00:06To me Sea of Thieves is basically every pirate show or every pirate film you've ever seen
00:11that you can actually play, you can be immersed in and you can be the pirate you want, right?
00:15I think that's the promise of the game for me.
00:17Yeah, I think so. I think it's like living the pirate life is kind of how I'd describe
00:21what we're trying to achieve, that we want players to be able to really immerse themselves
00:25into what it's like to be a pirate, whether that's the sailing or the fighting or the drinking
00:30or the camaraderie in a crew. We want to kind of give players all of that kind of pirate
00:34experience in kind of one game. It's basically the freedom to do what you like. I mean, as
00:38a child I used to love going on adventures and to me that was like, kind of, usually with
00:42a bunch of friends and if I could get other people to kind of come with me we'd have like
00:46rival denser, it's almost like rival crews on the ship. That's what adventure is in this
00:50game, it's just island hopping or just kind of sailing wherever you want, kind of, either
00:55following a map or not following a map or just kind of doing what you like.
00:59It's this world you can just, it's go adventuring in, you can choose your own goals, but it's
01:04always that magic of when you see that set of sails on the horizon, it's another player
01:07or another group of players and you don't know what they want.
01:10I mean, players have almost really grasped, it's almost like they can almost see our design
01:14document or our ideas of things we want to implement.
01:17I think the theme gives you that though, right?
01:19Yeah, I think it does. It does just write itself, it's like, will there be a kraken?
01:23Yeah, of course we'll, there'll be a kraken at some point.
01:25Can I go on quests? Can I go and seek treasure?
01:27Can I, you know, fight other ships? It's just generally, I think, yeah, all of those things
01:31you kind of expect today, right?
01:33Yeah, I think players expect from other games is kind of a big presence of AI where there's
01:37like legendary pirates that we put in the game and they're controlled by AI and you come
01:42across them and maybe interact with them, but that's not our game at all and we've always
01:46wanted the players to be the legends, so to me that is where we're really different and where
01:51all the speculation around kind of the AI characters is off the mark.
01:55It is always online, right? But if players want to go adventuring in that world on their
02:00own, that's definitely a kind of a possibility for those guys, right? Because we know that
02:03it's an expectation sometimes, you don't want to necessarily socialise with other people
02:07or your friends aren't online or you just want to just nip in there and just have a really
02:10kind of different, unique experience.
02:12I think that's the unpredictability of that. Sometimes you'll see nobody, sometimes you might
02:15see another ship, sometimes you might come across two or more ships at one time. I think,
02:20that's the really interesting bit about how we're handling the online experience.
02:24I think the biggest thing that kind of differentiates ourselves from an MMO is the word massive.
02:31We're not a game with a massive number of players because we want every encounter between players
02:35to feel really personal and special. It's like a big event when you see another ship. It's
02:39not like a boat in Lake where there's like hundreds of ships with thousands of players all sailing
02:44around. It's what happens between the ships as a result becomes memorable because it's not
02:48happening all the time. You're not guaranteed to bump into players. So as a result, you
02:52kind of remember the stories that happened between the ships and what happened.
02:55so an MMO for us is a memorable multiplayer online.
02:59Yes, very nice.
03:00I'll see.
03:01Yeah.
03:22It's amazing.
03:23Grazie a tutti.
