00:05Choose Morecambe. Choose kids, lots of them. Choose a new pie making machine with all the
00:12latest gadgets. Choose 22 servings of Christmas pudding. Choose a bigger washing machine.
00:21Choose your last chance getting fit before you drop dead.
00:26But not all decisions in life are easy to make. It's enough to stress you out.
00:36I can't afford to leave work but I'm just scared to do my normal day-to-day stuff like
00:41going to work and that in case it ever happened again. I really do believe that
00:45Harley could benefit massively from getting a dog. I think it would help him
00:48with his stress levels. But sometimes stress just follows you around.
00:53If we're going to operate, the sooner we do it the better. Or don't be upset by it
00:57but we can propel it to sleep. I can't believe it, they're not doing it.
01:01I'm not letting it happen. They're not f***ing killing my dog, it's not happening.
01:30Which giletto would you like to go to?
01:32I'll tell you. Throughout the summer, Morecambe is packed to the rafters with holidaymakers.
01:38It's 2.53 and 4 and then these big ones are 5. This boom leads to an abundance of seasonal
01:44job opportunities.
01:46Take a cash or card. Thank you very much girls.
01:50Right, come on everyone.
01:51Not least within Radford's pies. Line up along this table here.
01:56A rush of orders has meant all hands on deck.
01:59I've got you all in to help out. Chloe and Amy, you're going to wrap the pies.
02:06Max, you're going to make the cardboard boxes. Today, there are some unexpected members
02:12of the team. Phoebe and Hallie, they can put the polystyrene boxes inside. Bonnie can stick
02:17the stickers on the boxes. It's a little bit of work experience for you, isn't it?
02:22It's like a well-oiled machine. A machine that makes pies and talks back, argues and drops
02:28pies on the floor. Before anyone accused me of child labour, it was just a mix-up between
02:34me and Mum. That's why the kids are here. And as soon as Mum gets back, they can go and
02:40I can get on. We're not making chocolate. Oh, this is so painful.
02:45Do you feel like Willy Wonka, watching over your empire? No, the Oompa Loompas did as
02:51they were told. Girls, are you winning? Amy, wrap them, then you count them, Tilly.
02:56Max, Amy and Tilly are the latest additions to a long line of Radford employees.
03:01Ever since Radford's pies, we've always had one of the Radfords working for us and it
03:05makes a massive difference. How are we getting on putting the boxes together?
03:08What's your job, Dad? What are you doing? I'm the supervisor. Not all the kids want
03:13to come and work here, but that's absolutely fine. Some of the kids, it's just not for
03:17them. I think Dad's going to be sacking a lot
03:18of people tonight. Do you know the rubber outfit? Oh, my God.
03:26Welcome to my crib. One of the Radford renegades is starting her new job today.
03:32I didn't carry on working out at my Dad's shop because I was ready to pop with Ophelia.
03:39And plus, I've seen enough of my Dad. I've seen him every day. I think we just argue
03:43all the time. Let's be having you, Henry. Come on.
03:48With the pie shop not on the menu, she's started work at one of Morecambe's holiday camps.
03:54I clean caravans, which is just what I love to do. I can smell farts. I can't breathe.
04:04I've seen my next-door neighbour. I was working here. I was like, oh, I might get a job there
04:09with you. I quite like to do my cleaning. My mum and Dad will tell you how much I love
04:14cleaning up. And there's no children on my legs, clinging. I get to work by myself.
04:20It's that's therapy. Best way to see a caravans in 45 minutes. Smash your beds and work back to front.
04:30After five years spent having her three children,
04:34this is the first regular job that Millie has taken.
04:37All I've known is staying at home and being a mother. And like, I'm the one that goes to the
04:42doctor's appointments, takes them to nursery, does the shopping list every week, cooks most of the
04:47meals. But I did enjoy it. I actually am really surprised that Millie's gone back to work. She's
04:52always struck me as a mother like myself, who always wanted to be there for the key moments of
04:56her kids growing up. So this has shocked me a bit. Right. But Millie isn't back at work by choice.
05:04Money at the minute, finances are tight. We've got a lot going out and only one wage coming in.
05:12So I didn't have much choice but to go back to work. The thing that I'm most surprised about is
05:18that Millie has left Harley at home with the kids. Because when Millie wasn't at work, Harley didn't
05:23really have the kids so much on his own. And I'm not really sure that he coped with it too
05:28well.
05:32Jester, stop. We've said no. Oh, Elodie.
05:37At home.
05:39Absolutely disgusting that.
