00:00We all thought it was over, when Harrison shot Dexter in New Blood.
00:03They even tried to rewind the clock with Original Sin.
00:06But nah, you can't keep a good killer down.
00:08Or, you know, an incredibly complicated, slightly sociopathic anti-hero.
00:13Because Dexter Morgan isn't just alive, he's a dadasita who's found his way to New York City to help his son,
00:18while still feeding those urges, of course.
00:20And now, Dexter Resurrection has us asking,
00:23is this new chapter a case of like father-like son, or something else entirely?
00:27I got thoughts, questions, and a whole lot of commentary.
00:31Let's get into it.
00:32So it's been 10 weeks since Harrison pulled the trigger, and left his father bleeding out in the snow.
00:38Somehow, Dexter's still alive, but not conscious.
00:41Not really.
00:42He's trapped in a limbo of regret, working his way through a twisted dreamscape,
00:46crowded with ghosts he can't quite shake.
00:48The first to appear is Arthur Mitchell, the infamous Trinity Killer,
00:51who wastes no time digging into Dexter's legacy.
00:53Killing Harrison's mother, he says, might have been what cracked the boy open,
00:57what turned him into his father's mirror.
00:59As for Dexter getting shot, Arthur frames it as karmic balance.
01:03Sometimes we have to go through hell to achieve resurrection, he says.
01:06Meaning?
01:07You brought this on yourself, but your story's not over yet.
01:10That kicks off a grim procession.
01:12Miguel Prado shows up next.
01:14All righteousness and ruin.
01:15Claiming Dexter's real mistake was trying to play house.
01:18Pretending he could live a normal life when death was always the default.
01:20Then Harry appears, but his usual calm guidance feels shakier now.
01:25Dexter wonders if things would have been better had Harry never tried to save him.
01:28And just as the guilt starts to close in,
01:31Sergeant Doakes crashes in with that unforgettable line.
01:33Surprise, mother.
01:34He doesn't let Dexter off the hook, but he does toss him a lifeline,
01:38saying there's a sliver of good left in him.
01:40Maybe enough to fight for his son.
01:41That's the push that jolts him awake.
01:43He learns that Harrison vanished without a trace.
01:46No goodbye.
01:47No trail.
01:48Just gone.
01:49Across the city, Harrison's doing his best impersonation of someone who has it all together.
01:54Working the front desk at a sleek New York hotel,
01:56smiling through shifts, trading jokes with guests.
01:59On the surface, he's well-liked.
02:01Underneath, he's still unraveling.
02:03Later, he meets a guest named Shauna, who's lost on her way to a conference.
02:07She jokes about how easy it is to reinvent yourself in New York.
02:10He nods, but you can see it in his face.
02:12He's already tried, and it's not working.
02:14That night, he sees Shauna again, barely standing, escorted by a man claiming to be her husband.
02:20Something's off.
02:21Harrison clocks it immediately.
02:23And when he finds out they just met at the bar, that suspicion curdles into dread.
02:27He tells himself to stay out of it, tells himself it's not his problem,
02:30but then he hears Shauna protest from behind the door.
02:33That's all it takes.
02:34He storms in, fights the guy, and when the creep smugly says there'll always be more women,
02:38something in Harrison snaps.
02:40He kills him on the spot.
02:42Blood everywhere.
02:42And the next thing you know, he's doing a Dexter-style cleanup,
02:46using tips he clearly picked up from dear old dad.
02:48But even with all the meticulous cleaning, one drop of blood remains,
02:52stuck to the ceiling tile, waiting to be discovered.
02:55Turns out Dexter's method is starting to show its age,
02:57because sanitation workers later find body parts dumped in bags by the docks.
03:02It's not exactly subtle.
03:04Officers Wallace and Oliva show up, and you can tell right away,
03:07they're not the kind of cops you can fool.
03:08Especially Wallace.
03:09She's got this Elspeth Tashioni kind of quirk, like she sees things most people miss.
03:14Probably a genius or something.
03:15Dexter's got his work cut out for him.
03:17Back in Iron Lake, Dexter is slowly regaining strength.
03:21But emotionally, he's stuck in a loop.
03:23Haunted by everything he's lost.
03:24Unsure why he's even free.
03:26Angela's left town with her daughter.
03:28And with the murders pinned on Kurt Caldwell,
03:30Dexter's name has been cleared.
03:32At least on paper.
03:33But ghosts don't stay buried.
03:35Angel Batista shows up, smile warm but eyes sharp.
03:38He brings up Deb, the Bay Harbor butcher.
03:41The stories that never quite added up.
03:43Angela thought Dexter was the killer.
03:45So did LaGuardia.
03:47Angel doesn't say it outright, but the message is clear.
03:49This resurrection might come with consequences.
03:52Still, he hands over the paperwork.
03:54Dexter is legally alive again.
03:56But Dexter knows exactly why Angel did it.
03:58You can't prosecute a dead man.
04:00Later, a nurse mentions a body found in New York,
04:03cut up into nine pieces.
04:05Clean, efficient, just like Dexter used to do.
04:08And once he hears the victim was a repeat offender
04:10who'd slipped through the cracks,
04:12the picture becomes clear.
04:13Harrison's following the code.
04:15Dexter doesn't hesitate.
04:16He grabs keys off a recently deceased patient
04:19and bolts before Batista can catch up.
04:21Four hours later, he's in the city,
04:23standing in the hotel lobby, watching his son.
04:26Soon after, Wallace and Oliva arrive at the hotel room.
04:29Wallace is already suspicious.
04:31It's too clean.
04:32But just as things begin to heat up,
04:34the show drops something new.
04:35On the other side of town,
04:37a woman we haven't met, played by Uma Thurman,
04:39slips into a strange apartment
04:40with the calm precision of someone who's done this before.
04:43Inside, she finds a stash of driver's licenses,
04:46each one X'd out in blood-red ink.
04:48She adds an envelope to the stash,
04:49tucks it back in the ceiling,
04:51and vanishes into the night.
04:52Who she is?
04:53No idea yet.
04:54But whatever's coming isn't just about Dexter or Harrison anymore.
04:57Dexter arrives at the hotel crime scene and,
05:00honestly, he's kind of impressed.
