00:00One Piece Season 2 opens with the crew debating their next move before entering the Grand Line.
00:05Nami pushes for a resupply stop, Sanji is immediately on board, and Zoro doesn't object
00:10because he is down to his last sword after two were destroyed in previous fights.
00:14Usopp is the lone dissenter, worried that a detour only increases the risk of running into trouble
00:18since Luffy has a bounty on his head. The debate ends the moment they mention the town is Logetown,
00:24which is the very place where Goldie Roger was executed, and Luffy is instantly sold.
00:28The plan is to lay low while everybody does what they need to do, but we know that there is
00:33no
00:33laying low for Luffy. After spending some time admiring the local fish with his paired partner
00:38Sanji, Luffy wanders off to find the execution square where Roger died. He is intercepted by a
00:43small-time thief who had already tried and failed to pickpocket Nami earlier. The funny thing is that
00:49when Nami caught him, she schooled him on how to find a better target by suggesting he find someone
00:53gullible, trick them into an isolated area, and then steal from them, which are the same tactics
00:58he now uses on Luffy. It almost works, except the isolated area he leads Luffy to is the execution
01:04square, and Buggy and Alvida are already waiting. Alvida is not the woman she was because she has
01:09eaten the slip-slip fruit, which causes any physical attack to slide harmlessly off her body.
01:14Together, she and Buggy capture Luffy and prepare to execute him on the same platform where the pirate
01:19king died, with Buggy playing the role of gleeful prosecutor. While this unfolds, Zoro is sword
01:24shopping. The shopkeeper lowballs him on Wado Ichimonji, Kuina's sword, claiming it is worth
01:29very little. That lie gets exposed when Toshigi, a sword enthusiast, shows up gushing about how the
01:34sword is worth millions. Zoro refuses to sell it, and when he finds a new sword he likes, the shopkeeper
01:40warns him it is cursed. Zoro's response is to toss the sword into the air above his own head, reasoning
01:45that if it is cursed it will kill him. It doesn't. Impressed by the sheer audacity, the shopkeeper
01:50gifts him a third blade from his own family collection, completing Zoro's three-sword set.
01:55The crew eventually regroups and quickly realizes Luffy is missing and captured. As Buggy prepares
02:00to swing the blade, Luffy laughs in the face of death, and the onlookers notice a haunting
02:04resemblance to the day Roger was executed. In a flashback we learn that Roger told the vice-admiral
02:09he had a son just before his execution. Now I'm thinking that son is Luffy, but I don't think
02:14he's that age. Eventually, a sudden impossible bolt of lightning strikes the platform, frying Buggy,
02:19and freeing Luffy. The crew manages to neutralize Alveda using a creative pepper bomb concoction
02:25from Usopp's arsenal, but their escape is cut short by Captain Smoker, a powerful marine who can
02:30literally turn into smoke to dodge physical attacks. Just as Smoker prepares to finish Luffy,
02:35a mysterious man in a green cloak appears and clears the path for them to escape. Whoever he is,
02:40he seems genuinely curious about what Luffy will become. As the team gets to the entrance of the
02:45Grand Line, which means that their trouble has only just begun, we see a group of mysterious women
02:50attack a marine base looking for one of their own that Zoro killed. Among them is Niko Robin,
02:55who dispatches the marines using the flower flower fruit, which allows her to sprout extra limbs from
03:00any surface, including other people's bodies. After discovering that Zoro is in Logetown, Niko visits
03:05Tashigi, telling her she is wasting her potential, and handing her a card as an open invitation to do
03:10more. Smoker has also learned Luffy is going to the Grand Line, and he is going to hunt them down,
03:15because he has no intention of letting another Roger rise from Roger's own shadow.
03:19The mysterious figure who cleared Luffy's path out of Logetown is Dragon, the most wanted man in the
03:24world, and the leader of a revolutionary army waging open war against the world government.
03:28The Vice Admiral basically tells Smoker that chasing Luffy is pointless, since a rookie pirate like him
03:33will most likely die in the Grand Line anyway. Instead, Smoker is ordered to focus on a far more
03:38serious threat, a dangerous group of assassins known as Baroque Works, who have been attacking
03:43marine outposts. The Vice Admiral mentions that one of their agents recently destroyed a marine post,
03:48and that the group operates entirely under codenames. No one even knows the identity of their leader,
03:53a mysterious figure known only as Mr. Zero, and that is the name Smoker needs to find.