05:41Harley is struggling.
05:43When it's free, like, I want this, I want that. And they're just all fine. So yeah, it is really
05:48hard.
05:48Please, Daddy's busy. Come on. I feel like when the kids stress, I stress.
05:52Elodie. Oh, this is gross. Daddy's going in the toilet.
05:59Millie's giving me a list of chores today. With all the kids being here, it's really hard work.
06:03Elodie. No. No, Elodie.
06:07Harley running the show was not in their plans. I don't have a clue.
06:12Despite not being able to afford it, he's had to leave work following a major health scare.
06:17My face drooped on my left side. Next to me, I just felt really weak in my left side of
06:25my body.
06:26I'm, like, swearing my words.
06:28You've got high blood pressure, haven't you?
06:30Yeah, well, obviously, I am scared. I think anyone would be scared if they thought they'd
06:35have had a stroke at such a young age.
06:38The doctors did say it was a thing called Bell's Pawsly. I don't know what it was caused,
06:44because they actually couldn't tell me, but I do feel like it was stress because of work and the kids.
06:50I am, like, an actual stressy person. Stroke's scared. It is on my mind.
06:56It has changed me. Yeah, I am more stressed. It was horrible.
07:02I'm only 24 years of age, and, like, it's a risk of a stroke.
07:07So, I'm just scared to do my normal day-to-day stuff, like going to work and, like...
07:13Because, obviously, I've got kids now and I've got a wife.
07:17I don't want something to happen again.
07:20He's got a lot going on at the minute.
07:23So, I do definitely worry about him.
07:26His health scare has caused him to have really bad anxiety.
07:32I can normally see it before Harley speaks to me about how it's making him feel.
07:39A lot of Harley's stress at the minute is the finances and the kids.
07:45I didn't want to leave him at home by himself, but one of us has to go to work.
07:50No holiday. Right.
07:54No! Ophelia! Naughty! No!
07:57I'm just counting down the minutes so I can get back.
08:01Stop!
08:02Tester!
08:14Hello. Hello. What has gone on?
08:18It's a pigsty and what is that in the kitchen floor?
08:21Wait a bit of fries.
08:22You look really drained.
08:24Why don't you go upstairs and have a lie down and I'll sort this lot out?
08:32I'll eat at the moment.
08:34I'm getting really concerned.
08:37I just don't know what to do.
08:40He was struggling at work and now he's struggling at home.
08:43I don't think he's in a great place now.
08:46I think we're heading into the unknown.
08:47I don't know.
08:58It's been a really long day.
09:11We have so much to do
09:19It's been one heck of a day
09:25Oh, my God.
09:27Millie has been concerned for husband Harley's health.
09:30Honestly, these kids have been wild.
09:33I do get a bit worried that if he carries on saying the stress is what he is,
09:37that he is going to have another health scare.
09:41He is in a vicious circle because being at home means he can't work.
09:45He has too much time to think.
09:49He's just worried about it ever happening again because it really did scare him.
09:54Should we chill out and watch TV?
09:56So I've got myself thinking, what does every chaotic household really, really need?
10:01More kids?
10:01No.
10:02More holidays?
10:03No.
10:04A younger woman?
10:05Hey.
10:06Go on then.
10:07What is it?
10:09Hi, Mum.
10:10I've got something to show you.
10:12Look.
10:14We have a new doggy.
10:17Oh, so cute.
10:19She's very, very cute.
10:21What is she?
10:22Her mum is a Jack Russell and her dad is a Shih Tzu.
10:26I think she's a Jack Tzu.
10:28You cross a Jack Russell with a Shih Tzu.
10:31Don't you get a Jack?
10:33Oh, never mind.
10:34She's got brown on one side.
10:36Yeah.
10:37The kids are going to love her.
10:38She's got like a love heart fur pattern on her back.
10:41She looks really playful.
10:43She is.
10:44I think it's a really, really good idea you've got for a dog, especially for Hallie because
10:48he's quite stressed, isn't he?
10:50It'll really help Hallie.
10:51I feel like a dog would be stressed as you.
10:53Yeah, I think she's going to help massively.
10:57Meet our new doggy.
10:58What is that?
11:00Bella.
11:02Do you want to see her?
11:04She's our new addition.
11:08I hope Bella engaging with the kids improves their behaviour and puts a lot more structure
11:13in the house and a lot more of a routine.
11:16So the kids will be interested in playing with Bella all day and maybe not so much Mithra
11:21and Harley.
11:21I'm praying to God it does help.