05:03His son did a decent job cleaning up,
05:05but then homicide officer Claudette Wallace shows up
05:07and immediately starts making terrifyingly smart deductions.
05:11She figures out the killer used oxygen bleach to clean up the place,
05:14which erased all signs of bodily fluids,
05:16and that is way too meticulous for a hotel that houses thousands of random guests.
05:20She clocks the brand new shower curtain
05:22and even deduces the murder weapon was the toilet lid,
05:25since the replacement doesn't match the bowl.
05:27Dexter quickly realizes Wallace is good and Harrison was sloppy,
05:31so he retraces Harrison's steps and finds the blood lodged in the ceiling.
05:35He gets rid of it, but knows he needs to stick close to his son,
05:38because a police investigation is already a sign that Harrison messed up.
05:42As soon as Dexter leaves, he finds out his truck has been towed.
05:45He calls a rideshare called Urkar,
05:47and the driver, Blessing Kamara,
05:49tells him about a serial killer who targets rideshare drivers
05:51and calls himself the Dark Passenger.
05:54Dexter is not thrilled that someone is stealing his trademark.
05:57This guy fits the code,
05:58so Dexter decides to set a trap by becoming a rideshare driver himself.
06:02Blessing even invites him to a party,
06:04where Dexter learns from a survivor and Blessing's friend named Chike
06:07that the killer looks just like him in a hoodie.
06:10Chike shows Dexter dashcam footage of the killer wearing this crazy hoodie
06:13that blinds cameras with infrared lights,
06:15so his face never shows.
06:16But Dexter spots a logo on his backpack
06:18for a cybersecurity company called Bridge Data Network.
06:21To become an Urkar driver himself and get a permit,
06:24Dexter needs a permanent address.
06:26Conveniently, Blessing offers him a vacant basement to rent.
06:29Dexter takes the deal, gets a new car,
06:31and finally has his permit to go hunting.
06:33He investigates the logo and identifies the killer as Ronald Schmidt,
06:37noting the lack of a profile picture on the company website.
06:39As he's waiting outside Ronald's office, the plot thickens.
06:43We learn that Umar Thurman, now revealed as Charlie,
06:46who broke into a house and left an envelope earlier,
06:49is a middleman for a client who hires serial killers.
06:52The envelope she left was an invitation for Ronald,
06:54and now with Dexter after him,
06:55he's about to walk into a much bigger problem than he realizes,
06:58or might just take all of them down altogether.
07:01In a huge moment of character development,
07:03Dexter spots Ronald leaving work and,
07:05get this,
07:06Dexter actually tries to save Ronald's next victim,
07:09instead of just stalking him for the kill.
07:11Like,
07:11is our boy becoming a vigilante?
07:13Ronald freaks out,
07:15bolts for the subway,
07:16and Dexter tries to follow,
07:17until some random guy bumps his chest where he got shot,
07:20and the pain knocks him down.
07:21Ronald gets away,
07:22and the hunt continues.
07:24Wallace is digging into CCTV from the hotel.
07:27She sees Ryan with Shauna,
07:29the girl he drugged.
07:30The cops think Shauna might have killed him in a crime of passion,
07:32but Wallace isn't buying it.
07:34If Shauna remembers Harrison helped her that night,
07:36Harrison's toast.
07:38Worse,
07:38Wallace is already side-eyeing the bellboy,
07:40who's acting strangely and clearly weighed down by guilt,
07:44even hallucinating his dead father and the man he killed.
07:47If he cracks under pressure,
07:48not even Dexter can save him.
07:50And just when you thought things couldn't get worse,
07:52Batista is sniffing around,
07:54asking cops in Iron Lake to track Dexter's old truck.
07:57Except Harrison took that truck to NYC,
07:59and now sells it to his buddy Lance,
08:01a hotel valet.
08:02Which means,
08:02when that truck eventually causes problems,
08:04and it will,
08:05Batista's gonna know Dexter's in New York.
08:07And if Batista shows up,
08:09oh,
08:09that's a whole new mess for Dexter and Harrison.
08:12Dexter gets a surprising dinner invitation
08:14from his rideshare driver, Blessing,
08:16and his wife,
08:17Constance.
08:17The conversation takes a wild turn,
08:19when Constance casually brings up Dexter's past life in Miami.
08:23There's no way she can know this,
08:24but she reveals she found his information
08:26on a background screening website,
08:27called Safe Haven Verify.
08:29Dexter,
08:29being Dexter,
08:30immediately pays for the service to find Ronald Schmidt's,
08:33aka Red,
08:34whereabouts.
08:34By the next day,
08:35he's broken into Red's apartment,
08:37and stumbles on something better than just a lead.
08:39The perfect new kill room.
08:41The place has no cameras,
08:42no noisy neighbors,
08:43and thick walls.
08:45It's a delicious,
08:45ironic twist,
08:46that his first kill in New York,
08:48is the very man who owns his new butcher's block.
08:50Dexter sets up a blind date with Ronald Schmidt,
08:53posing as a customer in need of IT help.
08:55He plans to use etorphine vials to immobilize his target,
08:58but gets a little rusty and drops the injection.
09:01Red attacks him with his signature garrote,
09:03but Dexter,
09:04being prepared,
09:05is wearing an aluminum piece under his sweater to protect himself.
09:08He ultimately gets the upper hand and sedates him,
09:10dragging him to his new kill room,
09:12which,
09:12ironically,
09:13is Ronald's own apartment.
09:15In the kill room,
09:16Dexter listens to Red's motive for killing rideshare drivers.
09:19His dad invested everything in a taxi medallion,
09:21then Uber-style drivers came along,
09:23and his father lost everything.
09:25Eventually,
09:25the man drowned himself in the East River,
09:27and Red swore vengeance on every driver he could find.
09:30It's a sad story,
09:31but Dexter's not interested in excuses.
09:33He believes it's all a matter of choice.
09:35He's heard a hundred similar stories,
09:37and he tells Red he's going to kill him.
09:39A frightened Red,
09:40thinking Dexter is Charlie,
09:42spills the beans about an invitation she left with his trophies.
09:45This piques Dexter's curiosity,
09:46so after stabbing him to death,
09:48Dexter finds the letter in Ronald's backpack.
09:50It's a dinner party invitation from Charlie's employer for like-minded serial killers.
09:54But it has a catch.
