In questo nuovo trailer di Sea of Thieves il level art lead Darren Nourish e l'environment artist Joachim Coppens parlano della creazione delle isole presenti nel gioco.

00:08come high we want it to be the overall shape and idea about the silence will be
00:13like oh there will be a large ridge here or there will be a large cavern you go into or

00:19that's it we get the terrain and then the major height changes pretty much how we want it to
00:24start with and then that gets play tested a little bit but not a massive amount at that stage yeah
00:29you want to play test it for the amount of time it takes to walk from from one place to
00:33another
00:33place or what views you can get from certain yeah certain angles thieves haven is a good example of
00:40how that initial play testing can kind of prove that an island can be way too big and so we
00:46actually
00:47just chopped it in half but obviously once we've got the size roughly how we want it yeah we can
00:53then start laying on the landscape and the terrain yeah and start blocking out the rock forms which is
00:59really important at that stage as well because although we have to think about the top down
01:03silhouette for the map we also have to think about the silhouette from distance you wanted to look
01:07cool near a sunset yeah yeah that's the moment you're looking for and then and it's recognizable
01:15on the map and recognizable when they're sailing around on the boat and then once we're happy with
01:19that phase that's when we start layering on say the foliage yeah and all the i'd say mid-level detail
01:27so the trees and the bushes and and things like that the smaller rocks and then once we're happy with
01:32that we'll start laying on some of the the smaller detail like like the pebbles and the ground cover
01:39paint and yeah then we'll add another layer of art on top of that which is the areas of interest
01:45which
01:45is these little stories that would that make the world feel a bit more believable and feel a bit more
01:50lived in for instance on thieves haven there's been a rock slide so you see all these rocks in the
01:55sea
01:55below and then obviously sometime after the rock slide someone put a wooden walkway on top
02:00yeah so it makes it feel like things have a history behind them i think that's a good thing with
02:06the
02:06the law stuff and the islands it's like some are more remote and you know nobody's probably set foot
02:11on them before yeah and then others feel a little bit more as though pirates have been there before
02:16they've inhabited it they've created these walkways and these things have been built and rebuilt yeah
02:21destroyed yeah yeah it's just adding that little bit more finesse to those areas really in everything we do
02:27we try to create a fun experience for the player and try to immerse them completely into the world of
02:32sea of thieves yeah just like the ship battling and the other fun stuff we can do in sea of
02:37thieves we
02:37want to make the islands as memorable exactly