11:24Shall we let her out?
11:25Right there.
11:26Are we ready?
11:28Now you're letting a dog run around our house.
11:31You don't sound very happy.
11:33I just feel like it's going to cause more stress.
11:35I don't know where she's coming from.
11:37With like Hallie that'd help me.
11:39With three kids it's hard work and it's so a dog, it's just going to be really hard
11:43to work.
11:44Ah, not quite the reaction you were hoping for, Millie.
11:52Come on, Ling.
11:55Who wants a treat?
11:57Someone more than qualified to know the benefits of some canine company is mother of 22, sorry,
12:04owner of eight dogs, Sue.
12:07Having kids is amazing but also having dogs is also just as amazing.
12:13They've all gone.
12:15It's empty.
12:16You've had them all.
12:18I think it's really nice for the kids to grow up with dogs as well.
12:22I always kind of think that a house isn't really a home without a dog.
12:27But would Millie and Harley's home benefit from having a dog?
12:32Harley's doing most of the childcare at the minute because Millie's working.
12:35He's quite a stressful person.
12:37So, you'll be able to get out, take the dog for a walk.
12:42I'm hoping that Bella can be a therapy dog and reduce stress for Harley.
12:47I've heard that dogs can help children as well, so I'm hoping that Bella can help Chester
12:51and Ophelia.
12:55There's nothing better than coming home, if you've been out for a few hours, to the dogs
12:59who give you just so much love and kisses that you can tell that you are their absolute world.
13:07Someone needs to tell Harley.
13:10The purpose behind Bella was to kind of help Harley.
13:21Harley is a bit ish about Bella.
13:24I'm worried that I might have made the wrong decision.
13:36No matter how successful your business is,
13:39providing for 22 kids, 11 grandkids and 8 dogs does not come cheap.
13:46Sue, look at this.
13:47What is it?
13:49Spare cash is always a welcome surprise.
13:51So, we got this from one of the old building sites that used to have.
13:57Actually, still some money in it.
13:59Oh.
13:59I haven't been to this account since, well, we lived in Kendall.
14:03Oh, my God.
14:04So, that's like 20 years ago.
14:06Sounds like a nice little windfall by the way Sue's eyes lit up there.
14:10That's good.
14:11Yeah.
14:11So, what should we spend that on?
14:13Nothing.
14:13Well, you haven't even got it in here.
14:15Are they trying to spend it?
14:16When it comes to the Radfords' finances,
14:19Noel and Sue definitely aren't on the same balance sheet.
14:23I'd rather squirrel it away.
14:27I think we should treat ourselves.
14:29I know what you'd do.
14:31You'd want a new dishwasher.
14:32Couples disagreeing over money
14:34is one of the biggest causes of marital strife.
14:37What would you say the Achilles heel is in our relationship?
14:40You not spending money.
14:42Me not spending money.
14:43Are you spending money?
14:44We need a new laptop because one of the kids have broken, like, the space bar.
14:48And I keep saying to him,
14:49you're going to have to get a new one.
14:50No, I'm not doing that.
14:52You are actually a relative to Ebenezer Scrooge.
14:55I'm not willing to pay for a new one just for the sake of a space bar.
14:59I'll just put up with it.
15:01You're more like Kylie Jenner.
15:02You've probably got more handbags than her.
15:04Women don't really have a problem with spending money.
15:06Men are a bit more like, no, we don't need that.
15:09I like to plan my finances down to the penny.
15:13I like to know what we're spending the money on, where it's going.
15:15I'm always saving some for a rainy day.
15:18And let's face it, there's a lot of rainy days up here.
15:21I have been really wanting to get some new units, like, in here.
15:26They're just looking a bit old and tatty now.
15:29But every suggestion that I've made to Noel is like,
15:32these are all right.
15:33Why would you want to spend any more money on getting some new units?
15:35Things I like spending my money on are, you know, things like machinery.
15:39For the bakery, I know it costs money, but it's going to return.
15:43It's an investment, isn't it?
15:45Well, when it comes to arguing over money, who would you say wins, Sue?
15:48The only other thing that I would really like to have done in this house
15:50is just a new stair carpet.
15:52Well, we don't argue that often, but when we do, you know.
15:55Well, I think you know the answer to that one.
15:57A stair carpet, it all looks lovely, but that's it, isn't it?
16:01I'm not going to gain anything else from it.
16:03Come on, you two, there's a decision to make.
16:05You've got a cheque for three grand.
16:07Who's spending it?