09:55A thumbprint is required for entry.
09:57Dexter, for the first time in a long time,
09:59meticulously chops up the body and takes it to an old incinerator to burn.
10:03But as the body is burning,
10:04it suddenly hits him.
10:06The thumbprint.
10:06In a panic,
10:07he pulls Ronald's arm from the fire and salvages his thumb,
10:10so he can crash the party.
10:12Detective Wallace is zeroing in on Harrison.
10:14She grills him about Ryan Foster's murder,
10:16since Harrison was the last one to see him alive.
10:19Harrison tries to lie,
10:20saying he went to a bar after helping Ryan with Shauna,
10:22but Wallace isn't buying it.
10:24No cameras caught him leaving the hotel,
10:26and her reconstruction of the crime scene makes it look even worse for him.
10:29Wallace pressures him,
10:30offering a deal if he admits it was an accident,
10:32but Harrison refuses to go down for Ryan.
10:34Eventually, he cracks,
10:36telling her the truth.
10:37He never left the hotel.
10:38He's been secretly living in empty rooms,
10:40because he's homeless.
10:41He has a real alibi this time,
10:43his co-worker,
10:44Elsa Rivera,
10:45who seems to have a crush on him.
10:46He looks after her kid,
10:48and it's clear he has a soft spot for her, too.
10:50The detectives confirm the alibi with Elsa,
10:52but Wallace,
10:53still suspicious,
10:54won't stop her hunt.
10:55The trail on Dexter's old truck finally yields results,
10:58as Batista gets a call that the truck got a speeding ticket in New York.
11:02As soon as he hears this,
11:03he immediately puts in his retirement forms.
11:05It's obvious he's heading to NYC to confront Dexter,
11:08and get closure about the Bay Harbor butcher.
11:10Dexter,
11:11fully prepared with a new thumb skin from Ronald's finger,
11:13is picked up by Charlie,
11:14and arrives at a palatial mansion.
11:16This whole shebang is organized by Leon Prater,
11:19a successful businessman and philanthropist who,
11:21it turns out,
11:22is also a secret serial killer groupie.
11:24Okay, Tyron Lannister,
11:25Prater has a sick collection of artifacts,
11:27not just from the usual suspects like Jeffrey Dahmer,
11:30but also from Dexter's past,
11:31including stuff from the Trinity Killer,
11:33the Ice Truck Killer,
11:34and even the Bay Harbor butcher slides he got from a corrupt FBI agent.
11:38But Prater isn't just a collector of artifacts,
11:40he's a collector of people.
11:41He hosts these gatherings so working serial killers can share their skills,
11:46methods,
11:46and trophies.
11:47This is a chance for Dexter to learn about others.
11:50The lineup is something else.
11:52There's Mia,
11:52or Lady Vengeance,
11:54who hunts male predators,
11:55and pairs it with her taste in fine wine.
11:57Al,
11:58aka Rapunzel,
11:59who takes hair as a trophy.
12:00He's like a totally normal suburban dad with a very abnormal hobby.
12:04Garrett,
12:04the brooding Gemini Killer,
12:06and Lowell,
12:07the tattoo collector,
12:08who kills and skins people with tattoos he likes.
12:10It's a pretty disturbing group,
12:12but Dexter feels like he can be himself,
12:14sort of.
12:15At these gatherings,
12:16one person gives a presentation.
12:18This time,
12:19it's Lowell,
12:19who talks about his next victim,
12:21a grieving young woman who just lost her dog.
12:24As he lays out his plan,
12:25it's obvious that Prater's real thrill is living vicariously through their stories,
12:29like a dark,
12:30gory dinner theater.
12:31Dexter is due to present at the next dinner,
12:33and while he finds it all disturbing,
12:35it's hilarious to see him salivate over the delicious feast laid out,
12:38only to realize he can't eat any of it because he's impersonating a vegan.
12:41The rules of the group are simple.
12:43Do not go after anyone in the group.
12:45Problem is,
12:45Lowell tells Dexter he's moving his kill up to the next day,
12:48which doesn't give Dexter enough time to figure out how to take out these crazies.
12:52Dexter can't just sit idle while Lowell kills someone,
12:55so he reluctantly swings into action,
12:57following Lowell,
12:58then using all the tools Lowell intended for his victim on Lowell himself.
13:01Lowell doesn't beg,
13:03knowing from experience that it doesn't work.
13:05Before Dexter finishes the job,
13:07he reveals his true identity,
13:08because, well,
13:09the dead tell no tales.
13:11Now,
13:11I don't know how Dexter intends to navigate this,
13:14given the last person that broke the rules was killed,
13:16and suspicion is sure to fall on the new guy.
13:19Batista learns from Lance that Harrison sold him Dex's car,
13:22so he visits Harrison at work.
13:24They catch up,
13:24and Batista realizes Harrison thinks Dexter is dead.
13:27He tries to trick him into revealing more about Dexter.
13:30After all,
13:31no risk of jail if the guy's six feet under,
13:33but Harrison won't budge.
13:34Elsa walks in as Harrison storms off,
13:37and spotting Batista's badge,
13:38she assumes it's more harassment over Ryan Foster's murder.
13:41She defends Harrison,
13:42insisting he had nothing to do with it.
13:44This is a crucial moment,
13:45as she inadvertently reveals that there is a murder case,
13:48where the body was chopped into nine pieces.
13:50Batista immediately knows this is the Bay Harbor butcher's signature,
13:53and visits Wallace to share information,
13:55and offer to help.
13:55We don't see that exchange,
13:57but when Batista comes back to Harrison,
13:59it's clear.
14:00He suspects the kid is following in his father's bloody footsteps.
14:03Harrison, already weighed down by guilt,
14:05crumbles further.
14:06His attempt at romance with Elsa failed,
14:08his life is unraveling,
14:09and Batista's words hit harder.
14:11Feeling isolated,
14:12he decides to end his suffering,
14:14and turn himself in.
14:15Just as he approaches the police station,
14:17a hand on his shoulder halts him.
14:19It's Dexter,
14:20finally ready to reveal himself to his son.
14:22After a little argument,
14:25Dexter takes his son back to his pad,
14:27for some father-son damage control.
14:29Dexter explains how he survived being shot,
14:31and that he's been cleared of all charges,
14:33apologizing for the pain he's caused.