03:58Toshigi overhears this conversation, and with encouragement from Kobe, she refuses to stay
04:03behind when Smoker leaves. Determined to pursue her dream of reclaiming legendary swords from
04:08unworthy pirates, she decides to follow him. The Straw Hats are nearly at the Grand Line,
04:13but nearly isn't there. Between them and open water sits the Red Line, a colossal mountain range that
04:19rises straight out of the ocean with a single narrow channel cutting through it. The path is steep and
04:24dangerous, and the crew worries about navigating it, but Nami confidently guides the ship through the
04:29passage. They nearly make it through safely, but as the Going Mary begins its descent down the other
04:34side, a massive whale suddenly appears and swallows the ship whole. Luffy managed to escape the ship
04:39before his crew was swallowed up, and he wakes up on a nearby lighthouse island. The lighthouse is manned
04:45by a grumpy old keeper named Crocus, who has no interest in Luffy's problem. Luffy is persistent
04:50enough to wear him down, and eventually, Crocus talks. The whale has a name, Laboon, and a history.
04:56Years ago, a pirate crew sailing the Grand Line befriended him. When they reached the entrance,
05:02they left him in Crocus's care, promising they would come back once they had completed their journey.
05:06They never did. Laboon has been slamming his enormous head into the Red Line ever since,
05:11convinced his crew is waiting on the other side. Crocus tranquilizes him periodically to stop him from
05:16hurting himself, but the whale is slowly becoming resistant to the drug. Inside Laboon's stomach,
05:22the Straw Hats are trying to figure out how to escape. The Going Mary's rudder is damaged, and
05:26without it, they cannot steer out even if they find an exit. While searching, they discover another ship
05:31trapped inside the whale. The crew initially assumes the sailors are dead, but one of them suddenly wakes
05:37up. Sanji and Usopp quickly overpower the man, and take the part they need from the ship. However,
05:42the man reveals that he is not alone. Not long after, Nami is ambushed when her compass is stolen
05:47by a woman named Miss Wednesday, the partner the man on the ship was talking about. But Sanji and Usopp
05:52already suspected another partner was nearby, so they quickly capture her and tie both of them up.
05:57Zoro recognizes them as Baroque assassins, as he already killed one of them a while back when they
06:01tried to recruit him. Miss Wednesday points out that the Straw Hats will never survive the Grand
06:06Line without a log pose, which is a special compass that adjusts to the unpredictable magnetic fields of
06:11Grand Line, and guides ships from island to island. The escape plan is Zoro's, and it is what it is.
06:16Use a long, improvised weapon to strike a pressure point in the whale's stomach, and trigger a gag
06:21reflex. It would have been fine. Except Laboon wakes up mid-plan, and starts his usual routine
06:26of smashing his head into the red line. Everything inside him starts shifting violently. Usopp,
06:32mid-repair on the ship, nearly goes over the edge into the stomach acid below. Mr. Nine and Miss
06:37Wednesday, for all their posturing as enemies, help pull him back. Luffy already tried to hit
06:41the whale, but he ended up hurting himself. Eventually he strikes Laboon in the eye, forcing
06:46the whale to go back to sleep. Instead of continuing to fight, Luffy suddenly begins singing the song
06:52Laboon's old pirate crew used to sing, begging the whale to let his friends go. Moved by this,
06:57Laboon finally releases the ship. Before leaving, Luffy paints the straw hat pirate symbol on Laboon,
07:02and promises that his crew will return for him someday, refusing to abandon him like the previous
07:07pirates did. Crocus then gives Nami his log pose, explaining that he no longer needs it.
