00:13We have an obsession to build a world that makes sense.
00:16We want our city to be credible
00:17before making a game.
00:19We call it a world-first approach.
00:30It's really important for us to create a city that feels alive.
00:34We speak a lot in Watch Dogs 2 about the world being a simulation
00:37and that's really the fundamental aspect of it.
00:40We wanted the world to be non-player-centric,
00:44meaning it will live without you being there.
00:47And once you go there,
00:48then it's a place to discover and live in and play.
00:53The world of Watch Dogs 2 was a big challenge
00:56because it's twice as big as Chicago was.
01:00So we have the marine county,
01:02more organic at the north.
01:04We have Oakland, we have San Francisco,
01:06and also Silicon Valley.
01:08Each region has its own flavor.
01:11So San Francisco is the more colorful,
01:14Michigan district is more Mediterranean revival.
01:17The variety with the architecture in San Francisco is huge
01:23because it's the quintessence of each district.
01:25One thing that we did at Watch Dogs 2
01:27to continue to push our ability to convey a real world,
01:31as we did a lot more research.
01:33We send many, many people just to scale the area
01:36to make sure what we're doing is credible.
01:38We went there several times.
01:39We had teams going there for us doing interviews as well.
01:42Dig into certain people of San Francisco
01:44that we thought were interesting,
01:46just to inspire ourselves about the mindset.
01:48We really wanted to hit the vibe,
01:50the major landmarks, the feeling.
01:52We took a lot of pictures.
01:54We did movies.
01:55We visited some secret places.
01:58We worked a lot with street art,
02:00the murals, the graffiti.
02:02We went as far as sending a guy with a GoPro on his helmet
02:06to, you know, to go through all the streets
02:08so we get the vibe.
02:10You need to have the vibe, the people in it.
02:12When you're really in San Francisco,
02:13if you go downtown San Francisco early in the morning,
02:17you're going to feel like there's not much people.
02:19Some oboes are in there.
02:20They're very colorful.
02:21This time around, I think people will feel like
02:23not only the place is beautiful,
02:24but the personalities of the people around
02:27will relate with the people who understand
02:29how the vibe of San Francisco and the Bay Area works.
02:35One of the things we wanted to push forward
02:37and watch that students make sure that the world
02:39would offer many different stories,
02:40many different things to discover.
02:42The whole progression of the game is about world exploration.
02:46If you're walking in Watch Dogs 2 in the city of San Francisco,
02:50you don't know what you're going to find
02:52and you don't know what type of gameplay challenge will be there.
02:56But if you start digging around and looking at people,
02:59digging into secrets through hacking,
03:01then you can find missions, certain stories.
03:03So there's big operations you do
03:05where you're going to reveal the truth on something big
03:07and have impacts and get followers,
03:09but you can also do the same thing in the same loop
03:11with smaller operations.
03:13And these will dig into more specific subject matters,
03:16like exploring gentrification in San Francisco
03:18and tied with technology,
03:20or dig into certain mysteries and interestingly inspired stories
03:24about hacking and these kind of stuff.
03:26And on top of that, then you can do the activities.
03:29So e-cart racing, sailboat racing, drone challenges,
03:33dirt bike as well.
03:34If you open your phone, you can do Scout X,
03:36which is basically visit the landmarks of the Bay Area.
03:40So you're exploring the world
03:41and now you're finding stories that you can do.
03:44The NPCs in Watch Dogs 2 are closer to a simulation,
03:47meaning if you don't exist, they will be doing things together
03:51without you actually needing to interact.
03:54So they can fight, they can bicker, they can interact,
03:56and that can be used to take advantage in gameplay moments.
04:00It certainly is a living world to wander around in Watch Dogs 2.
04:04And I think that when players start messing around
04:07with the people around, not only it's a living world,
04:09but it's an interactive world.
04:14You know, being able to wander around in an open world
04:17is a place where players want to get surprised.
04:20And I think Watch Dogs with Seamless Online
04:22have an extra way to supply players by other players.
04:26We really wanted to include co-op
04:29because you're part of DeadSec.
04:31You can basically explore the whole world in co-op.
04:33Being with your buddies, doing things with them,
04:36partaking in stories about DeadSec was really important.
04:39and so co-op is fundamental to that.
04:41It's all over the place, right?
04:42It's not just co-op and missions.
04:44That's new and it's great,
04:45but it's also bringing back the invasions,
04:48but with the new mechanics.
04:49We have a new form of invasion we call the bounty.
04:53So we have something called the DeadSec events.
04:55We're really excited about how those possibilities can fit,
04:58because in the end, even after the narrative
05:01has been consumed and all of these things,
05:03the simulation in the system stays.
05:04So the best stories that come about Watch Dogs 2
05:07become stories about players,
05:08because it's always the case.
05:10It's the ideas that millions of players combine together
05:12that blows our minds.