14:35He brings up Ryan's murder,
14:36and wants to help,
14:37but when Harrison gives him Ryan's watch,
14:39something that has been haunting him,
14:41Dexter handles it all wrong.
14:42He mentions the release after a kill,
14:44something Harrison absolutely doesn't feel.
14:46Consumed by guilt and seeing Ryan everywhere,
14:49Harrison rips into his dad,
14:50and brings up Batista's visit.
14:51He admits he didn't reveal anything incriminating,
14:54but points out Batista's manipulation,
14:56especially since he never mentioned Dexter was alive.
14:58Dexter struggles to get through to his son,
15:00who eventually walks away.
15:02Unfortunately,
15:03while Harrison was having a guilt crisis earlier,
15:05he had dialed Wallace,
15:06and now she's calling back.
15:08He fumbles some excuse about wanting Shauna's number,
15:10because he's still feeling guilty
15:11for not realizing she was drugged.
15:13The second he says the word guilty,
15:15Wallace locks in.
15:16She reminds him he's still a suspect,
15:17which gives him cold feet.
15:19He bolts out of the station,
15:20and it doesn't look good at all.
15:22Feeling lonely after seeing how loving Blessing's family is,
15:25Dexter decides to call Mia from the killer party.
15:27They go bowling before heading out for dinner and drinks.
15:30Dexter's whole reason for gravitating toward Mia in the first place
15:32was because he thought she lived by a code,
15:35only kill predators.
15:36She even told him a story about how she started killing
15:38to avenge her younger sister,
15:40who was assaulted by her mom's boyfriend.
15:41At first,
15:42Dexter finds it noble,
15:44until Mia reveals that,
15:45though it started with predators.
15:47Now she just kills men,
15:48regardless of whether they're innocent or guilty,
15:50simply because she enjoys it.
15:52Dexter's jaw literally drops,
15:54as he has to pretend everything is Gucci.
15:56To make matters worse,
15:57Mia suggests they team up for their next kill.
16:00And it's happening tonight.
16:01Now, how is Dexter gonna wiggle out of this one?
16:03He doesn't even like Red's sloppy technique,
16:06he doesn't kill innocents,
16:07and he definitely can't add another body to the circle right now.
16:10Subconscious Harry only piles on the stress by reminding him,
16:12I told you so.
16:14He's been against Dexter cozying up to these killers from the jump.
16:17Dexter goes along just to keep up appearances,
16:20but sabotages the attempt with a fake excuse.
16:22But even though he stops this particular kill,
16:24Mia says it's made her murder hungry,
16:26and runs off to do her own thing.
16:28She lures a man back to her apartment,
16:30but Dexter makes an anonymous call to the NYPD to arrest her.
16:33The way he disguised his voice cracked me up.
16:35It actually worked perfectly.
16:37To top it off,
16:38Dexter planted Ryan Foster's watch at her place,
16:40framing Lady Vengeance for Ryan's death.
16:42But both Wallace and Batista are skeptical,
16:44not entirely convinced she's the right culprit.
16:47While Harrison is still adamant about not wanting anything to do with Dexter,
16:50hearing about Lady Vengeance's arrest,
16:52and Dexter's attempt to help moves him.
16:54He shows up to see his dad,
16:55and Dexter now realizes his son is not like him.
16:58He doesn't have a dark passenger.
17:00He apologizes and promises not to groom him anymore.
17:03Harrison,
17:03though still scared Dexter's urges will cost innocent lives like Deb and Rita,
17:07is moved when Dexter says his love for him makes him want to live more than kill.
17:10They finally hold hands.
17:12Ah, even subconscious Harry is proud.
17:15Hopefully Dexter can stick to setting these people up rather than killing them,
17:18but I doubt his dark passenger can let him.
17:20We also get a little more info on Leon Prater as he preps for an interview.
17:24He grew up in a foster home after a drunk driver killed his parents while he was in the back seat,
17:28and the gala he's hosting happens to be on the anniversary of their deaths.
17:31While we don't know exactly where his obsession with serial killers comes from,
17:35it low-key feels like he either wishes a serial killer had done the job,
17:38or he's hiding that he did it himself and is now chasing the high.
17:41We also see that Charlie has a sick mom she lies to,
17:44pretending she's a third-grade teacher just to keep her worry-free.
17:47Then she swings by the prison to check in on Mia.
17:49With Mia locked up,
17:51Prater's only real concern is making sure she doesn't suddenly turn into a liability.
17:54Mia promises to play it cool and not start throwing threats around.
17:58Charlie, in turn,
17:59assures her that Prater's influence will keep her from rotting in a cell too long.
18:02But honestly, with the way these people move,
18:04I can't even tell if Mia's getting bailed out or set up to disappear.
18:09Blessing's mom, Prudence, passes away after a long-term illness,
18:12and Dexter gets invited to the funeral since he's the new tenant.
18:15In a moment of classic social cluelessness,
18:17Dex almost wears Red's signature infrared hoodie,
18:20the one every local knows belongs to the dark passenger serial killer.
18:23Thankfully, Harrison swoops in with a last-minute suit
18:26and saves his dad from looking like he's about to murder the entire congregation.
18:29The funeral itself turns out to be surprisingly helpful
18:32for their strained father-son relationship.
18:35Dex preps Harrison for a total sobfest,
18:37but instead, they walk into a celebration of Prudence's life.
18:40The whole experience lets them connect,
18:42with Dexter even managing to give a heartfelt speech,
18:45complete with some expertly faked tears for good measure.
18:47This event also serves as a wake-up call for Harrison.
18:50After a chat with Blessing's daughter, Joy,
18:52who supports her fiancé's endless failed business ideas,
18:55he realizes he can't be a hotel bellboy forever
18:57and needs to think about his future.
18:58The problem is, college costs money he doesn't have,
19:01and he's not about to ask Dexter for it.
19:03Honestly, though, you'd think Dexter would offer.
19:05Between eight seasons as a blood-spatter analyst
19:07and the cash he's getting from Prater's killer club,
19:10there's no way he's broke.
19:11Detective Wallace isn't buying the story
19:13that Mia suddenly changed her M.O. to dismember Ryan.