16:09I'd probably get the dogs, like, some new dog beds.
16:12Oh, I could get some, like, heated dog beds for them.
16:15New dog leads, new doggy coats, new jumpers.
16:19No, just give up and accept your feet.
16:22Do need a new telly.
16:23Probably do need a new kettle tap thing.
16:26I've definitely had my eye on this really nice dress that I want to get.
16:29House could do with a bit of a paint.
16:31No.
16:42Bella arrived a couple of days ago to help improve the kids' behaviour
16:46and ease Harley's stress, and she's quickly made new friends.
16:53Kids have woke up this morning, all playing lovely with Bella,
16:56and even Chester has sat down really nice.
16:58My favourite dog.
17:01Kids know, when Bella's eating breakfast, they're eating breakfast,
17:03and when Bella's eating tea, they're eating tea.
17:06And, yeah, there's a lot more of a routine and a lot more structure,
17:08which I think we definitely needed in this house, so it's been lovely.
17:12Give them kisses, Bella.
17:13The impact of Bella has definitely improved the kids' behaviour.
17:18Look at that.
17:20It's lowered the stress level in this house.
17:23But what about Harley?
17:26Come on.
17:30What's down here?
17:32A beach.
17:33To be honest, I thought the house was going to be a lot more crazy if we got Bella,
17:37but since we've had her, she just chills everyone out at home,
17:40and I'm less stressed.
17:43She has been a calming influence around me
17:45because I'm just not thinking about everything and worrying.
17:50To be honest, no, I didn't realise how much I could fall in love with a dog.
17:54I look back on the old days
17:56Back then never seemed strange
17:59Oh, I should have seen the signs
18:01That there could be you and I
18:04Could this be the moments I say
18:14I know that you're the one
18:16I know that you're the one
18:18I could have imagined life without her
18:22Do you like that?
18:24Yeah?
18:25You've been a good girl, haven't you?
18:26I know that you're the one
18:30Come on, Bella
18:31Let's go home
18:39There's a special day for the Radfords fast approaching
18:43So, do you want to come and have a look at this?
18:46It's our wedding anniversary coming up very soon
18:48And I thought, why not book a nice luxury hotel?
18:52Did you just shout me?
18:53Yeah, to get away for our wedding anniversary
18:56Look at this place, look
18:58What do you think of that?
19:00What do you think of going there?
19:02Well, I'm definitely up for that
19:04You don't have to ask me twice, Noel
19:06Noel's up to something
19:08It's a bit of a win-win for me, is this one
19:09Because Sue's going to think I've gone mad
19:12And got this nice luxury time away for us both
19:16But it's from a windfall
19:18So it's not really cost me anything at all
19:19It's money I didn't know I had
19:22Ah, you know the way to a woman's heart, Noel
19:24What a charmer
19:26Look at the views you get from there, look
19:28Yeah?
19:30I was actually really impressed to see Noel
19:32Wanting to spend some money on us too for a change
19:34That is definitely something that does not happen very often
19:40It looks good, it does look nice
19:43But then I had an idea
19:45No, that is really nice
19:47But we've got that money now
19:49So why don't we go like a little bit better?
19:53You know, I feel like we could add that to the budget, couldn't we?
19:56Noel's plan has backfired
19:59Yeah, let's have a look at this one
20:01See, I knew you'd do that, I knew you'd put that place in
20:04You want to go to Dubai again?
20:06It was their anniversary last year when they gambled on a trip to Dubai
20:10Last time we went to Dubai
20:12Katie was three weeks off, well, giving birth, wasn't she?
20:16But she insisted that we went
20:18No sooner had they left
20:20Mid-air, I got a text saying that Katie's waters had broke
20:24So we landed
20:25We're up back on our way home again
20:27And then got a flight home straight away
20:29We've literally got to the hotel
20:31And really booked the flights to go home again
20:33It's a long way for four hours
20:36And this is why I don't want to go back
20:38I feel that place now is going to be cursed for us
20:40It's a once-in-a-lifetime trip, isn't it?
20:42I mean, nobody's pregnant
20:43Nothing like that's going to happen again, is it?
20:47It'll be fine, Noel
20:48Stop being so superstitious
20:50The thought of open-wallet surgery
20:53Has stressed Noel right out
20:57That looks nice, doesn't it?
21:00Oh, it's enough to make you need a holiday
21:02Shall we get it booked, then?
21:08You're not a big girl, are you?
