00:00Penang Mufti Suki Othman has hailed the move to gather representatives of the Muslim and Hindu communities
00:07to find common ground as a positive and mature step for Malaysia's diverse society.
00:13In a world often challenged by religious and ethnic tensions,
00:17he said that dialogue, discussion and the willingness to understand one another
00:21demonstrated social maturity and a shared responsibility to preserve harmony.
00:26From an Islamic perspective, he said such efforts were consistent with the fundamental principle of human relations
00:33to know one another, live together peacefully and cooperate in doing good.
00:38He told FMT that the Quran emphasizes that humans are made into nations and tribes
00:43so that they may know one another, not to be hostile towards each other.
00:48He added that diversity is not a threat, but an opportunity to build understanding and tolerance.
00:55He was commenting on the special session yesterday organized between the Malaysian Muslim Lawyers Association
01:01and Hindu Temples, as well as the Malaysian Hindu Religious Associations,
01:06which aimed to ease tensions sparked by recent statements and actions
01:10that had triggered heated debates on social media.