07:12Even though Nami doubts herself at first, Crocus reminds her that she has already guided the crew
07:16this far on her own, and clearly has the talent to navigate the grand line. As the straw hats finally
07:21set sail deeper into the grand line, Crocus watches them leave, and reflects on the past. It is revealed
07:27that he was once a friend of Goldie Roger, and as he looks at an old photo of Roger,
07:31he wonders if Luffy might become Roger's true successor. The crew arrives at the first island
07:36in the grand line, Whiskey Peak. But surprisingly, instead of being treated with hostility,
07:41the locals are welcoming to them. The logic, delivered warmly by the mayor Igaram, is simple
07:46enough. Pirates come through here whether they like it or not, so it is smarter to welcome them
07:51and send them on their way peacefully. The straw hats, never ones to turn down a celebration,
07:56don't push back too hard on that reasoning. Before the straw hats even reach the island though,
08:01Ms. Wednesday and Mr. Nine already slipped off the going merry and into the sea. Something about
08:06Ms. Wednesday made Luffy trust her enough to set her free earlier. The crew spreads out. Luffy eats
08:11until he can barely move. Sanji and Usopp get pulled into a drinking campaign with the locals,
08:17eventually led away by beautiful women, promising them something even better to drink.
08:21Nami sits down to a card game with a reverend sister and strips her clean. Then, when the townspeople
08:26casually steer her away from the outskirts of town, she does exactly what Nami always does.
08:31When someone tells her not to go somewhere, she goes. That is when Nami discovers the truth.
08:35Whiskey Peak is a baroque works operation, and every single resident is an agent. Their entire
08:40function is to welcome pirates off the Grand Line, lower their defenses, kill them, and then collect
08:45their bounties. They have been doing it long enough to have it down to a system. By the time Nami
08:50puts
08:51it together, the trap has already sprung on Zoro. The agents come for him, assuming he is drunk.
08:56He isn't. He clears them out quickly, but that is just the opening. There are a hundred baroque
09:01works agents on this island, and they all come for him at once. What follows is less a fight,
09:06and more a controlled demolition. Zoro works through them with the hallucination of Mihawk,
09:11the greatest swordsman in the world, pushing him to improve himself if he wants to eventually defeat him.
09:15Luffy eventually realizes something is wrong when Igarim, also known as Mr. Eight,
09:20suddenly ambushes him alongside Miss Wednesday. Igarim shows a strange level of affection toward
09:25Wednesday, even calling her princess. Before Luffy can process that, Miss Wednesday starts her vertigo
09:30dance, an enchanting and disorienting ability, which drops Luffy unconscious before he can do anything
09:35about it. When he wakes up, the situation has shifted. Two more baroque works agents have arrived
09:40on the island, and they didn't come for Luffy, they came for Miss Wednesday. Miss Wednesday is
09:45actually Princess Nefertari Vivi of the Kingdom of Alabasta, and she and Igarim, formerly captain
09:50of the Royal Guard, infiltrated baroque works together to find the identity of Mr. Zero,
09:55the shadowy leader steering the organization's campaign of deliberate disarray across her kingdom.
10:00Baroque works has been ceding civil unrest in Alabasta for long enough that the country is now on the edge
10:05of open war, and Vivi needed a name to stop it. Baroque works figured out what she was doing.
10:10Mr. Five and Miss Valentine are the response.
10:12Mr. Five's power is exactly as undignified as it sounds. He can turn any bodily secretion into an
10:18explosive, which in practice means his boogers function as high-yield bombs. Miss Valentine can
10:23manipulate her own body weight at will, making herself light enough to float or heavy enough to
10:27crush. Realizing there is no other way out, Igarim asks Luffy to protect the princess before using the
10:33weapons built into his hair to lay down enough covering fire to let Vivi and Luffy's crew get clear.
10:38Mr. Five eventually destroys Igarim with an explosive attack. Afterward, they try to force
10:43Mr. Nine to reveal where the Straw Hats went. Even after learning that Vivi betrayed the organization,
10:48Mr. Nine refuses to give her up, and they kill him as well. As the Straw Hats continue their journey,
10:54Miss Wednesday reveals her name is Princess Nefertari Vivi, of the Kingdom of Alabasta,
10:58and she also fills them in on why she decided to infiltrate Baroque works. Just as she finishes
11:03her speech, their ship is suddenly surrounded by falling pink petals and Nico Robin appears,
11:08Nico Robin is revealed to be second in command of the Baroque works organization,
11:12but for some reason, she seems interested in helping Luffy's crew. She warns them that every
11:16Baroque works agent will soon be coming after them because they are protecting the princess.
