Ipoh Barat Member of Parliament M. Kulasegaran has denied being present in court when activist Arun Dorasamy was charged at the Jawi Magistrate’s Court in Nibong Tebal, Penang, on Tuesday (March 17).

Kulasegaran, who is also the Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reforms), said he had only briefly met the activist outside the court complex to advise him to place his trust in the legal process.

00:34Kulasegaran added that he has known Arun since representing Indira Gandhi in her legal challenge
00:40concerning her children.
00:42The statement comes after questions from the opposition about whether it was appropriate
00:47for a cabinet member to attend court proceedings with a person about to be charged.
00:52Bersatu Vice President Datuk Dr Mohamad Radzi Monjideen said the government should clarify
00:58the matter immediately.
01:00Arun was charged under Section 505B of the Penal Code and pleaded not guilty.
01:06He is accused of making statements allegedly intended to cause public alarm at a shopping
01:12centre in Batu Kawan, South Serbarong Parai on March 12th at 3.45pm.