21:10A little beautiful puppy
21:13It's been three days
21:15And Harley is loving his new life
21:17With ten-week-old dog Bella
21:20Hiya
21:25It's nice to have, like, a family pet
21:27To have, like, the extra company
21:29A little bit
21:30When Millie's working
21:31It does feel like having another baby, I guess, isn't it?
21:35But obviously not sat there feeding the milk
21:3724-7 and stuff
21:40She cheers us all up
21:42It just feels like it completes her family, I guess
21:46This last week is definitely the happiest I've seen Harley in months
21:50Bella has transformed him
21:54Hello
21:56What's this?
21:58Bella has given this family structure
22:01She's, like, a massive part of our morning routine now as well, isn't she?
22:04Yeah
22:04You can just get the dog's lead and just go out for a nice family walk
22:07Walk as far as you like, yeah
22:09I feel like falling more for her
22:11Oh
22:19Hello
22:26Millie
22:27Harley spotted something
22:31She's got a lump
22:32She's got a lump on her
22:34Where?
22:35Bella has some nasty-looking swelling that shouldn't be there
22:39I can't see it
22:41So it's there
22:43Be a bit careful
22:46Oh, there
22:50That doesn't look good
22:53It could be dangerous
23:08Yesterday, Harley discovered a concerning lump on new dog, Bella
23:13Come on
23:14Come on
23:15And this morning, it's doubled in size
23:22On my way to the vet, I started to worry because she's so young and the lump's grown so quickly
23:30I'd be heartbroken if anything happened
23:36Is there anything that you're worried about?
23:38Yeah
23:38Just a little lung
23:40What happened?
23:41When did you first time notice that?
23:43I had a look yesterday
23:44And today it's got a lot bigger
23:46Still have happened
23:46Okay, yes
23:49The problem with the hernia, that's the area where femoral artery and vein is going
23:54And there's a lot of very important structures
23:57Mm-hmm
23:57That sounds serious
23:58The biggest worry here is the risk of strangulation of the intestine
24:04If a loop of intestine is trapped, then that's the life-treatening
24:08Yeah
24:08The question is, how quickly it's getting bigger?
24:12If it's getting bigger now, then we are at the higher risk that something might get wrong
24:18Yeah, it's getting bigger
24:20Yeah
24:20Definitely, like, that is massive compared to yesterday
24:24Yeah, okay
24:25Bella's condition, if left untreated, could kill her
24:30The thought of losing Bella was...
24:33It was a massive shock, I definitely wasn't expecting it
24:37I was frightened to have to explain it to the kids and obviously Harley would be heartbroken
24:42So that would be just destroying
24:46Bella
24:50Bella's condition has been diagnosed
24:52Now it's down to one of the veterinary nurses to spell out their options
24:57So, your options are you leave it
24:59Whether there's future complications which might be more serious to her and potentially fatal
25:05When she said Bella could die and I was really upset
25:08I can't really explain it
25:10I don't like the way you feel like something's just been drained out of you
25:13Just stressed and just really worried
25:19Obviously we operate, that's the option that we would ideally like to go down
25:24There's obviously costs associated with that, which you're obviously more than £2,000
25:29But Millie and Harley are broke
25:31Which I know is a big financial strain for anybody
25:37When the vets told us that it was going to cost more than £2,000
25:40I was like, blown away
25:43I'm the only one working
25:46Savings with three kids is no good
25:48We don't have that money spent
25:50She's also so young and so little
25:52And she may not survive the surgery
25:58And then the third option, which is not something we like to talk about
26:00But we can offer euthanasia
26:02We can put Bella to sleep
26:10Millie and Harley now have to make one of the toughest decisions of their lives
26:19It is a massive shock
26:22It's a massive shock
26:24Without surgery, she'll just die
26:26Tomorrow
26:28In a month
26:29It'll just happen whenever
26:33If we want to save Bella's life and avoid having her put to sleep
26:37We need to find two grand and quick
26:40I don't know what I'm going to do
26:42She's become a massive part of our family, yeah
26:46We can't lose her, but where are we going to get the money from?
26:59This is really nice, isn't it?
