00:0019-year-old Kaya and Karin are reporting for their first day of duty.
00:04Having just finished school, they will spend the next 12 months serving in the Norwegian Armed Forces.
00:09Now it's a bit cool to see the uniform and so on, so now I'm glad I'm a bit.
00:13You've just got to think about it, so it's really hard when it's true that we're here.
00:19The Norwegian government wants to attract more young women to the military.
00:23Since Universal Conscription was introduced in 2015, their numbers have been steadily increasing.
00:28For the most people who don't choose, I feel that it's because they have other things they'd rather prioritize time
00:34to, such studies or travel.
00:36Norway is often seen as a leader in gender equality, yet a 2025 investigative report found that nearly half of
00:43all female conscripts reported being sexually harassed.
00:46So the process starts with the fact that you have implemented for all of them, and the bit there, so
00:53you can see the good development on it.
00:58But the way is still there.
01:01Norway is relying more than ever on women for defense.
01:04Soon Kaya and Karin could be patrolling the 200 kilometer long northern border with Russia.
01:09For now, the first week in the barracks went smoothly, even in mixed dorms.
01:13All are very pleasant and respectful, and we learn a lot about the limits, so if one says it's not
01:19good, you don't do that.
01:20If they're in the barracks, they're in and dusch, then the door is locked up here.
01:25And there's no one who goes in before the person comes out of the barracks and gets laid out.
01:29You
