44and you
00:45know see what that story is it's a surprise to me too so um i would have wished that it
00:50was a little
00:50bit more of a smooth smooth finish but i mean i was super calm all day i i felt like
00:56things just
00:56weren't really going my way from a scoring sense um but from the rest of the field things were going
01:02my way like guys were missing putts guys weren't making moves until late so i think kurt helped me
01:08a lot by not making some of those short putts that he missed and then rory played amazing and just
01:15didn't get the putts to fall they were just bouncing out he was hitting awesome putts so a couple of
01:19those
01:19things went my way more than um that overshadowed the ones that didn't go my way from my putts and
01:25stuff like that but there was i guess the only thing i was shocked by was everything was smooth
01:31sailing um i got to number 11 and i hit a drive perfect and i get up there and there's
01:39mud on the
01:39front right of my ball and it's just one of those where you can't control one of those you know
01:45it's
01:45going left like hard and back right pin can't miss it right you know i'm like look i can't aim
01:53this
01:53right of the hole if it goes straight you know i'm i'm gonna kick myself and i ended up the
01:58hole
01:58and flushed it and it went 50 yards left oh gosh it's the first time you start to spin a
02:03little bit
02:03that was the first time i like pretty much all week where something had really gone
02:08not according to plan which is crazy to say but even though at that point like nothing i wasn't
02:14scrambling at all in my head i was still leading by a ton and i was playing great golf so

02:19just took it for what it was and and then the next hole rory hit a bad drive and hacked
02:25it out in the
02:25front bunker and made a 50 yard bunker shot i mean how good was that it was incredible i mean
02:30it was
02:30up under the lip greens are soft you got a flat all the way there he flew it six feet
02:35short it kind
02:36of just hopped checked a little bit and rolled right in the cup and i mean it was the most
02:40perfect shot
02:41whatever it's so good right yeah i i don't i need to ask him maybe next time i see him

02:46that because i have no idea it's just silly and and how much did it help you to to play

02:52mcroy at the bmw championship the year prior when you're in another big time situation where you're
02:58trying to make the tour championship and you need a good round on sunday just to confirm it
03:02to to do it alongside him that day did that give you a little bit of just confidence heading into

03:08that you've stood and played with one of the game's best players yeah i definitely um i would
03:14say that day i was more nervous overall than i was so much on the line i was at riviera
03:19so you know i'm
03:20trying to make the tour championship my first year um with the chance to do that and you know i'm
03:26playing
03:26with along rory with thousands of people watching but what i didn't prepare for was that the fans didn't
03:32care what i was doing which was a blessing i he was making birdies whatever they were cheering and
03:38then when they got when he got done they were just moving on they didn't even care what i was
03:42doing so
03:42i had really no eyes on me no pressure um and i ended up playing fine playing you know getting
03:46through
03:47and um securing my spot but i think that gave me kind of a preview of what it is like

03:54he was great to me super nice kind of comforting at times yeah um which i didn't really expect but

04:01appreciate it a lot what about after the bunker shot did it be like all right game on yeah i

04:06honestly i've been so i've been so confident over the putter that week that i was gonna there was
04:12probably four or five times that day where i got over putt and i in my mind knew that the
04:17putt was
04:17going in and they didn't go in and that's really weird because normally that those equal birdies and
04:22for whatever reason that hole i was like i know i'm making this putt and he made it so i
04:27you know
04:28came over gave him a high five and i'm like whatever i'm gonna make this putt too and i hit
04:31a great putt and it bumped out at the end okay yeah there's there's something i didn't see
