00:00What are we trying to do?
00:02I'm just starting off in this space, kind of looking at my surroundings.
00:07So this game has a lot of different elements.
00:10There's lots of platforming, there's lots of puzzle elements.
00:13There's also action as well.
00:15So you should always be kind of aware of your surroundings.
00:19There'll be very subtle clues in what you're trying to do next to get on to the next bit.
00:25And also, Trico will help you as well, like giving you hints.
00:30Or he'll just walk off on his own.
00:32So how has he got to where he is?
00:34He's kind of pushed this gate.
00:35This gate, he can push through.
00:37It's like a giant cat plant.
00:38Yeah, but I can just kind of get through the gap.
00:45So now I'm stuck in this room and I have to figure out how to move on to the next
00:51area.
00:52But you're just a small kid and you can't really do much on your own.
00:56But I'm at the stage of the game where we're really good buddies now.
01:01So he'll let me climb on him.
01:05And then he's playing with that chain.
01:07So I don't know if you can see, but as he kind of tugs on the chain, you can see
01:12this gate moving.
01:13So I know my objective is to get him to pull the chain all the way so I can get
01:20through.
01:23So what I really liked about my short amount of time that I had with the game at E3 was
01:27about that kind of the dynamic between...
01:30What are you doing there?
01:31So I can give him commands.
01:34So I can point at a direction.
01:36I'm trying to get him to look up onto that platform because I want to get up there.
01:40But I'll need Trico's help.
01:42So I'm kind of telling him to jump, trying to point at where he should be jumping.
01:47So he's looking at it now.
01:52But he operates on his own AI.
01:55Right.
01:55So nothing here is scripted or anything like this.
02:00So sometimes he will listen to what you tell him.
02:02Sometimes he doesn't.
02:03He's like a real animal.
02:05And when he's getting ready to jump like that, you need to make sure you're holding on.

02:10Make sure you're not going to kind of get left behind.

02:14And what I was going to say was just about how he's obviously this incredibly powerful creature.
02:20But there's like a real playfulness to how he kind of interacts with the environment and like his relationship with

02:28So a lot of people kind of, if they're dog lovers, they look at Trico like a dog.
02:36If they're cat lovers, then...

02:50So here's some of the platforming examples.

03:33Yeah, so you find like weird barrels that Trico like to eat.
03:37So it's got kind of like the same blue, glowy substance inside that he likes.
03:42It does look tasty.
03:46Well, I'm not going to, you know, say what it is for us.
03:51Right now that's open for interpretation.

04:03So are you going to feed him with that?
04:05Or are you going to tempt him in somewhere?
04:07So I'm going to try and grab that pot and attach it to the other chain in the other room.

04:17And it's easy for me now because I know what to do.
04:22But, you know, when you play this for the first time, you know, you've got to really look around and
04:26figure out, you know, what to do.
04:29Do you know, the first, it reminded me so much of the first time that I played Ico on PS2.
04:34And it reminded me that I had forgotten, but the puzzles on there were sometimes incredibly hard.
04:40Like, you just, lateral bits of thinking and puzzling, you know, you just have to, just a bit of sideways
04:45thought that you, and it's really similar in this, you know, not too many hints going on.
04:49You really have to, like, be aware of what it's about.
04:52Well, nowadays it's really easy to watch someone else do it, like, when the game is out and on YouTube
04:58and stuff.

05:00I would advise you not to do that because, you know, you really get that sense of achievement when you
05:05figure something out.
05:12So, yeah, man, like, the animations on the boy when he's carrying things, or even just when he's, like, stamping
05:18on the creature's back.
05:20There's something, he's, like, captured something, like, I've got kids, and it just captures something about when they're, just, you
05:25know, just before they go into adolescence, you know, just when they're, like, they're really childlike about their movements.
05:30It's super cute.
05:31I really like it.
05:35So, Ueda San, who's the game director, he's a, he was originally an animator.

05:42So, there's a lot of attention to detail to all the animation, the boy and the trick are both.
05:52So, where was that chain?