11:21To help them escape, she gives them an eternal pose, which is a special compass permanently set
11:25to a single island that would allow them to skip the dangerous routes of the Grand Line and hide
11:30somewhere remote. But Luffy has no interest in taking the easy route. If they skip the journey,
11:35how are they supposed to explore the Grand Line and chase the treasure they came here for?
11:39Without hesitation, Luffy destroys the eternal pose, telling Robin that nobody tells his ship where to
11:45go. After she leaves, Vivi, already carrying the guilt of everything her presence is costing this
11:49crew, raises the idea of leaving, but Luffy immediately refuses, promising to help get her home
11:55safely. The crew continues sailing, and soon arrives at the island called Little Garden. At first,
12:00they don't understand the name because the island is huge, filled with massive plants and prehistoric
12:05creatures like dinosaurs, almost like something out of a jungle adventure. Luffy's response upon
12:10arrival is to shout a greeting at the top of his lungs into the trees, but the only response they
12:14hear is the roar of a giant creature. Zoro and Sanji immediately decide to hunt the creature for dinner,
12:20and even though they work together to bring the creature down, they start arguing about who actually
12:24delivered the killing blow, Zoro's sword or Sanji's kick. While wandering through the forest afterward,
12:29Zoro suddenly hears a strange giggling sound. A mysterious symbol is painted on him, his eyes turn
12:35yellow, and he begins laughing uncontrollably before continuously cutting fruits with his sword
12:39instead of returning to the group. Usopp, being a scaredy cat, refuses to leave the ship. Nami eventually
12:45wears him down enough that he agrees, at which point an enormous hand wraps around the hull and a giant
12:50face appears asking for rum. This is Brogi, the red ogre, and after accepting a drink, he carries both of
12:56them back to his camp, announcing they are having lunch. At first, Nami and Usopp panic, thinking
13:01he means he plans to eat them, but they quickly realize he actually meant sharing a meal together,
13:05and Usopp entertains him with his overly exaggerated pirate adventure. Luffy and Vivi also explore the
13:11island together, trading stories about their lives, and at one point end up riding a dinosaur. Eventually,
13:16they follow the smell of something roasting, until they find an enormous spit over an enormous fire with
13:21an enormous meal turning on it. As Luffy reaches for it, another giant materializes. This is Dory,
13:27the blue ogre, and like Brogi he turns out to be entirely welcoming to the little people who've
13:31wandered into his territory. The two giants, it turns out, have a history that spans a century.
13:36Dory and Brogi were once captains of the giant warrior pirates, both from the proud warrior nation
13:41of Elboff. A dispute arose between them, a matter of honor, the specifics of which have long since blurred,
13:47and the only acceptable resolution was to fight it out. They came to Little Garden, agreed to duel
13:52until one of them was clearly the victor, and have been doing exactly that for a hundred years.
13:57Every time the volcano erupts, they pause whatever they are doing and resume their duel,
14:01but every time they fight, it is a stalemate. The score has never moved, and neither has either of them.
14:07When the volcano rumbles, both giants excuse themselves warmly, return to their respective sides
14:12of the island, and resume their duel with the straw hats watching from the edges.
14:16They are not the only ones watching, though. Mr. Five and Miss Valentine arrived on the island
14:21sometime before, and they've already tracked down Mr. Three, a theatrical, self-serious Baroque
14:26works agent whose power is the generation and manipulation of candle wax, which he wields with
14:31the gravity of a true artist. He informs Mr. Five and Miss Valentine, with barely concealed disdain,
14:37that Mr. Zero sent him to clean up their failure at Whiskey Peak. If he succeeds alone,
14:41they will most likely be killed, so he offers them a working arrangement. Help him remove the
14:46problem, and he'll recommend Mercy. The problem is the giants. Dory and Brogy have taken a liking
14:51to Luffy's crew, and a direct attack while the giants are alert would be suicidal. The solution
14:56Mr. Three lands on is to dissolve a booger bomb into the giants' rum before they drink,
15:01before their duel. The explosion goes off inside Dory's stomach mid-fight, compromising him. Even when
15:07Usopp realizes what happened and tries to warn him that the fight isn't fair, Dory refuses to stop.
