00:14SIGLA
00:16Hello and welcome to our first proper look at the Wood Elves in Battle.
00:19Today we have an Empire army led by Volkmar the Grim attempting to invade the sacred woodlands
00:25of Athel Loren with the forest defenders of the Wood Elves and their tree spirit allies
00:29standing in defence of the Oak of Ages.
00:34The Oak is the beating heart of Athel Loren and it's surrounded by lush and verdant forests
00:38with elven waystones creating a nice little avenue up to the oak itself as it towers over
00:43the battlefield.
00:46While not every unit in the Wood Elves roster is on show here today this is a sort of fairly
00:51representative mix of a mid to high tier army.
00:55Leading our army is an Elven Glade Lord riding a great eagle making him both highly mobile
00:59and very capable in melee though he's also a powerful archer in his own right.
01:04Great Eagles can also be recruited to fight solo and they're useful as fast punchy positional
01:09support right across the battlefield.
01:11Hawk riders are essentially flying skirmish cavalry and of course the noble forest dragon.
01:16Like other forest spirit units he has a 20% bonus to his physical resistance and he deals
01:22both magical and poison attacks.
01:25Perched on this handy cliff edge we have five units of Elven Waywatchers, the top tier of
01:29Wood Elf archers.
01:31Firing en masse their long range armour piercing fire can be as devastating as any artillery.
01:36They're also accompanied by a Waystalker hero character.
01:39His hawkish precision ability augments nearby friendly archers with a further 25% armour piercing
01:45buff and he can fire the arrow of Kurnas.
01:48On the melee front we have some war dancers with Azrai Spears, highly skilled melee specialists
01:53with an additional defensive stance ability.
01:56Next in line are the Wildwood Rangers.
01:58They deal armour piercing anti-large damage just like war dancers but they have better armour
02:02and get a bonus charge defence in forests.
02:06Onto the forest spirits and their monstrous infantry come in the form of tree kin.
02:10For comparison purposes these gnarled fellows can trade blows with chaos spawn but they also
02:14have the siege attacker trait and enjoy the bonus physical resistance and magical attacks
02:18of all woodland spirits.
02:20They do have quite a weakness to fire however as do their bigger brothers the tree men.
02:29Out wide on the flank with vanguard deploy two units of wild riders.
02:33Forest stalking frenzied damage dealers the stag mounted cavalry also cause fear.
02:37They can hide in woods too making them perfect for deep field artillery ambushes midway through
02:42a battle.
02:44Right let's get cracking then.
02:46As our flyers move off to the left flank in an attempt to force the enemy to spread
02:49his forces out our wild riders up on the right are thundering up the flank in an effort to
02:54get into a position that plays to their strengths.
02:56All armies demand at least some level of micro management as you know but it's especially
03:00true of the wood elves who are very much glass cannon in their army style.
03:05So the waywatchers and the waystalker are already using their excellent range to start
03:09peppering away at incoming units.
03:11They've already pretty much wiped out a melee cav unit and they're opening up on some
03:15flagellants in earnest and just look at that health bar drop.
03:24There's lots of hellstorm, rocket, battery, fire hitting our melee block here and it looks
03:29like the wildwood rangers are getting hit the hardest.
03:38There's also a unit of demigriffs ranging round looking for an entry point here so let's
03:42shift the line across a bit.
03:46Back to the wild riders now and they've taken a stealthy breather in the woods here which
03:50has given the enemy army time to advance away from its rocket batteries and the moment has
03:54come to let them fly.
03:56Small units like this are no match for their swift fear inspiring punch but it looks like
04:00Volkmar's hanging back to bolster their defences and in they go disrupting, damaging and scaring
04:05the battery crews while inhibiting them from firing of course as well.
04:09It shouldn't take long to chew through all this lot so long as Volkmar doesn't pray
04:12them to pieces in the meantime with some Sigmarite nonsense.
04:17Hit and run is the name of the game with the wild riders.
04:20Once their jobs done you've got to get them out of the tar pit and barrelling into something
04:23new as quick as you like.
04:28Back to our melee block now and you can see just how much damage a few rocket volleys
04:32has done to the rangers.
04:33Now the demis have chosen the right target and that's gonna hurt.
04:43So our weakened rangers have been routed in short order and given the mass of living wood
04:49nearby the demigriffs have quite rightly gone off to hunt for other targets of opportunity.
04:54And straight towards our war dancers as it turns out which may not be such a wise move.
05:01While very lightly armoured war dancers are immune to psychology and armed with azure spears,
05:06they have the anti-large trait and bonus charge defence versus large.
05:12This puts them in a prime position to both take a charge from shot cavalry like this and
05:16pay out enough damage to send them packing.
05:22A piecemeal follow up by a unit of halberdeers isn't going to cause our remaining rangers
05:26too much trouble.
05:31And in go the tree kin and the tree man.
05:34Fear, massive weapon damage, magical attacks.
05:36Let us bid these sons of Sigmar good luck and good night.
05:53Back over to Eagle Wing on the left flank who have been waiting for the Waywatchers to
05:57soften everyone up and in goes the Glade Lord against some riflemen.
06:01Now you'll see some spectacular arcing attacks from the Eagle here, it really is the most
06:05amazing mount.
06:06Artfully killing single units and disrupting multiple others with the same attacks.
06:13Combine that nimble punch with some melee specialisation in your Glade Lord's personal
06:17combat tree and you've got a swift and deadly duo who can relocate and choose their targets
06:22at will.
06:35Now Vogmar's clearly realised it's all falling apart now and this looks like just the kind
06:39of opportunity we've been saving our dragon and our eagle for.
06:42and in goes the Glade Lord for good measure as well.
06:47And it looks like the Ruckus has moved into range of the Waywatchers as well so they're
06:50adding a dollop of AP damage to the mix.
06:54This is kind of a perfect storm.
06:55Three monstrous units all with magical attacks and high weapon strength all ranged against
07:00Volkmar on his war altar.
07:04The tree man and co have waded into the fray now as well chasing usefully if rather hopelessly
07:08against the remainder of the Imperial handgunners which will stop them firing at least but now
07:12it really is just a case of running down the stragglers and mopping up.
07:25And we'll leave the final killing blows to our forest dragon and our great eagle.
07:32So fast, mobile, brittle yet hard hitting and with some fearsome archery skills the wood elves
07:36can be a truly formidable force in the field.
07:39but this is a problem.
07:41That's right.
07:42That's right.
07:43That's right.
07:44That's what we call him.
07:45Ruuugh!
