00:00And we're back with Paytrix right now.
00:01I'm Denny Murphy.
00:02I'm Evan Real.
00:02Evan, we're so excited.
00:03Who are we talking to?
00:04Sarah Michelle Gellar, the one and only welcome to the show.
00:08We're so excited to have you.
00:09I'm excited to be here.
00:10Thank you for having me.
00:11Because Ready or Not 2, here I come.
00:12It's out Friday.
00:14The trailer is so nuts.
00:16Everyone's so excited.
00:17I feel like the world feels better when Sarah Michelle Gellar
00:19is piercing someone's chest with a steak.
00:22Yes.
00:22So thank you so much for that.
00:24How do you feel about this film coming out?
00:26And the fact that you're in another slasher movie, it's just,
00:29it feels right.
00:30I love this, the original film.
00:32Like I, it was six years ago, I think it's 2019.
00:35And so to get a call that they're making another one now,
00:37you're like, oh, I never thought I'd get to play in that sandbox.
00:41And it's just, it's such a fun ride.
00:43And like, I love, I love going to the movies.
00:45Like there's nothing better than like getting your popcorn,
00:47going with a bunch of people.
00:48And just for two hours, forgetting the rest of the world,
00:51putting your phone away and seeing a movie.
00:53And this is a ride.
00:54You're talking about popcorn.
00:54I'm curious, do you do anything crazy with your popcorn?
00:57Cause I put a bunch of crunch in mine.
00:58My daughter puts M&Ms and I get annoyed.
01:00Oh, okay.
01:00I'm a purist.
01:01I'm a purist.
01:02Okay.
01:03I want popcorn.
01:04I'm a purist.
01:05Wait, but this movie is so, like we're saying, the trailer is so crazy.
01:08And I love, it picks up kind of where the original-
01:11Exactly.
01:12Into the point where they not, six years later, there's a seamless transition from,
01:18she's sitting on the steps and you won't know when it switches from the original.
01:23Like, I still don't know if I can totally pinpoint the moment it switches.
01:26And I'd love to, cause I mean, it is, it's like the most dangerous game.
01:29It's all now, it's like all of these rich families from all over trying to win the prize.
01:32And I like that it all kind of started where, in the first one, it's like, oh, I did not
01:37realize that my husband's family is-
01:40Satan worshipers.
01:42They don't have that on Hinge.
01:43They don't really-
01:44I don't think they put that in the dating apps.
01:46I think that's more like surprise.
01:47Yeah.
01:48Wait, that's right.
01:48Is there anything that you feel would maybe like surprise your fans?
01:51Like, oh guys, by the way, like I'm not a Satan worshiper, but like this little like
01:54fact about yourself that you're always like-
01:55I mean, I think at this point-
01:56They know everything?
01:57Pretty much everyone knows everything.
01:58My friend, Jason Sheeler, he just interviewed you for the people cover story, which was
02:02so beautiful.
02:03And in his story, he really nailed it when he called you the patron saint of millennials,
02:08because you have really been with us through so many different projects that have formed
02:13an entire generation.
02:15I almost get like emotional thinking about it.
02:17You're going to give me a really big head.
02:18I'm just like-
02:18Well, it's, it's honestly so true.
02:20And specifically your connection with gay male millennials, like who would we be without
02:25you?
02:26How would you describe your connection to that gay millennial fan base?
02:30I hope that-
02:31My people?
02:32It's your people.
02:33I mean, I think it's just my people.
02:35And at what point in your career did you kind of realize you meant so much to the community?
02:39Well, look, I think the whole point of Buffy, right, was about chosen family.
02:45Yeah.
02:45And I think in particular being different.
02:48Now that could be anything.
02:49That could be LGBTQT.
02:51It could be a learning discipline.
02:53It could be anything.
02:53It could just be different.
02:55And Buffy was about that there's a place for you and you can be seen for who you are
03:00and you can find that chosen family.
03:02And so I think that for anyone that's felt like on the outside.
03:05And then I think, you know, and then from there, like you get a Cruel Intentions, which
03:10is just like made for an audience.
03:12Yes.
03:12Yes.
03:13You know, from there.
03:14But I mean, you know, I'm almost like a gay man.
03:18So I feel like it's just, I also understand what you want.
03:20Yeah.
03:21I was gonna say, I mean, in the outflow right now, you have like, I'm getting sparkles.