19:16It just doesn't fit,
19:18especially after a survivor confirmed Mia said
19:20he would be her first kill in New York.
19:22To make things worse for Dex,
19:23Angel Batista shows up and drops his wild theory.
19:26He thinks Dexter is the real Bay Harbor butcher
19:28and Harrison is his mini-me apprentice who killed Ryan.
19:32Their plan is simple.
19:33Show Mia a photo of Dexter to prove a connection
19:35and explain how he could have planted the watch.
19:38But just as they arrive at the prison,
19:40they find out they're too late.
19:41The other members of the killer's club
19:43got spooked with Mia in jail,
19:44so Charlie paid off a gambling-addicted prison guard
19:47to stage her suicide.
19:48Officially, the case is closed,
19:50but you just know Wallace and Batista
19:51aren't gonna let this go.
19:52They're gonna keep digging off the books,
19:54and we all know how well that ended for dokes.
19:57Speaking of Harrison,
19:58his own dark urges resurface
20:00when he confronts his co-worker's slumlord
20:02about the black mold making her kid sick.
20:04The guy is a total jerk,
20:05and for a terrifying second,
20:07Harrison imagines stabbing him in the eye with a fork.
20:09The key thing, though, is that he doesn't do it.
20:11He later confesses the thought to Dexter,
20:13who explains the crucial difference
20:15between a fleeting, angry impulse,
20:17which Harrison controlled,
20:18and the true, compulsive need to kill that defines him.
20:21Dex assures Harrison he isn't a monster,
20:24further proving that Harrison is just a troubled kid
20:26who feels remorse,
20:27something Dexter never has.
20:28What he really needs is therapy,
20:30but let's be real,
20:31therapy probably isn't in Dexter's vocabulary.
20:34With the police situation handled for now,
20:36Dexter targets his next club member,
20:39Gareth, the Gemini killer.
20:41He tracks him to a bookshop,
20:42but before he can set his trap,
20:44he finds Gareth waiting for him at his apartment.
20:46Thinking fast,
20:47Dexter plays the sycophantic fanboy,
20:49and Gareth's massive ego makes him fall for it completely,
20:52leading him right into a classic,
20:54drugged drink takedown.
20:55He is getting ready for his ritual,
20:57when Blessing suddenly knocks on the door.
20:59In a heart-stoppingly tense scene,
21:01a grieving Blessing pours his heart out.
21:03He confesses that his mom's death is hitting him hard,
21:05because he was a child soldier who did terrible things,
21:08including killing someone,
21:09and she was the one who found him,
21:11brought him to America,
21:12and taught him to be a good person.
21:14While he's having this breakdown,
21:15he gets a headache,
21:16and goes into the bathroom for meds,
21:18messing with the shower curtain
21:19just inches from where Gareth's body is hidden.
21:22Miraculously, he leaves without seeing a thing.
21:24Dexter barely has time to breathe
21:26and dispose of the body before he gets a call.
21:28Prater is taking the whole club on a surprise trip,
21:30and expects everyone,
21:31including Gareth,
21:32to be on the flight.
21:33Dexter is officially screwed,
21:35or so we think.
21:36Just as the flight is about to leave,
21:38a man who looks exactly like Gareth walks in.
21:40In a jaw-dropping twist,
21:42it turns out the Gemini killer name
21:43wasn't just for show.
21:45Gareth is an identical twin.
21:47Dexter only killed one of them.
21:49Dex's face reminds me of you,
21:50season 5,
21:51when Joe realized he caged the wrong twin.
21:55Dexter and the killer crew pull up to Prater's mansion,
21:57and Charlie thinks it's a terrible idea,
21:59but Prater just shrugs her off.
22:00They all find out Mia committed suicide,
22:03and toast to her memory.
22:04Dexter's got his doubts,
22:06but hey, the job's done,
22:07and he didn't have to get his hands dirty,
22:08so he's fine with it.
22:10Harrison is feeling good after his chat with Dexter,
22:12and tells Elsa he wants to get into criminal justice,
22:14like the Morgan family.
22:16He even invites Dexter on a college tour.
22:18Dexter is all for it,
22:19but first,
22:20he has to sit through Al's show-and-tell,
22:22which is literally just Al murdering a defenseless woman on video.
22:25Dexter is disgusted,
22:26and immediately marks Al as a priority kill.
22:29Now it's Dexter's turn.
22:30Since his code and M.O. are so different from the person he's impersonating,
22:33he decides to talk about his feelings instead,
22:36talking about having to wear a mask for everyone,
22:37and how his thing is the only time he feels like himself.
22:40He even admits he's not sure if he or his dark passenger is in control.
22:44Gareth immediately picks up on Dexter not sharing any details about his kills,
22:47but Praetor is super impressed by Dexter's vulnerability.
22:50It makes him comfortable enough to share his own story.
22:53And yeah, I got it all wrong.
22:55He reveals the hit-and-run that killed his parents was just the beginning.
22:58The man who did it,
22:59Cooper Morris,
23:00wrote back to a letter Praetor sent,
23:02admitting he killed them on purpose after a fight with his girlfriend,
23:04with no remorse.
23:06After multiple letters,
23:07and Praetor being alone,
23:09and bouncing from foster home to foster home,
23:11he befriended the guy.
23:12They remained friends until Cooper died.
23:14Then Praetor moved on to other people in prison,
23:16and from there,
23:17his obsession with collecting serial killers started.
23:20What kind of trauma is this?
23:22With the partial truth seemingly working for him so far,
23:25Dexter decides to use the same honesty tactic on Gareth.
23:28He pretends to fangirl over his brotherly bond,
23:30and how the Gemini killer kills in pairs.
23:32Then he pivots,
23:33questioning how Gareth does it,
23:35given he's not really built to kill two people at the same time,
23:38and still stage their murders in his signature way.
23:40He points out that he already killed Gareth's twin,
23:42which leads to a big fight.
23:44Dexter kills the other Gareth with a wine glass,
23:46then spins a story for Praetor about self-defense,
23:49claiming the Gemini killer was going to go after them all.
23:51He even fakes an injury to prove it.
23:54This whole situation feels out of character for Dexter.
23:56He's usually so meticulous and careful,
23:59but this is just a mess.
24:00It's a huge shift from his normal M.O.,
24:02and you have to wonder what the writer was thinking.