27:00It is really nice, yeah
27:03Noel and Sue have beaten their curse of Dubai
27:06And are now on day two of their anniversary getaway
27:09I told you everything would work out this time
27:12Lightning never strikes twice
27:16Just look at this view
27:18This is what we've come for
27:22We absolutely love this place
27:24The sunshine
27:26It's just peaceful and quiet and relaxing
27:28Boosted by Noel's windfall
27:30Sue upgraded the Lake District to a Dubai 5 star
27:34Sue is already oiled up on the beach
27:37On the lounger
27:39I would say my mum's the classy one in the relationship
27:42She knows about like fine dining
27:44Classy wines, all that stuff
27:47She would definitely know
27:49If that place is worth spending that bit of extra money on
27:52Yeah, so God bless Dad
27:54He knows his pies and pasties
27:56However, I would be asking for my mum's advice
27:59For my special getaways
28:01It's lovely
28:02I've heard that way to spend our web numbers
28:04Yeah
28:05Sue's organised for them to spend a few days here
28:07Before upgrading to an even plusher place
28:10For their final five days of the trip
28:14We're going to really spoil ourselves for that, aren't we?
28:16For our actual anniversary bit of it
28:18Oh, it makes me wince
28:19When I see how much money we're spending on luxury
28:22But I can put those thoughts to the side
28:23When I see how happy it makes Sue
28:27Oh, it's like a smiling grimace
28:40Back in Morecambe
28:42Millie, keep it up
28:44The shock has sunk in for Millie and Harley
28:46And now they're going all out to raise the cash to save Bella
28:50What about my laptop?
28:52I don't want to, but I'm sure that will help
28:55I could save my Xbox as well
28:57Oh dear
29:00Yeah, we did literally get up and like, start looking for stuff to sell
29:03We didn't even speak about it really, did we?
29:06No
29:06We knew we needed to raise the cash
29:08Somehow
29:08What about my watch?
29:10So your laptop, your watch
29:13What about the TV?
29:14Yeah
29:14What's in the kids' room?
29:17Nothing it seems is off limits
29:19What about this? We don't use this
29:21OK
29:22What about the pram? Ellen's starting to walk now
29:25What, sell the pram?
29:27Yeah
29:27Yeah
29:28But raising over £2,000 is a big ask
29:32The telly's probably worth about £100
29:35The laptop, about £150
29:38Aside from a few big ticket items, it's proving a challenge
29:42With the stuff we've got, we're literally miles off
29:44We can't sell nothing
29:46There is one person that might be able to help
29:48Have you asked your mum for the money?
29:51I can't ask mum because it's not fair to put that on her
29:54My mum and dad already do so much for us
29:57And beside that, they're on holiday
29:59And if I told mum about Bella, it would really upset her
30:03They've ripped the house apart
30:04And with nothing left to sell, Bella's fate seems sealed
30:13I can't believe it, they're not doing it
30:15I'm not letting it happen
30:17They're not f***ing killing my dog, it's not happening
30:30I can't believe it
30:30Millie's playing the only card she has left
30:44Hiya, I'm wanting to sell something
30:51You alright, love?
30:53I've pawned my ringing
30:55You've pawned your ring?
30:56Are you joking me?
30:58No
30:58Oh, heck
30:59I don't understand
31:02Her wedding ring's like very important, you know
31:04But so's Bella
31:07Millie was hoping her wedding ring would raise the cash needed
31:11Has it even covered it?
31:13No
31:13Like anywhere close?
31:15No
31:19No
31:20So, like, what are we going to do?
31:22I don't know
31:24Aside from saving Bella, Millie has only 28 days to find the money she's been loaned
31:30Or she'll never see her wedding ring again
31:36Wow
31:43Right, come on dogs
31:46There we go
31:47Word has spread to the house that Bella's life is in danger
31:52I'm really shocked, I didn't expect anything like that to happen to her
31:58When we heard about Bella, definitely made me realise a lot more about the dogs and how much love we
32:03give them and how much you care for them
32:06Man's best friend has always been a welcome addition to the Radford house
32:10I think family and pets are equal, I love them like both as much
32:15To mum, the dogs are her babies
32:18I see the dogs as little babies as well
32:20So hearing that Millie got Bella, there's like another little baby in the house
32:25You look like Dumbo with those ears
32:29In you go
32:30Bella's illness has given Tilly a reality check
32:35I think I'd be really upset if one of the dogs got sick
32:39And when they are sick, they just don't look like themselves and it's really upsetting
32:44There are currently eight Radford dogs in the house, but they've had plenty more
32:49We've had five others, which were
32:50Rosie, Amber, Noodles, Scooby and Max
33:00I think I was affected by all of the dogs dying, but I was definitely a lot more upset with
33:04Noodles
33:06When we got Noodles, I was born, so we just got him
33:10Noodles was my favourite dog
33:11Because he was tiny and his two bottom teeth would stick up
33:15And he had one eye and he was just a very funny dog
33:20Your dogs are a part of your family as well
33:22So you just need to take care of them as much as you take care of your kids
33:26When somebody in the family is ill
33:28The Radfords rally round
33:31I'm really hoping that she gets better
33:35It would be good for Mum to know because she would want to be able to help Millie with the
33:39dog
33:47Enjoying Dubai's delights, Noel and Sue are getting ready to move hotels
33:51An upgrade to some five-star luxury for the last leg of their anniversary trip
33:57We have had an amazing day today
34:00Nice and relaxed, we've been round the pool
34:03We've been on the beach this afternoon
34:05And we have just had a really lazy, chilled out day
34:09Just a really lazy day today, haven't we?