03:24And also in terms of gay men love, you also, I love how much you're obsessed with reality
03:27television, like Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.
03:29Yes.
03:30When I love, cause you're doing Watch What Happens with Dorit, right?
03:33I did it.
03:33Yeah.
03:33Oh, you did it?
03:34Oh my God.
03:34Are you loving this season?
03:36No.
03:37What's wrong?
03:38Share your notes, please.
03:40In fact, I did.
03:41I told it.
03:41I think it's boring.
03:42I mean, I like the cast.
03:45Like I love Rachel.
03:45I think Rachel's a great addition.
03:47I love Bose.
03:48Like I love, I think it's a great, I mean, I live for Kathy and Jen.
03:51Like I want a spinoff.
03:52I want a Jen Tilly, Kathy Hilton spinoff.
03:54Like I just.
03:55I need them in Ready or Not 2.
03:56As Rachel would say, I die.
03:57I die.
03:58I die for them.
03:58Cause that's what we were laughing at.
04:00But it's slow.
04:01It is slow.
04:01It's just picking up now.
04:03I know.
04:03And what do you think of Amanda Francis as a newbie?
04:06How do you, cause I feel like she's a bit polarizing this season.
04:09I don't think she's polarizing.
04:09I just don't think anyone enjoys her.
04:10Oh!
04:11She's not polarizing.
04:13She's not polarizing.
04:14She's manifesting though.
04:15Yeah.
04:15Manifesting what?
04:16I, what exactly?
04:18Chanel backpacks?
04:18Yeah.
04:19Chanel backpacks.
04:20Yeah.
04:20She, I don't, I don't know.
04:22I think that I don't know.
04:22She may be very, I hope I want to clarify.
04:24Like I'm sure she's a very lovely person.
04:26I just like, I could never go on a reality show.
04:29Right.
04:30Because there's parts of me that are my own and it's not something that I
04:33want to be judged for picked apart.
04:36If you choose to go on this show, then you have to be ready to open
04:43yourself up and be honest.
04:45And I feel like, I don't know.
04:47I just, I feel like she's not, she just, she missed them.
04:49Yeah.
04:49I don't think she's clocking it because also when she was like, I
04:51don't know why we're at a table and there's conflict.
04:53And I'm like, have you seen?
04:54Like, have you ever watched an episode?
04:56Right?
04:57Of any of the Beverly Hills housewives though, who do you think would
05:00fare the best in a situation like ready or not to like, who do you wish was on your
05:04team to, to hunt, to hunt these girls?
05:06From Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.
05:09Oh, that's so hard.
05:10Um.
05:12I have Sutton on mine.
05:13That's what I'm thinking.
05:13I feel like Sutton would do well.
05:14I mean, she's, she's pretty, I want, I mean, but we're talking Sutton Brown, right?
05:17Not Sutton.
05:17Oh, right.
05:18Sutton Brown.
05:18Yeah.
05:19Sutton Brown.
05:19Sutton Brown.
05:19I know that's right.
05:21It's so hard.
05:22Like, I'm supposed to say my friends, right?
05:25So I can't say Crystal, she's too tall.
05:27You'd see her.
05:28Right?
05:28I can't say Rachel, her heels would slow her down.
05:31True.
05:31Right?
05:32You know, Kyle's athletic and tiny.
05:33Dorit would be late to start it.
05:34Wait, but that might keep her alive too.
05:36If she missed it.
05:37Yeah.
05:38No, but then she wouldn't help me though.
05:40Oh.
05:40It wouldn't help me.
05:41She would just be late and miss the whole thing.
05:42I say that with love, Dorit.
05:44Yeah.
05:44Um.
05:45Yeah, I'm not sure I really.
05:47That's true.
05:47I, we were laughing because when I watched the, um, the trailer, I was like, oh my God,
05:51just picturing Kathy Allen and Jennifer Tilly in this would be hilarious because they would
05:55just also not get the.
05:57They wouldn't get what's happening.
05:58Yeah.
05:59They would like, they would accidentally murder people.
06:01Not realizing that.
06:02Oh.
06:03Like, yeah.
06:03It would be secretly amazing.
06:04I mean, you, you mentioned that you would never do a reality show, but you kind of are
06:07Star Search, which is so exciting.
06:09Yeah.
06:09But it's not a reality show about my life.
06:11Exactly.
06:11Totally different.