15:12According to the giant warrior code, the duel must continue no matter what. Because he has been
15:18weakened by the poison, Dory is defeated during the duel. That is the beginning of problems for
15:23Luffy's crew. First, Nami, who has been ambushed by that creature that draws symbols on people to
15:28flat out her emotions, is grabbed by Mr. Five and Miss Valentine. Then, we realize that the creature is not
15:34really a creature. It is actually Miss Goldenweak, another Baroque works agent who uses magical paint
15:40symbols to manipulate emotions. She tricks Luffy as well, acting like she is in danger, before drawing
15:45a symbol on him just as Vivi arrives to warn him about the trap, and Brogy, who is supposed to
15:49help
15:50them, is ambushed by Mr. Three, who encases him in wax. The fate of the crew lies solely on Usopp
15:55and
15:55Sanji now, but Sanji doesn't even have any idea what is going on. Sanji saw Zoro laughing maniacally,
16:01which I thought would make him realize something is going on, but he doesn't find it strange at all.
16:05Vivi quickly realizes that Zoro and Nami are trapped in a state of delusion,
16:09because Zoro keeps laughing through their capture while Nami remains strangely chill about the
16:13situation. Fortunately, Vivi spots the symbol controlling them and cleans it up, which brings
16:18Nami back to her senses. They are unable to do the same for Zoro because he insists he is ticklish
16:23and squirms away, leaving him trapped in his euphoric daze. Luffy's symbol is different,
16:28a blue one that overwhelms him with deep sadness. Usopp, watching this unfold around him,
16:32knows that saving the team falls on his shoulders, though he tries to delegate the work to Sanji.
16:37He fears that going after the assassins alone is a death sentence, but is unable to find the cook.
16:42He heads to Luffy to try and talk him out of his emotional state,
16:46but eventually has to run away when Miss Golden Week arrives.
16:48Mr. Three has been busy constructing an enormous wax structure,
16:52shaped like a tiered cake, complete with candle columns rising from the top.
16:56His plan is to encase Zoro, Vivi, and Nami in wax around the candles,
16:59light them, and let the slow burn consume his victims, preserving them like figures on a
17:04centerpiece. He has already begun when Sanji stumbles across the wax structure where the
17:09trio was initially held. Arriving too late, he pieces together what is happening just as a call
17:14comes through from Mr. Zero himself, checking in on Mr. Three's progress. Thinking quickly,
17:19Sanji impersonates Mr. Three, assuring Mr. Zero that everything is under control,
17:23and the straw hats have been dealt with. Mr. Zero is not entirely satisfied,
17:26so he dispatches the unluckies, Mr. Thirteen and Miss Friday, a pair of animal-like agents who
17:32serve as his personal enforcers and messengers, to verify the claim on the ground. Sanji dispatches
17:38them, although they nearly take him out in the process, and secures an eternal pose to Alabasta.
17:42While wandering the island, Usopp discovers that Dory is not fully dead. He fills the giant in on
17:48everything that has been happening, and though Dory is in no condition to fight, he gives Usopp the
17:52encouragement he needs by telling him that he is the only one who can save their friends.
17:56This gives Usopp the courage to confront Luffy and Miss Goldenweak. Miss Goldenweak is, at her core,
18:01a sadist, someone who treats people as toys to be played with. Luffy is her newest subject. She
18:07experiments with him through different colors, cycling through effects until she settles on black,
18:11a color associated with despair and the surrender of one's dreams. Knowing that Luffy's dream is to be
18:17king of the pirates, she commands him to walk into the ocean and drown because, in her view,
18:21he will never get there. Luffy, helpless against the compulsion, obeys. Usopp arrives just in time,
18:28dragging him out of the water before he can go under. The ocean washes the color from Luffy's face,
18:33and breaks Miss Goldenweak's hold on him. In the scramble, Usopp accidentally knocks her color palette
18:38onto her face, sending her spiraling through a rapid, involuntary chain of emotions. With Luffy back to
18:43himself, he and Usopp charge toward the wax cake to free Nami, Vivi, and Zoro. The moment they arrive,
18:50Mr. Three bolts. He is a strategist, not a brawler. Luffy goes after him while Usopp faces Miss
18:56Valentine and her partner. Usopp cleverly uses Miss Valentine's weight-shifting powers against her.