24:05Charlie isn't buying it, though.
24:07They've lost too many people since Dexter showed up,
24:09but Praetor is blind to it,
24:10telling her to just do her job and keep him safe.
24:13Obviously, Angel doesn't believe Mia killed herself,
24:15and Wallace has her doubts, too,
24:17especially since Mia's fingerprint is missing from Ryan's watch.
24:20Still, there's not much to go on,
24:21but Angel takes it to the street and finds Dexter's house.
24:24He finds Blessing at home,
24:26and, after introducing himself as Dexter's old friend from Miami,
24:29Blessing begins revealing information nobody asked him.
24:32He reveals Harrison is going through a tough time,
24:34and that Dexter is trying to be there for him,
24:36which immediately sets off Angel's alarm bells.
24:39The whole Gareth mess makes Dexter late for his college tour with Harrison,
24:42but no worries, Harrison is having fun with his tour guide Gigi.
24:45Things get awkward when they go into a lecture hall
24:47and find Wallace there giving a talk.
24:49As she introduces the case,
24:51she locks eyes with Harrison,
24:52and I thought for sure she was going to say Ryan's murder,
24:54but nope, it's the New York Ripper,
24:56a sick serial killer who has haunted her career.
24:59The guide disappeared for a while,
25:00but still torments families of his victims with phone calls.
25:03Dexter arrives just in time to hear her talk
25:05about how serial killers don't feel love or empathy.
25:07He immediately pulls Harrison aside to set the record straight,
25:10which seems to put Harrison at ease.
25:12Their bonding is cut short when Wallace calls them Mr. Morgan,
25:15revealing she met Batista.
25:17Dexter is totally rattled,
25:18claiming Batista is cuckoo.
25:20Before he leaves,
25:22Dexter subtly helps Wallace with her Ripper investigation,
25:24nudging her toward the right murder weapon
25:26since he saw the real one at Praetor's.
25:28It's nice to see Dexter in proud dad mode,
25:31supporting Harrison's dream
25:32and getting a proud dad hat to prove it.
25:34Harrison even gets the tour guide's number.
25:37Life is good for them.
25:38Dexter gets home on a high
25:39until he hears Cuban music from Blessing's apartment.
25:42He knows it's Angel
25:43and rushes up to get him out of there.
25:45During the car ride,
25:46Dexter tells him to stay away,
25:47but Angel says he can't let him get away with his kills.
25:50Dexter ends it with a classic line,
25:52if I'm a killer like you say,
25:53isn't this a dumb thing to do?
25:55Before kicking Angel out of the car.
25:56But Angel, with his coconut head,
25:58slips an airpod in the car to track him.
26:00Angel is actively looking for anomalies in Dexter's routine,
26:03and he actually stumbles on one
26:04when Dexter's tracker shows his car stopped
26:06somewhere way off his usual path.
26:08Of course, that spot is the perfect kill room for Al,
26:11but because this is a TV show,
26:13Angel completely misses it,
26:14even though it's right behind him.
26:15While Charlie still feels Dexter is super sus,
26:18after that whole bonding session with him,
26:20Prater just can't see it.
26:21He tells Charlie to dig if it'll calm her nerves,
26:24but his own heart isn't in it.
26:26Dexter faces a new kind of problem.
26:28When Harrison vents to him about his co-worker Elsa's landlord,
26:31Vinny,
26:31who refuses to fix the mold in her apartment,
26:33even after she just renewed her lease.
26:35She's been crashing with her son in spare rooms at the hotel,
26:38but with Prater's police gala filling every hotel in town,
26:41Elsa and her son,
26:42whose asthma is acting up,
26:44have no choice but to return to the mold-infested place.
26:47Dexter is immediately intrigued.
26:48He tries to see if Vinny fits his code,
26:50but since the landlord doesn't quite qualify,
26:52Dexter offers to just talk to the guy.
26:54Harrison,
26:55knowing his dad's twisted sense of justice,
26:57makes sure to clarify that it's just talk,
26:59and not, you know,
26:59killing the guy.
27:01A quick chat with Prudence, however,
27:02changes everything.
27:04She hands Dexter a landlord handbook,
27:06revealing that mold negligence is a serious crime.
27:09This new information sends Dexter to Vinny's office,
27:11but after waiting two hours,
27:13he's brushed off by the receptionist,
27:14while Vinny is literally in the room.
27:16When Dexter finally storms in,
27:18Vinny insults him to his face.
27:20Given his history of neglecting his properties,
27:22and a seeming disregard for human life,
27:24Vinny's fate is sealed.
27:25He's officially the next victim.
27:27To Dexter's frustration,
27:28his original target for the night, Al,
27:30skips town early.
27:31The man basically dodged a bullet without even knowing it,
27:34leaving early because he didn't like the show he booked.
27:37With his dark passenger screaming for a fix,
27:39Vinny becomes the perfect substitute.
27:41The only problem is Dexter's gunshot wound.
27:44He's in no shape to take on Vinny,
27:46with the pain in his shoulder.
27:47Joy has been helping him with acupuncture,
27:49so he calls her over for a session.
27:51But Joy is really off her game today.
27:53Her dad has been in a mood since his mom died,
27:55and Joy's upcoming move with her fiancé for business school
27:57has only made him angrier.
27:59In an awkward attempt to be human,
28:01Dexter mentions that Blessing was a child soldier,
28:03and that his mom had saved him,
28:04a detailed Blessing had shared in confidence.
28:06It completely backfires.
28:08Blessing's family had no idea,
28:10and he is devastated.
28:12He confronts Dexter,
28:13feeling totally betrayed.
28:14This really gets to Dexter,
28:16making him even more frustrated and angry than he already was.
28:19The scene is supposed to be serious,
28:21but seeing Blessing crash out in lowercase
28:23just cracked me up.
28:25With everything going wrong,
28:26all Dexter needs is his ritualistic kill.
28:29He ambushes Vinny,
28:30and takes him to the kill room he had originally set up for Al.
28:33He doesn't seem to want to kill Vinny, though,
28:35as he has on this extended version of a wig cap
28:37that kind of masks his face.
28:38He scares some sense into the guy,
28:40telling him that if he doesn't fix his houses,
28:42he'll be back.
28:43Was he actually going to kill him?