34:11It's been really nice
34:13Nice and relaxing
34:13We had an afternoon tea, didn't we?
34:16We did, we had a few drinks on the beach
34:17Nice
34:18That was nice
34:18And today it's a lot clearer
34:20You can see over that way
34:22I'll show you in a bit
34:23All the buildings you can see
34:24They're much clearer today
34:25I am alright
34:26Somebody's going past on a jet ski
34:30What?
34:31Millie's done?
34:32Yeah, she's gotten really poorly
34:34Yeah, she's gotten really poorly and they're having to do a surgery on her
34:37Or the highest chances she's going to die
34:39Oh my God, what do you think about that?
34:42The surgery's going to cost like £2000
34:47Millie didn't want to tell you about it
34:49They're trying to sell like a lot of stuff
34:52Millie's even sold her wedding ring
34:54What? She's sold her?
34:56And that's not enough for how much they need for Bella's surgery
35:01They're not good
35:02I've never seen Harley cry like that
35:03They're both really, really upset about it
35:06I don't know what they do
35:07I'm going to have to speak to that
35:11Wow
35:13What an absolute nightmare
35:16A million Harley haven't got that feeling
35:17They haven't got the money
35:18You can't just let them put the dog down
35:20I know, but...
35:21You can't let them put the dog down
35:23It's a couple of thousand pounds here
35:25It's not as if we've got it spare
35:27We've got things to pay for and what have you?
35:30Well, I don't know what we can do
35:33I don't
35:40Do you love Bella?
35:46I feel you don't want to give her a kiss
35:50Aww
35:52That's nice
35:52I'm giving Bella a kiss
35:54Aww
35:55Bella's hernia has grown much bigger
35:59Not wanting her to suffer
36:00They've had to make a huge decision
36:03It's horrible
36:04We can't raise enough cash for Bella's operation
36:08So we're going to have to get her put to sleep
36:12I don't know what to say
36:16Saying goodbye is devastating
36:19It's not fair
36:35You're a brave girl, aren't you?
36:39Bella is part of the family now
36:41And it's a choice that no one should ever have to make
36:43You know, you shouldn't have to choose between love or money, should you?
36:48I think that was the point where we just thought, you know, instead of moving on to the next hotel
36:52Because that's what we were planning on doing
36:53We would get our money back and use that to pay for Bella's operation
36:58The dog's life is way more important
37:01Mom and Dad came to the rescue
37:03They called to say that they could pay for Bella's surgery
37:06The curse of Dubai, we're now calling it
37:08I don't want to say I told you so
37:10But
37:12One day, Norm
37:13One day
37:19Bella isn't out of the woods yet
37:22Operating on a ten-week-old puppy is very risky
37:26They're going to cut through the middle of the belly
37:29Down
37:31Pull her skin to the side and stitch the hernia up
37:36So, we're going to do the surgery
37:38We will admit her, we'll take her off you
37:41We'll see how long the surgery can take
37:43Once she's back in the kennel and recovering, we'll give you a call
37:45Any problems during the operation, we'll give you a call
37:49If you're happy with all of that and the cost, just need a little signature
37:55Okay
37:56We'll keep you updated along the way
37:58Yeah, thank you
37:59Bye Bella
38:02Now all they can do is cross their fingers and put their faith in the vets
38:09They said any surgery is a risk
38:12I kept them thinking of the worst as well
38:15Because, like, she's such a young age and I felt like she might not pull through
38:30You know, it's just a mate
38:32Bella's operation will be happening now, but all they can do is wait
38:41Bella has made me realise that there is some things in life to get stressed about and some things aren't
38:47I realise there's more to life and not to worry about the little things and stuff
38:51Hello?
38:55So, we've just had a phone call off the vets to say that we're not going to hear back now
38:59till about five o'clock
39:01Just got to worry that everything's okay
39:06Right
39:11Oh, this is unbearable
39:16Can you call them?