19:01He lures Miss Valentine into using her full-weight attack on him, while he is positioned on the wax
19:06structure. Each massive strike chips and splits the wax from the base upward, until the structure
19:11fractures all the way to the top, freeing Nami, Vivi, and Zoro from the hardened shell that had
19:15fully consumed them. With the team reunited, the real fight begins. Vivi and Nami take on Miss
19:21Valentine, while the boys handle the rest. Mr. Three proves that his cowardice has not stopped him from
19:26being creative. He has produced multiple wax decoys of himself to confuse Luffy. Luffy eventually corners
19:32the real one, and Mr. Three encases Luffy's hand in wax. Undeterred, Luffy turns it into a weapon,
19:38using his wax-coated fist, as dense and hard as Mr. Three's own material, to batter him into
19:43unconsciousness. Zoro and Usopp finish off their opponent, and Vivi and Nami knock Miss Valentine
19:48out cold. With the Baroque works agents down, Luffy frees Brogy. The two giants, who have spent years
19:55locked in their pointless duel with no resolution, take this moment to reflect. No winner has ever emerged,
20:01and perhaps that has always been the point. They agree to set the fight aside and simply be friends.
20:06The Straw Hats set sail with the eternal pose Sanji recovered. Destination, Alabasta. Vivi floats
20:12the idea of catching another ship once they reach open sea, not wanting to be a burden,
20:17but Luffy insists they are friends now, and will see her home personally. Before they leave,
20:21the giants offer the crew one parting instruction, keep heading straight no matter what. Only Usopp really
20:27absorbs it. The others do not, until a colossal goldfish surfaces and blocks their entire path.
20:33Right on cue, Dory and Brogy wade into the sea and strike the water with enough force to send
20:38a wave slicing clean through the fish, clearing the way. The crew celebrates. Zoro and Sanji resume
20:44their running argument as if nothing happened, and life on the going merry returns to normal,
20:48until Nami, who has been feeling lightheaded for a while, steps out for air, and collapses on the deck.
20:53Nami has been in and out of consciousness for four days. Whatever she contracted in Little Garden
20:58is spreading across her body, and Alabasta is still a long way off. Vivi suggests they divert
21:03to the nearest island, Drum Island, a kingdom once celebrated across the seas for the quality of its
21:08doctors. There is a complication. Vivi is persona non grata there, owing to long-standing political
21:14tensions between Drum Island and Alabasta, which means she will need to keep her identity hidden for
21:19the entire stay. Their arrival does not go smoothly. The people at the outpost assume they are hostile and
21:25open fire. Luffy's instinct is to hit back, but Vivi holds him off. Instead, the crew appeals to them
21:30that they are not here to cause trouble. They only need a doctor. The local commander, Dalton,
21:35reads the situation clearly enough and allows them through. But the Drum Island that Vivi remembers has
21:41changed. The kingdom was attacked by Blackbeards, and when they came, King Wapol and his men did not
21:46protect the town. They ran. The townspeople have been fending for themselves ever since. Praying Blackbeards
21:52does not return. We see Wapol himself in another corner of the story, in conversation with Ms. All
21:58Sunday, also known as Nico Robin, who flatters and placates him as he fumes about not being taken
22:03seriously by Mr. Zero. To keep him in line, she gifts him a devil fruit, something he has always
22:08wanted. Wapol eats it without asking what it does, grateful and oblivious. The fruit in question is the
22:14Munch Munch fruit, which will soon make itself very apparent. Nami cannot get the help she needs
22:19because Wapol hoarded all the doctors for himself, leaving only one doctor remaining. A woman who
22:24lives at the top of the island's mountain, isolated enough that the locals have taken to calling her
22:28a witch. Getting to her is not straightforward. The mountain route is treacherous, and the conditions
22:33that night make it impassable until morning, and morning may be too late for Nami. Luffy decides to
22:38carry Nami up the mountain himself. Sanji goes with him. Zoro, Usopp, and Vivi, who took a wound when they
22:44first arrived at the gate, stay behind along with the villagers in case Blackbeard's returns.