06:12One is a competition show about talent.
06:15True, true, true.
06:15And one is the inside of my life.
06:17You're like, I don't have to throw wine at.
06:18It's kind of like the best gig ever.
06:20Like what made you want to do it?
06:21Cause you were, you were on it as a kid.
06:23I auditioned.
06:24I didn't, I didn't get on.
06:24Oh my.
06:25Okay.
06:25Well shame on them.
06:27Honestly, I had never really thought about doing unscripted.
06:30It's just not what I do.
06:32And then I was home over, I think it was like Thanksgiving and I was watching Elizabeth
06:36Banks on press your luck.
06:38And I was like, she was like, she's having the best time and she still directs and big
06:43movies and small movies.
06:44And I was like, maybe I like need to like, look at this.
06:46Like maybe the world and landscape has changed and you can do these things.
06:49And so I was like, well, what's out there?
06:51And they told me like five things that were coming up in that space.
06:54And one of them was star search and it was live, which I thought was, I loved it.
06:58Cause like, that's a challenge that I had necessarily haven't done yet.
07:00And I was like, I want to do that one.
07:03There you go.
07:03And then I did it.
07:03What do you remember from your star search audition?
07:06And how old were you?
07:07I was five.
07:08Five years old.
07:09Oh my God.
07:09Wow.
07:10I was like, oh, that's yeah.
07:11I just know that I didn't get on.
07:13Wow.
07:14And then you found your way back to it.
07:15But it's okay because John Legend also auditioned and didn't get on.
07:18And so John and I have a support group for each other.
07:19Okay.
07:20That is where I go.
07:20I love that.
07:22And the rush of live was like really exhilarating for you.
07:24It's really fun.
07:24Do you ever have the urge of doing like, cause we're in New York, like a Broadway
07:27moment?
07:28I have.
07:29Going back to it.
07:30I mean, right now my kids are in school and so I can't, I can't do that right now.
07:35But I mean, it's fun.
07:37You get to do it all these days.
07:39Like there's no, there's no barriers.
07:40Like when I was on soaps, it was like, you don't leave soaps and do nighttime.
07:43Like that doesn't happen.
07:44And then when I was in nighttime, no one does movies.
07:46And now it's like, you can, there's no rules.
07:48It does seem like it's the wild, wild west.
07:49And that gets you.
07:50And it's kind of exciting where it's like, oh, there's so many options, but then you're
07:53kind of like, oh, there's less pressure of like being put into a box of a creative.
07:56Like you're just, you're yourself.
07:58You're yourself.
07:58And you get to do what it is that interests you and challenges you versus, you know,
08:04what you're told you have to do.
08:07And like we were saying too, cause you are, you give scream queen.
08:10You are, you know, like you, do you ever get scared of anything?
08:13Cause we were laughing.
08:13Evan is such a scaredy cat.
08:14Like he was watching the trailer with like eyes behind fingers.
08:18Do you get scared of anything?
08:19Or do you just know how like the sausage is made?
08:21So you don't.
08:21I'm scared of fast food.
08:23Oh, really?
08:24Oh God.
08:25I wish you were scared of fast food.
08:26Oh my God.
08:27He was asking for what Taco Bell menu item I am.
08:29Yeah.
08:30Oh my God.
08:30Okay.
08:30So you're not a fan of fast food.
08:32Just too processed.
08:33Not, not into it.
08:34No, really?
08:34Like in that, you've been that way forever.
08:37Oh, I've had Dunkin' Coffee.
08:38Okay.
08:38And I like Dunkin' Coffee a lot.
08:39Okay.
08:40Oh, it's good.
08:40Oh my God.
08:41I give you such credit for resisting it.
08:44I love, no, Dunkin' Coffee I'm here for.
08:46Oh my God.
08:46Yes.
08:46But fast food you've never, like you've never had the inkling for it.
08:50I mean, it depends what, how defined fast food.
08:52Do I eat in and out in Shake Shack?
08:53Yeah, totally.
08:53Oh, okay.
08:54Yes.
08:54I'm just not like a.
08:56Taco Bell kind of gal.
08:58I'm a Taco Bell kind of gal.
09:00I need to be more like you.
09:01You're gonna, okay, we will scare you.
09:03I would just like rather have Piquito Mas.
09:04Like which is like almost fast food, but like a little bit better.
09:06I see.
09:07Yeah.