28:44Hard to say,
28:45because Angel crashes the party.
28:47Dexter narrowly escapes,
28:49and Angel in the frenzy doesn't even get any of Vinny's info.
28:52With the kill room still intact,
28:53Angel immediately calls Wallace,
28:55convinced this is a breakthrough.
28:57But to Wallace and Melvin,
28:58it's just a conspiracy theory.
29:00Angel didn't see Dexter,
29:01and he didn't get the victim's info.
29:03He has nothing.
29:04When he tries to show them the AirPod tracker,
29:07which Dexter has destroyed,
29:08Wallace and Melvin are looking at him like,
29:10well, maybe Dexter was right,
29:12and this man is really losing it.
29:14Angel's erratic behavior prompts Wallace
29:16to call Miami PD for clarity.
29:18Joey Quinn answers and reveals that Angel has been retired
29:21and is not pursuing any investigation for Miami PD,
29:24as Angel had claimed.
29:25This leaves Wallace wondering if Angel himself
29:27is the Bay Harbor butcher.
29:28Seriously, if they make Wallace dumb enough
29:31to fall for that nonsense,
29:32it will be infuriating.
29:34You can't set her up as a high IQ woman
29:36only to make her gullible now.
29:38While all this is happening,
29:39Gigi and Harrison are hanging out.
29:41Gigi is crushed to find out her dream
29:43of becoming a detective is over
29:44due to a nerve injury in her arm.
29:46Harrison lifts her spirits by pointing out
29:48that not all law enforcement is on the front lines.
29:51He uses his dad as an example
29:52of how you can put away bad guys in other ways.
29:55This sweet moment leads to them hooking up
29:57for the first time in one of the Empire's hotel rooms.
29:59Aw.
30:00Harrison is totally blushing
30:01when he tells his dad about it later.
30:03He also shares the good news
30:04that Vinny is actually sorting out Elsa's apartment.
30:07Harrison, knowing his dad's a little twisted,
30:09makes a joke about how he didn't just talk to the guy,
30:11and they both have a laugh.
30:12But the moment is short-lived
30:14when Leon Prater shows up and exclaims
30:15that he had no idea.
30:17Red had a son.
30:18Looks like Charlie finally did her job.
30:21Dexter is about to burst out of anger,
30:22but he manages to cook up a lie
30:24to get Prater out of the restaurant,
30:25but not before Harrison blurts out
30:27that he works as a bellboy at the Empire Hotel.
30:29As soon as they're outside,
30:31an unknown figure snaps their picture.
30:33Dexter warns Prater to back off,
30:34but the man just shifts the blame onto Charlie.
30:37Instead of retreating,
30:38he leans in, fascinated,
30:40calling Dexter part of his world
30:42and setting up a private meet
30:43to get to the bottom of things.
30:45As expected, once Prater leaves,
30:47Harrison bombards his dad with questions,
30:49and with that promise of no more secrets between them,
30:51Dexter finally confesses everything,
30:54including the fact that he took out the Gemini Killer.
30:56Harrison is low-key impressed,
30:58because apparently that guy was a big deal.
31:00What Dexter doesn't realize, though,
31:01is that the mystery photographer tailing them is Angel.
31:04Dexter luckily manages to slip away from him.
31:07Harrison's told to go about life as normal
31:09while Dex fixes everything,
31:11except nothing is normal.
31:12When Harrison shows up for his shift at the hotel,
31:14the room request waiting for him is from Charlie.
31:16She wastes no time grilling him about Dexter.
31:19Harrison tries to spin a half-truth,
31:21Dad abandoned him.
31:22Painful, but useful.
31:24Except he slips up,
31:25lets it slide that Dexter's a rideshare driver.
31:27And to make it worse,
31:28he leaves behind plates and cups
31:30with his fingerprints all over them.
31:32Rookie mistake.
31:33The second Dexter hears about this,
31:35he snaps into predator mode.
31:37Nobody messes with his son.
31:38He breaks into Charlie's place,
31:40finds the lifted prince,
31:41and even stumbles onto Charlie's sick mother upstairs,
31:44which explains a lot.
31:45Turns out Charlie isn't just muscle.
31:47She's ex-military,
31:48decorated,
31:49and juggling a sick parent
31:50who Praetor's been keeping alive with expensive doctors.
31:53So when Dexter ambushes her outside the florist,
31:55the whole truth spills.
31:57Praetor owns people by exploiting their weaknesses.
31:59Her mother is hers,
32:00and now Praetor knows Harrison is Dexter's.
32:03While I thought Praetor actually did not care about digging into Dex,
32:06well, it turns out everything Charlie does is on Praetor's orders,
32:09down to the smallest detail.
32:11He's pulling all the strings.
32:12Dexter, furious,
32:14has no choice but to let her go
32:15and focus his rage on the man at the top.
32:18When Charlie tells Praetor what happened,
32:20he's fascinated.
32:21He even asks her to show him the mark Dexter left on her neck.
32:25After this,
32:25Dexter calls Blessing to have Harrison picked up at work
32:28and brought to his house.
32:29He then calls Praetor to move their meeting to his mansion,
32:31hoping to put an end to the man once and for all.
32:34But while Dexter is plotting,
32:36Angel is getting dragged.
32:37Wallace chews him out for playing cop in New York,
32:40despite being retired.
32:41She even yanks his badge,
32:43but at least she doesn't think he's the Bay Harbor Butcher.
32:45On his way out, though,
32:46Angel spots a poster for a police gala that Praetor is hosting.
32:50Thinking the man is in danger after seeing him with Dexter,
32:52Angel pays him a visit and spills everything,
32:55how Dexter is impersonating Red
32:57and how he is the Bay Harbor Butcher.
32:59And what does Angel get for being a snitch?
33:01Oh, just wait.
33:02Dexter arrives at Praetor's mansion feeling confident,
33:05having only brought a pocket knife for what he thinks is a one-on-one.
33:08But Charlie ambushes him, revealing they know he isn't Red.
33:12He's Dexter Morgan.
33:13Now here's the twist.
33:14Praetor doesn't want revenge.
33:16He wants partnership.
33:17He's giddy that Dex is a real-deal serial slayer.
33:20He offers Dexter a deal.
33:22He'll host parties.