22:48The climb is brutal, given the very cold weather. Near the summit, both Luffy and Sanji lose their
22:54footing and fall, but Luffy manages to grab Sanji with his extended arm and throw him the rest of
22:58the way up to the castle at the top, then finds a way to haul himself up before collapsing. The
23:02doctor,
23:03Kureha, takes them in. Nami, it turns out, was bitten by a kestia, a parasitic tick long thought to be
23:09extinct. The antibiotics Kureha administers work quickly, and Nami recovers fully. Sanji's broken
23:15rib is treated. Luffy wakes up screaming. He was submerged in scalding water and is convinced the
23:21doctor is trying to cook them. She explains that he had hypothermia, and the hot water was the
23:26treatment. Then there is Chopper, a reindeer who ate the human-human fruit, giving him the ability to
23:31speak, think, and shift between small, human-sized, and large forms. Luffy and Sanji are immediately
23:37fascinated and make no effort to hide it. Chopper refuses to speak in front of them until they get
23:43too close to a box containing a particular flag, at which point he chases them off furiously.
23:48Kureha explains the story behind the flag. Chopper was cast out by the reindeer herd that raised him
23:53because his blue nose marked him as different and unwanted by his own kind. He was also feared
23:58by humans, who saw his ability to change shape as monstrous and hunted him. Around the same time that
24:03Waple was rounding up every doctor on the island, threatening execution for those who refused.
24:08A deeply eccentric physician named Dr. Hiraluk found Chopper half-frozen and alone. To show Chopper
24:14he was harmless, Hiraluk stripped down to almost nothing in the snow, making himself vulnerable.
24:19He took Chopper in, explained that his unusual abilities were the result of accidentally eating
24:23a devil fruit, and let the reindeer become part of his life. Hiraluk had a fixation. He was trying to
24:29develop a medicine that would cure his kingdom, not a physical illness but the kind of sickness that
24:33comes from despair and division. His experiments failed repeatedly, but he kept going. The two of
24:39them grew close. Then one day, without warning, Hiraluk told Chopper to leave, that since he was
24:44healed, there was no reason for him to stay. Chopper did not understand why, until Dr. Kureha arrived,
24:49and he overheard the truth. Hiraluk was dying from an incurable illness. There was nothing to be done.
24:54Desperate to help, Chopper went into the forest alone and found a mushroom he believed could cure
24:59Hiraluk. He brought it back. Hiraluk brewed it and drank it immediately, announced he was feeling
25:05better, and declared that he was heading to the castle to help the imprisoned doctors he
25:09had heard were falling ill. When Chopper later showed Kureha the mushroom, she told him it was
25:13poisonous. Hiraluk knew exactly what it was, and drank it anyway. He was going to die regardless,
25:19and he chose to go out on his own terms as a doctor trying to do something good,
25:22not wanting Chopper to carry the guilt. Chopper ran after him crying, but Hiraluk was already
25:27at the castle gate. Inside, he found no sick doctors, it had been a trap to lure him out
25:32for execution. Wapol's guards moved on him immediately. He set off a small explosive
25:37charge that took out a handful of them, but was not enough to turn the tide. Before he died,
25:42he told Dalton that his son would be coming, that the boy looked like a monster, but Dalton should not
25:47harm him. Dalton was waiting at the gate when Chopper arrived and turned him away gently,
25:51telling him to live the life his father would have wanted for him. When Dalton returned to Wapol
25:56empty-handed, having disobeyed a direct order to kill the monster, Dalton turned on the king.
26:00He inherited allegiance from his father, and seeing how Wapol destroyed the kingdom,
26:05Dalton could no longer serve him. The king instructed his men to attack him,
26:09but since Dalton is alive in the present, that means he managed to slip away. In the present,
26:14Zoro and Dalton are keeping watch at the village gate when smoke rises from the nearby tree line.
26:19Dalton goes to investigate and is ambushed by Wapol's right-hand man. The king has returned,
26:24and this time, with his new devil fruit power in hand. Vivi spots Miss Allsunday moving through the
26:30village, gloating that Wapol will level everything in his path. They need to get word to Luffy and the
26:35others at the top of the mountain immediately. Usopp, drawing on his fondness for ridiculous gadgets,
26:40has developed a climbing arrow, capable of carrying the princess to the top without much hassle,
26:44while those on the ground work to protect the villagers and prepare to hold the line.