09:08I'm just gonna just, you know.
09:09We will, we will actually give you our ready or not to thing to scare you.
09:12We had on air a Baja Blast pie.
09:15Yes.
09:16Do you know what a Baja Blast is, Sarah Michelle?
09:17So I did not until recently, but my children just told me what a Baja Blast is.
09:21Okay.
09:21So they made a pie version of like a, like a, I guess it was like a pumpkin pie, but
09:26made
09:26out of Baja Blast for the, for the holidays.
09:28And we did.
09:28It almost like the ambrosia.
09:29Yeah.
09:30It tasted kind of lemon merengue in a way.
09:33Okay.
09:33Sure.
09:33I mean, by the way, I'm, it's just not for me.
09:35I love food.
09:36Like I want like really good tasting food.
09:38Like, so it's, for me, it's just.
09:40Do you have a place in New York, kind of like a go-to restaurant when you're here that
09:42you love going to?
09:43I was actually just thinking about what I wanted for lunch.
09:44Oh, you're my girl.
09:46Blue Ribbon Sushi, which I do thankfully have in LA.
09:49I already hit up Polo Bar.
09:51Oh, nice.
09:52I already had that.
09:52I already hit up Balthazar and had my salad and my soup.
09:56Shunli for Chinese food.
09:57Okay.
09:59Pizza, obviously.
10:00I mean, there's, there's a list.
10:02Wait, Polo, have you ever had fun run-ins at Polo Bar?
10:05Had what?
10:05Fun run-ins at Polo Bar.
10:06Oh, I thought that was like a dish.
10:07Is it like Funyuns?
10:08I was like, what?
10:09I'm like, have you, that'd be me at Polo Bar.
10:11Do you have the Funyun bags in the back?
10:12Yeah.
10:13I mean, I do, I see people I know there every time.
10:15Oh, I love that.
10:15That's so fun.
10:16I actually went this week and saw my trainer who trained me that morning.
10:19Oh my God.
10:20And you're like, I got the salad.
10:21Yeah.
10:22No, I didn't.
10:22Speaking of training, I just recently, because I was watching the video that you did to accompany
10:27the people interview and you spoke about how, when you worked in Wilmington, I'm from Wilmington,
10:32by the way.
10:33And I love that your love story with Freddie kind of began there.
10:36Yes, yes, yes.
10:36But you were, I guess they were filming more in Southport.
10:39Southport is where I couldn't go to the gym.
10:40So you had to drive an entire hour to go to the gym.
10:43So there was one gym in Southport.
10:43What?
10:44And they wouldn't let me go because I wasn't 21.
10:46And I was like, what?
10:47I'm going to drink and go on the treadmill.
10:48Like I didn't, and the movie tried to put up like a bond like for me and they were like,
10:51no, so I could only go to the gyms that were in Wilmington.
10:54So that's like an hour each way that I had to drive.
10:57And like I, from New York City, like I had just gotten my driver's license.
10:59Like I was not used to driving.
11:01No.
11:01Long stretches of road, dark.
11:03Like literally while you're making, I know what you did last summer.
11:05It's a little freaky.
11:06But yeah, I had to drive every day, two hours just to go to the gym.
11:09That's wild.
11:10What is your favorite?
11:10Cause you were talking about your trainer too.
11:12Do you have a favorite type of workout that you just are obsessed with?
11:15I'm in such a Pilates headspace right now.
11:16Well, I've been in a Pilates headspace since I was a teenager.
11:19Like I've always been in it, but I'm very into EMS now.
11:21What is that?
11:22That's the electrical one where like you put the vest on and then they electrocute you.
11:25But I like to do EMS on a Pilates machine.
11:28Okay.
11:29This sounds like ready or not.
11:30What am I doing?
11:31That sounds crazy.
11:32I'll do it because you told me to, but I'm electrocuting myself on a Pilates machine?
11:35Yeah.
11:36Oh my God.
11:37And not even talkable?
11:37And with water too.
11:38What?
11:39Yeah, they wet you down first, yeah.
11:41Oh my God.
11:42It's like we really feel the electrical stimulation.
11:43That is absolutely insane.
11:44I've never heard of this.
11:46I'm obsessed.
11:46How long have you been doing that?
11:47Electric muscle stimulation.
11:49Wow.
11:49That is beautiful.
11:50Why?