33:23And when they're over,
33:24Dexter can kill the serial killers,
33:26keeping his dark passenger fed to the brim.
33:28But first,
33:29Dexter has to prove his loyalty by killing the man tied up in front of him,
33:32Angel.
33:33Angel is a pain, sure,
33:35but they have so much history,
33:36and he doesn't even fit Dexter's code.
33:38So Dexter cuts him loose.
33:40But instead of working together to escape,
33:42Angel attacks Dexter.
33:43In the chaos,
33:44Praetor is forced to kill Angel himself,
33:46before slipping away with Charlie and locking Dexter in the vault.
33:49Angel dies right there,
33:51and Dexter, left trapped and enraged,
33:53realizes he's lost another person because of his actions.
33:56With Dexter locked inside Praetor's vault alongside Batista's corpse,
33:59Charlie isn't exactly thrilled
34:01that her boss just killed a cop upstairs
34:03while half of New York's finest sip champagne at the gala below.
34:06But Praetor?
34:07He's buzzing off the high of his first kill and barely notices.
34:10His genius plan is to leave Dexter to rot for three days,
34:13with Charlie standing guard.
34:15Not exactly airtight,
34:16but when you're that rich,
34:17people tend to nod along no matter how dumb your ideas are.
34:20While Praetor schmoozes downstairs,
34:22Dexter, after a few failed escape attempts,
34:25hears Batista's phone ring.
34:26He uses it to call Harrison,
34:28who's otherwise occupied with Gigi.
34:29Whatever happened to Elsa, by the way?
34:32Eventually, Harrison picks up.
34:33Dad needs help,
34:34and conveniently,
34:35he's the only one who can provide it.
34:37So he calls Lance to ask if that job catering the gala,
34:40which he initially refused,
34:41is still available.
34:42Of course it is.
34:44Despite being tasked with serving the most powerful people in the state,
34:47the catering company doesn't seem to notice Harrison waltzing around
34:50with his phone peeking out of his pocket
34:51and an AirPod in one ear,
34:53live-streaming the mission to Dexter.
34:55He needs to get to the penthouse while avoiding the cops.
34:57Wallace is there, looking great,
34:59and Praetor himself.
35:00No pressure.
35:02Dexter's master plan for guiding Harrison to the penthouse
35:04didn't account for Charlie still being in there when he arrived.
35:08She interrupts Harrison as he noisily tries to pick the lock
35:10and holds him at gunpoint,
35:12assuming she has acquired some necessary leverage.
35:14But Dexter has some of his own.
35:16While snooping around Praetor's vault,
35:18in between arguing with a vision of his long-dead brother,
35:20he discovered a bunch of compromising information that proves,
35:23among other things,
35:24that Charlie was responsible for staging Mia's suicide.
35:27Praetor's been keeping blackmail files on all her dirty work for years.
35:30This news rattles Charlie,
35:32whose real name, by the way,
35:33is Charlotte Brown,
35:34a.k.a. Charlie Brown,
35:35especially when Dexter threatens to airdrop photos of the evidence to the cops downstairs.
35:40But she doesn't go for Dexter's proposed idea of letting Harrison and himself go free.
35:44Instead, she offers to let Harrison go,
35:47mostly as a thank you to Dexter for not killing her mother,
35:49but insists on leaving Dexter in the vault to die.
35:51If he escapes, she promises to track Harrison down,
35:55torture him, and kill him.
35:57After Charlie leaves,
35:58both Dexter and Harrison completely ignore this threat,
36:01and get to work on breaking open the vault.
36:02The show milks this sequence beautifully.
36:05Batista's phone is dying,
36:06and they only get one shot at the code.
36:08Dexter thinks he has it nailed down as the day Praetor's parents died,
36:12but then changes his mind at the last minute.
36:14It's unnecessarily great stuff.
36:16The code turns out to be the prisoner number of the man who killed Praetor's parents,
36:19and just like that, father and son are reunited.
36:22Only for Dexter to realize Red Schmidt's thumbprint is missing,
36:25which is the only way he can leave Praetor's house without going through the crowd downstairs.
36:29So he sends Harrison out the way he came, while he works on finding it.
36:33You'd think it wouldn't be that hard for Harrison to walk through the crowd and just exit the whole place,
36:36but after accidentally hitting a server, which almost brings all attention on him,
36:40he gets spotted by Praetor, who corners him with a gun.
36:43Just as Dexter is leaving the building,
36:45Having found the thumbprint on Batista's corpse,
36:48Praetor calls him to return to the penthouse and face the music.
36:51High off Batista's murder, Praetor thinks he has found his purpose,
36:54and now wants Harrison to be his first official kill.
36:57Dexter offers himself instead, but Praetor won't budge.
37:00Luckily, Harrison is still carrying the little protection Dexter gave him earlier,
37:04a needle full of knockout juice.
37:06Good thing he somehow kept it through multiple outfit changes.
37:08Together, they take Praetor down before he blows Harrison's brains out.
37:12Then Dexter stays behind to give Praetor the full Bay Harbor butcher treatment.
37:16Praetor's not so tough anymore as he begs for his life,
37:19promising Dexter generational wealth and more.
37:22Bro, shut it!
37:23Praetor doesn't even get the privilege of a bloodslide.
37:26Dexter doesn't care to remember him at all.
37:28After dismembering Praetor and cleaning up any evidence that he was there,
37:31Dexter deliberately inputs the wrong vault code to trigger the alarm and summon the cops,
37:35while using Praetor's severed thumb to slip away.
37:37Wallace, whose impromptu rendition of the Staying Alive dance is one of those totally
37:41unnecessary inclusions that I'm so glad was there,
37:44finds a treasure trove of incriminating evidence against Praetor,
37:47Batista's body, and finally learns the identity of the New York Ripper.
37:51And yeah, it's not her partner like some people speculated.
37:54In the end, Charlie, having broken her employment with Praetor,
37:57runs off with her mom, and Dexter slips away on Praetor's luxury yacht,
38:00a few sacks of body parts and folders of future targets in tow.
38:03He has Harrison, Blessing, his family, and most importantly, his urges.
38:08He's not looking to change anymore.
38:10He's happy being Dexter Morgan.
38:12And honestly, why not?
38:14That's it on Dexter Resurrection Season 1.