39:18Hi, my dog Bella's in for surgery. I'm just wondering how she is and if there's any update
39:25Bella isn't going down for another 50 minutes
39:27So, we're not going to find out anything till seven o'clock
39:31It's literally, like, draining me
39:34She's like our new baby, isn't she? So, we just want to know if she's all right
39:42She's all right
39:42If you sit down, Mum, we will make you a bottle
39:43You sit down and make you a bottle
39:50We've been waiting all day, haven't we?
39:52No, come back to me as well
39:54Yeah, right, can I have a cuddle?
39:57Daddy's sad
39:58Yeah, I'm sad
40:00This is draining me
40:08Hello?
40:10Yes, speaking
40:12Oh, really?
40:14Hello?
40:14Yes, speaking
40:15Hello?
40:17Hello?
40:18Hello?
40:22Hello?
40:34Hello?
40:35Hiya?
40:37Mwah
40:39They rang me to say everything was fine but you were asleep and I didn't want to wake you up
40:44Miss Jane?
40:47If you want to pick her up, you have to, like, grab her by the bottom of a cone there
40:51and a bum, something like that
40:53Aww
40:55Did she say she was all right?
40:56Yeah, she was eating and drinking fine as well
40:58Miss Jane!
41:00Yeah, yeah, yeah
41:02Bella will need to put her paws up for two weeks while she heals
41:06Trying to bite me out, yeah
41:08Mwah!
41:09Mwah!
41:10Now money
41:13Money will make you happy
41:16True happiness comes from within
41:19Thank you
41:20What's her breakfast, Noel?
41:24Rubber dub dub
41:27Noel and Sue have swapped five nights in Dubai
41:30Cheers
41:31Happy Anniversary
41:32For one night in a Lake District B&B
41:36This is what Anniversary's about really
41:38Quality time together, it was on our own
41:40Good old fry up
41:42Plus, you don't get black pudding like this in Dubai
41:46It's great news, Bella's going to be fine
41:48Couldn't not have helped Millie and Harley out with a dog
41:52We absolutely adore our dogs
41:54And the thought of ever losing one of them is just, I can't even imagine
41:59Our big decision wasn't really a big decision at all because we both agreed on what we needed to do
42:04And saving Bella wasn't the only thing they helped Millie out with
42:09We've managed to get Millie's wedding ring back
42:11Which is really good
42:13Having been married for 33 years, we know how important these things are
42:18Well, it's been a very different anniversary, hasn't it Noel?
42:21But the main thing is that the dog's alright
42:24Let's hope it helps with Harley now as well
42:26Close my eyes, better times, cross my mind
42:30And I know things are gonna get better
42:34Ah!
42:35Oh!
42:37Bella!
42:38The grass is longer than her
42:42You'd lose her
42:43Come on!
42:45With Bella now fully recovered
42:47It's time to head out for new adventures
42:50Look at her just jumping through the grass walk
42:53She loves it!
42:54She looks like she's happy, doesn't she?
42:56Come on!
42:57Bella's not the only one with a spring in their step
43:00I am feeling a lot better in myself
43:02More confidence because she gets me out of the house
43:06And I just feel less stressed
43:08Yeah, I am looking forward to getting back to her
43:12You're so happy and healthy now, aren't you?
43:15Thank you so much, Mum
43:16Aw, it's better, aren't you?
43:19Cheers!
43:20Cheers!
43:21I kind of think that a house is really a home when you've got a dog
43:24I can't actually think what life would be now without her
43:26No, yeah, looking at Bella makes me want to have another dog
43:30Steady on, Sue
43:34Just go out to the living room, I've got a surprise for you
43:39Ooh!
43:40That sounds interesting
43:43There you go
43:44Happy anniversary, love
43:46Oh, no!
43:47Oh, my goodness!
43:49Look at you!
43:51Hello!
43:53Next time
43:55Maxi's definitely got an engineering broom
43:56I dream is to build jets, tanks and nuclear submarines
44:01Oh, no, no, this is horrible
44:03Good for Annie
44:04I don't want any conflict more
44:05I don't really like people telling me what I can or can't do
44:08With my autism
44:09I'm very bad at English
44:11Can't do this, it's not making any sense
44:16He's been doing a lot of hours at work, like more than he usually would
44:20If he doesn't get this exam result, his dreams will be crushed
44:25If you or someone you know has been affected by any of the issues raised in this programme
44:31Please go to channel5.com slash helplines for information and support