26:48The Munch Munch fruit has made Wapol a uniquely revolting threat, because he can consume anything,
26:53people included, and reconstitute them in whatever form he chooses. He has eaten members of his own
26:59guard, and vomited them back out as grotesque hybrids, nearly impossible to kill in any conventional
27:04sense. His forces hit the mountain. The fight for the castle at the summit falls to Luffy, Sanji,
27:09Chopper, and Vivi, who has her own history with this king. When she was young, Wapol pushed her
27:14to the ground in front of witnesses. She was calmed through it then, to avoid a diplomatic incident,
27:19but she has no such restraint now. The fight is messy and creative. One of Wapol's men has hair that
27:26transforms into adhesive gum, trapping Sanji's leg to the ground and at one point fusing Sanji and
27:31Chopper together entirely, forcing them to coordinate as a single unit to do anything useful. Eventually,
27:36Luffy and Sanji work together on a combined attack that sends Wapol flying straight through the castle
27:41wall. The moment he falls, the monstrous army below, sustained by his devil fruit power, reverts to
27:47normal human soldiers who promptly surrender. Dr. Kureha's role in the battle is worth noting.
27:52When the fighting started she wanted no part of it, she owed these people nothing. Chopper pleaded with
27:57her, and she refused, until she saw Dalton dragging himself toward the front with three arrows lodged in
28:02his chest, still moving forward, because he believed that if Wapol was not stopped permanently,
28:06the island would never be free of fear. That changed something in her, and she entered the fight.
28:11After the battle the Straw Hats invite Chopper to join the crew. He resists at first. He is a reindeer,
28:17people think he is a monster, and talking reindeers do not just sail off on pirate ships.
28:21Then Luffy simply screams at him to come, and that is apparently all it takes for Chopper to agree.
28:26He tells Kureha he is leaving, and she is furious, after everything she did for him,
28:31but there is no deterring him. However, when Chopper realizes he left his medical supplies behind,
28:36Nami produces a bag that Kureha packed herself ahead of his departure. As the Going Mary pulls
28:41away from the island, a cannon fires from the castle above. The payload disperses through the snowfall,
28:46and the sky above Drum Island turns pink, cherry blossom petals, drifting down through the winter air.
28:51It is Hiraluk's cure, finally completed by Kureha after his death. Not a medicine for a disease,
28:57but a medicine for a broken spirit. For a kingdom that had forgotten how to feel warmth. Chopper
29:02watches it from the deck of the ship and begins to cry, as his father's dream arrives, long after he
29:07is gone, and all the better for it. The crew celebrates. Zoro and Sanji resume their eternal
29:13argument. Vivi watches them and feels the weight of what comes next. Once they reach Alabasta,
29:18their journey together will end, but Luffy corrects her that they are not just dropping her off.
29:23They are going to help her save her kingdom first. Once that is done, they will move on.
29:28Moved by that, Vivi finally tells them the truth. She and Igaram uncovered the identity of Mr. Zero
29:33during their time undercover in Baroque works. His name is Sir Crocodile, one of the Seven Warlords of
29:38the Sea, a figure in the same tier as Mihawk. He and Miss Allsunday appear to operate with somewhat
29:43different personal goals, but their plans align enough that she moves pieces for him across the board.
29:47Crocodile's endgame is something called Operation Utopia, and it is unfolding in Alabasta. Every
29:53Baroque works agent has been redirected there. The funding reportedly came through Wapol,
29:58who is now dead. The ultimate objective, behind all of it, is the One Piece. Across the sea,
30:04Captain Smoker and Toshigi arrive at the Marine Communications outpost in Logetown to find the
30:09staff inside have been killed. Smoker's first instinct is to blame the straw hats, but the evidence
30:14quickly points elsewhere. This is the work of Baroque works. They are ambushed. Smoker and
30:19Toshigi both face off against Mr. 13, and they both overcome him, though not easily. They keep him
30:25alive for interrogation, but he says nothing useful. They turn instead to the Denden Mushi,
30:30the communication snail, which recorded conversations before it was damaged. From it, they recover the
30:36exchange between Mr. Zero and Sanji, the call where Sanji impersonated Mr. Three. Smoker processes what
30:42this means. Someone in the Marines knew that call was being recorded at this outpost and sent Baroque
30:47works to erase it. There is an informant inside the Marines working for Sir Crocodile. He cannot prove
30:53who yet, but he can confirm from the recording a destination. Baroque works is converging on Alabasta,
30:58and Smoker and Toshigi are heading there.