11:51Switching gears a little bit and I don't want to dwell too much, Sarah Michelle, but the
11:55Buffy cancellation.
11:56It just, it really broke my heart.
11:58I know that it broke yours and I guess my-
12:00And Chloe's.
12:01And Chloe's.
12:01Just like my one question is could, is there a chance we could revive it in some way with
12:08a different home?
12:09I just hate how it was one dude who got in the way of this.
12:13Like I, ready or not, here I come.
12:15Like you know what I'm saying?
12:16Like this-
12:17And also one dude ruining anything if I had a nickel.
12:18Yeah.
12:19Jesus.
12:20It's just, it's so-
12:21There's a really coded Buffy message there.
12:23Yeah.
12:25Um, I don't know.
12:26You don't know.
12:27I, I don't know anything is really the truth.
12:30Yeah.
12:30I didn't know this was coming.
12:32I, I, I, I told you guys literally right when I heard, I heard that night, I made the
12:39video that night.
12:40I sat on it for a night and then I, I put it out the next day and you know
12:45what I know.
12:46Yeah.
12:46That is what I do.
12:47Your, your fans appreciate so much how open you are with that because there are so many
12:52times when someone, cause I, of course all the headlines like, sorry, Michelle breaks
12:55our silence.
12:55I was like, and usually whenever silence is broken, it's like, hi.
12:57And I was like, oh, we got everything.
12:58So I appreciated that.
13:00You know, I, I'm not normally the one that says everything, but in this instance, these
13:08fans, it's, it's more than just a show, right?
13:11It's a, it's, it's in our DNA and I think it deserves respect.
13:17And when I don't see it being given the respect, then I have to stand up for that because that's
13:24important to me.
13:25Yeah.
13:26Um, so you guys know, I mean, I, I, you know what I know.
13:29Yeah.
13:29I just, I hope the pilot leaks somehow cause I want to see it so bad.
13:33I actually hope it doesn't because then everyone's going to have an opinion on this and that.
13:38Yeah.
13:39And pilots are not finished.
13:40Right.
13:41That's true.
13:42Right.
13:42It's not like we did a season and finished it.
13:45And then they shelved it.
13:46It's not like when they made, um, Bat, Batgirl, the movie.
13:49Right.
13:49And then didn't show it.
13:50Right.
13:50That movie was finished.
13:51That was a, we were still, you make a pilot.
13:55I want to clarify this.
13:56You know, we made a pilot on purpose because there's some new characters or some, you know,
14:02and you want to see how it goes and there's things you learn from it.
14:05And there's things you fix.
14:07Usually a pilot doesn't air in its entirety ever.
14:10Um, and so you use that information to then as a, it's a learning tool.
14:16So you can, I mean, the original Buffy pilot was nothing to do with the show on the first
14:20time.
14:21Gotcha.
14:22Okay.
14:22It was different Willow.
14:23I mean, it's a very different show, but those are learning tools and that's what a pilot
14:27is.
14:28And so in this day and age, I know I've seen a version of the script out there.
14:30It's not actually correct.
14:31Oh, okay.
14:33Um, that stuff is really unfortunate.
14:35And I ask fans, if you see scripts, if you see it leaked, don't watch it cause you're
14:41not getting our visions and all of that.
14:44And I will do more of a disservice to them.
14:45It would.
14:46It would.
14:46Yeah.
14:46That makes sense.
14:47But I know also, you know what?
14:48There's two things you can do.
14:50If you want to make this right right now, there's, there's two things people can do.
14:54You can go stream Buffy.
14:57Yeah.
14:57Go watch it.
14:58Go see my movie.
14:59Okay.
15:00Go see the movie.
15:00Like go buy a ticket.
15:01Like those.
15:02That's what you can do right now.
15:03That's all we can do right now.
15:05And I mean, that's why they are so lucky cause ready or not to here I come as in theaters
15:07on Friday.
15:08And I do love cause it is competition.
15:09The last question before they go, are you a competitive person?
15:12No.
15:13No.
15:14As she nods her head.
15:15Yeah.
15:15She's like, I'm not competitive.
15:16I win.
15:17Find me on the Pilates to be elect, elect, shocking myself in water.
15:20Yeah.
15:20Yes.
15:21I'm very competitive.
15:22Oh my God.
15:22Well, I mean, ready or not to here I come is going to be, I'm already saying you're
15:25one.
15:25You're my winner.
